Call of Duty: Ghosts will be rocking a new clan system when it launches soon, allowing fans to form cross-platform battle groups for the game's popular online multiplayer modes.
However, something troubles us about the official FAQ for this element of the shooty-shooty, bang-bang game:
Clans in Call of Duty: Ghosts will include deeper in-game integration and more features, from in-game Clan Management and Clan–specific playlists to the all-new Call of Duty Clan Wars game mode available in the new Call of Duty app. This year also introduces cross-platform Clans, allowing players to create and/or join a single Call of Duty: Ghosts Clan across the following platforms: including Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
Notice a system missing there?
When asked on Twitter about the omission of the Wii U, Activision's Dan Amrich responded:
https://twitter.com/OneOfSwords/statuses/394995746820620289
Amrich is unable to give any solid explanation as to why Nintendo's console is being left out of the clan party, but as soon as we know, you'll know.

As long as that Extinction mode is there and we get the eventual DLC I'll be happy.
I'm sure the sheer difficulty of porting what is basically a spreadsheet to Wii U is the reason.
Probably because it's a Nintendo console. Seriously why are we even surprised about news like this any more? This is like the 3rd generation straight now that 3rd party efforts receive the "special" treatment with very little reason as to why.
Is this isn't a typing error/or can't provide a great miiverse alternative then activision is lying.
bad news... if i had a good pc or another console at the moment, i would boycott the wii u version. guess the servers will be pretty empty anyway...
Because servers are expensive.
I'm sick of the Wii U getting half features. I'm sick of Mario.
What the hell?? It's nonsense. I could understand it if the new gen's versions weren't included either, but come on... Only the Nintendo platform?? There's no logical reason to do this.
I mean, it's not something that bothers me, I didn't even intend to buy this game, but for those who were expecting this game, it must be a pain in the ass
Ugh! Nintendo gets the shaft again. Well here's another 3rd party game I won't buy. Do these companies expect us to buy games that are only half complete.
I think screwing the Wii U has become sort of an inside job in the industry
"but come on... Only the Nintendo platform?? There's no logical reason to do this."
What's even more baffling are the handful of games slated for X1/PS4/360/PS3/PC and NOT Wii U. At that point, with a version of the game on every console but Wii U it's just a slap to the face.
I keep saying it, but its true: Wii U's perception has become its reality, and that is more damning than anything else when considering its struggles.
Thank the heavens for the 3DS' commercial success.
This won't affect me but it wouldn't surprise me if the feature was on Wii U but was left off a press release (like the game's existence on Wii U was for months). I'm more worried about the other features that might go walkies and the fact this game could well half the number of people I can fight on BO2.
Having said that, I think BO2 could have done with being a more streamlined version on Wii U in the first place because half the options don't have people playing..
Nintendo said they were trying to get the "core" gamers back. Calling it Wii U, releasing Wii Party U, and Wii Fit U really go against this.
The Wii U seems to be getting more support than the wii ever did. Especially from ubisoft so I am very okay with this. Also, call of duty seems all the same to me
@gatorboi352 Yep. Wii U will fail because Ghosts didn't have a spreadsheet! Oookay!
This is silly and you're all overreacting. This doesn't affect me. I'll still buy it if its ever on sale.
So much harder being a Wii U owner then a Wii owner, at least back then we knew we weren't going to get most 3rd party games now its if we're even going to get a complete version which I find much more annoying. Thankfully I'm getting a PS4 next year and already have a PS3.
@Falchion Half hearted support mostly which is almost as bad as no support especially when most of the time the Wii U version is the most expensive(at least in the UK).
@SirMime ditto
well that is why there is more than one console out there
@Falchion
That's only because it launched a year earlier than Next Gen Consoles and the 7th gen consoles are still going strong, once the industry move completely to 8th Gen (that'll be in 2 years I think) third party support for the Wii U will completely die
servers are cheap for microsoft, they use their own technology and do not charge themselves for it. Everyone else has to cough up money to server software providers (AKA Microsoft).
i've really enjoyed BOP2 on wii u... apart from the lack of people playing online at any one time... so i agree with @nintenjoe64 ... Ghosts will just deplete that number even more.
its chicken and egg... should i convert to Ghosts early and run around on my own... or wait till more people have it?
What i do really value is the fact i don't have to buy a monthly 'pass' to play online so thumbs up to nintendo for that!
Im not so sure we are ever going to see this game on Wii U full stop.
My reasoning being is that www.metacritic.com have removed the listing for Call of Duty Ghosts for the Wii U - Now they only list it for the Microsoft and Sony consoles with the countdown to release.
Followed with more evidence that if you check out the official website http://www.callofduty.com/uk/en/ghosts/wheretobuy
Select PreOrder then WiiU and then read the message it gives you.
For those that don't want to bother I have cut and pasted the message:
'Current selection is unavailable in your region. Check back for updates.'
I have changed the region to USA and others and all get the same message
Make of it what you will!
@CrabGats Yeah you totally did not read my posts before replying. Wii U's struggles are MUCH bigger than this story's news.
you need an on game clan system to be in a clan? Man, the clans I have been in are not single game orientated.... and we all just use vent or something.
I have always bought a second console to play "other" games:
Gamecube and PS2
Wii and 360
Wii U and 360 until games come out, then PS4
The disappointing thing with the Wii U is the fact that it should be able lo let us play all kind of games...
@Jazzer94 Yeah, because the Wii really got some pristine CoD ports. Too bad we can't have a true CoD on Wii U, huh?
Nah, this affects no one planning on picking up the Wii U version. It's a convenience feature. What will matter is the quality of the port, the inclusion of all the modes, and, too some, the availability of DLC.
That said, there should be features exclusive to Wii U as well: Wiimote controls, dual screen local multi, gamepad radar map, and off-TV play. Those are all more useful for the average Wii U owner than a clan system...
@ACK When did I say Wii had good ports of COD, and there are so many other things like DLC that haven't been confirmed either which is why my previous post highlights the fact how I hate the uncertainty of Wii U 3rd party multiplatform titles.
@ACK That said, there should be features exclusive to Wii U as well: Wiimote controls, dual screen local multi, gamepad radar map, and off-TV play. Those are all more useful for the average Wii U owner than a clan system...
Don't you think is suspicious that there is nothing released in the form of announcements, gameplay video or exclusive features for Wii U in terms of COD Ghosts on the WiiU?
All the YouTube videos marked as Wii U COD Ghosts are either BOpps 2 video or still screen shots of other platforms.
If I was a betting man I would stake a lot of money that this wont be arriving on the 5th November for Wii U, if it does arrive it will be like BOpps 2 way after the other formats, and that's a BIG IF....
Every third party game has something missing from the other versions. What incentive do I have to buy a Wii U when my 360 offers the superior version in terms of content? My 3DS handles my daily Nintendo craving and I can take it with me on the go! The only thing that MIGHT get me to purchase a Wii U would be what happened with the Gamecube. Cut the price again and bundle it with a AAA game. I would gladly pay $200 if Mario Kart 8 or SSB4 were included. I fear that is the only way they are going to see significant sales. Mario 3D World will provide a bump but it won't last. Sorry if I sound like I'm being hard on the Wii U, but they just keep making amazing games for 3DS and announcing new ones that interest me like the new Kirby game and Yoshi's New Island. Wii U just does not. A Starfox or Metroid title would at least grab my attention.
That's a bummer for those that wanted to play in a clan on Wii U. Cross-platform multiplayer would've boosted the available online matches hugely. Not like I'm interested in this game on any platform though
@Laxeybobby
Why do you think that. The only reason Black Ops 2 came late, was because it came out on the Wii U launch day! They won't release it before launch!
Nintendo themself announced the game on their Facebook page, followed by an announcement on the official Call of Duty twitter page, saying that it would launch on the 5th of november, using the next gen engine.
Also metacritic does have a Wii U page, saying that it'll release in 6 days.
If you did make a bet, I'm sure you'd lose it.
Maybe in 10 years.
@Kroisos LMAO! Best thing I've read in a while!
It really is sad that so many people look down at the Wii U like if it wasn't a fully capable console, ever since I bought a Wii U I haven't touched my 360. I know Nintendo is still playing catch-up when it comes to online features but they ARE making progress and when sales pick up (and they will) you'll see that 3rd party developers are gonna be as enthusiastic about supporting the U as they where before it launched, but for now it is what it is
@marnelljm $200 is way to cheap for a Wii U bundled with a game especially seeing as several bundles offer 2 games with a Wii U for $250 which I think is a great deal.
@WiiLovePeace It's not cross-platform play, that's something they won't as long as MS is there. Your clan is just cross-platform, you can have friends from other platforms in your clan, who can then fight on that platform to earn your clan recognition, but you can't all play together.
@Jazzer94 So you find it easier being a Wii owner because you knew you weren't getting the multiplatform ports, if they were even available?
I, for one, appreciate every port the Wii U is getting. Even if the ports aren't ideal or I don't have interest currently... These are all more games I can pick up down the road in the bargain bin to keep up. During the Wii generation that wasn't even an option.
@Laxeybobby I share your concern, but from my experience this sort of shrouded port usually releases, though that may be as a substandard version. I just want some clarification on those features and certainly would like to see some proper footage. Maybe it's a product of advertising resources, but there definitely is reason to question if the only port being handled outside Infinity Ward +by the respectable Treyarch, who know Nintendo hardware) is so far M.I.A...
@bail Black Ops 2 had many people online at a time, I never had to wait long for a game. Of course, it's been ages since I played.
@Jazzer94 If they want the sales, that's what they're going to have to do. Like I said not bashing the Wii U in any way, but they need to wake up. This console, like the Gamecube will be the second console to a PS4 most likely.
Yay another port with less features that it console cousins.
@Laxeybobby Off Tv play for BO2 was awesome, as was 2 player non split screen - one using gamepad screen and the other using the entire TV screen. If Ghosts keep this, it's way better than having Cross platform clans, which is really a weak selling point and won't add a single bit of extra fun.
If they did have Cross platform clans on Wii u and I get it, I'd start a Wii U only clan and to make fun of everyone else's inferior version.
@ACK Last gen if you only owned a Wii most multiplatform releases weren't available on the system so you only had the option of getting another console to play them (I had Wii and PS3), for Wii U we know its perfectly capable of handling every multiplatform release for PS3 and 360 yet when we do get them we get missing online no DLC and higher prices etc. I want to support 3rd party on Wii U but its really hard to justify buying inferior versions of games for Wii U the only multiplatform game I own that I feel was equal if not better than other console versions is Teken TTT2. Not hating just sharing my opinion.
I don't get why the Wii U still has missing features when its plenty more capable than the 360/ps3.
@marnelljm But Gamecube also had plenty of core Nintendo franchises like Star Fox, Metroid and F-Zero being released for it games I wish would come to Wii U.
@Moose_4 Exactly what I was saying as well.
@Laxeybobby I didn't get any of that when I tried your link. I already have a pre-order through GameStop. Activision already commented on the graphics of the wii u version and how they are proud of it.
@Laxeybobby
"My reasoning being is that www.metacritic.com have removed the listing for Call of Duty Ghosts for the Wii U - Now they only list it for the Microsoft and Sony consoles with the countdown to release."
Uh...it's still there.
http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii-u/call-of-duty-ghosts
For someone that does not like the Call of Duty Series, I played the crap out of Back Ops 2. It was sad that Activision never really supported it, but with it being a launch title and they were unsure of sales for I will at least give them the benefit of a doubt. But with the lack of acknowledgment they have expressed for Ghosts on WiiU it just shows they really don't care or just don't want to really try and support that group of gamers. With Battlefield and EA being absent on WiiU Activision could have captured that entire market if they would have at least shown a little love. But then again, maybe that's why they're not trying too hard. Without a competitor on WiiU they don't have to try hard. If people want a FPS on it they will buy COD or nothing at all.
no clans and probably no dlc, Are you ****** kidding me activision?
@ferthepoet shouldnt that lead to less support now? With the other consoles going so strong there is no reason for ubisoft or activision to support the wii u. Personally i am pretty greatful. And will try to support them, even with a few less features.
To all the people now saying "I'm not buying this game now that this/that feature isn't in it!",
You are adding to the problem! They give us gimped ports to constantly test to see if the investment will pay off and if we, as the console owners and game players don't support these titles (not blindly buying everything and anything, but those that will hold a candle to the other console versions, I don't care about "Clans" personally, so this is not an impediment to my purchase) then they have ammunition to take into financial briefings and convince the CEO and Directors to stop supporting our platform of choice. The game is going to be fun, just as BLOPS 2 was... even though it was denied all DLC! We still got Off-TV Play, Dual Screen Multiplayer, Dual Screen Zombies, GamePad map and inventory and all of the same (minus any added by DLC) modes for online. The only difference is that we weren't able to add to our game on the Wii U, through DLC purchases. I imagine that Ghosts on the Wii U will get the same treatment as BLOPS 2 did, as far as DLC goes, but why should we have to pay more to enjoy the game? Can you not be challenged in many ways when you jump into an online game? I know that I can and I enjoy the game just as much without the DLC and "Cross Platform Clans" as I would with those things added. Don't turn from purchasing the Wii U version just because you can't "Earn rep through cross platform clans"... that's just a weak reason to buy it on another console. Do the other consoles have Off-TV play? Multi-Screen Multiplayer? Touchpad integration? Free online (since you already pay for internet)? No? Then the other consoles are the ones that are missing out, not Wii U owners. Don't hate on the Wii U version just because it's not gonna have a vestigial feature, that's like hating a friend because they had their appendix removed! Just enjoy the game and don't worry about what everyone else has, because they won't be able to enjoy the game from ANYWHERE in their home, like all Wii U owners can! Play for fun, not for clan rep. Enjoy games for the fun that they are meant to incite!
It's the Microsoft/Sony conspiracy at work once again.
@twistedbee, thats very true, and I have said a few times that Nintendo needs a great online multiplayer FPS to go against COD, Battlefield, halo and all the other FPS. obviously Nintendo would need a top of the line IP to compete, in this case it could be Metroid Prime, all who played metroid prime hunters for the DS should have an idea of what it could be like, imagine it but on a much bigger scale (and better controls), customizable options for your weapons/armor for online matches, 1080p @ 60fps, different game modes, a rich campaign mode... a guy could dream right
@Buduski I agree. I like Killzone being Sony's thing. I think Nintendo should have a shooter franchise. They are really missing that. They need to give Cliff Blizinski access to Metroid or Starfox and let him run with it. They need to move towards modern gaming as a compromise. That would spark long term sales for this generation. They need to stop going local with Konomi or Namco. Maybe even strike up a deal with Bungie or Naughty Dog.
It looks like they are also dropping the DLC, http://www.gamnesia.com/news/cod-ghost-dlc-no-longer-listed-for-wii-u
The vast majority realizes that people aren't going to buy a Wii U specifically to play Call Of Duty Ghosts. Why would anyone? When deciding to make a purchase, you want the best version possible, not a hand me down. I am holding on, but it is really difficult for me not trading the Wii U in for a PS4. Nintendo has always had that must have game with every system they released. Not the case with the Wii U . I just don't understand it. By the way, I played Wind Waker 10 years ago on the Gamecube. Been there done that. I think I have a right to be upset.
I don't see why it would be on literally every console except Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One has a significantly lower install base than even The Wii U do that excuse doesn't make sense. And to have every console included except one doesn't make sense from a developer standpoint or a consumer standpoint. Something is missing? Or somebody needs firing. I'll still be buyin, it's not a deal breaker for me. But seems ridiculous to omit something so basic yet a new feature.
@Dogpigfish, I wouldn't want Nintendo to turn all there franchises into shooters but they could use at least one exclusive shooter of there own, and Namco actually help Nintendo with the online modes for wii sports club which should drop soon to the e-shop, I just hope they keep trying to get support for more online features on there IP & even though a Naughty Dog or Bungie collaboration with Nintendo would be awesome I doubt it will ever happen but that metroid prime idea could be beyond epic if Retro studios and Bungie where to collaborate on that together
whatever... I'm not planning to give any more cent to activision for another COD. they are so lazy making COD games nowadays. you can see from the campaigns. awful storys. yeah we know the online is everything for aactivision in a COD game. but seriously. where's your professionalism? if the servers go down you simply don't play COD. campaign mode seems like a tutorial for me. no no no... no more € for the lazy guys of activision. with the battlefield being better and better cod series are doomed.
No purchase from me then!
Hey Activision and 3rd Party developers who publish their games on Wii U: Nobody's going to buy your games if they are half-baked, we desserve the same amount of features than the other consoles but if y'all going to give us games with less stuff it's like saying: -"Ha! Wii U users... who cares about them, let's give them this game with tons of bugs and a lot of missing features and if it doesn't sell we would blame Nintendo and talk how doomed it is"- It's developers fault the reason why 3rd Party games are failing on Wii U, not the customers. I'm done with this issues on 3rd Party games on Wii U. The only 3rd Party game who did a brillinat job on including a lot of features and great Gamepad integration is Rayman Legends... but that's because it was originally planned to be a Wii U exclusive. Sigh
@DrkBndr Oh really? Ah ok, that's nowhere near as interesting then. Not that big of a loss for the Wii U version thankfully.
We have no hope of third party support gauging by the majority of comments here. The amount of people who aren't going to buy this game for the exlusion of this worthless feature (only helpful if you intend to buy the game for multiple platforms) is alarming.
Never mind, we'll likely have dual screen multiplayer, off-TV play, and Gamepad radar... All unavailable on other platforms. It makes perfect sense to me why they excluded this clan system, likely to be largely unused on a Wii U version. Wouldn't we rather they focused that energy improving the port and Wii U-specific features?
We can't have it all. The Wii U features (so important to us) we expect take extra effort to develop and optimize. Meanwhile, the sales are unlikely to compensate. Something has to give. If our expectations are this rigid and unrealistic, we don't deserve these games whatsoever.
@Jazzer94 You and me both. I would buy a Wii U if they would develop a Star Fox game for it. The gamepad is perfect for it. Imagine using the screen as the Arwing H.U.D. Flat out stupidity on Nintendo for not making this happen.
Why am I not surprised?
It's like Nintendo and/or Activision haven't the slightest intention of letting the Wii U version be a viable option for online-players who are able to play ANY other version.
LOL! Well, one less purchase of your product for you Activision (or who ever it is). This was genuinely the only thing that excited me about the whole game & for me it was quite a big one too because I really miss some clans I had on other games.
It's like they want it to fail. Then they can save money not porting to the U, save money not running U servers. And best of all, they can blame Nintendo for the "install base".
What a screwjob for Wii U owners. You want to support these releases because you want the system to succeed, but the vaunted third parties keep giving you perfectly good reasons to not buy.
It still doesn't make a lot of sense...
@DrkBndr
What are you doing! Overreaction is what this topic needs not common sense!
disappointing but no deal breaker... never been in a clan or plan to be. just need random people online to shoot at... and some dlc would be nice.
@Laxeybobby Scroll down the page and at the very end : Freefall Map not available on Wii-U version. WHY?
@AdanVC You should try Deus EX: HRDC for the Wii U then, that is how 3rd party titles for the Wii U should be done!
@Shworange You a moron once again.
Anyone crying over how Activision are screwing Wii U owners over don't realize that the Wii U is plagued with problems. Poor sales, hardware that is barely better than the PS3, Nintendo not stepping up to the plate to provide games that are good and sell well, weak online structure in comparison to PlayStation 3/4 and Xbox 360/One, etc., etc., etc. Activision is simply cutting their lost for when the game almost certainly underperforms. All blame should go to Nintendo for their failure to properly support the console.
@Falchion That is bull. The Wii had a lot of third-party support and many good third-party games that started on the platform or are exclusive. The Wii U has seen the worst third-party support of any Nintendo console and it doesn't help Nintendo's offering aren't up to snuff.
If Nintendo is smart, they'll scrap the console by late 2016 and go back to what made them so fantastic before the Wii U.
Does this mean the Wii-U version will be cheaper? I'm going to bet a big flat "NO" on this one. Nintendo Wii-U owners crossed the line and accepted watered down titles for regular pricing. So why would any game developer waste time and resources on features they don't have to? It's not like Wii-U owners won't purchase this title out of desperation.
@astarisborn94 even if the wii u has less 3rd party support, it has higher quality and is not plagued by sequels of the same sport game. But ur right the wii has decent third party support, but the wii u appears to me to b getting more AAA titles even if they are only from ubi. Also, the wii had the same cut of features when it recieved a high quality game, mainly in the terms of dlc...
Also, if nintendo cut their newest console in less than 4 years it would b terrible. They would lose all faith and anger the people who bought the wii u. And i bet releasing a new console would change nothing about the games... Which is why i buy a system...
If this is fact and not a screw up it's activision so I wouldn't be surprised. This is coming from a company who did the most minimal effort to get Black Ops 2 on the system, then had the gall to piss and whine publicly about it. When you do a half cocked effort and don't bother to optimize code for a system, you get garbage results. By leaving out the CLANS on this, it shows that they're not willing to take the time to setup the client and rosters needed to get this flowing on the WiiU and it's damning.
I'd say people need to stand up to this garbage, but then you open the door for those jerks to whine 'why bother because no one buys it on WiiU as the figures show.' They would point the finger never at them cutting corners and being as cheap and lazy as possible as they'd get in trouble for it. Sadly there is nothing that can be done short of people sucking it up and buying a million copies, but even then they'd probably brush it off. As long as third parties want to make one excuse or another to not put something on a Nintendo CONSOLE (handheld we know is fine) or put it there with cut corners and laziness in play you can't do much. You're damned if you do (boycott) or don't (buy it and suffer.) They will just blame Nintendo and their fanboys for having higher standards and wasting most their dough on first party stuff because many are anticompetitive crybabies at a certain level.
Why are people getting so worked up over this? Its a freaking spread sheet for eff sake! We are still getting all the other features mostly. There still will be dedicated servers cool your tits. You know what will hapen if people don't buy this? Activision could say screw it and not give us COD at all
Ok, so here's my opinion on this matter:
I understand people being upset over the continued disparity between Wii U versions and other consoles, but come on.... this is small potatoes people. It's the same CoD we know and love, and will have full online with co-op, competitive, and the Extinction mode. That's all I care about to be honest. The hell with all this clan stuff.
It's like when Wii U games don't get a specific round of DLC that nobody would ever buy in their right mind, yet people complain about it simply for the sake of disparity. Seriously people, even with Splinter Cell Blacklist and the missing local co-op, I couldn't have cared less. I do my Splinter Cell co-op online like the rest of the western world, just like I do my MH3U co-op. If I'm going to play LOCAL co-op, it's going to be a game like Rayman Legends, Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3 or DKC Tropical Freeze. Games meant to be played together.
And Batman Arkham Origins multiplayer? Didn't care about that either. Truth is, I wouldn't have played that garbage. Only the best online modes and games will get my time, because there's only so many hours in a day, and only so many days a week. And as good as the Arkham games are, they're a single player game and always have been, and we all know it. And we all know the multiplayer mode was tacked on bs to help their bullet point presentation of features.
So who cares about this pittly crap, really? The game will be just as enjoyable as the last 10 CoD games, and no different whatsoever as far as functionality. You can still play with whoever you want online, and that's all I need right there.
Please watch the profanity — TBD
Oh no! The other versions get a special gold-colored AK47 and the Wii U doesn't! Well screw that I'm boycotting the game- I'm not buying this crap if it doesn't get the special gold gun. Lazy developers gimping the game. This game is crap without that gold gun- it's ruined. Nobody should buy the game now, we oughta let these developers know we don't buy half-donkeyed ports.
This is what the Nintendo fan has come to.
[shakes head and sighs]
Please watch the profanity — TBD
I remember the days when joining a clan was as simple as appending a few letters to your name.
Does this mean no clans AT ALL for Wii U, or just that Wii U players can't create cross-platform clans??
http://youtu.be/U6h9l5Gb5hE
@JaxonH
I for one am not happy with a game that is not up to par with 6 year old hardware.
It's okay to disagree, but please, let's refrain from insulting other users — TBD
@verymetal Wonderful 101 is the best title on Wii U currently. I call it must have. And I'm sure SM3DW will be a GOTY contender if not outright be the GOTY
oh nooooo clans missing from a copy and paste fps title. no one who owns a wii u is sad enough to buy this yearly junk. i dont think its big deal that wii u owners get to clan with their xbox one loving friends. because once again wii u owners arent that sad.
@marnelljm why would Nintendo want to make Starfox?
The last game didn't even break 300k copies.... So where should they put their resources? A game that flopped in its last outing? Or game that sold multi-million copies like 3D Mario or Donkey Kong.... Yeah I can see why Nintendo is choosing to make Mario, Zelda, and Donkey kong over Starfox, Metroid and F Zero.
If they made Starfox, they will sell 20,000 new consoles.... When Mario drops! they will sell several times that.... Its priorities that any business cannot ignore. You can't make any money trying to please the niche gamers at the beginning of the generation.
Heh, even without a clan feature, I still feel like giving this a look see on the WiiU at the very least. I just hope that some sort of miiverse feature for this titile can compensate
@element187
"And I'm sure SM3DW will be a GOTY contender if not outright be the GOTY"
I wish the Wii U would have more success in the third party area. i really love Wii U. but i came to terms and know for third party as it was intended i must go PS4/PS3. hopefully they start bringing full games to Wii U instead if these half assed ports. until then it's Sony for third party.
@SetupDisk lololol. Still have mine preordered. I couldn't care less about this feature. Anyone care to play online my sn is the same as here on blops2 in wii u and look forward to killing you on ghosts.
@element187 Don't give me that crap. Star Fox, F-Zero, and Metroid would sell a lot better if Nintendo even bothered to promote and advertise these franchises. Star Fox 64 3D had NO promotion other than the announcement E3 trailer. Metroid Other M? NO promotion and it quickly became infamously hated on the internet. F-Zero? Have they EVER advertised that franchise? Not that I can remember. These franchises could EASILY appeal to the "core" gamers that populate Xbox and PlayStation that Nintendo is trying so hard to win back. Mario just isn't enough anymore and won't win these gamers over. The Zelda franchise is losing its power on the home console front, becoming more of a handheld-seller.
Don't expect Smash Bros to do anything for the Wii U. The 3DS version is going to cannibalize the Wii U version's sales, especially in Japan. People are becoming increasingly more interested in the 3DS version.
Donkey Kong? Returns sold well because it was the return of a much-beloved classic. Tropical Freeze probably won't do as well as people think it will. Metroid or Star Fox could see a similar return, but not if Nintendo won't give them the same treatment as Mario.
At this point I don't understand why Activision even bothers releasing a Wii U version considering there is no sign of the pre-order bonus, unlikely to be DLC and they barely even acknowledge a Wii U version exists.
@IceClimbers
Thats very true, they could do a lot more with those franchises theres no denying that, but a console launch isn't the time to experiment with niche franchises. If they released them now who would be there to buy them? Existing fans who already like those franchises sure, but what about everyone else? If I've never even heard of Metroid or Star Fox would I even bother shelling out for a console to play it, or would I just wait and pick it up later when its cheap?
How exactly is Zelda losing its power on consoles? Because of a game released late into the Wii's life cycle and a remake?
I'll give you DK but I don't see Smash Bros. having any problems. People in Japan might prefer the 3DS version but to many people its a console game first and foremost. People are going to want to sit around a TV and play with friends, not split themselves between handhelds. If you have a family would you buy each person a 3DS and a copy of the game, or the Wii U version?
The clans don't matter that much, IMO. It's just regular news that 3rd parties don't support Nintendo fot basically no reason.
All these 3rd parties are weak. If I really want to play their games, it will be the Wii U version. I'm not buying their crap on anothher system, because I won't have anything but a Wii U for a while.
No game on Wii U, no buy from me. BTW, I want an Xbox One, I just won't be able to get one for a LONG while.
3rd parties need to get their asses in gear if they don't want to look like idiots on the Wii U.
We all know this isn't Nintendo's fault, right here.
Okay, I read through a majority of the posts here and the only thing I can think of is that this is a problem that makes itself:
Spend less on Wii U version = less capabilities on Wii U version = less sales = less support for another Wii U game = repeat.
The only things that I see changing the Wii U's future are Nintendo expanding their company (either into more workers, more 2nd parties, or more IPs) or other companies building Wii U and Nintendo up themselves.
Let us face it. Other companies are not willing to prop Nintendo up themselves. And even if they did, Platinum is still being laughed at for all their work on Wonderful101. Even if it was better than Zelda OoT, people would still shun it on the basis that there isn't a Non-Nintendo model.
Sadly, the only thing I see making Nintendo better (aside Nintendo improving themselves) is either the XBox One(Eighty) or the PS4 having a Critical Error that ends up bricking the machines or destroying the hardware/software or causing worldwide News level security breaches. We even saw the US Military bashing the XBox One(Eighty) and the gamers of the world forgave them after they made a few (but not all) of the changes demanded.
@marnelljm
I'm kind of in the same boat with regards to Wii U, but I also have to admit I'm more of a PlayStation guy so I was always going to wait for PS4 first unless the Wii U had a phenomenal library of games I couldn't play anywhere else. That said I didn't expect its first year to be as dreadful as it has been (finally getting a little better but still no must-haves until Mario 3D World). I don't know if I blame Nintendo for all this though, it really has tried to secure third party support but these third parties 98% of the time are just so damn lazy with the ports. Leaving out certain modes whether singleplayer or online, not releasing DLC, it's all a joke. These companies complain their games don't sell on Nintendo's consoles but how do they expect them to sell when the games have maybe half an effort put into them? In the case of a company like Criterion which worked tirelessly to bring the best version of Need For Speed Most Wanted to Wii U only to get 'rewarded' with abysmal sales of about 10K, I understand the frustration. No other company has a legit excuse though. I guess some would say Nintendo should find a way to force these companies to try harder, but there's only so much it can do. Can't go to Activision for example and just demand it puts clan support in CoD. And if you tick them off maybe you don't get CoD at all? I'd guess from Nintendo's perspective some form of CoD: Ghosts being on the Wii U is better than none and I'm inclined to agree given CoD's popularity.
I wish for Wii U owners though that the third parties would try harder. It's really only Ubisoft that has given a damn and I'm sure that company isn't seeing sales it would like either, but at least it hasn't stopped trying. Have to give some credit for that, and I'm not a huge fan of Ubi's games outside of Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell.
I have this on preorder and can't wait for it to arrive. Playing multiplayer off-tv on the game pad is something I'm really looking forward to.

Hey, I was joking. I say the same thing every time with these types of articles. Take it easy, lighten up and relax. By the way, the next time you call someone a moron, don't forget the word "are" in your complete sentience. Thanks.
From what I've seen so far, Clans is a nice mode to fall back on and will be nice to test strategies. Oh well, I'm still getting the game on Wii U.
Blame Activision, not Nintendo. Stupid to remove such a simple function from the WiiU copy of this game. I am still a buyer on WiiU though!
@FutureAlphaMale Not sure what you are implying. Are you making fun of the statement or...? Because it looks more like those lakers are watching your avatar. Would make the most sense anyway.
Well, this conversation certainly took a turn for the worse.
COD:G is probably going to be just as horrible as the rest of the ports the Wii U has gotten. They're always half-baked from what I can tell, and usually released later than their Sony and Microsoft counterparts (which you'd think would mean better quality but of course not).
@element187 "Wonderful 101 is the best title on Wii U currently."
"I'm sure SM3DW will be a GOTY contender if not outright be the GOTY"
It's the same story all over again. Nintendo has always gotten gimped online modes. Historically It's hurt their third party reputation almost as much as their family friendly image. The Gamecube lost out on many games that were online on Xbox and PS2. The Wii didn't help matters with it's friend codes and overly protective chat restrictions.
The problem is most people who buy Call of Duty play it online and are very serious about it. These people probably already have either a 360 or PS3, or have ordered one of the new systems. The Wii U version was never going to be a priority for them, I'm actually surprised they bothered at all.
lol all the wining people.
all because of clans?
why do you even care about that.
@Davidiam007
I just checked the link again http://www.callofduty.com/uk/en/ghosts/wheretobuy and selected WiiU as the platform then Standard Edition as that's all it offers and then United Kingdom as the region and I still get in red font 'Current selection is unavailable in your region. Check back for updates.'
Maybe its because it reads the IP address, which would indicate I am on the Isle of Man!
I know my comments have evoked a few replies. Re the meta critic listing it was listed on the Wii U page on the coming soon section. Now you have to type it in the search field and its missing a cover image that all the other versions have.
Please don't misunderstand me I have pre-ordered this via www.game.co.uk
and I have had all the previous incarnations. These small things just rang alarm bells for me.
I still think the WiiU version is shrouded in mystery, with little to no promoting around WiiU game play videos / trailers and WiiU specific features.
@Cuddles Same. I want some change!
And this is why I pre-purchased the PC version. With all these "why bother" attitudes from developers regarding the Wii-U, it's pretty much self-fulfilling prophesy that the Wii-U versions won't sell.
The reasons I believe nobody buys CoD on the Wii U are 1) there is no need to buy a Wii U unless you only had a Wii because CoD is on the PS3 and the 360. 2) We get P.O.S. copies of the game, (I mean copies that are not full relatively)in this case clans, Free Fall and the MW2 Ghost preorder bonus(and what appears to be no DLC again In MW3 and BO1 we were missing kill streaks and DLC on the Wii versions.)Then it's the gamers fault when they don't sell many Wii U copies, and people who don't buy it on the Wii U just because of things like that are not helping .
To go along with my previous post the when the need to purchase a new console arrives I think people will buy the Wii U due to it's lower price tag, if and when that happens the Wii U will get full support, I hope.
