Re: The Inevitable SNES Classic Mini Hack Is Well Underway

TheGameSquid

@cowzRgreat
This is exactly why most of the world has been ok with emulation. I think plenty of people would be willing to pay money for classic titles, if they were available in high quality formats on a high quality service and at the right price. But Nintendo's only efforts so far (the lacklustre Virtual Console incarnations, and these plastic mini-toys) are disappointing.

Re: Deals: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For October And November

TheGameSquid

It's cool to see such a strong month in terms of retail releases, though I'm not impressed by the list one bit. Mario Odyssey is obviously looking flat-out amazing, but I still have my serious doubts about FE Warriors. All the other games seem like ports of older games that we've seen years ago (Skyrim, L.A. Noire, Axiom Verge, Tiny Barbarian, etc.) or shovelware (Monopoly, Simulator games, etc.).

Both Skyrim and L.A. Noire are 6 years old now. With all due respect, but why the hell would you spend 60$ on games this old? You can get them on a variety of other platforms (most likely better versions even) for easily 1/4th of that price. It's utterly ridiculous. Or 30$ for Tiny Barbarian? You have got to be kidding me. Plenty of other games a much higher priced as well (Ittle Dew, Axiom Verge, etc.).

Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch

TheGameSquid

@Fazermint
Bad? The Oddworld games still hold up and are true video game classics. New 'N Tasty was a solid remake. Not sure what you're talking about.

@kensredemption
Seems like a bit of an arrogant thing to say. Did you spend time working at Oddworld Inhabitants or Just Add Water? No? Where did you get your information on the dev being "lazy" and "a whiny runt" then? But don't worry, they probably WILL take their business elsewhere. And next time a game a game gets announced without a Switch port we'll get a news article with 200 people saying "WHY THE HELL ARE THEY NOT RELEASING THIS ON SWITCH THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS". Christ.

Now I don't know any numbers or statistics that can actually back up Lanning's claim, but I do know one thing: I had no idea New 'N Tasty was on the Wii U, and I'm a HUGE Oddworld fan, and I'm pretty much aware of every single game released on consoles and every non-shovelware release on PC these days. I think it is indeed indicative of a problem.

But of course, everyone in this thread is content with stirring up drama over words that were clearly not meant to be insulting, calling Lanning's games bad even though they enjoyed acclaim by both criticd and consumers and ignoring the fact that yes, third party support wasn't hot in the latter half of the Wii's lifespan and absolute poo during the Wii U years.

Clearly third party support is once again going to be a challenge on the Switch. I don't know if it will cause major problems for the system, because we don't have enough information at this point, but could we all please stop putting our heads and the sand and pretending this issue doesn't exist?

Re: Sledgehammer Games Has a Definitive Answer on Call of Duty: WWII for Nintendo Switch - "No"

TheGameSquid

No real surprise here. I always thought it was genuinely surprising how the Wii and Wii U continued to receive CoD ports. But they stopped bothering altogether with AW, BLOPSIII and IW, so here we are. Personally I'd be seriously surprised if we see the IW Engine supporting the Switch. Considering the lukewarm reception of BLOPS: Declassified, I think most of us will agree that this game probably doesn't fit the portable format all that well anyway, and as such it doesn't really come as a surprise.

As someone who doesn't like CoD and only plays FPS games on the PC, I'm not too bothered, though obviously it's yet another sign of weak 3rd party support on the system, and that's always bad.

Re: Video: Let's See What Star Fox 2 Might Offer on the Super NES Classic Edition

TheGameSquid

I actually dig Star Fox 2. Yeah, it's not quite as cool as the first one, but I had fun with it, and I do enjoy playing games that push older hardware its limits.

But like I said, I strongly doubt it will be much different than the English ROM we've had for years now. The changes likely won't amount to a much different experience. I wouldn't count on a much better translation either.

Re: Editorial: The Frustrating Quest for a SNES Mini is Bad Business for Nintendo

TheGameSquid

@davetheshrew
Well, yeah? Just to be clear, I honestly couldn't care less about this, probably wouldn't pick it up if it was 10$. My primary frustration is that this internet drama seems to be convincing that this thing is worth it. People are free to spend their hard money however they want, I totally respect that, but I just think it's good to caution people into not spending 60$ (or more) on this thing. Just my opinion, and just my personal recommendation. I'd personally find it horrible if some kid asks this as a birthday present or something, only to find out he's getting what his PC/SNES/Wii/Wii U/3DS already does, only better (and for purists: the last four are "official" options).

@Grandpa_Pixel
Sure, I get that, but I like to wait and see how much different this version is from prototype ROM we've had for quite a while. Either way, someone will dump the ROM soon enough, and then we'll all be able to play it anyway.

Re: Former Metroid Prime Designers Talk About What They Want From A New Metroid Game

TheGameSquid

@devlind
Well first of all, only Metroid and Super Metroid did that. Metroid II was pretty linear.

Second, Metroid has mostly been about navigating an elaborate labyrinth were either puzzles or lack of proper items blocked your progress. I l'm very curious to see how one would go about implementing the classic Metroidvania formula in a classic Open World game. In most open world games, getting from point A to point B is as simple as walking a on a direct line between the two. Clearly, that is not what Metroid is about. It's item-based progression mechanisms would similary be very hard to implement in very large worlds. At the very least I can't really come up with games that have done this effectively.

Third, there's the issue of the classic Metroid feel. I think it's very hard to pull that off as well as Metroid, Super Metroid and Prime did in a large, open environment. Much like the Souls games, Samus as a protaginst often takes on the role thats often more akin to an archeologist than a all powerful superhero. Enviromental detail is an essential storytelling device in both series. Once again, this is hard to do in a large scale environment.

And finally, do we REALLY need more open world games? The genre has been responsible for a large amount of homoginization of games in the AAA parts of the industry (looking at you Ubisoft). I would be wise for the classic Nintendo games to retain their personality, rather than getting lost in the sea of "me-too" games.

That's just how I feel about it of course.

Re: Sega Forever Launch Marred By Terrible Emulation

TheGameSquid

Just gave Comix Zone a shot a few minutes ago, and yeah, it's indeed pretty terrible. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of slowdown, but frames are CONSTANTLY dropped.

Also, upon opening a game, it starts by saying "Connecting...". Not sure what the hell its connecting to. Then it says "LOAD FAILED". Once again not sure what it failed to load.

Anyway yeah, don't bother with it in its current state.

@mikegamer
Unity works just fine. I don't like using it personally, but I would definitely give it a go if I was making a professional game full-time. It has just gotten a bad name because it has been used by many incompetent developers because of its low barrier to entry (tech-wise and money-wise). I'm pretty sure Unity is basically used as the front end here, a bit like RetroArch is a front-end to the libretro cores. The emulators themselves aren't built within Unity (at least I hope...)

Re: Former Metroid Prime Designers Talk About What They Want From A New Metroid Game

TheGameSquid

Nope, I really don't like the proposed ideas here, and they don't mesh well with what makes Metroid so unique IMO.

Furthermore, de Prime subseries is basically defined by its first person perspective. If we're going for a third person perspective, why bother even calling it Prime?

Let's hope the devs who are working / going to work on this aren't just eager to ride the bandwagon of BotW's commercial and critical succes.

Re: Sega Forever Launch Marred By Terrible Emulation

TheGameSquid

Well, I was wondering yesterday what the comment regarding Unity could mean, cause it confused me. Guess I got my answer now.

This is the umpteenth time where just doing it yourself is going to net yourself a better experience than using one of these "official emulation" methods.

Re: Sega Forever Aims To Revive The Company's Past On Mobile, But Could Come To Switch

TheGameSquid

Well, it was pretty obvious that this was going to be for smartphones, so no real surprise there. Obviously I won't bother with playing them on my phone. One piece of good news is that the price point is right at least! I'm not even thinking about playing with ads, but 2$ a pop sounds reasonable.

What's very disappointing is they're starting out with such a weak lineup. We've seen these games again and again and again and again...

I'd probably use this if it came to a console. Put it on the 3DS (though Saturn and DC aren't going to run on that system) or the Switch (if I ever buy one) and I might actually use it. Or just any other console or a PC for that matter. I'd definitely use it if they get around to releasing quality Saturn emulation.

The most important thing for them to do is keep adding games at a steady. New games every 2 weeks sounds good, as long as they keep that promise.
Another important factor is the split between regions. Will everyone get the same version? Will you be able to play import titles?, etc. If they're going to roll out Sonic at 50Hz again you can expect people to grab their emulators instead.

One comment has totally thrown me off though: they're talking about using Unity, which I don't quite follow. Specifically this part: "About 90% of the games so far are in Unity". Does that mean we're not talking about emulation here? Is the implication that these are from-scratch re-implementations of the games in Unity? That sounds completely ridiculous, especially considering they have the ambition to release DC and Saturn games. Or is he merely implying that the emulators use a front-end created with Unity? That seems the most logical answer, but that would be a really weird way of saying it. I don't quite know what to make of that comment tbh.

Re: Gallery: Take a Look at the Huge World and Weird Fashion of Xenoblade Chronicles 2

TheGameSquid

Haven't seen the treehouse presentation yet, but I'm not convinced on the character design. With each Xenoblade, the characters seem to be getting lamer and lamer. The protagonist is just Anime Kid Nr. 214 this time around. The anime tits are back in full force, and everybody seems to be wielding huge swords. Ugh...

Anyway, the look of the world did impress me though, so I'm still looking forward to this one.

Re: Remake of Metroid II, Metroid: Samus Returns, Announced for 3DS at E3

TheGameSquid

@slatanek
I don't want to sound too cynical or impolite, but if you are really that concerned about the Switch, maybe you just should have waited until it had a more solid lineup before buying one then?

Obviously the 3DS is lightyears behind technologically, but who cares? This is made in the Dream Team / Paper Jam engine, which was purpose-built for the 3DS? Who cares about horsepower?

And I'm sure people would play the shit out of it, but you know where even more people will play it? On the system with the larger install base, AKA the 3DS.

Don't get me wrong, I know you want the Switch you own to become a great platform, and I get that. But that's just part of buying into a system this early in its lifecycle. Plenty of cool games were announced for the Switch, so it'll probably be a worthwhile system to own at the end of 2017 / Start of 2018.

Re: Remake of Metroid II, Metroid: Samus Returns, Announced for 3DS at E3

TheGameSquid

I was a little concerned when I read that MercurySteam was involved (they haven't exactly been super-respectful when resurrecting previous franchises ahem), but seeing the game in motion left me with a great impression. Not 100% sold on the presentation yet (is it me or does Samus look a bit... off?), but I'm definitely giving this one the benefit of the doubt.

Definitely would have preferred 2D graphics over 3D, but we can't have it all now, can we?

Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch

TheGameSquid

@Gamer83
That's not ENTIRELY fair to be honest. The PS4/XBONE versions are just ports of the same version. Developing a version for the Switch would mean developing a new version of the game on that hardware, considering the capabilities of that device. In fact, their engine/toolset (Luminous Studio), doesn't even target Nintendo hardware. That's not surprising considering the development history of the game. When development started, the Wii U was still a long way off. They already had to jump a whole console generation to the PS4/XBONE during development. What the hell do you expect at that point?

Nintendo made a clear point of going for underpowered hardware (which turned out just fine for the Wii and the 3DS for example), and missing out on multiplats is one of the consequences of that. I personally don't mind, that's what I have my PC and PS4 for, y'know.

Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch

TheGameSquid

Absolutely LOVING the salt in this thread. Especially those immediately writing it off as a "betrayal", "westernised version of MH", "Not the real thing", "Looks like Gear of War", "Dumbed down" etc.

We don't know anything about the game yet guys, chill out. Personally, I was sort of intrigued by the apparent focus on actual "hunting", with the stealth, tracking and camouflage. The only thing that really concerned me is the lack of any actual combat shown. That sort of suggests the project isn't that far along yet, so an early 2018 release may seem a bit weird.

Totally not bothered by this being on PC/XBO/PS4 (why the hell would I?). I'll play it at a nice crisp 60fps on my PC (if it turns out to be any good). The only thing that could really make me annoyed is Capcom not localising MHXX, and it certainly looks like it's going to be that way

Re: Rumour: Artwork for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Posted Online

TheGameSquid

Considering this was rumoured quite a long time ago, I'm not that surprised.

However, there are two things that I DO find strange:

1. According to the alleged leaks, this will be published by Ubisoft. That's kind of a shocker IMO. There are only so many Nintendo-character based games that I can think of that aren't published by Nintendo. The Mario + Sonic games were only published by Sega in Non-Japanese territories I think.

2. I'm honestly still quite surprised that they didn't choose Rayman instead of the Rabbids. At least the guy starred in plenty of games of the same genre as Mario, and he regained some of his credibility lately with the awesome Origins and Legends. You'd think people would at least remember him more fondly than the Rabbids.

@Smokingspoon
This is probably stuff internal to Ubisoft (not Nintendo), I'm guessing an early draft.

Re: Video: Get Warmed Up for Ever Oasis With This Overview Trailer

TheGameSquid

@TruthfulVoice
Not entirely sure what your point is here. If you're saying that Nintendo should put more effort into the Switch like it should have done for the Wii U, I agree. If you're saying that you think they should do this by abandoning the 3DS, I strongly disagree.

I honestly don't quite know why Code Name S.T.E.A.M. tanked, but can you honestly say it's more unfit for a handheld than a Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest or Shin Megami Tensei title? Those seem to do just fine on the 3DS. Maybe the Japanese audience didn't quite take to the art style? Maybe they figured it was a game for Western audiences? Maybe they didn't like that the game wasn't part of an established franchise? I don't know.

Personally, I use my 3DS to play for both short and long bursts. I take a 55 minute train and 15 minute bus twice every day to get to work, and I can open up my 3DS during either of those moments, maybe depending a little on the game. Just yesterday I was playing Devil Survivor Overclocked on the bus. The game does require some grinding, so I just open up my 3DS, do a quick battle, and close it when I'm done. That's what's so nice about the sleep function. There's plenty of students on my bus, and I've seen quite a few of them playing Pokemon for 15 minutes. Similarly, I find it just as fun to play with my 3DS in bed for 3 hours straight on a cold winter day.

Re: Hyperkin's RetroN HD Runs NES Games In 720p, Arrives Later This Month

TheGameSquid

We've seen a dozen or so of these systems, and they're usually not worth the price. If you want software emulation, just play it on your PC. If you want hardware emulation, buy a RetroUSB AVS. Thats still the one to beat in terms of price/quality IMO.

For this price point, I'm assuming it'll once again be an emulation machine. Seems too cheap for an FPGA.

At least it'll be interesting to see what licenses Hyperkin is going to violate this time around.

Re: Cemu Wii U Emulator Version 1.7.5 Shows Daunting Progress With Zelda: Breath of the Wild

TheGameSquid

@PlywoodStick
Thanks Plywood for your consistent comments on this site. My english isn't always good and I'm bad at talking about things that pertain to the law, but your comments at least always make sense.

And yes, I do agree with you about the Patreon part. I don't think it's a bad idea PER SE, just that I don't like giving it out to a non-FOSS project.

And for the record, in case anyone doubts this, I buy all my games legally whenever possible (For example, if yabouse ever gets to the point where it's capable of playing something like Panzer Dragoon Saga, I may have to make a little exception. I just don't have 600$ sitting in my pocket to spend on random eBay crap). I have a pretty big collection for someone of my age and monetary capacities.

Re: Cemu Wii U Emulator Version 1.7.5 Shows Daunting Progress With Zelda: Breath of the Wild

TheGameSquid

@Kalmaro
Also, the reason why people refer to EULAs not being legally binding is because Nintendo offers the sort of EULA that is hard to opt-out. For example, I buy a 3DS in a retail store, I pay $150 dollars, and when I get home, I literally have no choice but to accept the EULA before using the system, otherwise I cannot use the product I legally purchased. No EULA was presented upon purchase. This is why these things SOMETIMES get tossed aside in court.

Furthermore, a EULA is NOT above the law. Whatever is written in a EULA does NOT matter if the law states otherwise. Nintendo does NOT get to decide what is legal and what is not.

Re: Cemu Wii U Emulator Version 1.7.5 Shows Daunting Progress With Zelda: Breath of the Wild

TheGameSquid

Why is it that every time the concept of emulators comes up, every single NintendoLife user starts complaining and throwing accusations at the authors of the project?

I take it every single one of you refuses to purchase a VC title from Nintendo, because OBVIOUSLY emulation is disgusting? People were clamoring to buy a piece of plastic junk like the NES Mini, which is essentially a 10$ emulation machine without the advanced features of an emulator. But apparently, those things are okay then?

CEMU and pretty much all other emulators are 100% legal products. They are wonderful projects made by smart people. What people don't seem to understand is that by the time a game like Breath of the Wild reaches a high point of compatibility, there won't be any way to even give "give money to the developers" (which is ridiculous to begin with, as your money does not even go to the actual developer). The Wii U has already been taken out of production. Just a few more years, and the only place you can buy a physical copy of BotW is on second hand stores.

Ten years from now, when you want to play BotW and your actual Wii U is broken (cause you can't send it to Nintendo to repair it, obviously), this might be a nice option.

The ONLY actual problem I have with CEMU is that it's not open source. It's a Freemium application distributed under a proprietary license, and that's a real darn shame. I definitely won't be a Patreon supporter to a non-FOSS product. However, a I do chuck 5$ at the mGBA dev every month. Great project!

(Also, guys, EULAs are worthless)

Re: Video: Check Out This Early Footage of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

TheGameSquid

This isn't doing it for me. Environments looks really bland and lack any personality, the animation is passable but looks a little stiff (I think the transitions aren't exactly smooth), and it's more than a little disheartening that this is what they're showing off one year after the end of the Kickstarter. This looks like a basic prototype of the platforming that could've been put together in 3 weeks or so.

I didn't back it so I don't mind, but I hope backers are pleased with this more than I am.

Re: Video: Get a Closer Look at Genei Ibun Roku #FE Gameplay and GamePad Usage

TheGameSquid

I'm still interested in the game, but what I still find incredibly annoying is that this was initially announced as a crossover between SMT and Fire Emblem, but this now looks like a Persona game instead of a mainline SMT game with some FE characters thrown into the mix. This should have been announced as Persona X Fire Emblem, as I think that would have been more accurate. I was definitely not expecting high-school antics and J-Pop in this game, and I admit that it's quite disappointing.

I know I'm one of the few people out there that don't like it, but ever since Persona made the stylistic switch in Persona 3 it's probably been my least favorite SMT series out there. I don't like the style, I don't like the music, I don't like the plots, and I most certainly don't like the dreadfully boring randomly generated dungeons. How there won't be any of those in here (the random dungeons). This looks more and more like a Persona spin-off, which doesn't please me at all.

Still hoping for a European release though. What are the odds I wonder . Also I still think it's absolutely ridiculous that we have to worry about that in this day and age.

(I actually did kinda like Persona Q though)

Re: First Impressions: Kirby Wii

TheGameSquid

@WaveBoy
Not to disrespect your opinion, but I don't really get why you're so sure this will be so much better than NSMBWii, which you say is "uncreative, generic and completely played it safe". I think this looks awesome, but this looks like a total rehash too. It looks like every Kirby game since Super Star with awesome visuals. That's it. And judging from previous Kirby games, level design won't be above "okay" level and there also won't be much of a challenge. NSMBWii was weak from a presentation standpoint, but nailed everything. Incredible Single Player, hilarious Multi Player, godlike controls, delightful level design, hours upon hours of pure gameplay, an amazing balance between challenging and accessible gameplay (to me NSMBWii is the perfect game for the so called "Casual Player" and NOT games like Wii Sports) and those delicious star coins. I don't know how much more you can expect from a platformer. It seems like this one at least has an AWFUL lot of shoes to fill...

Still, purchasing this one as soon as I can though!

Re: Games Do More Damage Than Passive Smoking, says Doctor

TheGameSquid

Yeah, and I think red is prettier than a car. If you want to have a serious discussion about this, they better start making comparisons that make sense instead of making them sound sensational. Don't get me wrong, I understand the comparison he's making, but what's the point here? Undoubtedly the ties between people who own a car and people who interested in owning a car are extremely strong. What does that tell us? Let me put it bluntly: a lot of young boys are interested in violence one way or another (take a slightly more abstract view if you will), so is it really all that surprising that those kids also play "violent" games, and at the same time display "violent" behaviour? Not to me. Studies have also shown that playing video games have had a very positive effect on children's ability to solve problems. Does that mean all games are positive for children? No. If there's one thing I'm sick and tired of, it's approaching sociological problems with statistics, just so you can catch a headline or two.

And while I know that it's just a stupid comparison he's making here, it's worth pointing out of course that cancer isn't the only reason you should smoke. There are many more negative side-effects to smoking, so the cancer comparison isn't a good one, since it doesn't show a good "use vs. damage caused" relation.

Re: WiiWare, Fez Developer Does Not Like You At All

TheGameSquid

@Yasume
How very mature of you. The game's not coming to your favourite console? Then it must suck! If you had actually followed the development of Fez you probably wouldn't have said this. The game now boasts an incredible (and quite revolutionary, I might add) game engine, absolutely stunning graphics and a soundtrack that seems to be worth the price of the game alone. Everyone that has had some hands on time with the game so far seems to have liked it to some extent (most were blown away), and while this is in no way proof that the game will succeed, it seems to be an indication that it will. The game has performed quite well in the IGF too. It's been extremely high on my most anticipated list ever since it was first announced (which, unfortunately, was a LONG time ago).

Now, I can understand that people react negatively to Fish's odd behaviour. His secrecy about the game has made me angry quite a few times as well. But can you in all honesty claim that you DON'T understand his reaction? This is about someone who's simply trying to make a living out of making videogames, and Nintendo is effectively making sure he can't do this via their console. Whatever Nintendo's stance REALLY is, there is no mistaking that WiiWare itself is set up in a way to absolutely discourage indie developers from attempting to put their game on the service. And he's sort of correct about the no-demo part. If you don't have a 360 or a PS3 you might not understand this, but every single game on Xbox Live Arcade has a demo. It's required by Microsoft. Say whatever you want about MS, but the way they set up XBLA this generation (with its international releases and mandatory demos) is great. On WiiWare, there's a faint possibility that there will be a demo. I don't even think the developers have a whole lot to say about that. If Nintendo wants a demo, they'll take care of it in an awkward way. If they don't, well... tough luck! So in theory, Fish doesn't really have the ability to put a demo on the service. And having a demo for your game can be EXTREMELY important for an indie developer. Developing an indie game without publishing a demo is basically the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot.

We all know that the Wii could have been the ultimate Retro machine. The Virtual Console and the GameCube Backward Compatibility means the game covers the entire history of Nintendo home consoles. Because so many Retro gamers were interested in the Wii, WiiWare could have been the ultimate home for new, yet retro-styled games that couldn't appear on retail shelves. Since Fez does seem to have those "New Retro" aesthetics and design ideologies, WiiWare could have been a great place to deploy Fez. And this makes it even more frustrating for developers like Polytron to see the service in such bad shape. And it saddens me too.

Re: WiiWare Super Meat Boy Gets Canned

TheGameSquid

I made a small mistake in my previous post, SMB is now indeed under a NO-PS3 contract by MS according to the developer, my apologies for that. But this is of course AFTER Sony passed on them the first time around, so you can hardly blame MS for that. I'm curious why the hell Sony did pass on the game though. Team Meat managed to invoke quite a lot of attention when it was first announced.

Re: WiiWare Super Meat Boy Gets Canned

TheGameSquid

Guys, please read all the comments before posting. Everyone has said about a billion times that game was never even a WiiWare exclusive to begin with. Team Meat themselves stated specifically that they wanted to deploy the game on various consoles, and we all know XBLA is one of the prime interests for Indies. I in fact always assumed that the game was going to hit XBLA first.

I'm sure Team Meat did all they could to bring this game to Wii without cutting it to pieces. Those who have the 360 version like me know that they are very consumer friendly. They were the very first company that signed a deal with Microsoft to instantly put their game on sale in the first week of its sale, and they also managed to bypass Microsoft's harsh DLC rules so they can regularly update the game with FREE DLC. They are only a two-man team, so you can be sure these guys are willing to fight for their game.

On a technical side, I do think Nintendo restricts WiiWare games to 40Mb in actual size on the hard-drive, not just the download. SMB is only a 90Mb download, but it's much larger when it's sitting uncompressed on the hard drive. It would probably suck up half of your space on the Wii. I think Nintendo doesn't allow the ACTUAL size of the game on the drive to go over 40Mb either, but I could be wrong there. Many people here complain about the fact that Team Meat was "too lazy to deal with those restrictions". I don't think they were too lazy, but perhaps they were unwilling. If I was a small independent team I'm not sure if I was going to gut my game just to launch my game on an overtly restrictive download service. What's the point in the end? However, the fact that they even tried to deploy the game as a retail release clearly shows that they were absolutely willing to go pretty far to put their game on the system. How many developers have you seen who were willing to take such a risk? How many TWO-MAN developers have you seen who were willing to take such a risk? Right.

To those who are holding back into buying the game into 360, I want to say, go right ahead. At first I wasn't sure that I would want to play it with the 360 controller either (because of the D-Pad), but it turns out that SMB is quite heavily reliant on analogue controls. Both the movement AND jumping in SMB are analogue, and it's sometimes actually important to passing levels. After playing it a lot I'm actually quite convinced that they game would probably not play as good on the Wii as it would on the 360. But that's all hypothetical of course.

The ones that don't own a 360 should buy the game on PC. I don't like Steam all that much either, but the game is so good you probably want to make an exception here. You can use the (fantastic) 360 gamepad to play the game. Even I can play the game on the PC, and my PC can't play most games made after 2003. So basically everyone can play it.

The technical problems on the 360 are also extremely minor, it's just something with some autosaves not working which is extremely easy to avoid if you read up on the bug. The developers know precisely when it occurs I believe. Don't let that hold you back.

And the entire "Evil Micro$oft Contract of Devilish Exclusiveness" comments sound pretty misinformed either. The game is out on PC. Doesn't seem all that exclusive to me. And would they even by TRYING to put the game on the Wii if they were under such a contract? I think they probably signed a one-month exclusive contract so MS could launch it in their Game Feast promotion as a temporary exclusive. And if MS managed to give them a much more comfortable contract, perhaps Nintendo should show indie teams a little more love?

Anyway, I think people should be more careful before insulting a team of two extremely dedicated developers who have worked extremely hard these past few years to bring us this superb game. Please get a little more informed before making such harsh comments (I'm sure it really hurts the developers if they were to read some of the comments here, especially because a lot of them sound extremely unfair). I'm sure they are also very sad that they can't put the game on the Wii. But that's how it is.
