Milestone's MotoGP 17 hit retail this month on PS4 and Xbox One, but there was no Switch version. While you might assume this is simply business as usual given Nintendo's on-off relationship with many third-party studios, Milestone has actually stated that it's keen to bring the racing series to Switch.
Speaking to Red Bull Games, lead programmer Michele Caletti said that a Switch version of the '18 entry is possible:
MotoGP 17 is on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Was Nintendo Switch ever a consideration for the game? What about for next year?
MotoGP 17 is the last title made with our in-house engine. Future titles might also be available on Switch, thanks to the support of Unreal Engine, so it's something possible from the next year on.
The development kits for Switch have been available during the late development phase of MotoGP, thus all the assets and game modes have been created without Switch in mind. Porting it now would end up with something that would not satisfy us and our users. We prefer to concentrate our efforts on building a great Switch version for the next chapter of the series.

Let me guess, they're fans of Switch, excited by it but only currently looking into it as a possibility.
I'm not a fan of MotoGP or F1. But the more games the Switch gets, the better. I'd rather see a new Burnout game myself.
This looks decent - I do like driving really fast while sitting on my sofa. Tend to prefer more rally type / chaotic driving games to this - but good to hear.
Hopefully the underlying message - that they haven't had the resources for long enough so next year is the time for their Switch entry - applies to a good few other 3rd party devs.
@NewAdvent Could use right stick for this?
Eh...
Not a fan of Realistic racing games.
I still stick on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
More games coming the better
Kudos to them making an honest response. This year is bad on third parties mainly due to them getting devkits like barely a year ago even if that.
Would prefer them make the game with the console in mind than do a late overpriced botched port.
Saying that. Not a fan of the series.
@XenoShaun Exactly this. Let the 3rd parties come next year. Let them have the chance to work on it and make fantastic AAA titles worth our money rather than titles that give us regret. Nintendo is already doing good enough on the Switch this year and the current 3rd party is good as well. I'd rather 2018 was rammed with fantastic titles than 2017 was rammed with terrible ones.
Quite like these games, but would prefer them a bit more arcadey, with spectacular, over-the-top crashes, limbs flailing everywhere, but riders determinedly dragging themselves back on to the bike whatever legless/headless state they're in.
Never played this series. Kinda interested, but can there ever be a motorcycle racing game more fun or relaxing than Super Hang-on for the Genesis?
Their games don't have best handling/physics but I'd buy a switch version next year.
This is such a non-statement. "Not coming now, maybe next year".
That's a legit reason, can't blame them of they're not satisfied with the end result.
@NewAdvent I can imagine some perks of variable acceleration input allowed by analogue triggers, but I can't imagine it being a make-or-break feature in the genre that was born way before analogue triggers (I recall playing the hay out of F1 World Championship on Sega Mega Drive back in the day myself) and has appeared on many platforms without them, like Gran Turismo on PSP.
Perhaps what you pine for will happen later down the road in a separate JC edition or something, though.
I could be into that. Just wow me and we'll see.
Developer: We are going to release our game on Switch.
Me: look at game trailer.
Also me: Yeah that ain't going to run on Switch. Way too much physics for the tablet to handle. Keep dreaming.
He being perfectly honest. Nothing wrong saying that this year would see the game rushed out.
Anyway the switch not having analogue triggers is a major problem for s bike simulation
@SLIGEACH_EIRE That was a pretty up front and positive response actually. No need to be so jaded.
I would absolutely kill for MotoGP on the Switch! In fact, as of right now being a new father and with my heavy commute (2 hours from Long Island to NYC) the only gaming I do is on my Switch. For me the only thing that I personally want is a proper racing game... Mario Kart 8 isn't scratching my racing itch like i had hoped.
And before I get flamed for "Switch has no analog triggers", I played Gran Turismo 1 on PS1, MotoGP 13 and 14 as well as F1 2011 on my Vita without analog triggers and I had no problem adjusting to different braking zones and throttling out of corners... yeah I get it, you can't trail brake and back the bike into a corner... i got over it. Besides, Switch has motion controls that I think would absolutely benefit a MotoGP game on the machine. I can only hope that this time next year I'll be playing MotoGP 18 on my commute.
@NewAdvent It's far simpler than you are imagining it to be. How much you want to accelerate or decelerate is based on how far forwards or backwards you tilt.
@NewAdvent nah I do not think so as Nintendo have avoided using analogue triggers since the GameCube. For some unknown reason Nintendo hate analogue triggers!
@kobashi100 You're absolutely right.. but It seems like Nintendo is finally listening to its fans this time around. It's as if they have someone reading through every forum and making changes on the go as people "want" or complain lol. I really wouldn't be surprised if they release a Joy Con Pro with analog triggers in the future.
Interesting...
I'm OK with this logic. The Switch is on a roll now. Wait and make great games with no issues. Don't rush.
I have no use for trailers without gameplay...
@bluedogrulez a majority of the on bike footage was gameplay
I prefer the F1 games to this but I'm up for any real racing game
The more I think about it, how cool would it be when in table top mode you could use the joy cons almost like actual hand grips on a bike... need throttle, twist your right wrist back... need front brake, left stick up...gear shift up/down could be left and right triggers. turning would actually have to be turning both joy cons like a handle bar. It would be kinda cool... especially in helmet cam.
I've loved the Milestone bike road racing games since SBK, MotoGP and Ride. Ride 2 in particular is the dogs.
Trouble is, I turn off all driver and physics aids from the start, so it's full on physics, realistic handling and AI with no traction control or anti-wheelie. Good analogue triggers are essential for fine throttle and brake control. These are bikes after all. Playing these games on full sim settings and getting it right is sublime. So rewarding.
Trouble is I can't see this working the same way on Switch. Perhaps I could adjust to using the right stick, perhaps not. My pie in the sky hope is that Nintendo allow you to connect an X-Input wired controller to the dock by USB, such as one of my PC 360 pads.
Otherwise it's back to the old school using microtaps to control the throttle input. I've been trying Gear.Club on mobile and microtaps on the throttle can be sketchy with no driver aids. It's manageable though and I prefer to play it that way. Will be interesting when it comes to Switch.
Anyway, so stoked Milestone are looking at Switch, but concerned that the controls and handling will be dumbed down for digital inputs. Who am I kidding, I'll probably pick it up regardless.
Also, their Street bike series (Ride 2) included actual road racing championship tracks like Ulster, the Northwest and Macau, so I'm dreaming of a TT game next. Bring the next Ride to Switch as well please.
Well, at least they're honest.
@mfranzese46 : there was maybe 5 seconds on onbike footage from the handbars. The tailpipe, footpedal and behind rider's back views were gameplay?!? Seems like replay to me.
I do like your idea about the joy con controls. That would be great.
@bluedogrulez ok... i watched it again... with the exception of the very first onboard shot, the rest is definitely replay. My bad.
I'll DEFINITELY play that on the Switch! I'll buy it for sure. Been craving a more realistic driving experience on Switch. I love me any type of racing experience.
I would like this on the switch I wouldn't mind it. Mario Kart is awesome...but it broke up my friends and I. Now I want a more of sim related racer...even if it has to be MotoGP.
Its rubbish anyways. Theyve forgotten how to make good Moto GP games. Absolutely no loss as we all know it wont arrive.
Played these games on vita, oh my talk about terrible handling and bad gameplay, not worth a purchase, shame I didn't take my own advice
Been waiting for a decent racing game. My money is on Gear coming up in September in the Eshop from Android market. It looks and feels like alot of fun.
PLEASE OH PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
Although seriously that is what i was hoping to hear from annual franchises "can't make 18 because of timing but will likely make 19" that is all I need.
No, that won't work as you can't operate gas and breaks independently.
@NinjaBadger
"Could use right stick for this?"
@BornInNorway81 yes it could work. In fact the original moto gp on the ps2 used this very control scheme.
Push stick to accelerate pull back to brake. Think remote control car.
Please read my post again; I said "independently". How do you accelerate and break simultaneously? You can't.
Nintendo said bye-bye to GameCube Virtual Console and third-party racing games by having triggers without pressure sensitivity on the Switch.
@NinjaBadger
"yes it could work. In fact the original moto gp on the ps2 used this very control scheme.

@BornInNorway81 do you even drive? No reason for accelerating and braking at the same time on a bike.
@NinjaBadger actually before the traction control got so sophisticated in MotoGP the riders would routinely "stand" on the rear brake while hard accelerating to reduce wheelies and increase stability... however this is a game, so no one is doing that lol.
