Re: MotoGP Could Be Coming To Nintendo Switch, But Not Until Next Year

TJM

This looks decent - I do like driving really fast while sitting on my sofa. Tend to prefer more rally type / chaotic driving games to this - but good to hear.

Hopefully the underlying message - that they haven't had the resources for long enough so next year is the time for their Switch entry - applies to a good few other 3rd party devs.

Re: The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game is Coming To Nintendo Switch

TJM

Is it coming to Wii U? Sorry - being lazy not to check myself.

Just got a Wii U for my 5 year old and he would love it!!

No way I'm getting him a Switch as he has a very 'active' 2 year old brother too. Maybe if they made an impenetrable plastic box to lock down the console in docked mode!

Re: Nintendo Announces Super NES Classic Edition

TJM

@maceng Agree that 5 feet is still too short.

The thing that had me wondering - and Gamexplain are saying the same thing - is that the controller ports look like dummies. So where do they plug in - in the back? That makes the cords even shorter - and it would look all sorts of wrong.

Maybe it's just a 3D mock up. Strange though.

Re: Guide: Where to Pre-Order Your Super NES Classic Edition

TJM

@AlexioC HA ha! Cheers dude, no, I won't be cancelling. Spent many hours refreshing twitter and various e shops for the NES classic to no avail. And this one looks far tastier.

I wasn't going to get it as I'm pretty skint but I mentioned it to my wife who just said - what's 80 quid in the grand scheme of things? So I ran upstairs and pre-ordered imidiately! True love!

Mind you she'll love it more than me - she's miles better at old school games than I am having owned a NES when she was 8 - and this looks to have many classics.

Hope you get one too - thanks for the info - much appreciated.

Re: Guide: Where to Pre-Order Your Super NES Classic Edition

TJM

@AlexioC @XenoShaun Thanks guys, I pre-ordered one about 45 mins after the system was anounced and got a confirmation email so hopefully that means it will work out.

Have never pre-ordered anything before so unsure how it works - i.e. will it be delivered - I haven't paid for that? Will they contact me about it soon?

Not overly worried about the timescale - I can wait to get it - I've only ever played a few of the games a few times (bar street fighter in arcades) so a few extra weeks or months won't worry me too much. Just really hope it works out - it looks like a stellar roster! Pity no Sensible Soccer - that would have made my 30's.

Re: Random: Here's The Reason Why The North American Super NES Looks So Different

TJM

Pre-ordered this at Game earlier. I had an Amiga when I was young and always really liked the look of the SNES (cool Euro version) that a few of my mates had. It has a sleek, 'functional futuristic' vibe. Super refined and designed for it's purpose.

It make sense that the U.S is the altered / bastardised version. The placement of everything is way off - it looks like an early prototype. It's front loaded and the colour scheme it really flat. Sure the Euro one is mostly grey - but 3 different shades - and it has that lovely 4 colour logo highlight at the back.

Plus, what is that corrugated bottom section supposed to be for - it looks like it's sitting in a takeaway carton.

Re: Guide: Where to Pre-Order Your Super NES Classic Edition

TJM

Got my pre-order in at Game within about 45 mins of going live. Hope they have enough stock.

Might end up giving it to my niece for Christmas if her Mam doesn't get one - sent link but she's dithering. She asked Santa for a NES last year but her parents couldn't get one and she was totally gutted!

Re: Thankfully, Europe Is Getting A More Handsome SNES Classic Mini

TJM

I spent ages refreshing various sites for as often as I could for months - trying to buy a NES classic for me and my niece - this looks absolutely great but I just really hope they have made enough to make it fairly easy to buy.

I know scalpers will buy as many as they can get their hands on after NES classic - I just hope they make enough.

Can't be arsed with a wild goose chase again. But it looks amazing!

Re: More Rumours Add Weight to Talk of a SNES Classic Mini

TJM

@RadioHedgeFund Don't write off the NES dude. My wife's sister and family came to stay this weekend and all her eldest boy (10 years old, Xbox 1 owner) wanted to do was to sit and play Mario 1 - the only game that works on my wife's old NES.

He said, and I quote 'this is better than Xbox'! I don't think for a second he's swap - but Forza Horizon is his big game and I think he loved it because it's such a different proposition. The precision and perfectly pitched challenge of Mario really surprised him I think.

My wife and me sat and played it all night after the kids went to bed and we're both still amazed at how well put together it is.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surge Past A Million In Japan

TJM

@Filth_Element Yep, so much white noise on the boards right now. Bickering does no one any favours - especially the addicts.

Good to focus on the Nintendo related news and opinion - there is so much substantial and intriguing stuff happening / not happening yet. Fun times to be a fan of Nintendo games!

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surge Past A Million In Japan

TJM

@frogopus I really agree with your points and they seem to take in the broad idea of the system and why it exsists.

However I just wanted to add that the compromises that the Switch makes are just different compromises to the other consoles. Namely that it's portable and they are not - we're just not used to thinking like this so it seems like an outlier.

Nintendo is changing the conversation and the way we think about playing game again.

Re: Codemasters Hasn't Completely Ruled Out Bringing Micro Machines To Nintendo Switch

TJM

@QuickSilver88 Really good point about the Switch selling to different types of gamers. I'm an example of that - not owned a console in years - last was Gamecube - and Amiga before that. But I love video games - especially Nintendo games.

Switch is SO tempting for me but I have a young family. I have bought us all a Wii U as it's more robust and there are some brilliant multiplayer games suited to younger kids - but I'll be moving them onto the Switch as soon as is reasonable.

Might have to buy one for myself and just hide it!

The line up in a few years is going to be seriously strong!! Switch will have:
Zelda BOTW, Mario Kart D, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids, Mario O, Xenoblade, Metroid 4, Pikmin 4, Smash Bros, Pokemon ?, Animal Crossing . . . and the rest - Plus a ton of sweet indie games.

You're right about this being a good moment to get good games out for it - there is some serious completion coming.

Re: Codemasters Hasn't Completely Ruled Out Bringing Micro Machines To Nintendo Switch

TJM

I loved this game for the Amiga back in the day. Almost as much as I loved Super Cars 2!

The graphics are interesting in the way they're using a shallow depth of field to get across the 'micro' look of it. Gameplay looks a little soft but it's hard to tell without playing. Really good use of destructible / interactive environments would be great for this game.

Hopefully it wouldn't be much of an issue technically. I just think maybe people build stuff for PC / PS4 / Xbox because it's easy to group them - and then think about nintendo consoles afterwards because they're in a different bracket technically.

I'd be really surprised if this didn't come to Switch - just when.

Re: Nintendo Aims to Keep Switch Hot With 'Drumbeat' of Games and Strength of Concept

TJM

@JunkRabbit Thanks dude. You made an interesting point at the end there. Definitely worth remembering that this activity means different things to different people.

I'm certainly guilty of feeding negative posts with replies - just hard to resist sometimes when it gets so monotonous.

People use boats for there own reasons I guess - and different voices can be good in provoking debate - as long as it's semi rational! I like it on here though - seems like an interesting bunch for the most part. Go Nintendo is good too.

Good time to be into Nintendo anyway - lots more to come too!

Re: Nintendo Aims to Keep Switch Hot With 'Drumbeat' of Games and Strength of Concept

TJM

@impurekind Dude, I don't mean to pour cold water on your approach. I think we just have different ways of seeing these message boards - and maybe different reasons for coming here.

I'm happy to admit that I'm a fan of Nintendo - I think they're a great company because there is nothing like them. I love their games and enjoy celebrating what is brilliant about the things they make and the fun that people have with them. However, I don't think they're perfect and I'm very happy for people to push them to do better and hold them to account.

If that's what you want to do , great - seems like a good mission. But I suggest doing it yourself rather than thinking others have the same agenda. A few suggestions:

If you want to get a message across to them then keep it concise and clear. Choose a few of the most important things you feel need to change and focus on those.

Contact them directly via twitter and post on a variety of message boards.

Keep it constructive - they're working to please their fans remember - but they can't do everything at once. Ranting and relentless whining just makes people sound out of touch and unreasonable - and basically irrelevant.

Good luck to you.

Re: Nintendo Aims to Keep Switch Hot With 'Drumbeat' of Games and Strength of Concept

TJM

@impurekind Dude, this is a Nintendo fan message board. It's a bit of fun where we can chat, hear different opinions and say our piece - and maybe even connect with others.

Grumpy kegs isn't whining and sniping for the good of anybody but his own need for attention and his amusement. He's low level trolling in a very easy going space - because it's entertaining for him to mix it up and it gives people something to bat against. No harm done, it's just a bit of fun. Maybe I should thank him for that.

I'm sure Nintendo survey online chat to some extent - but don't kid yourself that they're are steering their ship to the beat of the Nintendolife message boards though. If only!

Re: Editorial: Nintendo Switch is About Colour, Fun and Sharing Games, For Those Unsure of Its Purpose

TJM

@Mii_duck Agree - well said.

It's easy to pick holes in anything that has been brought to market - because the process of doing so involves so many layered factors and choices - there will always be lots of compromises. Some of them solvable in time after release - some baked into the product and service by design.

And the fact that it's a product and service with a group of people who bought into the last thing you made - and bring their own very individual expectations - complicates it even further.

But Nintendo are a beacon of a company that stands out, not for being perfect, or flawless, or the most consistent. But for believing in their own core reason for being , having the guts and integrity to stake their reputation on creative risks and constantly re-imagining how to inspire their customers.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo Switch is About Colour, Fun and Sharing Games, For Those Unsure of Its Purpose

TJM

@PAHTK It's kind of a bummer - the attention devoted to those posts on this site. Maybe it's because it's a mostly reasonable, discursive group and his comments jar with the generally reasonable tone.

I think some people think they're contributing critically - and inscisively - even boldly - but they're really just trolling under false pretences. I guess it's valuable for some to get attention of any kind.

I don't like to ignore people generally but I also don't want to continue to be part of the problem - may well use it at some point.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo Switch is About Colour, Fun and Sharing Games, For Those Unsure of Its Purpose

TJM

@electrolite77 Really like and agree with this comment. It really gets to the core of why I think the Switch is connecting with people - and why it will gradually become a very strong and super compelling package.

Its good to read comments that take a constructive view of the wider subject and aims - as opposed to some that prefer just listing a bunch of spoilt excuses to grouch and get self esteem from notoriety.

Switch is heading in a really exciting direction. Bold decisions have been made with some fairly large compromises being risked on the core concept of a console that fits around your life. I think it's a striking move by Nintendo that will pay off big time.

Re: EA is Focused on Nintendo Switch Portability and "Exploring Other Products"

TJM

@NEStalgia Dude, don't you think Nintendo are positioning the Switch as 'not in the same space as the other consoles'? Have you seen their advertising?

EA just want to make money - they're not going nterested in 'supporting' the Switch - why should they if it doesn't suit them?

Their customer base is planted firmly in the 'traditional high powered home console' bracket. People who place a lot of value on latest graphical fidelity and bells and whistles. They're just trying to sell the idea of the Switch to those folks so they can sell them another version of the game.

Re: Reggie "Can't Say" If A Cloud Save Solution Is Coming To Switch

TJM

@k8sMum Sure but Nintendo wants it to be sewn up. They don't want accidents happening - they know a massive core of their audience is young gamers and the confidence of their parents.

There are surely other reasons for them using a phone - practical hardware priorities.

But Nintendo will continue to make chat awkward for kids and adult alike.
