You are truly a game-saver, Bass XO, even if you did get it from GameFAQs. Now I won't shout at the TV about my crappy luck but about my terrible platforming abilities.
I like your point that Nintendo should make an effort to release games that the majority wants, but I would rather have "quantity over quality" almost. Sure, if we get three crappy games in one week, that sucks, but at least we know three crappy games are not going to show up again on the New Releases. Better games also have better chances of showing up. And it's better than getting one crappy game in one week (not saying Fatal Fury 2 is crappy).
I know my suggestion is entirely unrelated to your argument with Mike, but I would like to say I wouldn't mind seeing your suggestion either.
Well, I'm glad that the majority is content with this week's WiiWare releases. Personally, I'm a bit more bitter than some of you other gamers cough KnucklesSonic8 cough. I was hoping for two releases... just for a few decisions. I makes me wonder what's happening to those 100 games that are in development for the WiiWare... Oh well, I'll let all of you celebrate while I whine away in some dark corner for a week.
For once in a long time, I'm going to side with the angry crowd. Yes, some people are going to enjoy this week's offering (note, no "s"), but I and many others aren't. Frankly, the VC is being overrun with fighters like it was being overrun with shmups last year, and while fighter fans are in a state of euphoria, almost everybody else is dying from this overdose.
And one game just doesn't cut it. I don't even care if that game is the best freaking game in the world. Supply at least two games so people have two chances at finding a game they like. If the one game/two game pattern is now concrete for the VC, I'll be upset, to say the least. C'mon Nintendo, give us at least two games, or five every other week.
And finally, although it would be awesome to get a message to Nintendo, I don't think we could. How do we stop the world from downloading? We can't. How can we get past an automated response? We can't. Our power is small and that makes me sad considering something needs to be done.
@pApEr y0sh! Other than "extra" mode (which is mirror mode), there's nothing to be unlocked.
@india3 Get this game if you want good multiplayer and a decent single player. Still, it is almost smarter to get Mario Kart Wii. It's more expensive, but also way more expansive. As for F-Zero, get F-Zero GX for the Gamecube. It's extremely better and just ten more bucks for a new one.
Hmm, I don't know if it'll be twenty bucks, but that price would kind of ruin the point of the Wii Shop Channel. Like Phantom 5800, I would like to get at least two games with a Points Card.
@Cally Yeah, I knew they didn't do any translation to some of the imports so that's why I whined a bit. I have Sin and Punishment because they translated what needed to be translated, but I have held out on such games as DoReMi Fantasy specifically because they didn't translate it.
@Adamant I think that would be a rather hilarious predicament if they actually released an untranslated version of FE and didn't warn people. Now that would create a delightfully angry message board. Aww... my sadistic dreams will never come true...
I just hope Nintendo starts translating our imports again. Don't we pay extra money to play our games in English?
This is what WiiWare is for I believe. Old franchises that couldn't make the leap to the next generation system now have the opportunity to be revived on the WiiWare. I personally am against remakes and "retro-style" graphics (a la Mega Man 9). I would like to see old fanchises refitted with current generation graphics and new gameplay mechanics. Imagine thrown-away games like Mach Runner, Balloon Fight, Star Tropics, and Alex Kidd finding a new platform to become profitable franchises in WiiWare. I think it would be awesome.
Oh the irony... oh well, the way I see it, this is a good thing. If this comes out in Europe first, the reviews will come out and tell me if I have reason or not to be excited for this game. I've been waiting for a game to be excited for anyway. And from the way Bernard seems to be correcting us that EC will eventually be coming to America, I have no worries.
My soul just died a bit there... no N64 games... Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the US has a different virtual console list. Sadly, I'm seeing it much shorter with no N64 games...
@timp29 Well, I don't know about getting one and a half games a week... sounds buggy to me...
Terrible puns aside, I wouldn't enjoy the situation in Australia, but from the way I see it, at least it is three games a week again. Here in the US we get roughly the same amount of VC games, but more WiiWare games. So yeah, I wouldn't complain myself if I was Australia, but I can see the reason for your complaints.
This five every other week thing doesn't seem too bad from my perspective. You're already getting more VC games than the US gets in two weeks (even three). I wouldn't mind if the same thing started happening here. Still, I think at least three games should be released on the WiiWare weeks. Now that would be pleasant living, but sadly, for now it's just wishful thinking.
Heh, all the first comments are from America... I find that ironic... Well, nobody over there better be complaining, this is not a bad week for Europe.
Since I don't want Starwolf_UK's wrath to be unleashed upon you, pApEr y0sh!, I'll answer for him. He didn't write to himself. He was responding to a comment directed at him. Notice the "@starwolf_UK" in italics.
I guess I am alone with my opinion! I guess I'm just one of those poor suckers that yearns to see every game look like Super Mario Galaxy.
Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to see this game out (especially since we haven't got Mega Man 2 yet). I would just like to see games with graphics like LostWinds. But alas, graphics aren't everything (just don't tell that to the PS3 fans... ) But heck, if this game comes out with a NES price, it's a no-brainer for me.
Umm, I'm sorry, I see what they're trying to do with this NES format, but isn't a "new NES" game a step back? I think it would be more worth their time and ours if they made a game with current generation graphics, but hey, that's just me...
Heh, some are you guys are pretty fickle. I'll admit it; it sucks that you have pay extra for a game that might not have that much added content, but in these past few months, haven't I heard symphonies of praises for this game and claims to support the indie developers? From what it sounds like, you guys weren't interested in the game but in the price tag. But heck, if you guys have a problem with it, don't buy it. The retail game will end up selling pitifully, 2D boys' funding will dry up, and they and other indie publishers will not think it is worth it to localize their game for Europe. Yes, there's a fallacy somewhere in there, but I think it's still viable.
And don't you dare blame NoE, they have nothing to do with this.
After a second look, it reminds of Drill Dozer for some reason. And wow, thanks for the reply Stevens! Still, like strade32, I question if "strategic-clicking" can beat "mad-clicking." I can see how clicking only the undamaged blocks could trigger a combo after a while, but does it have that great of an advantage over just randomly clicking blocks?
I'm bothered by SSR's and MPR's place. I know Pokemon is a great fad, but c'mon, even I won't support crap that makes it that high. As for SSR, although I haven't played it myself, I would love to see a full-fledged version of it and if SSR doesn't get enough sales, well, we'll see the idea go out the window (like Tony said).
Now, I realize I might be killed for this, but I'll say it anyway. First, I must say I hope Toki Tori does well enough to garner a sequel; it's one of the few games on WiiWare that attempts to be stellar. However, I wouldn't blame people for not getting it. Although it does feature a number of puzzles that will take awhile to complete, once those puzzles are completed, the replay value isn't that great. It's like with Zack and Wiki; the game is still kind of fun during the second play-through, but since you know the solutions, the purpose of playing almost seems gone. I guess what I'm trying to say is I wouldn't be surprised if people avoided Toki Tori because they want something that they can play over and over again. (Yes, you can do that with Toki Tori, but really, would you)?
Okay, I said my spiel. I welcome any fiery retorts hurled in my direction.
Well, I for one will remain a Nintendo Power subscriber even if the internet has made it "useless." Addressing the topic, the comic idea doesn't sound bad, especially if extra content was added and the price was small, but like strade32 sort of mentioned, the Wii Shop Channel is meant for games (Everybody Votes Channel and the like excluded). I don't want an iTunes Shop on my Wii instead of a Wii Shop Channel.
Save some trees? Hah, funny, I don't see it helping much.
Umm... hah? Goodness, I hope you're joking about recognition... Considering this is a relatively old post, not many people are going to answer you, but heck, here's a response. Hope ya enjoy it.
Back to POPCAP. I don't necessarily hate their games, but I would much rather see something new from this company. We can already download their content off the internet, and I know Defend Your Castle did this too, but for such a big publisher to just keep chugging the same "casual" games out over and over again seems somewhat evil to me... Maybe I'm just watching too much Zero Punctuation...
Obviously I haven't played the game, but to compare this to Endless Ocean would be like comparing Shadow the Hedgehog to Metroid Prime just because both involve guns. And to continue the analogy, I'm also certain that Blue Oasis will have the quality of Shadow the Hedgehog next to Endless Ocean's "Metroid Prime-like" quality.
Yeah, the comparison sucks, but hey, stupidity doesn't stop an Endless Ocean fan.
^ Now isn't that something. Just shows how influential this site is getting. But to put something relevant to MadStone, the two-player looks enjoyable, but how would the single-player hold up?
@KnucklesSonic8 Mature content and Strong Bad? Heh, sorry, I find it funny. No, the entire Homestar site contains nothing worse than the mention of the word "R-rated." It's innocent humor that is hilarious. Go check it yourself at homestarrunner.com!
Awesome interview. Heck, I was looking forward to this game before, but after this, I'm moving this to my most-anticipated WiiWare game. It seems it has a heck of a lot more content than I originally thought. I may not get the latter episodes in the series, but I'm certainly getting this one!
Pshh... and Strong Bad is not the coolest... I'm with Homestar all the way
A short RPG? Sounds impossible... Well, I hope this is a good sign for the US; I've been wondering what I was missing with this Super Mario RPG. I know it's similar to Paper Mario, but could it beat that game (in my opinion at least)?
@Adamant I was actually excited when it first came to the VC, but at the time I hadn't discovered this website (at least I don't think so). So I based my opinion off an unfavorable review on IGN. Yes, it's biased for me to do so, but alas, I did. I might just have to do some more research.
I would like to see three games a week for the VC though. Last summer had it definitely right in that respect.
@ Adamant and Mike Hmm, it seems I was wrong. Well, I guess last summer I was depending on the VC for entertainment and since none of those games appealed to me, my anger was harsher than this year. Well, I might just keep my mouth shut. I don't think I can handle anymore corrections.
Heh, I knew I'd be contradicted for the soundtrack, so why didn't I explain myself? I found the music okay, but I wanted a few more tunes. Yes, the music added to the mood, you could say, but Metroid's music did the same stuff but had more variety. But heck, it's an opinion, and if anything, music is as subjective as it gets.
Yep, I agree with all you people. If the game at least doubles its original length, I'll look into it. As for other things I wish to see: 1. A more diverse soundtrack 2. More dangerous enemies and boss fights (seriously, except for falling and hitting myself with a rock, I lost no damage) 3. A reward for collecting all those stupid relics (waste of my time) 4. More items (obviously) 5. Significance with messing around with things (if I move a tree or a windmill in the background, let it have a purpose) The latter two are just nit-picking, but I'd still like to see these things. This game could be a very influential series if it actually improves greatly each game.
Well, I'm not probably going to buy anything this week on VC, but I can sure say this year's VC releases during summer are better than last year's most of the time. Looking back, we got Bloody Wolf, NES Tournament Golf Open (or whatever its name is), and World Sports Competition. I wouldn't say last year's releases are necessarily stellar considering many regard this Alex Kidd as awesome. But, alas, though I haven't been wishing for a certain game, I do hope Nintendo starts using a system to release games so people will stop whining about lack of games or too many.
Holy crap, Corbie! I'm amazed you could even secure the website name super-nes.com (but then again, I barely know anything about creating a website.) Still, that's awesome! And amazing job with the interview!
Heh, and I was beginning to think people actually liked Nintendo...
Hey, the way I see it, yeah Nintendo may be a bit stupid for doing this and now we're even more in the dark, but now we won't have these weird "leaked" games that take months to come out after their rating announcement.
I only feel bad for VC Reviews because now we won't have a fleshier "Coming Soon" section.
"you play this game on the antagonists point of view" I hope to God you're kidding me. You must be severely misinformed, messed-up, or one of the many victims of grammar mistakes. I’m guessing it’s the last one, but still, sheesh.
I hope Bernard doesn’t screw this one up. He may be brave for "putting us in the shoes of a victim," but he'll be incredibly stupid if he messes it up. For his sake, I hope he does his homework and gets it right.
I got this little gem this dark week on the Wii Shop Channel. It's a pretty darn good platformer. It may not be as epic as Mario and Sonic, but it has its own unique variety and challenge. It's not too long, but it carries some replay value and you're definitely not going to blow right through it the first time (unless you're crazy). It's a good game; it's no surprise it was TurboGrafx's major mascot.
@Gonz Yeah, I totally remember that music from your description...
Thank god something of substance might be finally coming for the WiiWare since its launch. I know Toki Tori came out and that it is good, but those games sadly don't appeal to me. With this though, I have high hopes.
You have a good point, I'll give you that, but maybe you should look at the claims that mirror yours. WiiWare is new, so who's to say it isn't the next big thing? And who's to say an excellent gem on XNA will not be overlooked because it's surrounded by shovelware?
And let me point this out since you seem to like the idea: XNA might host the next big thing that gains huge popularity (emphasis on "might") but WiiWare has already done that. It has displayed one of the indie success stories and now that game is out-selling many of its competitors.
That game is Defend Your Castle. I respect your courage to make a point though.
I think the main wrong Nintendo committed was not allowing every darn person have a dev kit, yet I stand by their decision. Give everybody a dev kit and things will be abused and secrets be given out and hardware sold to others. So a few people with gems will be missed, but if they truly have gems, they can pitch the idea to a larger company and eventually get it made.
As for WiiWare quality, I think we're judging it far too early. We have barely had it for a month. Give it at least two more before you decide to send it to the gullotine. Instant gratification will not be had from this platform.
And as for the XNA, I think it'll be a lot like the games found on Newgrounds or any other flash game site. There'll be great games on there, but I almost guarantee there'll be thrice as many half-arsed games (if not more). I'm sure WiiWare will offer more quality control even if it allows games such as Protothea. (Also, on a side note, WiiWare's games' quality is up to debate. Many other sites found Pop to be crap but Critter Round Up to be good.)
Well, it seems Nintendo is inadvertently accomplishing one of its other claims. They may have lied a bit when they would accept all WiiWare publishers, but they weren't lying when they said the Wii was for everyone. Now masochists, sadists, and extremely-deprived individuals can find enjoyment.
How does this compare to King of Fighters '94? Obviously the games aren't much alike, but when I bought KoF '94, it became apparent that I didn't like that style of fighter that much. If Samurai Shodown is bounds and leaps above KoF '94, maybe I'll consider it.
I applaud you Big=Sexy. I hope it isn't that boring for you reaching 150 because if things just continue like they do at level 100, you're going to be watching your archers decimate 44 levels of enemies. Happy playing
As for you Peznaze, I'm bamboozled, I guess you could say. I thought by now with so many mages you'd just have unlimited spells with no cool-down. Well, however it is, may you survive.
Well, call me a geek, I'm not offended. If this individual feels the need to label the people who have memory problems, so be it. He's right, a majority of people with memory issues are geeks (otaku? you gotta be an idiot, sir), but why would you toss aside one of your biggest sources of income? I'm not even going to blame this one on Nintendo; this problem is this NOE idiot.

Re: LostWinds 2
Yep, I agree with all you people. If the game at least doubles its original length, I'll look into it. As for other things I wish to see:
1. A more diverse soundtrack
2. More dangerous enemies and boss fights (seriously, except for falling and hitting myself with a rock, I lost no damage)
3. A reward for collecting all those stupid relics (waste of my time)
4. More items (obviously)
5. Significance with messing around with things (if I move a tree or a windmill in the background, let it have a purpose)
The latter two are just nit-picking, but I'd still like to see these things. This game could be a very influential series if it actually improves greatly each game.
Re: US VC Releases - 23rd June - Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Which one is probably worth my money more, Fantasy Zone or Alex Kidd?
Re: US VC Releases - 23rd June - Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Well, I'm not probably going to buy anything this week on VC, but I can sure say this year's VC releases during summer are better than last year's most of the time.
Re: Secret of Evermore - Brian Fehdrau Interview
Holy crap, Corbie! I'm amazed you could even secure the website name super-nes.com (but then again, I barely know anything about creating a website.) Still, that's awesome! And amazing job with the interview!
Re: ESRB To Crack Down On Early Leaks Of Games
Heh, and I was beginning to think people actually liked Nintendo...
Hey, the way I see it, yeah Nintendo may be a bit stupid for doing this and now we're even more in the dark, but now we won't have these weird "leaked" games that take months to come out after their rating announcement.
I only feel bad for VC Reviews because now we won't have a fleshier "Coming Soon" section.
Re: Imagination Is The Only Escape May Be Coming To WiiWare
@RetroWare
Re: Bonk 2: Bonk's Revenge
I got this little gem this dark week on the Wii Shop Channel. It's a pretty darn good platformer. It may not be as epic as Mario and Sonic, but it has its own unique variety and challenge. It's not too long, but it carries some replay value and you're definitely not going to blow right through it the first time (unless you're crazy). It's a good game; it's no surprise it was TurboGrafx's major mascot.
@Gonz
Yeah, I totally remember that music from your description...
Re: Gyrostarr Hits WiiWare This Monday!
Thank god something of substance might be finally coming for the WiiWare since its launch. I know Toki Tori came out and that it is good, but those games sadly don't appeal to me. With this though, I have high hopes.
Re: Microsoft Befuddled by WiiWare
@Ness012345
Re: Microsoft Befuddled by WiiWare
Re: We Move: Pain Vs Pleasure - New Video And Information
Well, it seems Nintendo is inadvertently accomplishing one of its other claims. They may have lied a bit when they would accept all WiiWare publishers, but they weren't lying when they said the Wii was for everyone. Now masochists, sadists, and extremely-deprived individuals can find enjoyment.
Gah... I can't believe I even made that joke.
Re: Samurai Shodown
@deadly.by.design
Thanks for the reply. How would it compare to more current fighters like Soul Calibur?
Re: Samurai Shodown
How does this compare to King of Fighters '94? Obviously the games aren't much alike, but when I bought KoF '94, it became apparent that I didn't like that style of fighter that much. If Samurai Shodown is bounds and leaps above KoF '94, maybe I'll consider it.
Re: US VC Release - 16th June - Samurai Shodown
Hmmm, does the fact that a genesis/turbografx game hasn't come out in a while worry anybody? I'd hate to see support for the VC to die this early.
Re: Defend Your Castle
I applaud you Big=Sexy. I hope it isn't that boring for you reaching 150 because if things just continue like they do at level 100, you're going to be watching your archers decimate 44 levels of enemies. Happy playing
As for you Peznaze, I'm bamboozled, I guess you could say. I thought by now with so many mages you'd just have unlimited spells with no cool-down. Well, however it is, may you survive.
Re: Nintendo: "Hard Drives Are For Geeks"
Well, call me a geek, I'm not offended. If this individual feels the need to label the people who have memory problems, so be it. He's right, a majority of people with memory issues are geeks (otaku? you gotta be an idiot, sir), but why would you toss aside one of your biggest sources of income? I'm not even going to blame this one on Nintendo; this problem is this NOE idiot.
