Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Sold More Copies Than The Entire Metroid Franchise

Yalaa

@DanTee Here is the problem. Samus gets tons of coverage and promotion in Super Smash Bros. but Japan doesn't care for Metroid, Europe doesn't care for Metroid its mostly North America but even then the small fandom that's still around cant agree which direction the series should take.

You've got one half of the fandom that nostalgically cares about 2D Metroid because that's what they grew up with and the other half which only cares for the FPS Prime series because that's what they grew up with.

Whenever a new game releases that's one or the other style its gets bashed by both sides because its not as good as Super or Prime and whenever Nintendo tries to balance both games or just try something different it gets even more backlash than usual. Either way the games never sell.

Some people will tell you Prime 4 will probably sell millions on Switch which is definitely possible but let's be real here, if Prime Hunters, 3, Trilogy, Other M, Federation, Returns all sold terribly on hugely successful consoles than what hope do traditional Metroid games have on the Switch other than by marketing the games to casuals something which the fandom is not going to like.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Sold More Copies Than The Entire Metroid Franchise

Yalaa

@PickledKong64 Nobody is going to listen to you because this is literally the only franchise where the fans blame the creator for every Metroid game underperforming. I can list the reasons why these games failed according to the fanbase that I've read over the years.

  • Super Metroid didn't sell? Nintendos fault for releasing it in '94 late SNES lifecycle meanwhile DKC trilogy outsold the whole Metroid franchise just on the SNES.
  • Zero Mission didn't sell? Nintendos fault because it's just another remake and on handheld we want Metroid on the Gamecube Nintendo!
  • Prime 2 didn't sell? Well its Nintendos fault because the Gamecube didnt sell.
  • Prime Hunters didnt sell? Its Nintendos fault because well... I mean It's not a real Metroid game... We wanted Prime 1 or Super on the DS... on a handheld... the multiplayer is fun... on a 150m+ selling handheld... yeah blame Nintendo.
  • Prime 3 didn't sell? Well, again, its Nintendos fault because Prime 3 just isn't as good as Prime 2 and 1.
  • Prime Trilogy didnt sell? Nintendos fault because... well its a good trilogy... with great controls... on a 100m+ selling console... but we already played it... it sold worse than their individual games... yeah it's still Nintendos fault that it didnt sell.
  • Other M didnt sell? Oh Yeah this is totally Nintendos fault for taking the franchise in a different direction! because fans hate the new Samus, they hate the controls and it's not developed by Retro. This game divided the Metroid fanbase and ruined its sales!!
  • Federation Force didnt sell? NINTENDO!!!
  • Samus Returns didnt sell? Why did you kill our fan game Nintendo?? Now were going to boycott your official Metroid 2 remake!!

And then we get the same old question... Where is Metroid Nintendo???

Re: So, Who Owns The Wonderful 101 IP Now? PlatinumGames Refuses To Say

Yalaa

@erv W101 is not a Nintendo property like Mario or Starfox so there is no reason to believe this is Nintendo testing the waters as a third party game developer.

W101 is like Pokemon in the sense that Nintendo co-owns the ip (I think like 30% or more) and would probably stop Game Freak from ever porting any Pokemon game to PS4 or Xbox.

Since W101's was a huge flop Nintendo just doesn't care for it to release it on other systems frankly I think it will flop again especially on non Nintendo consoles.

Re: So, Who Owns The Wonderful 101 IP Now? PlatinumGames Refuses To Say

Yalaa

I tried the Demo on WiiU and I wasn't convinced but I'm happy for those who are interested in this game.

W101 was a flop so I can understand why Nintendo doesn't care much for it to appear on other consoles but I definitely don't hope they'll do the same for Bayonetta 2/3 and Astral Chain which seems to be high on Platinums priority list.

Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore Dances Onto Switch Early Next Year

Yalaa

@Maxz Great comment! I mean what were these early WiiU adopters expecting, special treatment from Nintendo?

Gamecube and Wii games were ported to WiiU and nobody complained, but these WiiU adopters act like theyre the ultimate Nintendo fans by supporting a failed console. I own a WiiU and I would love to buy it's exclusives but why waste money on WiiU versions if it's superior on Switch anyway?

Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore Dances Onto Switch Early Next Year

Yalaa

@Starcakes Well for one the game has religious content altered, the boob slider removed and "suggestive" costumes censored in the western version.

I don't know about you but the XCX we got is, to those aware, widely accepted to be a dumbed down version because of the whole package not just because of a fictional 13 year old not allowed to wear skimpy outfits which I guess is all too easy for you to accuse others who are simply against terrible (self) censorship practices.

The fact that gamers have to go the extra mile to "fix" games like XCX, FE Fates, Fatal Frame 5, TMS and other games from the WiiU era says more about Nintendo being out of touch with gamers than about the gamers who pay for these games.

Re: Poll: Have You Ever Had Problems With Nintendo Hardware?

Yalaa

I've owned a Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, DS, Wii, 3DS & WiiU.

None had issues except my Gamecube stopped reading discs after a couple of years probably because it was a first generation model. So I can confirm Nintendo products mostly last for a long time.

My Sony owned products however...

  • PS2 stopped reading discs after 4 - 5 years
  • 60GB PS3 suddenly froze during online play after that stopped reading discs after 1,5 - 2 years
  • 80GB PS3 got the yellow light of death after 8 years
  • PS3 controller started drifting after 9+ years
  • Xperia Play blackscreen after 2 years

I got my 80GB PS3 fixed and i still use it cause its a great console. My Sony Bravia tv (2008) is barely working but im using a Samsung anyway and Sony headphones (2018) are the only Sony products I still got around but I won't be buying anymore products from them in the future.

Re: Japanese Developer Grezzo Handling The Switch Version Of Link's Awakening

Yalaa

@Trajan You should look up on Youtube "Was Majora's Mask a Bad Remake?" it explains everything very nicely though I would not blame Grezzo for all the small changes but Aonuma since he feels the original Majora's Mask was an embarrassing rushed job also he didn't want to remake MM he wanted fans to forget about it but because of demand they immideatly started development after OoT 3D but honestly i still prefer original MM.

Re: Oculus VR Chief Technology Officer Identifies Nintendo Switch As Market Competitor

Yalaa

VR is a fad, I really don't know why some people and particularly Sony fanboys are still denying this.

The technology just isn't there yet and both the price and specs requirements are ridiculous as well, it's just not worth the hassle nor the money.

People need to remember that the consumer pays for these gimmicks (motion controls, touch screen, 3D) if it's affordable, hassle free and actually fun to use hence why 3D tv's died out quickly because they're expensive and need you to put on some 3D glasses which nobody likes.

Until VR can reinvent itself it won't become popular anytime soon.

Re: Random: Star Fox: Grand Prix Rumour Could Make One Of Star Fox Command's Endings Canon

Yalaa

@BulbasaurusRex nahh, it's pretty clear Nintendo had no idea how to follow up Star Fox after it's long identity crisis and messed up storyline Command just made things worse and not to mention how the last 3 SF before Zero were made by 3 different developers all with their own interpretation of SF.

Zero was supposed to be a fresh start, hence the "Zero" I guess... Unfortunately they did a terrible job executing it and failed miserably to impress both old and new fans alike.

Re: Video: You Might Want To Make A Drink Before Watching This Metroid History Feature

Yalaa

@-Green- I bought the game day 1 and finished it that same week and let me tell you... This game is worth every penny it's one of the best Metroid games I've ever played and in my top 5 best Metroid games.

What your friend said however is true, i loved looking for and killing the Metroids but I understand how others can find this repetitive since there are 40 of them and killing them is the only goal of the game.

It's also one of the more linear Metroid games but this game just did so much right that it outweights it's flaws. One thing that I really love about it is its difficulty, it's pretty challenging even with the melee attack but like some have said, it could've used some less handholding.

Lastly i think the dying 3DS argument makes no sense, the system is still selling great and with many good games yet to release Samus Returns had no reason to sell this bad after all the drama fans made over Federation Force.

Re: Video: You Might Want To Make A Drink Before Watching This Metroid History Feature

Yalaa

@HawkeyeWii Yep, and that's the biggest problem Metroid always had: it's own fanbase.

The fans love to cite "Other M and Federation Force sold bad because they're bad games that nobody asked for!" or "Nintendo doesn't care about Metroid, WHERE IS MY METROID?"

Yet here we got Samus Returns selling a mere 185.000 units first week on the freaking 3DS. So what's the excuse now? It's not first person? Don't get me started on Prime Trilogy sales...

Re: Feature: A Long Journey Through Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Yalaa

Wind Waker got the same amount of hate because of it's artstyle when it was revealed now everybody embraces it.

It's a shame that the Metroid fanbase is filled with delusional and vocal fanboys who always have the same expectations for each new Metroid title that's not Super Metroid or Metroid Prime, instead of wanting the series to evolve they want it to stay the same which is why the series always struggles and Nintendo themselves don't know what to do with their ip.

Same goes for Star Fox.

Re: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Will Make Its Case on 3DS in November

Yalaa

@Knighty_IX Apollo Justice is indeed better than Dual Destinies

DD is really the worst in the series because the creator understood that dragging a story for too long will only worsen the plot and characters that's why he ended the trilogy and started with a new cast and protaganist which most people didn't like so Capcom decided to ignore all of what happened and bring Phoenix back as a regular clumsy attorney instead of the legend that he became.

AJ is a flawed but great game nonetheless.

Re: Star Fox 2 Developer Has A "Great" Idea For Switch, But Needs A Publisher

Yalaa

@NEStalgia While yes that is the most accepted and certainly logical explanation for Nintendo cancelling Star Fox 2, you've got to wonder Why Nintendo decided to make Star Fox 64 another linear on rails shooter instead of the tactical choose your path game that was Star Fox 2.

Not only that but they also rebooted the game and never revisited this tactics focused style of gameplay until Command on DS and it was quickly ignored for Star Fox 64 3D and only now after 20 years are they releasing Star Fox 2 which is not even the finished version.

Re: Star Fox 2 Developer Has A "Great" Idea For Switch, But Needs A Publisher

Yalaa

Yeah according to him, Star Fox Command was also a "great idea", so i'd rather never see him in any leading roles for a Star Fox game ever again but, then again, Star Fox has fallen so low over the years that not even Nintendo wants to mess with it no more, and Kamiya didn't get a chance to work on Star Fox like he wanted.

So i guess there's nothing good we can expect from another Star Fox title but only to hope for the best...

@RedMageLanakyn

lol THIS so much.

Re: Highly Regarded Game Composer, and Metroid Fan, is Working at Retro Studios

Yalaa

Plot twist: Retro hasn't been working on anything for the past 3 years and are just sitting around thinking about what the next Donkey Kong Country Returns should be called while the fans keep speculating their wildest dreams of a Prime 4 or new IP.

Actually, I think this is the real thing and their next game will probably be another DKCR.
