I agree with all those that say the game is difficult. Although I'm tempted to agree with TRON, the first level of Core seems to be in between the difficulty of the second and third stage of Beat.
While I would also recommend this game so far, there are faults in the game that make it unfairly difficult. For one, there is no warning sound when you miss a beat. The warning sound was quiet in Beat, but at least it reminded you that you screwed up. With Core, since there is so much happening, you could easily lose without even knowing you screwed up. Controls aren't as intuitive as last time either considering you could get the same enjoyable experience by tapping on the control pad instead of needlessly tapping on the 2 button and the control pad.
Lastly (concerning the difficulty), unlike in Beat when you always knew when a beat would be lost (by going off the left of the screen), you never know when a beat will be gone forever in Core. Some spiral around the core for a few seconds, but seemingly identical beats stop after passing one axis. When assailed with multiple beats that spiral or stop, your stuck in a cluster*#$% in which you will essentially screw up every time until you memorize the beats. Unless you have ridiculously quick hands, failure is around the corner every time.
My last complaint is that the beats still have random notes. Since the beats are actually part of the song this time, it's a huge letdown that they do not make a concrete melody. As it is now, the game has nice background music, but the beats are grating when they don't sound right.
Hmmm, the game actually looks worse now that I've seen the trailer. Although I haven't obviously seen much of it, the gameplay looks drastically less appealing than what I was hoping for. Mainly, I was hoping for something a little more free, and mazes, well, they're kind of the opposite of free. The graphics aren't that impressive either, and I mean that for each platform. The idea is interesting, and I'm still intrigued, but right now, I'm not getting my hopes up.
This better as heck be coming next Monday and better as heck be good. This game has excited me more than practically any other WiiWare game, and if it bombs, well gee, that'll suck. I can't put it any other way. Here's to hoping and anticipating.
Hmm, this doesn't sound all too professional. I understand he is disappointed with his game's sales, but geez, perhaps he should review the quality of his game again before he makes blatant assertions such as the ones in his post. Oh well, his post, his rules.
I was going to let this one go, but now it's bugging me too much. "It's flame-on if there's even a whiff of 3D going on?" Really? I don't know if he's been on WiiWare recently, but I've seen the opposite many times.
You have surprised me, Gamelion. Despite some stages still looking a bit like LostWinds, so much of the rest of the game looks unique and enjoyable that I don't care. Heck, even the LostWinds parts look still enjoyable. Now, as for the lion at the end of the movie, we'll work on that one later.
Hmm, Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game by far, but I'm still hesitant to buy it. I, unlike many of you, didn't really experience the problems on the Gamecube emulation. Still, it might be kind of cool to test the game out with the classic controller.
This was certainly great news today. I've always wanted to see all my games laid out before me and now I can finally do it. Now, will I play them all soon? Probably not, but I still love it.
The new Virtual Console Arcade is also a delightful surprise. I can't wait to see what else we get.
The game's description isn't nearly as exciting as the names developing it. While they certainly give me quite a bit to look forward to, I think I'll have to see some screens before I develop a concrete opinion.
While I think our reviewer was a tad harsh on the game, I do not disagree with him on many of the game's flaws. The game's only challenge comes from actually trying to obtain all the hearts; the rest of the game can be breezed through. The control is also pretty awkward, but I would not say it is to the extent that Drake said it was. And while I actually enjoyed the music, I really disliked the "buddy system." While the total number of power combinations is quite impressive, you only have access to a small fraction of them at any one time since each partner only allows for one variation of each power. Thus, despite the diversity, the variety seem somewhat limited.
Still, this game isn't bad by any standard. The graphics are appealing; the co-op is enjoyable at least for a time; and as a whole, it is still a fine Kirby game. While I don't say this is a must-buy, if you enjoyed Kirby 64 and Kirby's Adventure, by all means grab this game. In my opinion, if you are questioning which conventional Kirby games you should get on the VC, my suggestions are as follows: Kirby 64 > Kirby's Adventure > Kirby's Dream Land 3. As for the game itself and its score, I'd only give it about a point higher than Drake's score.
That was a fantastic interview, and I have gained a great deal more respect for Gamelion. It's not often that you actually hear a company explicitly acknowledging both our comments on this very site and that motion controls aren't for every game. I'm looking forward to this game since it is a platformer, and I wish Gamelion good luck finishing it up. If they can deliver a good product, I will support it.
Looks pretty cool to me. Gameplay looks a bit too precise to calm me down any though, soothing music or not. Then again, most games with any difficulty tend to piss me off...
Well, this is fantastic news, although I was kinda hoping for the return of another system. God, I want a N64 game to finally come out...call me a fan boy, I don't care...
You all make fun of this game now, but just you wait until some nuclear holocaust strikes your town and you can't go outside and play catch; then you all will be yearning to buy this game.
See, you guys, you just need to look at this game from the perspective of those who can't play catch. Just think how many armless people will rejoice when this comes out. That's right; chew on that you ignorant jerks.
With all that idiocy said, I'll have to wait a bit longer and see what exactly this game offers before I judge it.
Well, I really hope Onslaught gets a 6. I enjoy the FPS genre, but I usually dislike paying the price of a standard retail game for these games simply because there is usually a more unique game out there. Seeing this is only $10, I might get it when it comes to the US, if it gets good reviews of course.
It appears WoG's pricepoint is finally getting to it. Still, what a run it had, and most likely, it will stay strong for a while. As I've said before, it's going to be really weird when FFCCMLK falls off the list.
Pity, another two-game week. I somewhat believed Alexsays' hypothesis that Nintendo was releasing fewer games due to the new Wii owners produced by the holiday season and the possibility that they might buy older VC and WiiWare games, but I believed that hypothesis a few weeks ago. As we move into February, it's getting harder to swallow these sparse weeks. I'd like to hear why the average three game weeks are not occurring every week.
Still, as for Mercs, it looks like it may be fun, but considering there are many better games like it that I still have to get, I may pass on this one.
The graphics don't look that impressive, but if the cost of better gameplay and more content is amazing graphics, I will willingly accept it. I'm excited that the game is coming, but one thing that worries me is Hudson's habits with their game's content and length; so far most of their games have been on the sparse side. Hopefully this trait doesn't translate to this game because I wouldn't mind having an FPS WiiWare game.
Gotta respect a guy who knows the meaning of "Gaijin" and still calls himself that.
Well, the game sure looks fun, but two things worry me. One is obviously the tilt control, but it has worked for some games, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. The other is the game might be over 500 points. Now, I have nothing wrong with it being over because it might be worth more, but so far, my impressions wouldn't lead me to pay more than five bucks for this. Eh, still, I'll leave my judgement for later.
Well, this is an exciting update. While I value KnucklesSonic8's elaborate comments and such, I'll probably get Snowboard Riot if IGN and this site gives it favorable reviews (no offense KnucklesSonic8 ). Gah, I really need a racing game; heck, I just want Snowboard Kids now...
Holy geez, now I'm excited for this game. Too bad it won't be out for roughly another year. Gah... and despite all the great features being announced for the game, my mind still is prone to think the game might not do so well. Too many games on WiiWare just haven't lived up not only to the hype but to basic quality standards; I just hope SMB isn't one of them.
Plushie isn't quite that amazing, but music sounds pretty good to me. I'm am steadily growing to anticipate this game as I hear more about it and play the flash game. If it improves on some things (mainly control), this might be a must-buy for me.
Well, I really hope your guys' racing game is of good quality. I've been looking forward to a good racing game on the WiiWare for the longest time and I haven't been satisfied yet.
Considering you "scrubbed [your]self vigorously with bleach for eight hours straight" after playing Family Glide Hockey, Corbie, I'd be worried that we'd have nothing but a polished skeleton after you "started again."
Well, not a great week for you guys this time. It makes me sad that Nintendo has been releasing so few games lately. Gah, hopefully this is strictly a January fad.
This is awesome news for me. I certainly hope Bomberman '94 makes it over to the US which I assume it will. Despite its age, I enjoyed Bomberman '93 (second VC game I owned); I even enjoyed its single-player over the single player in Bomberman DS. Can't really say if I liked it more than the 3-D Bomberman games though, but anyway, I look forward to this game!
I don't know how the hell this game works nor do I really want to figure it out at the moment. Just from watching the video, it doesn't look like the player is given much control at all, but that's just me assuming. Here's to hoping we get a more informative video in the future.
While I'm not pissed (I actually want WB), I'm disappointed with the two-game release. Nintendo probably has some good reason for releasing only two games this week, but until I hear that good reason, I'll dislike these weeks. In my opinion, Nintendo should consistently release three games--whether they be on VC or WiiWare--each week if they have enough games to do so. Sadly, my opinion ain't much compared to Nintendo.
Oh well, when I'm pissed, I always ask myself, "If Nintendo for some odd reason stopped releasing VC and WiiWare games entirely, would I be satisfied with the current catalog?" While I don't want to admit it, I'd probably be fine with all the games we have now. Still, my greedy side just wants more games.
I loved the concept of Meat Boy, but like others have said, the controls weren't the best for me. I hope the conversion will definitely up the gameplay.
Good to see a relatively nice week for you guys. I look forward to the US getting this Wonder Boy game. I need a good MS game to clear the nasty taste of my last one...
I haven't gotten the NES version of Bubble Bobble since I wasn't convinced I would like it entirely, but these new additions look pleasing enough to warrant my purchase...hopefully.
Like others, I'm looking forward to this game but I worried about its overall length. I don't have my hopes up, but even if the game could last over five hours, I'd be content. Well, and if it had good gameplay. Co-op is about the only thing that isn't appealing so far.
If this happened to us, I'd be puking out a kidney or some other internal organ in anger, but since it happened to you guys....well, I can only dry heave.
Hmmm, World of Goo's success is greatly puzzling me. It's a $15 game, it's not by Nintendo, and it's not casual! All logic would say this game should have been off the list weeks ago. Its glowing reviews help its sales, but geez, that much? Gah, my head hurts.
Bah, I dislike these suggestions for new 16-bit renditions of Mario and Zelda. Sure, you can make a Mario/Zelda game for WiiWare, but I'd rather enjoy current-gen graphics than nostalgia. Still, like others before me, I would prefer to see new games from Nintendo's forgotten franchises. Some games (like Balloon Fight or even Ice Climbers) would probably not make it as retail games but most likely would have a great chance as a downloadable game. Whether that will happen, I can only hope.
And personally, MaBoShi being Nintendo's best WiiWare game seems farfetched to me even if its overall rating says so. I guess it's a hit for some, a scratch for others.
Here's to hoping Planet Pachinko gets a good review. What with de Blob, Wario Land: Shake it, and Kirby's Dream Land 3, I'm now on a platformer high and looking for more.
On the other side of the coin (no pun intended), it doesn't behave like a programmed object. It doesn't move in one set pattern; it actually seems to always be out of reach (because it always moves away from your planet); and it goes through all other objects. If you've experienced otherwise, I'd like to hear because although I still think it is a glitch, it seems weird that Nintendo would let something this huge go unnoticed. Then again, there are some sections in the game where the music screws up horribly if you collect enough satillites.
I've neither been able to absorb the weird thing or have it orbit me. Judging from how many times I've attempted, I would go as far to say it's some glitch, but I don't know for sure. Hmmm...
Hmmm, I almost was going to scream bloody murder about the lack of N64 games, but then you explained yourselves. Still, my frustration has no end about that decision. Alas, that's my bias. Although the list is not bad, I'm planning on buying only of few of those games if they ever come out.
@Stuffgamer1 Concerning the Club Nintendo issue, have you checked under "My Account Settings?" On the left sidebar, there is a menu that says "Products Registered," and you can select "see all" underneath it. From there, you can see all your purchases. On mine, I can see SMRPG and my registered products all the way back to 2005 (when I actually started caring about registering them...don't quite understand why I did...).
I apologize if you have already done this. If you have and you can't see everything, well, you have my sympathy.
@Stuffgamer1 Club Nintendo does record all games that you registered even before it launched, so you can see old Gamecube and Gameboy Advance games on there. The only thing is besides the VC and WiiWare, it'll never record a third-party publisher's game since they never come with codes. So, to reply to your comment in another way, Club Nintendo doesn't suck because of that, but here's something that sucks about it.
Okay, the Wii has its fair share of bad qualities: memory, graphics, direction, the list can go on. I'm not going to go into any of them because others have already. What troubles me is the negativity of the article.
Okay, yes, the VC has dwindled considerably and that has caused me great sadness, but still, like the article said, we have received an awesome number of great games this year. They are small in number compared to last year, but alone, they are mighty. No doubt I hope better for 2009, but I'll not keep my hopes up. The VC isn't what we all wanted or expected from Nintendo, but perhaps it was foolish of us to act like that to begin with. We suspected something fishy when we first heard the news, and it ended up happening.
As for WiiWare, I strongly dislike this bashing. While I myself want better from the service, can we really bash it so much in its first year or compare it to other services on other consoles? Yes, it doesn't have HD or the potential for carrying huge file sizes; it sucks, but what can we really do about it?
However, I'd like to argue perhaps XBLA and PSN didn't have exactly a stellar starting year either. If we are to trust IGN, in XBLA's first year, not a single game received a score of 9 or higher. The site also seems to be down momentarily, but if I recall, PSN's initial year was pretty barren of games. If I'm wrong, please tell me, but as of yet, my faith in WiiWare is firm.
Only thing that keeps me entirely devoted to this game is the amount of interaction between the players. While I enjoy screwing with my friends, if it gets to the point where I'm doing as much damage to my friends as I am to my enemies because it is almost impossible not to do so, the game won't be fun. Still, I have hope for this game.
Semnat Studios, if you make a good game, I'll buy it day one and gift it for every person's birthday after.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Planet Pachinko and Jungle Speed
Here's to hoping Planet Pachinko gets a good review. What with de Blob, Wario Land: Shake it, and Kirby's Dream Land 3, I'm now on a platformer high and looking for more.
Re: USA VC Update: Castlevania III
Bummer, I was hoping for SSB. Call it my Earthbound, but I can't help but want it after it was announced for Japan this month.
Re: Review: Art Style: Orbient (WiiWare)
On the other side of the coin (no pun intended), it doesn't behave like a programmed object. It doesn't move in one set pattern; it actually seems to always be out of reach (because it always moves away from your planet); and it goes through all other objects. If you've experienced otherwise, I'd like to hear because although I still think it is a glitch, it seems weird that Nintendo would let something this huge go unnoticed. Then again, there are some sections in the game where the music screws up horribly if you collect enough satillites.
Re: Review: Art Style: Orbient (WiiWare)
I've neither been able to absorb the weird thing or have it orbit me. Judging from how many times I've attempted, I would go as far to say it's some glitch, but I don't know for sure. Hmmm...
Re: Ten Games We'd Like To See On The Virtual Console In 2009
Hmmm, I almost was going to scream bloody murder about the lack of N64 games, but then you explained yourselves. Still, my frustration has no end about that decision. Alas, that's my bias. Although the list is not bad, I'm planning on buying only of few of those games if they ever come out.
Re: Talking Point: Is the Virtual Console On The Slide?
@Stuffgamer1
Concerning the Club Nintendo issue, have you checked under "My Account Settings?" On the left sidebar, there is a menu that says "Products Registered," and you can select "see all" underneath it. From there, you can see all your purchases. On mine, I can see SMRPG and my registered products all the way back to 2005 (when I actually started caring about registering them...don't quite understand why I did...).
I apologize if you have already done this. If you have and you can't see everything, well, you have my sympathy.
Re: EU VC Update: Enduro Racer and Donkey Kong 3
Boy...wow...I'm at a loss for words...
Re: Talking Point: Is the Virtual Console On The Slide?
@Stuffgamer1
Club Nintendo does record all games that you registered even before it launched, so you can see old Gamecube and Gameboy Advance games on there. The only thing is besides the VC and WiiWare, it'll never record a third-party publisher's game since they never come with codes. So, to reply to your comment in another way, Club Nintendo doesn't suck because of that, but here's something that sucks about it.
Re: Talking Point: Is the Virtual Console On The Slide?
Good article though!
Re: Semnat Studios Interview - Eduardo the Samurai Toaster
Only thing that keeps me entirely devoted to this game is the amount of interaction between the players. While I enjoy screwing with my friends, if it gets to the point where I'm doing as much damage to my friends as I am to my enemies because it is almost impossible not to do so, the game won't be fun. Still, I have hope for this game.
Semnat Studios, if you make a good game, I'll buy it day one and gift it for every person's birthday after.
