Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2

Virus

@SuperSonic1990
I don't think these surprise releases are secret strategies for Nintendo to get money. Yes, you're right that many people bought points ahead of time to get the three "confirmed" games, but most of those people will still just wait for those games and not buy any more points until they get those games. Nintendo would've probably gotten more money if they released those three games. Mega Man, c'mon, the world would go crazy. Samurai Shodown II? Many people would buy it just because it looks almost like Soul Calibur. Ys? Hey, it's two games in one. No, personally, I don't think this was a plan by Nintendo. If they're trying to get more money, this isn't how they would do it.

I must note though, I do see your point. I wouldn't mind a monthly release schedule either.

@FroguinZX
I saw Strongbad on the Nintendo Channel too; I wonder what that is implying if anything...

Well, I'm passing this one up. I heard it isn't as good as Link's Crossbow Training and that is what I expect for these shooter games.

Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2

Virus

I laughed out loud today when I saw the VC releases. I found it so god-awful ironic that I couldn't help it. Not a single "confirmed" release made it! Oh the hilarity!

I must say I'm a little disappointed but I'm not going to blame this on anyone and definitely not on Nintendo. For this week, I'll suck it up because we still got two games that a great deal of people will enjoy. There's not much we can do anyway.

I think the three other games will find their way onto the VC this month eventually. Still, I think people should walk away from this with two lessons learned: the VC is as random as life even with "confirmed" releases and August is going to be one heck of month in terms of surprises.

EDIT: We got our first "M" game too. Cheers for violence on the Wii.

Re: Mega Man Finally Out On Monday In USA

Virus

@Dazza
Thanks for the link. At least I won't be confused about that game's absence. And I can't help but be a cynic. I'm distrusting three press releases because it just seems crazy! Have we even received three games on one week this year? God, I'm setting myself up for some major head exploding on Monday.

Re: Mega Man Finally Out On Monday In USA

Virus

I really don't see this happening for some reason...three VC games, all of them acclaimed? Please, let me apologize for being skeptical, but this seems too good to be true. And considering Plattchen (or however you spell it) is supposed to come out on Monday also, that's means we'll get five games in one week. That seems absurd!

My guess is we'll get Ys, Mega Man, and Wild West Guns, but darn, I hope I'm entirely wrong!

Re: Ys Book I & II Released in US Next Week

Virus

@el cabarto
Heh, what a find you got there. I don't think it will come to be though. That, or we won't get one of the other games planned for Monday. And you may be right some will complain if all three come out, but heck, I'll have a heart attack.

@Mickeymac
Official Nintendo Magazine? Isn't that Nintendo Power? Or do you mean you wonder if there is a Nintendo magazine that gives out demos?

Heh, all school is evil. Be it the brats of elementary school or the druggies of college (or even high school in some places), no one escapes untraumatized.

@Mr. Cheez
I also wondered why the reviewers complained about the animation in the review so I spent some time watching the videos we have on the internet. Although my eyes weren't torn from my sockets when I started realizing it, I can almost see what they are talking about. Then again, I wouldn't care about the animations as long as it doesn't hurt the gameplay. I'm one of those guys that would accept N64 graphics on a WiiWare game. It has nothing to do with my love of the N64...of course not...

Re: Eternity's Child Now Available for Steam

Virus

Hmm, I was afraid this was going to happen. I believed EC was going to be at least an okay game, but I only for a moment thought it would do this poorly (at least on that site). It takes a truly crappy game to get a 1, so I think that score may have been a bit harsh. Still, there are some choices in the gameplay that seem worrisome to me. One thing is also for certain, all bugs better be fixed for the WiiWare version. It'd be a disservice to such a potentially-good game to not fix them.

In other news, when I checked the comment board on that one site, all that cussing brought memories of middle school. Talk about some unintelligent and rude people.

Boy, it was funny at first, then it just kinda lost its luster. I have to hand it to him though, all he did was talk to a camera for about three minutes and randomly spew out "crap" and "good," and now he's being watched across the internet.

GAH!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY?!?!?!?!? My hopes of saving even a little money have been obliterated! Perhaps I can stave off Ys for another week until I can get Star Parodier and SBCG4AP...and perhaps I can walk on water after that...gah...there goes my wallet...

Re: Euro Update: Wild West Guns and Defend Your Castle

@x.SuperMario.x
I think Americans can complain a bit. Of the games we have that our Europeans friends don't, most of them aren't very good. Besides Gyrostarr, we've been "lucky" enough to have MLE, Pong Toss, Family Table Tennis, and Protomediocrity. That Blackjack game is okay, but nothing amazing. Still, with how August is shaping up, I don't think we can complain for long...or at least I hope so!

In other news, I hope WWG is good!

Re: Tetris Party To Support The Balance Board

Virus

@BuzzDee
Seeing that Hudson is making this game, I'm pretty sure they'll nail the Balance Board integration if they decide to include it. My only complaint is I don't want to shell out another eighty bucks to buy Wii Fit to enjoy all of Tetris Party. I've tried the Board and it's fun, but I just don't have that much extra money on me yet. That's why I'm hoping for alternative control schemes!

Besides, if the Board proves I can look like a weirdo even while playing Tetris, what will sustain my illusion that I'm slightly cool?

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (30th July)

Virus

I bet all of these games find moderate success on WiiWare. Hudson is probably not happy with SSR's sales, but I bet Two Tribes and the other smaller companies are celebrating the profits they are making. There's a reason many of them mention in their interviews how they are thinking of making more games for WiiWare.

Re: Tetris Party To Support The Balance Board

Virus

The amazing amount of game modes has caught my attention again. The Wii Balance Board integration has not. I have held out on buying Wii Fit and I don't think I'll get it just for this game. I hope they have alternative control methods.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (30th July)

Virus

I'm not surprised Pong Toss got up there, but I don't think it'll last too long up top. I wonder how the list will look a couple of months from now. Will it end up like the VC list with the majority of the games being good? Perhaps. Will it be dominated by Nintendo titles? This time I actually doubt it. The top two games may be Nintendo games, but Magnetica Twist is 15th place now. We'll just have to see how Nintendo's next game fares.

Re: USA VC Update: Chase HQ and Art of Fighting 2

Virus

I'd like to see Nintendo hire more companies as first party developers to revitalise old, "forgotten" games. Nintendo has an expansive back catalogue of games that are potential franchises. Kid Icarus is supposedly in development, but what if we saw updates of such games like Mach Rider, Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, and StarTropics? Who would need third-party developers if Nintendo breathed life into all these games (note: exaggeration was used to make a point)?

Edit: And the Runner rides again. I was just giving the name for the sequel...And yeah, my wishes probably won't happen, but we can't forget Nintendo has "lent" its characters before. Good ol' Rare...

Re: The Legend of the Mystical Ninja

Virus

Geez, how is this game unplayable?

Anyway, I picked this up on the VC over a year ago. I had played both N64 Goemans but sadly had missed out on this one when it had come out, so I was hoping I could enjoy some early Goeman greatness. I wasn't too pleased. The platforming sections (side-scrollers) were excellent, but once a town came, it began a grind match to gather money, health, armor, and lives. Half of the time all that health and lives I bought would just go to waste because the rabid villagers would cut me down before I could make it to the side-scrolling stage. I was frustrated at times to say the least.

Still, this game is nowhere near unplayable. It has a collision detection problem here and there but everything else is pretty darn smooth. As for the graphics and music, both are pretty good as well. The main killer of this game is half the gameplay is fun, the other half isn't. It was the same for co-op for me.

Don't get this game if you fondly remember the N64 versions. This game is more for the people who like beat-em-ups.

Seeing as people have rated this such things as "You must be kidding me/10," I'll give it "It's only kidding some of us slightly/10."

@Objection_Blaster
Although I would sooner guess the day I die than WiiWare release dates, I'm going to be extraordinary and almost say your first two guesses could be reversed. I don't see SBCG4AP getting the okay-go for another week and PLATTCHEN was scheduled for next week (if we can believe that). I agree with ya on Helix, but beyond that, I'm not guessing anything. I'll be sure to send you any points I received though since I copied off ya.

I have a feeling many people are going to have the same sentiments (probably not at the same time). If there is one thing about us (the owners of Wiis), we won't let something wrong go too long without being butchered by our complaints.

Re: Penny Arcade Adventures Too Big For WiiWare

Virus

And this is what scares me, not that we're not receiving this game but that developers are turned off from developing a game for WiiWare because of size limitations. We're going to miss out on some great games if this isn't addressed eventually.

WARNING FOR THOSE WHO HATE COMPLAINERS! SKIP FIRST PARAGRAPH

Well, I have some steam to let out after the WiiWare release. First, I expected to get nothing I would like this week and I didn't. Both games scored average or worse on this website and I don't expect much better from other sites. I'm not going to buy them. Both games suck in my opinion. I hate them terribly just by looking at them. May they burn eternally.

Hoo boy, I feel a lot better now. Well, now for my better half. I'm glad we got two games again, always a good sign. I'm not even bothered by these games as much as I am about the WiiWare release. August looks to be stellar anyway, so I'll hold onto my Wii points for a brighter day. We also finally got the first of many Turbografx games to come!

Edit: To keep up my little hobby, last year's games at this time were Dynamite Headdy, Star Soldier, and Drop off. I haven't played any of these games so I wouldn't know if any of them are better than this year's offerings, so I'll just leave it at that.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Pong Toss

I shall forever hate this game no matter what score it gets. I was really hoping for SBCG4AP, but I got stabbed with this excuse of a game. I can't even measure my loathing. I'd love to put a slur of unintelligible censored cuss words, but for now, I'll occupy myself with hurling ping pong balls at whoever asks why I'm mad.

Re: Ghostfire Games Developer Video - Helix

That calibration idea is utter genius. These developer videos are just as brilliant and if all the other smaller companies will take note of anything, they'll know to make these kind of videos and send them everywhere to promote their product. I'm actually interested in this game now. I still have some worries and I'll definitely wait for some reviews, but I'm keeping both eyes on this one.

Re: Defend Your Castle

I'm lazy at the moment and not reading all the comments above, so I apologize if someone has already said this:

If DYC lacks one thing, it's downloadable content. Be it new enemies, more spells, or other modes, I would've gladly paid for extra stuff on this game. Let's hope a sequel comes with DLC as well as a bunch more improvements.

Re: Abstraction Games Interview - Potpourrii

That's pure hilarity right there.

I'm not excited about this game, but I hope it sells well enough to make these guys full-time developers. The "part-time" thing kind of makes a game less appealing to me.

Re: Beyond Oasis

Virus

@Mickeymac

Why thank you, I hope it mildly helps someone (probably won't, oh well). You're right though about how I shouldn't compare games to A Link to the Past since we can't expect all games to be that stellar (well, we wish we could). Still, I guess my point in mentioning it was this game is not A Link to the Past. People may buy it thinking it's similar to that game, but it ain't. I would rather people buy it for what it is instead of it being a Zelda-like adventure (although I strangely put that in my comment, huh... ). We have Neotopia for people who want Zelda rip-offs anyway. Thanks for catching my mistake though!

Re: Jumpman

Boy, this is a case of don't judge a book by its title. This looks only faintly similar to Donkey Kong.

@x.SuperMario.x
"Why do some people think they know Nintendo better than Nintendo knows Nintendo?" Why do you, bud? I'm not going to claim I know Nintendo ('cause God knows how many times I've been the fool), but they don't always know how to get our money. Look at the N64 and Gamecube for examples. You may be right about Nintendo's marketing for SMRPG, but then again, that makes it seem like Nintendo is focusing on the hardcore gamers for once. Doesn't that seem a bit out of place?

But anyways, I just wanted to thank GameSearcher for the video links. I think August is looking even more up for me. Hopefully that holds true!

Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - August 2008

Hmm, well I hope you're right WarioFan63. The Nintendo 64 was my favorite console and it's saddening me that it hasn't been getting too many games lately. I hope the next N64 game isn't Majora's Mask though. It's my favorite Zelda game, but I've already played the heck out of it on the N64 and Gamecube, so I'm not really wanting it a third time especially when I can still play it now.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing some Turbografx games again. It would be a dream though if we got both Neo Geo and Turbografx games this Monday!

@DEMON212
Way to be worldly.

And to the reason I was going to post: after this IK+ release, I did some research on the ol' C64. I can't say I'm wowed by its ability, so I'm hoping this console makes its way onto the American VC. I'd like to clarify or dispel my assumptions about a console I missed out on.

Re: Reggie Says Storage Issue Isn't Only For Geeks And Otaku!

Virus

@x.SuperMario.x
First, you're way better at your math than I am. I totally forgot a controller came with the console. Boy, I feel dumb. I'm going to go with your numbers just so I don't screw up anymore (though I might just find some way to do it).

Now to my point. Of the accessories you listed, the Mario Kart wheels and Wii Zapper are totally not needed; many even think they hinder gaming. Although the Balance Board is becoming increasingly used, it's not needed and even then, it is a game mind you. As for the SD card, that is pretty essential, but I found a 2GB for twenty bucks; I don't know what you're getting for 40.

So if I modify your numbers by taking out the Wii wheels, zapper, board, and more expensive SD card for the Wii and the Blu-Ray remote for the PS3, the Wii costs $470 and the PS3 costs $600. Even if I throw in the Balance Board, that's $550. That may change with Wii Motion Plus, but for now, I consider the Wii cheaper "and this is from my own personal experience."

And to stay on topic for Mickeymac, I sure hope the Wii gets an update to play channels straight from the SD card considering I bought an SD card solely to store Wii Channels.

Re: Reggie Says Storage Issue Isn't Only For Geeks And Otaku!

Virus

@x.SuperMario.x
You forget many of these accessories aren't needed or they come with a game. I do get your point that the Wii is expensive but to get the bare bones (4 entire controllers), it's almost 500 bucks. PS3 with all its controllers is about 560 bucks.

You're absolutely right that people shouldn't think the Wii is always the cheapest, but initially, the Wii is. You don't have to buy all the accessories to get the full Wii experience and many gamers don't. We can't forget you can get a free game with a Wiimote too.

Re: EU VC Update - International Karate +

@dark moogle
I wouldn't get LostWinds if you need something to pass the week. It won't last you that long!

Well, seems like a slightly better week for you guys at least in quantity. You guys still need one more game for it to be fair. I don't know about the quality of the games, but for those happy for IK+, kudos to y'alls.

I wonder if Neo Turf Masters will come out for the US on Monday. For some reason I have a bad feeling we may not see any Hudson games.

Re: Reggie Says Storage Issue Isn't Only For Geeks And Otaku!

Virus

I hope this thing gets addressed soon! That'd be awesome. I also hope Nintendo adds another "sheet" of empty channels to the Wii Menu or that's gonna be the problem immediately afterwards. Things will go from one storage issue to another. Oh well, let's just get this one fixed.

Re: Big Kahuna Party

Boom Blox came to mind for me too. Good game, especially if you like creating stages yourself. I wouldn't say this Kahuna game will have any of Blox's greatness though, at least not yet.
