I'm starting to get sick of the term "core gamer." It irritates me because I play games on a consistent basis. Only a rare few blockbuster games garner my attention. If I'm not playing a game like the binding of isaac or risk of rain then chances are I'm playing tetris or any given 1st party nintendo game on my 3ds. You cannot define your game experience by the power of the system you play on. You can only define it by the joy that a player gets from playing the games he or she enjoys.
I love the galaxy games, but honestly i just want to see something new that can impress me in the way Galaxy did. Not another sequel with an upres and some new visual effects. 3D world looks a bit different and that's a good thing in some ways, it just didn't have the wow factor when it debuted. In the end I guess I just want something new and impressive.
to say that dual analogs are bad/inferior is going a bit far, but I do agree that the only reason I like to play CoD on Wii and Wii U is pointer controls.
One of the games I'm excited for when I eventually get a Wii U. Dunno how many times I've made the same statement for other games. Either way it's getting close to the point that I pick one up. That point may just be smash bros. though.
Wii U has had a decent TV presence with games like Skylanders and Disney's Planes, but otherwise those who play games don't really know what a Wii U is or they don't care because all the 3rd party games are on current gen with more features. There simply isn't much cool factor to the wii u atm. The kiosks in gamestops are rather popular and I find that curious. There must be something about the wii u people can get into. The question is, just exactly what?
Both games deserve more attention than they have already. My guess is the consumer simply has a tight budget. it's been a big year for games between both the quality indie and AAA titles. Only so much people can do.
Tetris Axis has been my thing lately and will be my thing for a little while longer. Will be playing BF4 beta(PS3) and anything else will either be BoI(PC) or smash bros.(any of the 3) and whatever other MP games when I go to a weekly hang out with mah friends.
Players on other systems will be using other devices for a second screen experience, so i assume that's why it's cheaper. I don't know if I want this to become a continuing trend. Unless of course this means more third party Wii U support.
They're not doing anything particularly new or challenging anything right now though. Tis a shame. If we had more games that have the spirit of Nintendo Land maybe I could have a bit more faith.
If they are determined to show their support for Wii U they had better treat this and watch dogs just like any other system at the least. They've made a decent attempt to show that Wii U is a step-up from current gen as well, and hopefully they will continue to do that through the rest of 2013 and beyond.
@johndevine BTW this is not a beat 'em up. Games like tekken tag, injustice, tatsunoko vs. capcom, and the like are technical fighters. The only thing injustice lacks as a fighting game from what I hear is depth in it's mechanics. I've played it and it feels great to me. Heck I'm not even familiar with half the characters in the game. It may not be a system seller, but it's not a slouch of a game either.
Great. Now let's watch the plethora of stretch goals not be met. Disappointing really. But in the end the project was started to get the game off the ground in the first place. Stretch Goals. Why you make me so conflicted?
That bit about dx11 is quite interesting to hear. As far as we've known it's not supported. Perhaps we will see more of Wii U's capabilities in Shin'en's new engine.
It's a good thing they were funded, but seeing stretch goals not met is becoming increasingly disappointing to me. Maybe that's because they're there at the start of the campaign and not added later. Something about my psyche tells me I'm being mislead I guess.
Unfortunately I don't expect them to reach more than one or 2 of the stretch goals. That said no doubt in my mind it will get funded. Just makes the game seem a little bare bones with all those stretch goals simply sitting there.
I have a firm belief that Wii U will always get the short end of the stick in this generation just as the Wii did. Bethesda makes a good point. I've never played their games, they interest me, but I've never played them. The praise they get must be somewhat justified so what they have to say must certainly hold a majority of truth. Quality multiplatform experiences or going to be so lackluster more often than not and that's what I wanted to see change from the Wii era. All I can really hope for is that those supporting Wii U at the moment continue to push it's boundaries and deliver experiences that are fun and engaging.
Well it's definitely what I would count as the spiritual successor to the N64 titles. While it was great i feel it still lacked a little something. In the narrative perhaps? I'm not sure. I'm still looking for that next zelda title that really connects you to it's world.. or something like that.
Some BF3(PC) and Binding of Isaac. If I head over to a friend's we'll do some N64 gaming including smash bros. and other classics. Will try to get in some Bit Trip. COMPLETE multiplayer and Red Steel 2 action as well.
EVO is still a generally niche audience. It's not like the most die-hard of Nintendo Franchise fans that have never seen or heard a whimper of Smash bros. would come across the event anyways.
@AeroTech That's unfair to say about the game. That said, it doesn't look like it's doing much different (doesn't look much different either), but I think only playing it will tell whether it's just inventive enough to be fun. I follow CoD, but have yet to own BO2. Perhaps this time CoD will be treated equally (excluding xbox) on Wii U as well which is a plus (for those who care anyway.)
I would love to acquire a copy of the prime trilogy as I missed it back at launch, but it's used price kept climbing. Unfortunately I also lost my xenoblade disc which was likely swiped by a fellow student earlier this year and of course it's my fault since I was too careless.

Guess this was pushed into next year.
Re: Feature: 12 Days of Christmas - Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Devours Time and Pushes Boundaries
Very little comes close to the breadth of content this game (and the series) has. It's my goty as well that's for sure.

@Einherjar Agreed
Re: Nintendo Confirms That Smash Bros. Isn't Lined Up for Spring
Doesn't mean it won't be out by then.
Re: Rumour: Smash Bros. Heading for a Spring 2014 Release
I wouldn't doubt it. It'll be six years since brawl's release next year. Seems to be the trend when it comes to smash games.

Re: Here Are More Gorgeous Super Mario 3D World Screens to Enjoy
@grimbldoo I'll admit you have a point there, but there's only so much to base the game's look off of.
Re: Here Are More Gorgeous Super Mario 3D World Screens to Enjoy
@Ernest_The_Crab That's exactly what I was thinking. In the end it looks great for the most part.
Re: Here Are More Gorgeous Super Mario 3D World Screens to Enjoy
It's pretty, but the whole plastic look the characters have still throw me off a bit.

I want them to work on Wii U for the right reasons. Not to make unattractive games that sell to consumers that don't know any better.

I just played the demo on steam and I've gotta say this game is a blast.
Re: New Splinter Cell Blacklist Maps Creeping Onto Wii U
A AAA 3rd party title that's getting DLC support? Blasphemy. Glad to see that the money grubby trends of this gen are still as strong as ever.

Some MH3U on 3DS perhaps, but primarily BF3 on PC I think. A friend wants to hop in the CoD train on PS3 so maybe a bit of that as well.
