Retro Studios working on a new IP is very credible in my opinion. I think it will be something a bit more mature than the typical Nintendo game. I'm not saying Wolfenstein 2 kind of mature...
Got started on the variety kit last night. Very impressed with how clever the designs are. I'm not sure the games will be that interesting to play but certainly the toy-cons are great to build and look fantastic. Awesome job Nintendo
No need to feel bad for the Wii U. It was an okay console with a good amount of great games, bayonetta 2 being one of them. Sales figures don't always tell the whole story.
Bought it yesterday and played for about an hour. Never played the touch version and havent played the pc version for a few years. I've played on my mobile recently though. For those like me who didnt know FM touch, he game is a lot closer to the PC version. The game seems to have evolved a bit in the last few years - which is not necessarily a given with this type of game. What I don't like so much at this point is the interface. Only a few things can be really done with the touch screen given it's smaller than the typical tablets the game was originally designed for. Moving the pointer with the left stick is slow and a bit frustrating for me at this point. Hope I'll get the hang of it quickly. I personally wish the game was a bit simplified and quicker. I like the mobile version for this. I'm not interested in setting specific training and I don't want to be tweaking my tactic all the time. But some people will definitely see this depth as a strength. To finish on a high note, the match engine is great and it's the closest thing to watching a real game of football its ever been (in FM standards). I don't mean graphically but the way the teams play. Hope this helps people who're on the fence with this game...
Nothing of interest for me here. I'll get by with eshop Indies. Worst case I'll try a game I missed out on from last year, like Mario + Rabbids or Splatoon 2. Could be worse...
@JaxonH I agree. 3rd party support is going to take off and I'm sure some big franchises will come to the Switch at the end of a year. It would be a surprise not to see a COD or Assassin Creed game. Whether it will be a port, a remaster or a new game is a different story.
Who would have believed this a year ago? I was very enthusiastic following the Switch reveal and did believe it would succeed, but not to that extent! It is well deserved in my opinion.
Brutally hard games are a bit of a turn-off for me because I don't have that much time to play and I want to enjoy myself. I'll make an exception for Dark Souls Remastered though...
@RickD I'm falling in that categorie too. And when i showed the presentation video to my wife, she didnt even ask me if i was getting it. I've worked hard to get to that point. Nintendo Land is one of my favourite couch co-op game of all time. I hope they bring it back someday.
@RazumikhinPG I'm only b*tching about people who are b*tching. I don't say we shouldn't express a negative opinion when we have one. But I don't get how this article is a problem to anyone. It's been useful for me and a few other people who are interested in Labo. The rest should just move on with their lives...
@WolfyWardark Did the exact same thing. Thanks NL. I can see some people complaining in the comments that it has nothing to do with Labo. Well, it does. Several people will use this to purchase Labo. And for those who are not interested, that's absolutely fine. I'm not interested in Kirby for example. The difference is that I don't b*tch about it in the comments section if there's an article about it.
I'll give this a shot. Dark Souls 3 really crushed me and I gave up maybe a quarter of the way in. I hope the formula works for me this time. Quick pick up and play could make a big difference. Hell, I want to be good at this!
@QwertyQwerty Good to know how it was back then (across the pond ). It'd be really interesting to understand the factors that made certain brands be successfully in certain countries (and vice et versa). I wonder if it's mainly marketing or is it something cultural too...
@QwertyQwerty I grew up in France and I remember the whole country got taken away by storm when the Super Nintendo came out. I lived in a remote place, and not a wealthy place, yet ALL my friends had it within a year or two. Brand loyalty has remained very strong since then I believe (I moved from the country over 10 years ago).
@Savino I don't think you get it. For Nintendo it's about coming up with new tech that can be available to the mass without big entry barriers. The Wii didn't require anything but a TV (of any kind) to play. VR is a different story. I think the only reason they're not interested in that tech at the moment it's because it's only available to enthusiasts. In a few years, I'm sure they'll get on board. VR needs Nintendo!
Breath of the Wild is an easy pick for me. It's the best game I've played in years actually. I absolutely love Mario Odyssey but still feels BOTW is in a different league. It shows how a great year for gaming 2017 was.
@Thierry I think the one feature both Sony and Microsoft will take from Nintendo is the instant start of the system. I have a Xbox One S and it's painfully long to start. I can only assume PS4 is the same.
I've tried a few games on mobile including Mario Run and it's just not doing it for me. Maybe a Mario kart or a Zelda could turn me. Maybe next year...
This feels like the right amount of info I wanted getting into the game. Not interested in amiibo functionalities and stealing. To me it just feels like cheating.
Just ordered it. Couldn't resist. Happy to support Bethesda's effort too. I've only played this game for about 20h when it came out originally. So I think I'm in for a treat!
There will be definitely a Switch 2.0 with more horsepower and higher res screen. 2019/20 would seem right for this. All games running on both versions, like the one x and the pro, except I can see Nintendo doing this 2 or 3 times before moving on to the next console. I predict the switch will have a 8-10 years lifespan.
@BlueKnight07 I think you're spot on. And yes, clearly the marketing on the Wii U seemed overall quite poor, but ultimately I think the concept (even though I personally find it very interesting) and hardware was difficult to sell. It's not like it was a success in Europe or Japan either.
3 reasons to buy this game: 1. It's a great game. Port or no port, a great game is a great game and this one my friends is a great one. 2. Bethesda is a great game publisher and they're supporting the Switch. I want that to continue. 3. The art on the box is just too awesome. I think I'd buy this even if there was no cartridge inside. Lol
So much hate for Reggie. I don't get it. If the Wii U concept was deeply flawed, I don't think he had much say in it. I imagine Japan stirs the ship and NOA do with what they're given. Not saying they haven't done any mistakes, but it seems quite harsh... Can anybody maybe explain me what he did that was so terrible?
A dark souls would be great on the Switch even though it wouldn't be really for me. I've played DS3 on Pc for a few hours. It's the kind of games that I would like to love but is a bit too hardcore for me (Cuphead falls into the same category).
@Proust I think we will know more about Q1 and Q2 before the end of the year, at least in terms of 3rd party announcements. Nintendo may wait until Jan for their next direct. Now that Switch is a success, I personally don't worry at all about possible droughts. I don't expect there will be quite as many Nintendo games next year (and if only one could be as good as odyssey or botw I would sign with both hands right away) but I expect 3rd party support will increase significantly. And all indie devs will want their games on Switch as they do now already.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I don't think anybody needs to look past 2017 to be convinced the Switch is worth every penny. Please don't encourage Nintendo to go down the path of announcing games too early. They are the example to follow.
Personally I've been gaming since the late 80s and even if I'm in my 30ties now I think it's the best first few months I had with any console.
I suspect by reading your comments that you predicted the Switch would fail, that Nintendo would get it wrong once again, and now that it's a massive success, rather than putting your arm up and saying "well done guys", you feel you have to stand by your original thought, hiding behind silly arguments like a Web browser is missing or God knows what. I can totally understand how people expectations can be different but that's just ridiculous.
Or maybe you just like the attention...
@Ralek85 I realise it doesn't look good. It does seem money wasted though if all they do with Star Wars is Battlefront. I mean surely a lot of people would buy Star Wars games. In the Lucas era, the games were hit and miss but at least the universe was being exploited and the games were very different gameplay-wise. Here it looks like a situation where everybody loses (EA included because you could easily imagine they could make a lot more money with this)
I will buy Doom and Skyrim at some point next year when the price drops. I don't really want to pay more than £30 for each of them, as awesome as these games are...
Perfect game for the switch. I have it on xbox and love it, though I don't get to play it so much cos it calls for short gaming sessions and the xbox takes ages to start up, honestly. Getting into the game instantly means it'll be the best version of the game.
@Marios-love-child I agree. I don't get the whole Web browser argument. I'm not interested in using the Switch that way and I doubt many people would. I'm sure it'll come eventually but hopefully Nintendo are concentrating on more important things
As much as I like Mario games in general, that game didn't do it for me. I can see it's well done for what it is, I just reached the conclusion that playing on mobile isn't for me. There are other ways to pass the time and when it comes to gaming, consoles and PC experiences are just way more satisfying.
