Graceful Explosion Machine developer Vertex Pop has today revealed that its next project, Super Crush K.O., will be blasting its way onto Switch next month.
The game is a fast-paced brawler which combines beat-em-up and run ‘n gun action. Players take control of fashionable protagonist Karen - not that one - on a journey through a colourful world overrun by frantic robot enemies. Karen must wipe them out using punches, kicks and long-range combat in fluid combos on the way to save her cat Chubbz - and humanity, too.
As you can see in the fancy new trailer above, the game boasts bright, hand-drawn graphics, a welcoming pastel colour palette and a catchy soundtrack. We really enjoyed Graceful Explosion Machine when it came to Switch not long after the console's launch, so hopefully this next Vertex Pop title will be equally impressive.
Features
- Lightning-fast gameplay that seamlessly blends run n’ gun action and intense beat-em-up combat
- Launch, juggle, and shoot waves of robots out of the sky in stylish, easy-to-execute combos
- Keep your score climbing from enemy to enemy with thunderous ground smashes, high flying aerial attacks, and the devastating Super Beam
- Blast through a vibrant world inspired by colourful urban cityscapes and pastel skylines
- Online leaderboards and ranking systems will keep you coming back to S-Rank over 20 challenging levels
It'll be available directly from the Switch eShop on 16th January.
Will you be adding this one to your Switch library?

The last boss better not be the Manager of whatever store...
Bland artstyle, title, and music, but the combat itself looks pretty fun.
Can we move away from these 8 bit "homages" ?
I'd rather we get more 16 and 32 bit type styles.
@KitsuneNight 8-bit is alot easily and cheaper to make I guess
but yeah I only get interested if it's a 16-bit or better yet some 3D 32-bit styles
@ClassSonicSatAm
Personally I am getting bored of all these 8 bit style games.
They present you with great art, and then the game itself looks like the NES barfed all over it.
And that puts me off.
@KitsuneNight yeah, I know what you mean. The game looks interesting but I’m somewhat bored of this look as well.
Yeah, that's Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter
@KitsuneNight Im confused, this is a vector based game not 8bit.
@Ardisan
It's art design and looks are 8 bit
It's designed to look like it belongs on the Nes, just with better colors and animation.
I'm REALLY not into the artstyle but if the combat is as FANTASTIC as it looks I'm all about it.
@KitsuneNight 8bit doesnt string that far, it has to have a small sharp pixel count with zero anti aliasing, and a small limited palette to emulate retro 8bit systems such as the atari, commodore, or nes to be implied as real 8bit pixel art. Better colors and animation highly strays away from that style. This games art style looks more Flat Design to me, coming from the modern graphic design style we use for websites and more with vector based tools such as Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Animate (flash).
Looks a little clunky. Graceful Explosion machine has my expectations set extremely high but we’ll see if it can hit those highs I guess.
@Ardisan yeah defo looks more like a flash game to me!
@cool_boy_mew that was my first thought too haha
@KitsuneNight Yeah, I'd like to see more 32-bit style games in the fashion of PS1.
bummed when official art clashes with in game graphics
@KitsuneNight Looks more like newgrounds flash games circa 2003 barfed all over it. A shame too, because the concept art looks adorable, but the gameplay looks so low-rent.
Huh? Most people aren't digging this? I immediately love this art style, on the fact it's not 8-bit. An NES can't run this. It's a sharp colorful art style that's anything but pixelated. This looks and sounds great to me. She looks like Sailor Jupiter in a beat'em -up. I'm sold personally.
this reminds me of a tumblr game e~e"........80's vibe though, no thank you.
@MagnaRoader Ya mean Lord Boxman or Boxmore? I don't think this is that kind of "K.O".
But she'll fight to the end and she is my best friend, so...
Hmmm...reminds me of "Runbow"...
@Ralizah I think skybolt Zack did it better. It's tough to be hyped for a lot of upcoming stuff as better games may be released in the meantime.
