Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (17th Sept)

Virus

The Final Fantasy game seems to be dropping. Perhaps this is a sign its high price point is reducing its appeal more quickly. Good? Bad? I dunno.

I'm kind of glad Potpurrii didn't make the list. Hopefully this will show that most poorly-received games won't do that well (I would say "all," but then there's Pong Toss...).

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Potpourrii and Strong Bad Episode 2

Virus

@thewiirocks
My God...just when I thought I got away from it for good, someone haunts me again with American history....

Awesome week! I won't get either of the releases but I'm delighted to be able to say "either." I hope this trend keeps up. I also hope Bomberman Blast comes out next week instead of another certain game...

Re: Gameloft's Brain Challenge Comes To WiiWare

Virus

Can't say I'm looking forward to seeing this kind of Gameloft game on the Wii...

C'mon Gameloft! What the heck are you doing with all this money from WiiWare? I swear, you can't be wasting it all on these ports! Gah, it is just my opinion, but if a company makes a certain amount of profit, I think they should set their minds to creating something truly amazing. Gameloft has made pretty good games; I'd just like to see this regular go from pretty good to really good.

Re: USA VC Release: Mega Man 2

Virus

@deadbattery
I'd be with you saying this is a "fail" week because there is only one release, but you must realize that combined with the WiiWare releases, we got three games, our weekly maximum usually. I know one VC game is a bummer, but let's look at it this way: It seems there is a unanimous cry that Mega Man 2 is awesome and one release means the VC will have a longer life.

Anyhoo, I'm very excited about this release but bummed all the same. Don't quite have the money to get it and all the games I want to get before it...it seems no matter how much I raid the crevices of my couch I can't find any more change...

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (10th Sept)

Virus

Groovin' Blocks ain't up there...a bit disconcerting. It seems weird that it wouldn't even show up on the Top 20 list this week; the game should've attracted quite a few puzzle fans. Perhaps the lack of sales is the result of the game's rather poor preview on the Nintendo Channel. It doesn't quite sell the game well, in my opinion at least.

Re: Nintendo’s Storage Solution: Better Than HDD, Expected Soon

Virus

Better than a hard drive? Hmm...I got it: software! Buy a blank Wii Disc and download 39 of your favorite channels to it. You can even play it straight from the disc! Amazing! Terribly unrealistic, but oh well, I had a stab at it even if I hit myself while doing so.

I'm fine with buying anything extra to solve this problem, but I do fear that Nintendo might release "an updated console" with a larger hard drive packed in with the new Wii Motion-Plus controller and Wii Sports Resort. Thankfully, this idea is just as unrealistic as my first considering I used those two key words, "hard drive."

Re: USA VC Releases: Cho Aniki and Final Soldier

Virus

Why would he need courage? He needs incentive to speak his opinion and after the cruel slur of posts he received, I don't think he has reason to come back. I'm sorry folks, I didn't like his posts, grammar, or language either, but I think it would've been better if you people acted above his behavior.

Re: Potpourri Coming To US WiiWare Next Monday!

Virus

Bomberman is a puzzle game? Wow, seems like a severe labeling mistake to me even if Hudson was the one to originally label it like that...

Can't say I'm stoked about this game, but I hope it does well if it's good or badly if it sucks. I'll just wait for the puzzle, non-puzzle game to come out.

Re: USA VC Releases: Cho Aniki and Final Soldier

Virus

I shall pass up these two releases for now. Star Parodier was awesome, but I don't think I am ready for another shooter just yet. I have some other games I have to get first. Still have to finish Ys anyway. Eighties music in RPGs! Yeah!

Re: EU VC Releases: DoReMi Fantasy and Ys Book I & II

Virus

@Badknux
It is more likely than most of the games predicted on this comment page considering it is being released in Japan this month. I am confident that other than Mario Golf, Secret of Mana is the most likely choice for game 250. It would probably stregthen the relationship between Square-Enix and Nintendo if Nintendo did release Secret of Mana as that "landmark" entry. Still, you have a point about Nintendo's unpredictablilty. Personally, I think it would be hilarious if a crappy game marked the 250th spot.

Edit: Multiples of 50 have been Nintendo games usually, but sometimes other titles have been released with the Nintendo game (if I remember correctly, Sonic 3D was released alongside one "50" game).

Edit: I failed to remember correctly; Sonic 3D came out on the VC's 1 year anniversary. Oh well...

Re: EU VC Releases: DoReMi Fantasy and Ys Book I & II

Virus

Ummm...it seems people have ignored Secret of Mana. If anything, I bet that would be Europe's 250th game. Mario Golf is also a good possibility, but for the sake of being abnormal, I'll say it'll be Secret of Mana for the big 2.5...mulitplied by a hundred...

Re: RiverMan Media Interview - MadStone

Virus

I think the game would've benefitted from IR control...oh well...It doesn't look like the kind of game I would want, but as always, if this game is good, I hope it does well on WiiWare. These small developers need the money to create better games. However, if this game is of poor quality, I hope its sales match its quality. We have enough crappy publishers on WiiWare already.

Re: Empty Clip Studios Interview - Groovin' Blocks

Virus

A whole interview and I still don't know how the heck the game plays...maybe it's my brain shutting down from lack of sleep or maybe it's my brain shutting down from lack of sleep.

...Anyhoo, guess I'll wait for the review. And maybe I missed something, but where the heck was Matt during this whole interview? He just kind of popped up at the end...

Re: First Impressions: Alien Crush Returns

Virus

The whole nunchuk addition seems kind of needless to me since the Wiimote seems adequate enough, but there's probably more details I don't quite know. Still, this game looks stellar and three full tables seems like more than enough. Like ACK! said, Metroid Prime Pinball only had two full ones. If this is as good as MPP, this will probably be in my collection. Heck, it has Versus mode! I can't pass that up!

Re: USA WiiWare Update: My Aquarium

Virus

You're fine, LAA. Four years can change quite a bit. Some people have just eaten at Chili's for so long that they can't remember when they started eating there.

At least you became the center of discussion for a time.

I'd tried to pretend that I had something to post concerning the topic at hand, but there is not much to say about this news, much like this week's game. (My Aquarium just seems pointless to me...but then again, that's what nongamers say about all games...)

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (3rd Sept)

Virus

It's great to see a re-entry. I like a list that is "unstable" because it shows that old games won't always be forgotten. We're still early in the WiiWare's life, but I bet we'll see more of this shifting once we get more games.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: My Aquarium

Virus

I'm just looking forward to some great multiplayer games to come out. Strangely, it doesn't seem like WiiWare has too many of those. Or rather, I want more hectic multiplayer action like I'd find with Bomberman.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: My Aquarium

Virus

Can't say I've ever liked fish enough to buy a virtual simulator of them. I'll stick to Endless Ocean. Not only do you get your own fish tank in that game (in which you can have more kinds of fish in it), but you also get a whole game too. Support Endless Ocean everyone! It needs a sequel (preferably one that has prehistoric creatures in it).

Re: USA VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Clu Clu Land

Virus

What a day. I still have to get Ys before SMRPG, but I'm looking forward to it.

And Nintendo is already running out of Nintendo-developed NES games (at least not "imports")? I know that this nowhere near signifies the VC's end, but it seems a bit unsettling to me.

With all these great games coming out lately, I wonder if people are going to finally stop hating Nintendo...I was fine with the SMRPG complainers, but those people who said "Nintendo sucks!" kind of bothered me. Oh well, the complaints are bound to come back on a bad week, but hey, who cares?

Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - September 2008

Virus

Looks like a nice month for Japan, and I'm more than pleased to see another N64 game coming out.

@Bensei (waaaay up there)
I'd probably agree with you that Nintendo might just pretend those four slots never existed. I trust Nintendo as a company; I just wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a "1984" on us. If they say it didn't happen, well, I guess it didn't.

Another possiblility: Mario Golf will feature the first downloadable content for the VC. 200 points for each of the four characters or 600 for all four. Now that I think about it, that doesn't sound too farfetched.

Re: EU WiiWare Update: Critter Round-Up & MaBoShi

Virus

Wow, what a week for you guys. That MaBoShi is particularly surprising. I thought it wasn't expected to come out of Japan! However, I hope it gets good reviews; I wouldn't mind seeing more "Japanese" games over here.

Hmmm...is it bad that I naturally typed a "t" at the end of MaBoShi? Gah, I even did it then. Boy, who knew you could have a dirty keyboard...

Re: Strong Badia the Free - Trailer And Screenshots

Virus

No matter how much this hurts my fanboyism, I'll probably hold out on these next four games and then get the best of the bunch. I think two games will be enough for me. Still, Homsar's appearance is nothing but epic. He's the one character everyone can relate to...well...maybe just me...

Re: Bomberman Blasting Onto The Wii

Virus

Holy geez I'm excited. Bomberman has been one of my favorite multiplayer games and I expect this one to further solidify my opinion. All I need now is money...for some reason I think I'll need it...

Re: USA VC Releases: Ys Book I & II and Samurai Shodown

Virus

I'm more than happy with this week's releases. I may not have the money, but for once in a long time, I have something to crave for that I can't actually buy yet! Also for once in a long time, we got three VC games in one week. (Yes, I'm counting Ys as two games).

Re: Helix Coming To US WiiWare This Coming Monday!

Virus

Heh, I find it funny how people would rather have a "nongame" (My Aquarium) than Helix. My Aquarium didn't get a bad review, but I think it is rather strange that many people want it. Perhaps the casual games are finally infecting us all...

Re: EU VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels

Virus

sniff This is almost historic. sniff

What's that I hear in the distance? The cheers of happiness? The music of Mario? It has to be, how can it not be--wait nevermind, it's just people crying out for Earthbound and Smash Bros.

Well, glad you guys got SMRPG over there. I can't say I think Lost Levels is a great rererelease (rerererelease if you want to add Super Mario All-Stars), but hey, that's just me and my hateful guts talking.

Re: Defend Your Castle

Virus

@lockelocke
Eh, I only need one kidney; the rest can be sold. I have three if I remember correctly. (That actually sounds painful when I think about it.)

With the interactive catapult, I was thinking you could add a catapult tower to your castle that doesn't fire automatically. Instead, you would have to load a catapult and fire it manually. More specifically, you'd drag the boulders onto the catapult and then either swipe the catapult or click it to make it fire. Coverted soldiers could be used to increase how frequently rocks appeared or the blast radius of the rocks (yes, it's not realistic). It's gimmicky, but it could be fun.
