@Stuffgamer1 To bring up an argument that has been mentioned before, by releasing all the VC games at once, yes, the VC will live on. Popular games will continue to sell well. It's the bad and lesser-known games that won't at all. This seems like a good thing to us, but to the game developers this is horrid. One of the reasons crappy releases do so well is because they got their own week in the spotlight. By releasing all the games at once, that removes that spotlight.
While I do agree Nintendo might do well releasing more classics, this may not be true. We may consider Nintendo's VC decisions stupid, but judging from their success, I think there is a method to their madness.
And finally, I agree with you entirely about the need for better VC publicity. Even I can't understand why Nintendo doesn't have better publicity.
Oh boy, here we go again, but first, my reaction: Meh, I shall wait for other iterations of Metal Slug.
This week I'll hammer in two points. One, don't blame this on the "casuals." Nintendo isn't wholly catering to the casual audience. If anything, they wouldn't even bother releasing games like Metal Slug 2 or Space Invaders Get Even if they only wanted to focus on the casuals. Nintendo simply picked three games to release and picked them by means we don't understand.
Two, while some of you may hate WiiWare, others love it. While you guys express your concerns that Nintendo is only giving you one VC game a week now, those WiiWare fans were probably doing the same thing when only one WiiWare game was released a week. Do you feel pity for them? If you do, good, you're not hypocritical. I guess my point is someone is going to be disappointed when there are usually only three releases a week. For now, there seems like nothing we can do.
As always, I shall end by saying I understand your guys' anger, but I disagree with your methods of releasing that anger.
Control looks hideous in the trailer, but it might fly. I wish BPlus the best of luck, but from my initial views, this doesn't look like their lucky hit.
Great to hear about this game again. While I have heard it may not garner the best reviews, I hope the absolute best for this game since it seems it was completed with the greatest amount of devotion one could give to it. I may not buy it myself, but if it gets a few respectable reviews, five dollars would be no great pain to my wallet.
This news seemed like common knowledge to me, but I guess it wasn't...anyway, while this news is rather saddening, I'm not too bummed. WiiWare may not have all the games I could want, but it surely isn't lacking that much. It has some pretty cool-looking games on the horizon, so at the moment I ain't too worried.
Not quite. Miis are unlocked by playing each stage in offline (and you cannot pick the "random" stage). Once you do that, you should get a message, and then you can configure your Mii in the user information, like gameking23 mentioned.
Hmm, I have a question: last year, when we got three VC games each week, were those of you who are mad now frustrated back then? Many of you are probably answering you wish we got three VC games a week, and I understand that; I just want to point out once again we still usually get a total of three games each week. Sometimes we only get one VC game and we just have to deal with it. It sucks, but oh well, we're still getting three games.
As for me, in the absence of games that appealed to me this week, I finally bought SMRPG so I'll be set for awhile.
And finally, c'mon people, there's absolutely no need to use cuss words. It makes it look like your keyboard is ****ed up--ahem--I mean messed up.
Mega Man: one of the many games I missed out on when it originally came out because of parents who thought video games made your brain rot. Not even my cousins had it for their NESs. So besides Mega Man 64, Mega Man 2 is my first Mega Man game, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Like everyone before me, I thought the music and graphics were awesome, the gameplay was entertaining, and the control was fantastic (although it strangely took time to get used to). For those who worry about the difficulty setting, it isn't actually too bad (at least on normal mode) since you have unlimited continues and well-placed checkpoints.
This is certainly a good game to get. It doesn't change my views toward Mega Man 9, but I may consider purchasing Mega Man 3 at some point.
I'd totally like to see a new entry of Bonk on WiiWare. It's a fairly simple game that would do wonderfully if it was just updated with better graphics and sound (and perhaps one gameplay enhancement or two). Now I'm pumped for more releases...
Incredible site, guys. I have not found a single site as detailed and reliable as this one when it concerns the Virtual Console, and it'll take a perfect site to upstage this one. Congrats, guys, you deserve all the praise and then some.
Not much for me this week. I may have bought Space Invaders: Get Even if it had come out, but I'll pass on this week's releases. Although I enjoyed the first episode of Strong Bad, I like games with replay value and Strong Bad just doesn't deliver enough of that. I would understand if it was longer, but it ain't, so it's just one purchase for me.
Well, at least those people who didn't like the one-release deals are somewhat happy. Personally, I'm surprised we got four games this week. I do wonder which number of games brings in the larger profit...perhaps Nintendo is releasing several games because they know they aren't too popular?
Once again, I ask you to consider the situation through Nintendo's eyes. Yes, Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam has not received good reviews, but can Nintendo not allow that game to come out? No, YYCJ's developers made that game so it had to come out at one point. The only thing to do to soften the fall of YYCJ's release on WiiWare was to release games beside it, which Nintendo did.
It also puzzles me that you contradict yourself. You would rather have PSIV than YYCJ and BC, but you admit you wouldn't buy PSIV on VC anyway. Why would others buy it then? Those who probably like it have already bought the collection, right?
As for me "facing it," while YYCJ has already been deemed shovelware, I'm sure many people would enjoy it. Look at Pong Toss. That game is an example of a shunned game loved by many. As for BC, while it is available on other systems, people will buy it like they will buy PSIV: They want the game on their Wii system. I realize this week's releases may not have been to your liking, but the majority was not shunned.
When we get two releases, I'll argue with you that we have been shunned. Seeing Monday's releases forcast one VC release, I don't think it will be this week.
Ah...so much bickering...can't you all see? We are all casual; we are all hardcore; we are all gamers.
Anyway, the screenshots and descriptions were a bit of a letdown for me. I was kind of hoping for a platformer...like that totally hardcore game, Super Mario Galaxy.
To begin, I understand you want more than one VC game a week and nothing I say will change that, but I cannot see why our releases should be considered crappy while Europe's should be considered awesome. First, yes, Mega Man 3 was already released on a collection, but many people still wanted it (a fact proven by the game's appearance on the "most popular" list). Second, while one WiiWare release was crappy, the other, Brain Challenge, received generally positive reviews. That means we got two good releases.
Europe also got two good releases, and just like us, one of them was already available on a collection.
We both received two good releases, so our weeks should be considered equally good. I know you have your opinion--and I respect it--but please consider this situation. It seems we do not disagree that there is no problem with Nintendo releasing three games a week (due to financial decisions). However, you say two of those games should be VC games. That means there is only one WiiWare game. Now, I'm sure there are people who like WiiWare as much as you like the VC, so won't those people be mad with only one game a week? I know it would be great if we could have four games a week, but alas, I don't think that is fair to ask for.
I understand your anger, but once again, I ask you to consider the alternative. I think the best decision Nintendo could make to make everyone happy would be to alternate the number of WiiWare/VC releases each week (in other words, two WW and one VC this week and one WW and two VC next week), but who knows if that will ever happen.
Strangely, I get less of a feeling this game is like Pong Toss and more of a feeling it is like that one Target Landing minigame on Super Monkey Ball...
Heh, I find this so strange. America gets a total of three releases but complains about getting only one VC game. Europe gets two releases for the VC, and I don't hear a single complaint about the lack of releases. Heck, I would be whining about Nintendo's failure to deliver at least three games total this week if this happened to the States. Hmmm...perhaps this should be a lesson to Americans...nah....
Heh, I can't wait for a video game developer to come out and say they created their crappy game so we can appreciate better games more. Alas, JV Games and BPlus are too modest to admit how devoted they are to the common good of video games.
Dam...I knew I should've bought Orbient by now...despite my one purchase probably amounting to zilch.
It seems WiiWare is taking the route of the VC: not many games are re-entering the charts (at least for America). So much for the dynamic charts I was hoping for.
Dam, this is the most extreme bag toss I've ever seen. "Cut Throat" mode? What the heck happens? The loser gets bagged to death? The "bags" option also intrigues me. I imagine it just determines how many bags each person tosses, but think how great it would be if you could choose the type of bags you threw. Oh, how the tea bag jokes would run wild...
Since some people are tirelessly voicing their opinions against these one-game weeks, so shall I. Like theDude, I urge people to also consider the WiiWare releases when counting up all the games that came out this week. I know people want more than one VC game a week, but I don't think asking for four games is fair or realistic. Sure, we did get a few four-game weeks a month ago, but we were extremely lucky those times. Like I said last week, I think Nintendo limits those large weeks because they do not turn out a maximized profit.
@Badknux- Comment #91 I don't usually call people out on this, but I believe you should be wary of your own words. When you responded to theDude, you said "this is a forum where people post their opinions." Didn't theDude do that with his comment? He was a bit forceful, but it was just his opinion, correct? I do not mean to make you mad but please, do unto thy fellow poster as thy would do unto thyself.
It seems Wednesdays are becoming too early to monitor the sales of new games. I don't imply we should move these updates to another day, but I think we need to wait a few more days until we worry about ACR. Hopefully it won't come to worrying...
@Manicfatty I do not mean to be a butthead, but I don't quite agree with your comment. While SH has garnered mostly lackluster reviews, you cannot simply call it crap when there are people who enjoy it. Also, I can accept that Nintendo might have total control over which games are released out of the rated games, but you have presented a paradox. If Nintendo has one-game releases, you want it to be a stellar game (understandable). Then you imply Nintendo should just shrug off the "crap" games of other companies to release these great games. Your reasoning for this is Nintendo has already done this so there is no problem with it continuing, but this angers the game companies. So who should Nintendo satisfy: the companies or the gamers?
I realize you possibly meant something else with your comment, but my response is derived from what I understood.
@Bass X0 I did mean four games total. If you have two games on both the VC and WiiWare each week, I don't see those four raking in a maximum profit. I know one-game releases are a bummer, but like Betagam7 alluded to, we did receive two games in addition to Space Harrier. Sure, they aren't VC games, and that can be disappointing, but it is still three games. (Also, sorry for not being clear enough!) Still, I do understand how a three-game week transfer to a one-game week may also be disappointing.
And you weren't asking for Nintendo to not release Space Harrier. Others were or at least implying it by questioning why Nintendo had to release these "crappy games." Yes, they also wanted SH to come with another game, but they said that in addition to the other desire.
Hoo boy, my heart burns...before I let out all the acid, I'll just say this is my reasoning, so while I think I'm correct, I know there is a good chance I'm not.
First, while these one-game releases are disappointing, I must point out that we are still getting three games per week. At least throughout 2007, three-game releases were the norm. We have just returned to that norm and the only difference is those releases are spread out between two platforms: the VC and WiiWare. Four releases may be cool, but from a business viewpoint, it wouldn't be the best pathway towards maximizing profit.
Second, why is everyone giving Nintendo so much credit? Nintendo cannot just release any game it wants. The companies that sign on to have their games on the VC choose the games they want to release. Therefore, Sega decided to put Space Harrier out. Nintendo probably just decided which week to put it up. If Nintendo refused to place it on the VC, imagine how Sega might have reacted.
Three, while I'll make no judgement to whether this game is good or not, I'll say certain people will enjoy it. This is why I find it troubling that people are bashing Nintendo for not releasing games they want. Someone is always going to be disappointed--and sometimes it is the majority that is disappointed--but that doesn't mean the game shouldn't be released. Look at lockelocke; to him, this game is a must-have. Will you accuse him of being wrong?
Hmmm, I think downloadable games have been the best thing since fermented yeast, but sadly I don't see me getting this DSi just for DSiWare. Seeing as I spend enough on games already, I'll just wait for the next-gen handheld along with some of the others here. Still, it kind of bums me to think I probably won't get to relate to the new site when it comes out.
Well, I'll have to say the list is unique to say the least. Totally not what I expected, but hey, it's great to see OoT not on a list for once. But strangely Neutopia makes the top ten....
After a few more weeks with it, I must comment about the online again. It truly is disappointing. While it is a heck of a lot of fun when you get a game or two working, it disconnects way too frequently and sometimes at the worst of times. For instance, after playing "Bomb Dodge" (or whatever it is called) for close to three minutes while waiting for a game, I was disconnected. In another instance I won the rounds and was prepared to save my points and head off when the game disconnected on the results screen before the awards ceremony. I lost all my recently-acquired points. While these occurances are frustrating enough, it became worse when I lost 1000 Bomber points just because the internet disconnected three times in a row. My internet connection is not poor, so this penalty angered me severely.
Ultimately, my message to those who have not yet bought the game but are thinking about it is that you have been warned about the WiFi. It is nowhere near perfect.
Finally, America is unleashing its ploy to destroy the brains of the Europeans. Americans will become the most intelligent beings on Earth! I must admit, I was a bit confused when the government allowed JV Games to test the weapon on us first, but seeing that the abomination is perfected (Version 2.0/with beer) and being fired at Europe, I am confused no longer.
Hmmm, no doubt we'll hear more about this one-game release from others--all of which I can't see being that positive--but as long as we have a total of three released games every week, I'm fine. As for those who will attack Nintendo for not releasing a Halloween-type game, I must remind you Nintendo has rarely released games because of some nearby holiday. Yeah we got Super Mario Bros for Christmas one year and Super Mario RPG for Labor Day, but I have a feeling they would've come out around those times regardless.
I'm interested to see how this game controls. Its concept isn't to dazzling to me, but if the controls are well-executed, that will go quite a ways in convincing me this might be a good game.

Re: New DSiWare Details Revealed
Hmmm, I think downloadable games have been the best thing since fermented yeast, but sadly I don't see me getting this DSi just for DSiWare. Seeing as I spend enough on games already, I'll just wait for the next-gen handheld along with some of the others here. Still, it kind of bums me to think I probably won't get to relate to the new site when it comes out.
Re: Corbie's Top 20 Virtual Console Releases - Part 2
Well, there goes my theory that video games are good for people...
Re: Slot Car Racing Coming To Japanese WiiWare
Looks more promising than their other games...
Re: Corbie's Top 20 Virtual Console Releases - Part 2
Well, I'll have to say the list is unique to say the least. Totally not what I expected, but hey, it's great to see OoT not on a list for once. But strangely Neutopia makes the top ten....
Re: EU VC Releases - NES Halloween Trio
Well, this is sure a kick to my face. I should've held back on my holiday claims until the holiday passed.
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (29th Oct)
Eh, it's getting hard to concentrate on these charts now with all these other games out. When all the launch titles are gone, that'll be a crazy week.
Re: Review: Bomberman Blast (WiiWare)
Re: Okiraku Putter Golf Coming To Japanese WiiWare
It'll take a lot to make me buy a golf game on WiiWare...and this game doesn't look "a lot."
Re: Pong Toss Coming To Europe With Added Beer!
You're next Japan. You've been warned.
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Strong Bad Episode 3 and Art Style: Rotohex
Well, nothing for me this week, but it's a pretty good week regardless.
Re: USA VC Release - Earthworm Jim
Hmmm, no doubt we'll hear more about this one-game release from others--all of which I can't see being that positive--but as long as we have a total of three released games every week, I'm fine. As for those who will attack Nintendo for not releasing a Halloween-type game, I must remind you Nintendo has rarely released games because of some nearby holiday. Yeah we got Super Mario Bros for Christmas one year and Super Mario RPG for Labor Day, but I have a feeling they would've come out around those times regardless.
Re: MadStone Savant Challenge Contest
Heh, it'll be interesting to see how long it takes for twenty people to pass this mode.
Re: JoJu Games Interview: Mart Racer
I'm interested to see how this game controls. Its concept isn't to dazzling to me, but if the controls are well-executed, that will go quite a ways in convincing me this might be a good game.
Re: Brand New Sorcery Blade Game Play Video
Those sure are some amazing N64 graphics then...I haven't seen such detail since the Gamecube!
