I think part of that was not wanting to run the risk of wanting one later down the line and it’s more expensive because of tariffs. Me personally, it was cheaper than I thought (I had budgeted $90)
Just another lackluster Pokémon presentation. Mainly those stupid mobile phone gimmicks with no real substance. It seems like that’s all Pokémon is these days: a gimmick. It’s either a way to make a quick dime off of cheap Chinese mobile games that otherwise wouldn’t have sold or for scalpers to buy cards. The upcoming Pokémon Legends is the only thing that seems to be half way decent and it took completely new hardware to make their last gen game even playable in the first place. They should really re-evaluate the Pokémon brand, but they won’t because all this Nintendo management cares about is making those quick bucks no matter what shortcuts they take.
Playing it for a while, I think Nintendo made the game a little TOO smashy. I too find myself being still on the initial opening where you get Odd Rock simply because I’m spending way too much time just smashing everything in sight. Have over 12,000 ingot and about 150 Banana coins already.
@Metazoxan let me explain something to you. If you’re going to give me the talk about indie games being on there, I get that. I’ll also give you a counterpoint that happened to me quite a few times. There were some indie games that I downloaded that I wanted to try or that people said I should play. I liked them, and then I purchased them. Matter of fact, I wound up not only purchasing them for the Switch, but every platform it was available for. Without piracy, I wouldn’t have discovered games like Stardew Valley, Spiritfarer, Dave The Diver, Balatro, Steamworld Dig, etc. I play those kinds of games more than big budget ones these days. But even that too you don’t truly own and that’s where the downloaded versions come in. You can do what you want with them. I back them up in case the store ever goes down or if I want to make room on my device. Switch 1 especially has faster speeds installing with USB than a network. I do feel for the indies caught up in it, but at the same time, buying digital doesn’t mean you actually own it, you’re just renting it. And that’s thievery too. I wish they’d finally pass legislation either demanding game companies change their distribution methods or change the classification to state that it’s a rental. Until then, it’s like I stated. If you don’t truly own it, then downloading is fine. There IS a code that goes along with that as I just stated, but it remains true all the same.
On wireless, took me about 14 minutes to download Bravely Default. On wired, took me about eight minutes to download BOTW Switch 2 Edition. My Steam Deck OLED beats those as it only took me four minutes on a wired connection to download GTA V, which compared to the other two, is an over 100GB game. I’m using a gigabit connection and I know at peak, my Steam Deck OLED downloads at about 750mbps. Not sure if there’s a way to see the Switch 2’s speed.
Then stop making online only games. There. Problem solved. Companies will literally make any excuse so they can get away with horrible tactics. It’s no wonder why indie games have picked up so much steam over the years recently. People are sick and tired of these online only, multiplayer only titles. They want single player. They want a game that they buy and can play for years on end. How hard is it to stop with these “live service” games?
It’s been good so far, however, much like how the PS5 and Series X were, you can tell it wasn’t completely ready. The hardware was done yes, but the fact that we had so many crashes and issues so far is probably a reason why units were sitting in a warehouse so long. The battery has been a little more acceptable once it was properly drained and calibrated. But there needs to be serious fixes to the firmware as it stands now. On the OG Switch, I only once or twice maybe had a game freeze or crash. On the Switch 2, it’s happened multiple times. Both with Batman Arkham Knight (a game that people lauded as working on the Switch 2) and Cyberpunk (which other people have also complained about crashing). This is another reason why I don’t think I’m going to pick up hardware at launch anymore, no matter how long it takes to find afterwards, because it seems like in these last few console launches, they’ve sold half baked stuff for full price and what we’ve purchased is a beta test where you get to keep the product.
I’m going to wait until I see some reviews before dropping the cash. Especially since I have to pay $130 for all the wrestlers. I STILL have PTSD from preordering WWE 2K18 on the Switch…..
It's a little hefty, but so far, I've been able to charge my Switch 2 fully three times and it still has 18% left. It was on sale briefly for $34.99 which is when I got it.
@sixrings if you live in the real world and can use such big words as “inflation”, then you can understand why it’s stupid for a a lot of us to buy a $2,000 and up TV. Let’s see….do I pay the mortgage? Do I pay my car note? Or do I drop it on a $2,000 TV that may only last me for maybe a few years before it needs to be replaced as TV’s are built now to be replaced rather than fixed? You tell me. You’re so in touch with the real world, right?
@TrogdorTheBurninator it’s in the video, though you have to navigate through a bunch of ranting and ***** to get to it. Figured to just put it here and save people time.
@masterLEON @Polvasti this is also the same ***** whose original answer to not having an HGiG TV was to go out and buy one! It’s like yeah that’s nice that you got the money where you can just drop $2,000 on an LG OLED with that. A lot of here in the real world can’t and my $400 LG 4K TV works just as well with my PS5 Pro and Series X.
Feels dark at times, especially on the Switch 2’s screen. Fantasy Life is the biggest offender. Looked so bright on my OLED but looks dark and dull even WITH HDR set to “Compatible Software Only”. Haven’t tried the handheld since I adjusted the settings as shown in the video (my LG doesn’t have HGiG), but playing Mario Kart World on the TV looked a LOT better.
For those like me (which is probably many of you) without HGiG that don’t feel like spending ten minutes on a video, here’s the gist of it:
-Set the suns all the way down to its lowest setting (both should be black).
-Then with the analog stick, after the first slight press up to go back up, slightly press the stick 58 times upwards, counting as you go along and making sure the suns get lighter. When you get to 58, stop.
-Then on the Mario screen, set the slider all the way to the left.
-After this, slightly press the analog stick right (hearing clicks along the way) six times.
After those two have been taken care of, exit and try with a game you know has HDR, usually Mario Kart World or Zelda Switch 2 Editions.
@Picola-Wicola that’s why you gotta get the tempered glass ones and a can of compressed air to make sure no dust is on the screen when you put it on. That film stuff doesn’t do anything. The tempered glass also makes it easy to clean too.
@Jack_Goetz that’s the EXACT one I used and honestly, it’s what I’m going to try and use in the future if applicable. Just needed to use the compressed air to make sure there was no dust and boom. Perfect install and not a hair out of place like it normally was for me without it. Done the one touch thing with the Steam Deck OLED and the Switch 2. Hopefully I can find one for the PlayStation Portal as I need to redo that one.
I ALWAYS use a tempered glass screen protector for every portable I use. Whether it’s a Switch, a Steam Deck, even my iPhone. I always have to have tempered glass and a case.
@Antraxx777 that part I know. You have to free that divine beast to end the endless rainfall there. Wasn’t talking about that area. Other areas too. I even had it happen in the Gerudo desert of all places.
After calibrating the battery a few times according to Nintendo’s instructions, playing both Zelda BOTW and Pokémon Scarlet in the same session netted me 2:39 of game play. Originally at 1%, I was able to play for another twenty minutes more or so. Now, it went from 1% to dead within two and a half minutes (got the 1% warning at 2:37 and it turned off when it almost turned to 2:40). Perfectly fine as it shouldn’t be 1% more than about five minutes if calibrated correctly. Just hoping it stays that way now as I’ll be using power banks to charge at times.
@Stormcloudlive seems like it’s even worse in the Switch 2 version. Like it goes from raining, to stopped even just moving a couple feet up a cliff or mountain. It’ll even change weather that way too. At least on the original version, it’ll stay one way or the other for a little while. It was still *****, but at least it was steadier.
@Joriss Not raining for literally ten seconds then switching to sun, and back again.
@Crimson_Ridley not sure. I never put the 90% on. Did the recovery mode thing, went from 84% to 82% in that time. Now I’m doing the drain to 1% and full charge training like is stated here. I also did the drain to 1% and fill it up to 100% like I do with anything lithium ion, and while it helped a tiny bit, still getting just a little over 2 hours playing Zelda and Fantasy Life i (like maybe 2:10-2:15).
@Arawn93 I know that. My point was that Nintendo should’ve done better for the Switch 2. The Steam Deck is a portable PC and is a fully working Linux machine. The Switch 2 is a handheld gaming console. The Steam Deck and its OLED version have been out for two years at least. Plenty of time for Nintendo to learn from that and put a bigger battery in the Switch 2
Battery life is a big disappointment for me. Two hours is something I’m used to on the Steam Deck, not a new Nintendo console. Hoping it can be fixed with an update or maybe per game. Because for the battery to drain like it does with Mario Kart, Pokémon Scarlet, and Zelda, that’s unacceptable. Everything else is nice, but as someone who is out a lot going to doctors and hospitals and test sites, I need something that can keep me going through it all.
If not for the stupid blue stripe of the PAL version, then it would be tied between Japan and the European. But since Japan is much cleaner with just the logo in the corner, Japan had the better art.
Obvious question but curious why Nintendo hasn’t added Nintendo Music to their Alarmo clocks? It is a no brainer and honestly would be the thing for me to finally buy one.
@Koda1000 It’s TwinFami Productions. Have a newer channel I’m uploading to without Google Plus being attached to it and the older channel which had Google Plus attached so if I lose access to that, I’m screwed.
@Koda1000 for my YouTube video that I’m going to do on Switch 2, I’ll be looking to answer that. Already made a Japanese account and plan on downloading the Japanese GameCube app. At least on Switch 1, as long as you have a profile of a paid NSO member using it, you should be good.
Thank GOD I’m doing a midnight Best Buy launch because despite my best efforts to just have a day where I don’t do ***** but play Switch 2, I have to go to the hospital later that afternoon for a PET scan of my heart. That’s not something I want to put off. So, sucks for that but at least I get to take it on the road and do a road test.
