Re: Paper Mario Producer Says He's "Not Opposed To The Fans' Opinions"

TrevorMcD

@gaga64 Nah, it'll be fine. If you ever have the time go and play Thousand-Year Door, none of those glitches and bugs here, and I still like Final Fantasy VII. A great game is a great game, just try not to look at too many let's plays or videos on Thousand Year Door because the small and big moments are worth discovering on your own.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says He's "Not Opposed To The Fans' Opinions"

TrevorMcD

@LordGeovanni @TYRANACLES @Not_Soos @BakaKnight @tanaka2687 @ReWane @SalvorHardin I think you all nailed it, others too. For people who think we're being fanboys/girls because we're disappointed, try to hear us out. Most of us like innovation, but it would be nice if it was in addition to the solid mechanics and variety of well-developed characters of the original trilogy. A lot of those things that made the Paper Mario series so special have been taken away including the badge system and unique looking partners. One of the many things that underwhelms me about this current game is the bosses. In Paper Mario 2 TTYD we had Rawk Hawk, Doopliss, and a surprising final boss. In Paper Mario 3 SPM we had Francis, Mr. L, and a whole rogues gallery for the main villains. In Origami King we have...a box of colored pencils and a hole puncher.

Re: How Well Do You Know Rare And Its Nintendo Games?

TrevorMcD

12 out 15. I thought it would be much harder. I thought if they throw some ZX Spectrum questions at me I'm toast. Decent quiz, got me in the mood to play more Rare Replay. On a related note I had often hoped that Rare would be able to remaster Jet Force Gemini in HD, and they did with modern twin stick controls. The fans wishes were granted and not many people cared, but oh well it's great.

Re: Switch Is Getting An All-New Wonder Boy Game In 2021

TrevorMcD

@Wargoose More of a pogostick but thank you. I love and have beaten both the NES and the Remastered version which was fantastic. Perhaps I'll try DuckTales 2 one day.
@robr Whoa thank you! Aggelos looks great! Four more days until Monster World VI (Monster Boy should be V right?)

Re: Random: Astronomical Discovery In Super Mario Galaxy's Logo

TrevorMcD

This was a very nice article, I didn't know about this. It's cool to imagine the Mushroom Kingdom and Sarasaland are in the next galaxy over. Kind of like how Termina in Majora's Mask is arguably set in our galaxy because you can see the Big Dipper and Orion's Belt in the north side of Clock Town. Thank you for posting this Liam.

Re: How Well Do You Know Metroid?

TrevorMcD

I got 8 out of 12, but there's a mistake on two of them. For Question 8 there's no mention of Metroid Classic NES Series on Game Boy Advance, that would have made it 15 which is what I counted. So I chose 16 because I knew it was at least more than 14. For Question 10, sigh that leotard has always looked more red than pink, it even looks red in the picture. I just went on my NES Nintendo Switch Online app, just put in the Justin Bailey code...yeah that leotard is red it's the same color as her red wave beams.

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th July (North America)

TrevorMcD

I'm not feeling these last 3 Paper Marios. The first director Ryota Kawade, who had the most interesting ideas, left and it shows. I'll just stick with his original trilogy for now.

Re: WayForward's New Switch Game Is Bakugan Champions Of Vestroia, Coming In November

TrevorMcD

@KingBowser86 I gotta respectfully disagree, WayForward got called upon by Konami to do Contra 4 and then they got called upon by Disney to do Ducktales Remastered. Bakugan isn't a step up by any means, it's not a passion project like those other two it's just something to pay the bills.
Man some Bakugan fans are probably really happy about this, that's great but man I am kind of disappointed. Oh well I got the Bloodstained games at least.

Re: Nintendo Treehouse Live Airs Friday With Reveal Of New WayForward Game

TrevorMcD

Man I immediately thought of Castlevania when I saw this announcement, and sure enough the first comment said that. Oh man what could it be?? Can we take a moment and appreciate how much WayForward has been putting out since last year? We got Mighty Switch Force Collection, River City Girls, the once April Fools joke made real released on April Fools Catgirl without Salad, and Shantae Seven Sirens. I'm losing my mind trying to think of what series it could be.

@RPGamer @Chimera_Police Won't be Double Dragon, they already did Neon. This will be an IP WayForward has never done before. As far as hand-drawn Double Dragon ....River City Girls is right over there . They're all from Kunio-Kun... it counts.

Yeah a hand-drawn Double Dragon would be boss.

Re: Nintendo Treehouse Live Airs Friday With Reveal Of New WayForward Game

TrevorMcD

@TimboSlice Their track record for big 3rd party IPs is pretty good, many are critically acclaimed. They did Scorpion King GBA, A Boy and his Blob, Double Dragon Neon (is great no matter what IGN says), Batman Brave and the Bold, Adventure Time - Hey Ice King (Zelda II love letter), Aliens on DS, DuckTales Remastered, and a little game on the DS called CONTRA 4!
I don't know if you've played them but the Shantae games are pretty great, they're really fun light-hearted Metroidvanias/platformers with solid classic game mechanics and a sometimes ridiculous amount of animation (even on the Gameboy Color no less). Mighty Switch Force 1 & 2 are also great with their puzzle platforming and Daft Punk inspired soundtrack. Give any one of those a try you'll probably have fun, unless you hate 2D.

Re: Hotshot Racing Gets Delayed Until Summer 2020

TrevorMcD

@Benji80 THANK YOU! I knew it looked familiar.
Man I feel the same way about Hot Shot Racing, and Horizon Chase Turbo very great and fun game I just wish it had drifting. Glad Hot Shots has a chance of coming out, I have Outrun 2 too those are the kind of controls that I miss. Sonic Racing Transformed had it but I've been hungry for arcade time extension levels.

Re: Hotshot Racing Gets Delayed Until Summer 2020

TrevorMcD

@Benji80 What anime is that in your profile pic? I've also been very hungry for this game or any arcade driving game with drifting. I've been waiting for 90s Arcade GP (90s Arcade Racer) since the Wii U. Meanwhile a SEA of driving sims (like Gran Turismo PS5) are constantly announced and released.

Re: Video: 19 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In May

TrevorMcD

Well after Shantae of course I'm going to play Xenoblade. Let's see if I can make it further past the big sword bridge this time, that's a giant game. Being shin-deep in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Streets of Rage 4 coming out on April 30th, SNK Gals Fighters (NeoGeoPocketColor) also coming out on the 30th, Shantae, and Xenoblade I don't know when I'm going to play Wonderful 101. Man, it is a crowded release schedule.

Re: Video: 19 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In May

TrevorMcD

SHANTAE AND THE SEVEN SIRENS. Why do sites and YouTube channels keep forgetting this game in the May lists? I know... it's a crowded release schedule consisting of Bioshock collection, Borderlands collection, and Xenoblade Definitive Edition, but I'm really surprised NintendoLife missed it. As people mentioned before Shantae is on the 28th.
Shantae game releases keep getting overshadowed for some reason, it's like a Red Sox curse or something.

Re: The Legend of Dark Witch

TrevorMcD

@StephenYap3 Yeah this HD remaster rules! It's a quirky platformer with Gradius mechanics and Mega Man/TOUHOU style bosses. Now the characters are hand drawn, the original game graphics are included, and it has unlockable mini games like breakout and poker. Unlockables include scenario art, character art from the original and the remastered versions, comments from the staff, another playable character with a different moveset, comic strips, and ANIME SHORTS. Mega Man fans, Gradius fans, don't sleep on this. You're getting a lot for your money with this game.

Re: Feature: Which Nintendo Switch Game Did We Miss?

TrevorMcD

Legend of Dark Witch, it got a HD release on the Switch with lots of extras including the original game, minigames, and anime shorts. There was always news on this site about this series from trailers, reviews, and interviews so I was surprised when the remastered version of Dark Witch on the Switch never got a review. It's such a cool quirky plaform game with Mega Man and Gradius mechanics, I think HD version deserves a review.

Re: Random: The Guy Behind 'Thong Song' Has Backed The Wonderful 101 Kickstarter

TrevorMcD

Yeah Thong Song and SisQó were HUGE. I remember him from the Dru Hill days. That's awesome that it's actually him, clearly it's a song you don't take too seriously. In my younger days I was very pleased to see such bodacious babes in his videos and on his appearances on MTV's Spring Break. It was so big even Jake virt Kaufman, composer of many WayForward games, did a chiptune for it. I'm glad someone as over the top as SisQó also appreciates Wonderful 101, come to think of it....it kind of makes sense that he would like it!

Re: Speedway Racing Will Bring Daytona USA-Style Action To Switch Soon

TrevorMcD

So last I heard about 90s Super GP (90s Arcade Racer) it was obtained by Nicalis, publisher of Cave Story, Binding of Isaac, and Blade Strangers. There's a Switch trailer that Nintendolife posted but like everyone else I've been waiting since the Wii U.
I just found a video about what may have happened to 90s Super GP on YouTube, I will report back or try to submit it to the site.

Re: What Sakurai Really Meant When He Said Smash Bros. "Is For Good Boys And Girls"

TrevorMcD

@RazumikhinPG sigh That's pretty bad.

I too hate that Mai is not in it even though I understand it. I was curious in the beginning when Smash Ultimate was rated E10, I'm surprised a fighting game wasn't rated T for Teen anyway. It's a shame SNK couldn't have their Chun-Li equivalent in Smash because of some ratings issues, a real shame. It's a shame the ratings board put Sakurai and Sora Ltd. through all that trouble with Palutena and Wonder Pink, so that they knew they would have problems getting Mai in there. It's a shame, but I'll get over it. She's in other games along with my favorite, Shermie.

Re: Poll: Come On, Tell Us If You've Been Playing As Terry Bogard In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

TrevorMcD

I have the fighter's pass and yes, Terry is very very fun to me. The fact that they were able to put in almost all of Terry's moves from Fatal Fury and The King of Fighter series is remarkable. They even have that little "Go" logo at the bottom from Real Bout Fatal Fury series that let's you know when you can do his stronger specials like Power Geyzer & Buster Wolf. The KOF stage is fantastic with all the King of Fighters characters in the background, and having FIFTY SNK SONGS (including Metal Slug series and Psycho Soldier Jp/Eng VOCALS!) in that stage feels like we're getting away with something. It just warms my heart seeing so much overwhelming love and care to Terry Bogard and the SNK lore in general.

I hate that Mai Shiranui isn't here because the game is rated lower than T for Teen, but for now I'll be happy with all the riches we did get. And hey she is still in SNK Heroines, King of Fighters XIV is coming to the Switch at some point, and no doubt she'll be in King of Fighters XV. Hope this all brings new fans to King of Fighters. Thanks for reading.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - October 2019

TrevorMcD

@Porkins @StephenYap3 Sure thing and thanks yo! I just found out today that Dark Witch has surround sound, there's some AAA Switch titles that don't have that.
I mean...one of the bosses looks like Ryuko Matoi from Kill La Kill, and then there's a buff snowman enemy who literally flexes on you and spits hot fire. This game needs more love, I can barely put it down myself.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - October 2019

TrevorMcD

The Legend of Dark Witch is my favorite Switch title from October. Is anyone here going to review it? They added a lot of enhancements and unlockables to this HD release. Before one of my phone tabs signed me out, I had a page long description of all the additions like the new hand drawn graphics, changeable boss battle music and attack patterns, the original 3DS game being unlockable, unlockable mini-games like Breakout and poker, comic strips, ANIME SHORTS, and more. This game marks Inside System's 5th anniversary, which they made a very cute logo of, and I think this passionate HD edition should be covered. I love these Dark Witch games, they are lighthearted platformers that are like Gradius and Mega Man with cute anime girls. On the US eShop it's $6.99 but currently on sale for $5.59 until November 7th. I tried to find the European prices but when I did that in another tab it logged me out of this one. If you're into platformers, a Gradius meter at the bottom, and Mega Man style boss battles don't sleep on this. The game has a manual and there's a trailer on the eShop and YouTube. Check it out!

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th October (North America)

TrevorMcD

@Seanmyster6 YES! Me too, I was so ready to vote for The Legend of Dark Witch as THE game I would download this week. I'm disappointed that it wasn't on the list, and it wasn't available at midnight like someone on another website said, but we have it now. Mega Man×Gradius anime goodness here I come.

Re: Konami Confirms Full Line-Up Of Games Included In The Contra Anniversary Collection

TrevorMcD

@Savino Yes! I thought about this the other day, since other arcade games are vertical I think they could figure out a way to make Contra 4 work both in portable mode (esp. with that new Tate controller grip) and on the TV. Contra arcade looks just fine and the WayForward team saw the DS and decided to use that as inspiration for Contra 4. Here's hoping for volume 2 Contra Collection.

Re: Konami Confirms Full Line-Up Of Games Included In The Contra Anniversary Collection

TrevorMcD

If you just want to focus on the cream-of-the-crop here's what I know:

Contra Arcade- Tall vertical screen, decent detail for the time, with a mechanical sounding soundtrack. The power-ups pop out as real guns, the jumps aren't as high as NES but they're decent, and as said before less levels than the NES version but still good fun.

Super Contra Arcade: I tried it on Xbox Live, I hate that the jumps were so much shorter. Even shorter jumps than the first arcade. I played the demo multiple times I couldn't take it anymore. I'd stick with Super C console versions.

Probotector versions- I'm a silly American so someone else will have to chime in for those. All I know is they put in all robots instead of humans which can be cool in its own right.

Contra- Just go with the Famicom version! The classic Konami code works. It has a special chip so there's lots of awesome animation like waving leaves in the jungle stage and pulsating organs in the final stage, in between levels there's cutscenes with Bill or Lance shooting off their machine guns or talking on their walkie-talkies, there's a final cutscene that would make Arnold himself proud, and even a secret message from the enemy if you put in a code on a second controller. No joke.

Super C- The Famicom version may be the best because I think it gives you 30 lives instead of 10 lives in the code. The code is different by the way.

Contra III- I don't think you can go wrong with any version. If the Probotector story is more interesting let me know.

Contra Hard Corps- Once again I'd go with the Japanese version. In a brutally hard game among other hard games, this version actually gives you 3 hit points. The extra life code which is different ONLY works in this version, and it gives you 70 LIVES!

Operation C- Like Castlevania 2: Belmont's Revenge on Game Boy, it performs shockingly well, has good controls, completely different levels from it's NES counterparts, and an amazing soundtrack for the Game Boy (one of the tracks was remixed in Contra Rebirth, the level with the ostriches). Another Game Boy classic you shouldn't sleep on, a must play.

Thanks for listening, I had to comment on this, THIS is an EVENT! It took them 13 years to finally put console Contra 1 on digital stores!

Re: The Legend Of Dark Witch 3 Casts A Spell Over 3DS Next Week

TrevorMcD

@INSIDE_SYSTEM I just made an account to comment. I love these games! I love the Mega Man × Gradius mechanics of the main three games and I love how addictive (and the art style) Brave Dungeon is.
I would love for all three Dark Witch games to be on the Switch! I will double dip because I love them and the spinoffs.
