Re: Review: Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring The Legend of Zelda - A Beat-Based Wonder

Starcakes

I feel like it wasn't the best mix.

Both 2D LoZ and Necrodancer are great games, and the mix is perfectly enjoyable, but i don't think the strengths of each of them necesarily play to each other's favor.

Necrodancer worked well because of it's fast pace. The time limit naturally encouraged you to keep a steady beat, the extra gold was pivotal due to it's rouguelite nature, and exploring carried a risk/reward because of the time limit.

Here, your only real incentive to keep the beat is an extra diamond, and you'll soon be swimming in the damn things, rupees are similarly worthless because there are very few shops and you can't take two steps without stepping on a silver rupee.

Death also carries very little consequence, and hearts drop so much you'll have a hard time actually biting the dust.

It's clear the game made a lot of changes to accommodate de LoZ style, but IMO those concessions really hurt the Necro dancer experience. Without the rapidly escalating difficulty and high stakes, a lot of the excitement is gone.

As a LoZ game, well, the puzzles are very simplistic and dungeons aren't particularly interesting, i feel like it really should have been more CotN than LoZ.

It's a good and fun game, i just feel it could have been more. The music kicks ass tough.

@Galarian_Lassie Don't get me wrong, it's extremely low brow and awfuly prone to shock value and stuff like Animaniacs run laps around it. But there is a special kind of fondness reserved for toons that not only are still fun as you get older, but you actually learn to apreciate them more.

Sides, you can't really expect me not to have a certain affinity for the toon that taught me how to flip the bird can you?

It's crown jewel is the animation tough, it's absolutely amazing. The expressions, the movements...it's just amazing.

I agree on both She-ra remake and Steven ubermench. Modern animation has this awful trend of taking itself too seriously. Everyone wants to be like the last airbender, but no one seems to understand why that show was so good in the first place.

Only modern cartoons i have actually taken a shine to are Gravity falls and Star vs. and that's mostly because the humor consistently landed with me.

@Wavey84 Ren & Stimpy is the kind of brilliance that can only be obtained by having a clearly unstable content creator actively having a battle of wills with the censor board to have as much of it's jaded humor as possible. Both forces conter balance each other and the result is glorious.

Adult party was a stupid idea from the get go, without the limitations imposed by it's status as entertainment for kids, it just became another gross out, shock inducing "adult toon" in the bin. less looney toons and more Mr. Pickle.

The only time history allowed for another such perfect storm was Invader Zim, god, that show is wonderful.

I watched some 80's cheese fests trough the magic of old VHS, mainly TMNT, Thundercats and Captain N. And while they are perfectly enjoyable for a kid, they definetely lost all entertainment value as i grew older. It is evident those cartoons were made for the singular purpose of selling toys.

They do have a certain charm, but i couldn't possibly stomach watching them without some drinks and friends.

Re: Video: Here's How The Witcher 3 On Switch Compares To The PS4 Version

Starcakes

@NotoriousWhiz Do lower res assets and textures really make such a huge difference tough? maybe it's a combination of lower res assets and actual compression? those are still a lot of GB's tough...

I dunno, i know absolutely nothing of these matters, but there's just something fishy about storage this gen. Even old games take an obscene amount of storage these days.

RE4 is like 13 gb's, that is a game that was on the freaking PS2, you can't tell me there is no foul play.

@graysoncharles Screw them then, they are the reason my PS4 can't have more than 6 games installed, i swear to god it's the exact same thing as my Switch.

@Silly_G Snake had the Twin snakes which was a waaaay higher profile release than Persona Q2, not to mention he did, indeed, have history with Nintendo despite his main association with the Play station brand. Remember there were Metal gear games on NES.

Cloud is the only character that was a legit "Screw you" to the idea of newcomers needing to have any sort of presence on Nintendo systems. I mantain he has been the worse adition in smash, to date.

Re: Review: Collection of Mana - Expensive, But Ultimately Worth Every Penny

Starcakes

Seiken densetsu 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, it's exactly what a sequel should be, and it's superior to legend of mana in every conceivable way.

The price is rather high yes, but for me it's worth every single penny just to be free from the roms.

I already pre-ordered the physical release, and i worry i might not hold out and just buy the digtal version just to avoid waiting. I really can't help myself, the game brings me joy.

Also, pick Riesz!

@Xelha There is such a thing as objectively bad design.

Just because someone really likes Superman 64 it doesn't mean it is even comparatively better than Ocarina of Time.

I am not saying people can't enjoy or prefer pretty much anything, but there are objectively bad games, and objectively good ones as well.

Mind you, this is completely unrelated to the BotW discussion you were having, that little sentence just really bothered me.

There is a limit to subjectivity.

Re: Romancing SaGa 3 and SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions Are Being Localised

Would have pre-ordered these on the sly if I wasn't saving my pennies for the imminent Senkei densetsu 3 localization, god damn, I can't wait for it.

Squeenix finally realizing they are sitting on a pile of JRPG gold. Here's hoping we get more classics released, I would particularly like a port of FF tactics, Tactics ogre and Valkyrie profile.

@personauser93 Not that I know of, but AC being R&D1 I would be amazed if anything about it leaked.

There was also Spoilers! Spoilers! Spoilers! A supposed leak of Rare replay on Switch, I am not sure about how legitimate it is, but with Microsoft endorsing the Nintendo presentation and several high profile leakers saying Spoilers for smash! that they are "99%" sure banjo is going to be in smash, I think it's a reasonable bet.

Re: Open-World Action Adventure Gods & Monsters Arrives On Switch Next February

@Dm9982 Devolver was the highlight of the event for me, for a third time in a row.

Tales of Arise and the fromsoftware R.R Martin collusion would have been pretty exciting for me if leakers hadn't killed the surprise. PSO 2 would have also made me cry if it wasn't on the only console I don't own.

Cheers to Doom Eternal tough, prolly my most anticipated game this year.

Re: Feature: Looking Back On Nintendo’s E3 2018

@JR150 spoilers for possible leaks

Actually, a leaker recently did a huge post that had tons of info on the Microsoft presentation, and it had switch stuff in it.

If true, we are getting a new Wario Ware and a new 2D Metroid, as well as the Mana collection with a localized senkei densetsu 3.
