In one form or another the 3DS eShop has played host to almost the entire 'main' series of Ace Attorney games, including in the West; that requires us to brush off the lack of localisation of The Great Ace Attorney and its sequel, of course. In any case, Capcom is rounding off the collection with Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (originally release on DS in 2007 / 2008), which will head to the 3DS eShop in North America and Europe in November; all six 'main' games will therefore be available on the portable's download store, which is certainly rather neat.
Like we saw with Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy this one will be revamped with improved visuals and features. Some press release info and a whole lot of assets are below:
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney coming to Nintendo 3DS means that budding attorneys can see all the courtroom action from Apollo’s early days as a defense attorney in upgraded 3D graphics. Forensic investigation techniques play a vital part in analyzing the evidence to help solve some of the game’s mysteries. Utilizing the features of Nintendo 3DS, players can dust some crime scenes to search for fingerprints and also examine certain objects in a full 360 degrees to uncover hidden evidence! Will the fingerprints match any of the suspects on file and uncover new truths?
These investigation techniques combined with Apollo Justice’s magical bracelet that gives him the unique ability to detect lies during witness testimonies create a thrilling investigative journey.
In addition to the upgraded new look for Nintendo 3DS, this release includes the Japanese version of the game, allowing players to switch between the Japanese and English versions. More than just an alternative language option, keen eyes will be able to spot some differences in some background signs and art between the Japanese and English versions. Text skip options will also be available from the start.
Are you looking forward to this release?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
I've always wanted to try this series. Hopefully it will come to Switch.
Looking forward to it indeed, I have all the other AA games on my 3DS so this will round up the collection. Now Capcom if you're not going to localise the Japanese exclusive games can we at least get AA Investigations on the E-shop as well?
AA? Screw that, if it's not AAA 3rd party support I ain't buying it, getting a bit sick of this... 😉
As long as this revamped version doesn't revamp the lip flaps, I'm fine with that.
Ace Attorney Trilogy lip flaps: never forget
I'm fine! ...with the DS version.
What's awesome about this it is means the entire Ace Attorney series is now available on 3DS.
Sans the Investigation spin-offs anyway.
Thanks Capcom!
It's great and all but I'm curious as to when we'll be getting some juice on a Switch Ace Attorney title... That'd be swell, and looking at the fact that the Switch will be the next handheld, it might very well happen fingers crossed
Weakest entry in the series, I think. Wasn't a huge fan of Apollo.
@RupeeClock
Don't forget about the Great Ace Attorney. I almost feel inclined to buy this game again so Capcom may finally release every Ace Attorney game we miss. The Miles Edgeworth spin offs are both amazing. Especially Investigations 2. Knowing Capcom that might make too much sense for them.
I have the original DS version of this, but never played it. As it was a spin off from the main series I didn't have the urge to play it after completing the main trilogy. I'll hopefully get around to it at some point as I do love the old AA games. Dual Destinies just didn't have the same vide for me.
I still need to get the Miles Edgeworth Investigstions game on the DS. It's always quite expensive on eBay. Has anybody played that one? How does it compare with the main games?
Still have a slight glimmer of hope we'll see both 'The Great Ace Attorney' games one day.
Now I'll finally be able to claim and collect all of the mainline games legally - more than can still be said of many a franchise out there! The Japanese version with some original artwork is a welcome addition, too. The game itself was great - while Apollo hooked me less than Phoenix back then, it had an enticing story and some of my favourites in the series otherwise (including my favourite detective - I want Ema back!). As an in-universe chronicle, it kicked many things into overdrive, too. Glad to have Nick back in action nowadays, but this game is not to be missed, especially since the sequels tap into it directly.
Objection!
About time! Already got this on iOS, but I might double dip to have all the main Ace Attorney games on my 3DS 😃
Great, I was thinking on getting it on DS, but I have never seen the game in my country, so having it on my 3DS will be cool.
@GravyThief It's alright. The new method of investigation aren't better or worse than the main series, and the cases are decent. I would definitely get it if you're an Ace Attorney fan.
these guys know the switch is out, right?
Why? Would be better to release the untranslated ones or make new cases like malpractice or one where you have the advantage as a lawyer and the prosecutor has to play catch-up. Will probably try some fan games and hope I hit something original. Can't be worse than that steam ripoff, Regeria Hope.
I'm excited for this...now I'll be able to get all of the older AA games on my 3DS.
If only it had a physical release.
@GravyThief It's not a spin-off. It's Japan title is "Turnabout Courtroom 4" and is set 7 years after "Turnabout Courtroom 3 [Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations]".
You remember Case 5 from "Turnabout Courtroom [Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney]" which was designed to take advantage of the DS's features like rotating the evidence and fingerprint blowing? Well those features return in all 5 cases.
Apollo also has to use his bracelet to sense if the person is lying. I personally didn't like this gimmick that much.
Yes, finally!! Can't wait!
I just want The Great Ace Attorney games and ME: AAI2 please.
Cool. All 6 main games in one system!
I still have this on DS, so I'll pass. Bring over Miles Edgeworth 2 Capcom.
AA or MH. Always the same IPs.
Enjoy it while you can, the next Ace Attorney will be getting moved to PS4!!!!
Can't wait to try it
@dkxcalibur I would laugh.....but it's Capcom.
I just bought it on my phone..
@RadioShadow @Knighty_IX @LegendOfPokemon
Thanks for the info. From the sounds of it I'll probably get the Miles Edgeworth game once I've played Apollo Justice, but only if I can find it at a reasonable price. Doesn't sound like it's worth the £30-£40 boxed copies seem to go for on eBay!
@GravyThief If you're okay with downloading, my bet is that the older Ace Attorney games will go on sale between now and when the new one comes out. They usually have good sales on those games about 3-4 times a year.
This is the only one of the series (US release) I don't own. If I do go to purchase it, it will be for the DS game. It looks like it is going the same way as the trilogy, and will end up worse than the original.
I'll wait till its in a Sale like the other 3DS entries. Never did finish the DS original anyhow....
I'm so happy, I'm crying!!!!! I'd been asking for this well, ever since I got a 3ds! Or, ever since the PW trilogy came out? or AADD??? I don't know but I'd been asking for this FOREVER because AJ had always been hard to find (I only own a used copy) and I /wanted/ people to be able to play the FULL story, so they had availability for 1-3, 5, 6 and NOT 4 and it made me so sad (specially since that meant people would skip it--for valid reasons, since they couldn't find it)
BUT NOW!!! PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY AJ AS IT WAS INTENDED AND NEW GENERATIONS WILL BE ABLE TO BUY IT AND PLAY IT AND I AM SO HAPPY, FINALLY WE GET THE WHOLE AA THING ON THE ESHOP!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(did you know I hecking love Apollo Justice because I do, I do)
And... another port from Capcom. Happy for ANYONE who has not played it that likes AA games. Still a good entry, just doesn't have Phoenix in full force, but if you can get by that, it's still worth playing. Perhaps Capcom's next Switch projects will be a new entry from the Ace Attorney games? Won't get my hopes up of course as it's... well... Capcom, after all. This reminds me-- I need to get back to PW:AA:SoJ to finish it up. Damn my backlog sometimes.
Still think the best way to play these games is on iOS streamed to Apple TV so the family can work together to solve the cases and read the parts. It's a blast when you've got the right group together.
yes please, and the rest of them while you're at it
even though I have the physical version (have not gotten arround to playing it) I will still pick this up
really happy about this
About time! Hope all six entries make their way to Switch eventually
I sold my Apollo Justice cartridge earlier this year so I'll be glad to download it on 3DS.
So I'm no longer forced to buy the mobile version. Thank you.
Now for the price to be reasonable.
Edit: So it's $19.99. Just right.
I love the Phoenix Wright series but...why this? Seems like a waste of resources, they could've just ported the existing game over to the eshop (since DS games can be played on 3DS). The only major selling point I see here is better graphics, cause it's basically the same platform.
If it was the Switch you'd get TV mode (which I'd be interested in), and the last re-release was the Trilogy so you got more bang for the buck.
Capcom is a great developer with some really awesome games, but their decisions/support lately have been questionable (even from a strictly business standpoint).
This looks like fun! I wonder how Reggie the Red Devil will try to ruin it for everyone.
Nice! just bought 5 and 6 retail so I'll pick this up to round out my JPN collection.
For 20 bucks? nah that was a good deal for the first 3 games as a package, as much as I love AA games, I will wait for this one on a sale.
@Knighty_IX Apollo Justice is indeed better than Dual Destinies
DD is really the worst in the series because the creator understood that dragging a story for too long will only worsen the plot and characters that's why he ended the trilogy and started with a new cast and protaganist which most people didn't like so Capcom decided to ignore all of what happened and bring Phoenix back as a regular clumsy attorney instead of the legend that he became.
AJ is a flawed but great game nonetheless.
Perfect! That means I don't have to buy a used copy after I complete the Ace Attorney Trilogy.
@Jamotello True but they have a 123 collection in Japan, this is an easy port and it is the fourth in the series so they may not want to just pack up one game and move it to the switch while the rest of the story is on the 3ds. I'm expecting a full port of the series in a few years but I'll toss capcom some money now.
Excellent. Now if we could just get Miles Edgeworth Investigations 1&2 for 3DS and also The Great Ace Attourney 1&2.
Aw man, loved this game. Would love to see one big Ace Attourney collection on Switch! The writing is just SO good, from the first game to the most recent. The localization teams that work on this series do a fantastic job.
@Jamotello You do know 2DS and 3DS have sold 67 million, and Switch has sold 4.7 million, right?
@Ryu_Niiyama it's not even really a port. ds games work with the 3ds already. i'd call it more of a paid 3d update. i might be inclined to do the same as you and buy it for that feature as well as the convenience of a digital download title, but only if the price makes sense.
@Mahe the vast majority of those millions of 2ds and 3ds handhelds don't have the steady 3d of the new 3ds, and are likely not using the 3d feature they added. without 3d, then it's just the old ds game and that cart is already compatible. the convenience of a digital download is the only other major new feature they added to it.
@Jamotello Yeah, nobody cares about the 3D. Lots of 2DS systems out there, and even many 3DS owners turn the 3D off... including New 3DS owners.
But the graphics have still been updated and there are other additions, so it's more like an enhanced port. This will look better on a 2DS system than the original DS game does.
I just get every Ace Attorney game I can. I don't care if I have the cartridges and digital versions. I don't see it on Switch anytime because Switch is starting to go downhill. The only AA games I can play on the TV screen is the first 3 that were on the Wii store.
@GravyThief Apollo Justice Ace Attorney is actually the fourth main game in the series, not a spin off.
