Re: Hardware Review (In Progress): Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch

YessMasster

I think switch 2 feels amazing and I'm really glad I got one.
^ The bigger size really works
^ The vent smell
^ Can play all i need to catch up from NS1
^ UI feels way better. You can't exactly put a finger on it, but there are dozens of tiny improvements here and there

  • I don't see myself using mouse feature alot, but then again I usually go handheld anyways.
v No OLED That one is a bummer. I was hoping for better contrasts and colors, alas, I'll probably get used to it. Still, i'll upgrade to OLED version when it comes. I'll likely wait for some neat themed variant though.

Re: 'Mario Red Edition' Switch OLED Launch Doubles System Sales In Japan

@Exerion76 If people consider something worth it, they buy it. Where's the problem exactly? Some people want their consoles to look cool and they have means to get what they want, so they go for it. Nothing gullible or stupid about it.

That being said I don't see that much appeal with Mario, it looks very plain imho, then again, sales numbers clearly show that there are many people that like it, and that's all cool with me. I used to have Splatoon switch (which sadly broke down) and now I've Pokemon oled switch and both look rad to me

Re: Video: Switch Online Could Learn A Lot From Xbox Game Pass

YessMasster

@a1904 That's simply not true. If you skip money on publishers, and Microsoft is doing just that by buying out studios, the costs go lower. There's also a fact that there are constant costs and costs that depend on number of subscribers. So the more users GP has, the cheaper per person it gets to provide the service. It certainly is sustainable. Moreso, since MS did actually decide to abandon the idea of platforms. It's getting easier and easier to play GP on phone, PC or whatever platform you want. GP is actually a great move from the point of view of the company future proofing. IMHO Sony already lost that race, they did it long ago actually by not supporting their own products - handheld market was given away to Nintendo, smartphones to samsung and apple, heck, even PS now never even tried coming to my country (in the middle of europe).

Nintendo, imho, is not going to outright lose to Microsoft, Nintendo is kinda playing a different game them MS/Sony, but whether we want it or not, the physical releases are going to go away sooner or later. mayube not completely, but to a great degree, much like music and movies have went away from physical media

Re: The Video Game Industry Pledges Its Support For The Beleaguered People Of Ukraine

@Paraka That's true that this response is greater than ever before, including previous Crimea incident. Europe, and its leaders were always pushing for diplomatic response, which was simply not enough and now we see the effects of it. I deeply believe, however, that now we are past the turning point. EU has seen that just voicing outrage is not enough, that not standing up to aggression leads to escalation, even if not right away, then in few years time. It's seen exactly because russia has proved that these voices mean nothing to oppressors. It's because of this we are now facing a thread of 3rd world war, which is very likely to happen if any of NATO countries get involved, or China. On top of it all, we are all shown what a true leader is, and I mean the President of Ukraine Zelenskyy - the guy who is not afraid to stand up for his people, even when greatly outnumbered. Who did not abandon his people, even knowing its a huge risk for his own life. The world is changing

Re: The Video Game Industry Pledges Its Support For The Beleaguered People Of Ukraine

YessMasster

I live in Poland (we share a border with Ukraine) and work as a game developer and I can tell you that the situation here is very stressful (obviously, nothing compared to Ukraine itself). These people need our help. Many people of my country are using their own resources to help, we buy food, supplies, many people use their own cars to get Ukrainians to safety. Many companies are donating to humanitarian aid as well. It is a time of great trial to whole Europe and, quite likely, the world itself.

Re: Atelier Sophie 2 Gets A Fancy New Trailer And Battle Details

As with each game in the series - I cant wait

@shinynewbicycles - hmm, i've played Lulua which was 4th game in the Arlandseries, and enjoyed it enough to try the rest of the Arland atelier's. Now, Sophie 2 is chronologically 2nd game in Mysterious series. So my best judgement is that you can jump into it and are likely to enjoy it. You'll get much more references if you try Sophie, though, but Firis and Lydie&Suelle (sequels) are not necessary at all

Re: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana

@Bass_X0 I gave it another shot few months after it and played till the end. It was an okay game albeit not much more than that. Just my personal opinion though

Re: Talking Point: Great Game, Poor Performance - When Does A Bad Frame Rate Not Really Matter?

YessMasster

I was in my 20s when TES IV was released and i remember vividly playing it at ~20fps with 10m draw distance (yes, my PC was bad at a time) so I can handle low framerates. However, I do not like low framerates I consider stable 30fps a bare minimum and anything lower gets hard to watch and play. And as much as I consider BotW one of the best (if not THE BEST) game of all times, it still pains me to know the framerates in the Hyrule Forest, it was pretty much unplayable. I love how 60fps feels, but I it's not something i need.

Re: "I Don't Think The Switch Needs A More Powerful Version" Says 'World War Z' Lead Designer

YessMasster

@sanderev Sorry, but i wholeheartedly do not agree with your stance. Games and hardware go hand in hand. XBox gamers, PS gamers, Nintendo gamers and PC gamers are all actually gamers and saying that group X or Y play boring games with just a fresh coat of paint is offensive. We all like to play games! That's it! You may not like certain games and someone else may not like the games you do, but that does not mean your games are better, it means people are different and like different things. Now, nintendo lives in its own bubble, and that's fine. They do keep their (awesome) major IPs close and dont let them out onto other platforms (perfectly fine), but many 3rd party games a) require lots of extra work from devs to optimize, and that may be a deterrent for devs, or they look worse due to weaker hardware or run less than 30fps, and that makes it worse for end user. And people these days are used to something better (and that's fine too). We have games running 60fps as current standard and heck, my phone can run some games with 144Hz (and has power to match that). And when i go back to play on my switch (which i love), i see the difference and i can imagine that for someone else that difference will result in a "i dont want to play on switch at all" choice

Re: Capcom Says It's Unable To Add Cross-Save And Cross-Play To Monster Hunter Rise

YessMasster

Being a gamedev and a programmer I really doubt it's impossible, MH just stores some basic info (inventory, exp, statistics) and these are just numbers. Capcom would need to dip on servers to hold that data, tho.

EDIT: Calrification: Actually all the saved data in any game are just numbers, but if we don't have to save position of player, enemies, map state, then there's just much less of that data.
