@lockelocke Too bad those modes made you start at the very beginning. I would've enjoyed them more if they allowed you to change your saved data. God, those small units are a "BITC--um, er, hassle" though.
Spells would be cool, but I'd rather have castle add-ons or head-to-head multiplayer. You would throw your wallet at the screen, but I would sell my kidney if one day "interactive catapult" or "VS." popped up as DLC.
Strangely, this is still my best WiiWare game, beating out SBCG4AP and LostWinds...
Can they please stop with this retro stuff...I'm all for the 2-D gameplay and what not, but retro gameplay, graphics, and everything? No, I'm against this stuff...there's a reason we have current generation technology...
Just my opinion, but I don't like how this trend is catching on...
Well, I got a chuckle when I saw this. Mildly surprising. It gets a good review and it comes out unexpentantly. Oh well, if Gameloft continues with WiiWare, that's good. Now if they could only make an epic game with all this money they're making...
Gah...last time I come to these things late...so many comments...
Anyway, good week, but not for me. After last week, I was left with a pitiable 0 points...guess it's back to searching for pennies for that next 1000 points. I think I'll save them for Ys....
Mwuha...I have expanded the page two more inches. I'm so evil...
Now I understand ya. Don't quite agree with ya, but I can't argue against that. Still, I don't know how you can screw up a McDonald's hamburger considering it's McDonald's....
Uh...I can't say much about the game with just the demo. The graphics and sound are great, but the controls are a bit iffy. Then again, like Mickeymac said, platformers (as well as most games) are better with a controller. The demo level didn't have any bottomless pits either or leaps of faith, so I can't say much about that. I'll wait for the WiiWare review.
@ x.SuperMario.x "I could enter the Olympics, sign up for the men's swim team, and put all my effort into the 100 meter. Does it mean I'd do good? Uhhh no. Putting all your effort into something only helps when... you know... you're good at what you're trying to do."
To hopefully avoid an argument, I'll just say I severely disagree with your statement and your comparison is a false analogy.
ACK! and the others pretty much explained SBCG4AP: Episode one. I liked it too, but then again, I'm a Homestar fan. A bit short, but funny. It is glitchy too, sometimes it even hurt the game (i.e. the Poopsmith didn't move after one point in the game, a hole looked covered but the animation really wasn't supposed to be there). I don't regret my purchase though (second best of all my WiiWare games).
I don't know if I'll get the other episodes. I might just get the best rated...
It does look like something that might've come from Newgrounds (in the good way). It's from the same creators of de Blob, so that's a plus. One more to keep an eye on...by now I think I have around nine eyes...
Since my shmup history before buying this game consisted of playing random shooters on my relatives' SNES (I liked none of them), Star Parodier was my first shmup, and I'm more than pleased. It has great music, great graphics, great replay value...it is just great overall. Although this is my first shmup game, I must admit myself that the game is a tad easy, but I still loved it, possibly enough to warrant another shmup purchase. We'll see.
An awesome game for anyone looking to enter the shmup genre.
Heck, I can't hold my attention on that game long enough to notice! Um...from just the times I've played, I just think it's an image change. Videlectrix puts their heart and soul into the graphics of their games; sadly, it's just the gameplay that suffers.
Hmm, I see My Aquarium coming out instead this Monday. Can't say I'm excited considering I think fish are terrible pets anyway. Still, I have my games from last Monday and I'll be content for quite a while.
Pshh, and for those who say today's releases are nothing but nongames, you know nothing. Snake Boxer 5 has the most intense gameplay I've seen in ages.
@alxtlvra It seems others have answered for me, but since you have been kind enough to answer me intelligently, I shall do the same to you (no sarcasm in that comment--you did have a sufficient argument).
First, the developers of Pong Toss decided to take out the alcohol in their game, not Nintendo.
The second matter will take a whole paragraph. You are right in reasoning that Nintendo USED to be harsh on more mature games (i.e. Mortal Kombat, Devil's World), but since then, I believe Nintendo has let up. I have heard no news that says Nintendo will never re-release the games you mentioned. If you have, please direct me to the information. As for Wii games, Nintendo has been entirely open to mature games (not Adult mind you, but neither has Sony accepted games with that rating). Both Bensei and Cally mentioned games that were pretty mature if I say so myself. For now, I don't think Nintendo is being squeamish.
For your final argument, yes, there has only been one M game in the last two years on the VC, but I don't believe that is a sign of Nintendo's hesitation. After all, there weren't many M games back then, considering the ESRB wasn't even established until 1994. Even then, to my knowledge, Nintendo's consoles weren't home to many M games, if any at all before the N64. As for the Genesis and the like, although there may have been a number of M games, I think it is the game companies who do not want to release their M games. Why would you want to release an M game on a family-friendly console when you have other "nicer" games in your catalogue? Get the more welcoming games out first then maybe the mature ones can come next. Well, that's just my reasoning. I don't think Nintendo has much to do with it.
I'm more than pleased with this list, more specifically with Strong Bad's success. For those who are worried about people buying games because of name brands, I wouldn't worry too much. Strong Bad and Telltale are popular but not household names...well, at least probably not your guys'.
I think we're seeing more shift in the list because games like MPR and Dr. Mario are finally losing their luster. Unlike the VC's top 20 list, I don't think one game will dominate forever. I believe we're going to have quite a lot of movement as the weeks carry on. Hope so at least.
@Saint Nick Yep, it's sad to see only Nintendo-published games on the N64 after two years! I hope this changes ridiculously soon! (Then again, I just kind of want another N64 game...)
@Cally I understand why people are mad; I just don't agree with the way some are letting it out. I am perfectly fine with people complaining, but I'm not okay with people randomly whipping up comments that declare Nintendo is some evil/stupid empire made to hurt us all. Complain and speculate! That's fine, just don't be crazy or vindictive with your comments.
I too am questioning some of Nintendo's choices, but I'm not going to say they are out to teach somebody a lesson because they got out of line. Strangely, the two people who answered me I have no complaints against! Unless my mind decieves me, neither you nor Bass XO made outlandish claims. I just wanted to see if any of the outlandish ones would answer me, but thank you anyway.
@Bahamut Zero The game is in Japanese, but most of the menus are in English, so it is easy to know what's what. The manuel helps with that too. The only problem could be the intro and the difficulty setting. For the first, you'll just have to live without the outlandish story (tutorial is also entirely in Japanese but not needed). For the second, I think it is like all difficulty settings--middle is normal, left is easy, and right is hard.
I was also worried about the Japanese, but it doesn't hurt the game at all!
Guys, please tell me why Nintendo did not allow BC to be on the Virtual Console! Please tell me! I don't want speculation; I don't want rumors; I don't want insults; give me unbiased evidence! Until you guys can give a reason, I'll think all this Nintendo bashing is bull crap. When I have that reason, I'll shut up, but not until then.

@andy836 It's a smart business move to give people only a fraction of the game initially and then make them pay for the rest? Yeah, I guess you're right. I think that's how people operate ransoms too.

As for Star Soldier, I don't even call that a proper game.
And I may not see you complaining about Strong Bad, but go ahead and do so! C'mon, complaining helps others think!
I've given this topic some more thought, and I'd like to say one more thing. You did well, Luc, and you're still doing well.
Throughout the day, I thought how much of my comment was hypocritical. I too am working on a project in which I have little skill compared to others. I've placed blood, tears, and several cuss words in my project, but I love it. I've reached the stage where I'm presenting my project to others and I don't know how I could take criticism either since I've spent so much on it. It'd be hard I guess.
What I'm trying to say is what you did and are doing is admirable. I may not agree with everything you did, but your untiring work should be a model to everyone even if your end project won't be. Keep it up; your determination (though it may not be in the same field) is amazing. Good luck once again.
I find Luc's decision rather weak, but I'll let him run his life without me criticizing it. He has already had enough of that with his game. As for his career plans, I believe he's on a better path now. His artistic ability looks good--I don't know about his story-telling--so I think he will do well. I hope so at least.
Combined with Strong Bad's release, this is the best week ever for me on the Wii Shop Channel. That ain't even an understatement. I have yet to play either game, but I'm truly excited for I'm getting both Strong Bad and Star Parodier.
For those complaining, keep it up but keep it quiet. For one, you guys should've expected these games. For two, at least Nintendo is now being consitent. Still, you have the right to complain. If I had a shooter already, I probably wouldn't have liked today's releases either. I see your pain today, I just don't want to see it that much.
And the best for last...the only reason I'm on here and not on my Wii is my TV has become inoperable...and now I have to wait until the proper services can correct this dilemma. The one week in summer I've been looking forward to and this happens...I know there is some funny irony to this, but right now I'm beating that irony to death...
I guess outside of the US, horribly-mutated pokemon can't hold a candle to button-headed stickmen. Sadly, it seems only drunk wannabes can get close to holding a candle by MPR (you know...I think it is funny that MPR is a public radio station...they both are equally enjoyable...).
Quick, everybody in America, run to your Wiis and see if we were as lucky as the Europeans and got a late update of Splatterhouse 2. Hey, look it was put up on our VC-- wait a second...
@7th lutz You got a point there. Neo Turf Masters has yet to come out for the US and I wouldn't be surprised to see it on Monday. I would agree also that we will see Samurai Shodown II by the end of the month, but I'll keep with my original prediction. I don't think Hudson's two "confirmed" games will come out on Monday. I also believe SSII may come out because of that botched press release. Alas, this is the VC which is only second to the Twilight Zone in its unpredictability. You'll get points though if you're right.
It's great to see that you guys got Samurai Shodown II but still rather disappointing that you guys are still only getting three games every other week. One more game and it would at least be fair.
@NintendoBrad Exactly. I imagine Samurai Shodown II to come out on Monday, so rejoice you Americans that want it. Sadly, I don't see the same for Star Parodier....
Wow, I find this stupid. It was a good idea to have an option to turn it off. Still, if only SPOGS Racing put this in their press release, gamers would love it for its nostalgia instead of its crappiness (yeah, I couldn't find the right word). I can just see it now:
Buy SPOGS Racing! Enjoy the slowdown of your old shooter games. Revel in the N64 graphics. Let the nostalgia drown you when you see that we brought back Mode 7.
Well, just in case, I called Nintendo's customer service to see if this article is true. It was kinda weird...I heard some muffled cuss words and a whip crack a few times, but then they just said:
A number of variables can affect a game’s release date. Therefore, the Wii-kly Update is the only authority for confirmed release dates of WiiWare games.
All stupidity aside, I really hope this article is true as well as this next Monday's "scheduled" releases. I've been looking forward to this game and Star Parodier for awhile now.
It's simple. Just like the CIA, FBI, and FOX, Nintendo of America has to keep everything secret or the Communists will get them. The only reason Japan is safe is because they have Godzilla whereas Americans only have this monster that goes by the wimpy name, "Cloverfield." I'm sorry, but if I were a Communist, I too would go after the country that has a monster who sounds like a pony.
And if this isn't a sign that I need sleep, I don't know what is.
@Surgical Precision I don't mean to make you feel any less disappointed about today's releases (by all means, stay disappointed if you are--it was unexpected), but I don't think today's releases were that random. On July 21, VCR posted an article about both SMS Sonic and Splatterhouse 2 being rated by the ESRB. So technically, seeing them together isn't too random. As for WWG, it came out in Europe so it is only logical to assume it'd come out soon for the US.
And now I'm questioning why I'm trying to defend today's releases.

You'll get points though if you're right.
Re: EU VC Update - Samurai Shodown II
It's great to see that you guys got Samurai Shodown II but still rather disappointing that you guys are still only getting three games every other week. One more game and it would at least be fair.
@NintendoBrad
Exactly. I imagine Samurai Shodown II to come out on Monday, so rejoice you Americans that want it. Sadly, I don't see the same for Star Parodier....
Re: Publishers Remain Tight-Lipped On Black Monday Debacle
I'm still waiting to hear who did the actual wrong here.
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (6th August)
I thought I could predict some things in the world. I thought I could depend on humanity a bit. And now that's all out the window. Gah...
I think I puked up my stomach...then again, it could just be Pong Toss...looks the same.
Re: Mega Man 9 - Flicker Included!
Sometimes the past should stay where it is.
Re: Strong Bad's Homestar Ruiner Gets Release Date!
Re: Nintendo Responds To US Release Date Queries
It's simple. Just like the CIA, FBI, and FOX, Nintendo of America has to keep everything secret or the Communists will get them. The only reason Japan is safe is because they have Godzilla whereas Americans only have this monster that goes by the wimpy name, "Cloverfield." I'm sorry, but if I were a Communist, I too would go after the country that has a monster who sounds like a pony.
And if this isn't a sign that I need sleep, I don't know what is.
Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2
@Surgical Precision
I don't mean to make you feel any less disappointed about today's releases (by all means, stay disappointed if you are--it was unexpected), but I don't think today's releases were that random.
