The hype surrounding Banjo-Kazooie is through the metaphorical roof at the moment, all thanks to the duo's reveal as a new, upcoming fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Heck, we're pretty sure Nintendo's NYC store almost collapsed under the pressure of fans jumping up and down during the reveal.
Now, as if to send our excited little minds into further meltdown, a listing for a game simply called 'Banjo-Kazooie (Working Title)' has appeared on Amazon Germany. The game is listed for Nintendo Switch with no other information and no artwork provided. We've grabbed a quick screenshot for you below, but you can visit the link here if you're interested.
As exciting as the prospect of a Banjo game coming to Switch might be, we wouldn't count on this listing as being proof that such a thing exists. Sure, Microsoft's current relationship status with Nintendo could well allow for such a thing in the future, and now would be as good a time as any for a game to be in development, but we've all been stung by retailer listings in the past.
We find it highly unlikely that Nintendo would provide any information on an upcoming game to retailers at this stage if it did exist, so it would be best to keep any expectations safely in check. For now, let's be happy with the bear and bird making their way to Smash; we'll keep an eye out for any further developments with this supposed Switch game going forward, or perhaps more realistically, a port of Rare Replay?
Would you like to see a Banjo-Kazooie reboot on Switch? The original team recently revealed that they don't think a new game would sell.

?? WHAT ?? Damn I hope this is real.
Well...unless it is a new game like nuts and bolts, please just give us the two originals on a physical cartridge.
I wish it was real. I'm about 90% positive it's not going to happen but we can all dream I suppose. I should play through the originals again at some point.
They are probably just predicting that there will be a Banjo-Kazooie game.
Its probably just an Smash amiibo of Banjo-Kazooie, and confused it as a game.
Never played those games, so for me it would be nice if they release the first 2 games on Switch.
If this was legit, I would figure it is a new game, since they would probably bring the ports over with Rare Replay when they release that on Switch
Shall we just add this to the list with Mother and move on.....
I'd really be curious to see a modern take on old IPs from Rare. I'm not even sure it is still a decent studio.
Nintendo has made a start with making the characters and spiral mountain level.
Ask grezzo to do an HD remake of the original.
If Microsoft are going to release any IP it would be Banjo. They've done absolutely zilch with it, and if it helps secure a better relationship with Nintendo (which they apparently want) then this would be a good opportunity for them. They've already signed it off for Smash obviously so assuming the resource is there to make a remaster/port or even a new title then it's an inevitability in my mind.
Wallet on standby.
Personally I really think Microsoft is gonna release Banjo Kazooie on Switch. It wouldn't really make sense not to at this point. Why have Banjo in Smash, but you don't intend on putting his game on the system?
@Giygas_95 Yes, but Joker is on Smash but Persona is not coming to switch. Also Cloud turned up in Smash Wii U, but FF7 didnt appear until a few years after.
@Bunkerneath True. Anything could happen at this point.
I’d be amazed if Microsoft don’t try to put at least some of the content on rare replay on the switch at some point. It’s guaranteed to make them cash . Most the stuff on there is synonymous with Nintendo platforms and fans would be all over it.
Remaster Banjo-Kazooie + Banjo-Tooie like Crash Bandicoot/Spyro. Release on Xbox and Switch. That would be the only option to make some cash. A new version would be hard, because the original dev team left.
I already pre-ordered on the first day it appeared just to make sure
@Mr_Pepperami The problem with Rare replay is that they would have to rewrite the emulators because of the different system architecture. It could be especially challenging to get the N64 and Xbox games running smoothly. Also, it's 50GB.
And we haven't seen any N64 games released on the Switch. I highly doubt the first one would be from Microsoft.
@HumanDog fair point. I did say some of the content on there as i did think size could be a problem(gonna avoid the obvious joke). We have had turok on switch though.
To be fair the original team would be right depending on the console
@HumanDog actually we have seen Turok 1 released on the Switch!
Although without the pea soup fog it's not really the same...
Also just a reminder that the people who said that a new B-K would not sell now are the original creators, who have no input in such a decision. Microsoft are total renegades these days, who knows what they might decide to do.
Release them on Switch Online when his Smash Character releases. We are paying for that service, put the two games there.
So this is what Retro was working on
I'm not opposed to a remaster or remake for this classic, and I would even appreciate a simple re-release on the Switch ... but only in abstract terms. The game received a 4k-patch this week on XBX (along with most other games of Rare Replay aka Perfect Dark etc.), hence the promise of playing in 720p is not particularly alluring to be quite frank. It would be neat to have it on the system, just for old times sake, but ... yeah. It would have to come really cheap for me to consider bothering with yet another purchase.
@N64-ROX @Mr_Pepperami The Turok games aren't emulated. Turok 1 & 2 were released on the PC years ago and the remastered versions are based on those ports. Apparently the Banjo-Kazooie games in Rare Replay were Xbox 360 ports, so maybe those will be ported to the Switch, but I doubt it. A remake would make more sense in the light of Crash/Spyro.
But enough Banjo-Kazooie, I want a Blast Corps remake/reboot.
@HumanDog
Blast Corps? Gaah...
I'm definitely not one to underestimate nostalgia but I'd file that one under "too hard for gamers this millennium"
This is what I have been asking for years. Literally years.
The N64 was the second Nintendo home console I ever owned (after the NES, which I had in the 1980s). I never had a SNES. Banjo-Kazooie was my favourite game that I owned on that console (tied of course with Super Mario 64).
Anyway, Banjo-Kazooie was and has remained one of my favourite games of all time. I must have played it (to 100%) about 10 to 20 times over the years since it was released (including on the XBox).
I was devastated when XBox took Banjo away from Nintendo though. To see them in a game (a rerelease of the original?) on the Switch would be... there are no words... I will try not to get my hopes up too much but please let this be true! ❤️
@Moose_4 Grezzo <3
Probably the Amiibo
I have countless fond memories of Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie and I’m pretty desperate to play them again without buying an Xbox or hunting down the original carts/N64. I’m happy the character is in Smash, but I want the actual games. I feel like they would sell really well on Switch as a dual-pack physical cart.
I've never played a Banjo and Kazooie game but, if this listing is true, then you can bet that I will give it a try
would love to play the first 2 again in hd remaster editions.
The duo being added to Smash Bros does now mean (to me at least) that the chances of another BK game are looking likelier than ever. Whether or not this listing is correct is another matter though.
I want to see the two games on an HD collection or something
Dint know how Id feel about a brand new banjo game, since alot of the original devs left rare long ago, that said id be willing to give it a chance even if not made by the original developers, afterall the newer killer instinct was really good so who knows
Either way id love rare replay on switch (and pc) so I could play through the old games and also give conker another visit
The rare replay could even have DKC 1,2,3 for the switch version!
@Bunkerneath : Isn't Joker the lead character in the recent Persona Q game on 3DS?
Not every new Smash character has stemmed from home console games, so the inclusion of Joker makes more sense than Snake (whose inclusion still doesn't make sense given his lack of presence on Nintendo hardware) or Cloud during the last generation (as there were no mainland Final Fantasy games on Wii U or 3DS, at least that I am aware of, outside of any SNES VC releases).
@Silly_G Snake had the Twin snakes which was a waaaay higher profile release than Persona Q2, not to mention he did, indeed, have history with Nintendo despite his main association with the Play station brand. Remember there were Metal gear games on NES.
Cloud is the only character that was a legit "Screw you" to the idea of newcomers needing to have any sort of presence on Nintendo systems. I mantain he has been the worse adition in smash, to date.
At this point i am surprised Microsoft hasn't made a remake of the original Banjo Kazooie in the wake of the nostalgia fever caused by the Crash bandicoot remakes.
Then again, i look at Conker Live and reloaded and wonder if i should be grateful.
I kinda feel like a new entry isn't in the cards; this listing is most likely for a rerelease of the existing entries in the series.
Probably a collection of the GBA and DS games.
So, we only shouldn't count on it because this article says not to?
Be sure to remember this comment in the months to come. Banjo and Kazooie in Smash isn't the only collaboration Nintendo is doing with Microsoft. They are partnering up on some fun projects, one of which might see our favorite Bear and Bird back in action
I've been hoping for more retro remakes, and this would be right up my alley, I love the idea of getting to explore a game's history with improved graphics and QoL changes. Heck, Grunty's Revenge, Banjo-Pilot (apparently that was originally the sequel to Diddy-Kong Racing) and Nuts and Bolts titles just to see all of the parts of the series, even the less stellar ones.
I wonder how Microsoft would feel about a full remake. Rare itself is mainly focused on Sea of Thieves, but they outsourced Mortal Kombat for its remake and it worked out great, plus Banjo and Kazooie is probably the most famous Rare title there is, plus he got a metric ton of attention thanks to Smash. If they're going to release one, I'd hope that they'd strike while the iron is hot, especially since most of Rare's catalogue has been dormant since Rare Replay.
yeah don't buy into it
RareReplay is my most wanted game on Switch. Hope it happens!
It really wouldn't surprise me to see Banjo Kazooie arrive on Switch seeing as he is a Smash character now and people thought that was impossible. Until I see an official announcement I am assuming everything else is fake though.
If its a remake of the two games in the style of Crash Bandicoot Insane Trilogy or a true third game I'll check it out.
Pleasssse let it be true and let it be a new one. A very good one, A very good looking one!
only me really loves gruntys revenge ??
I am taking inventory on the interest level for a banjo remake set, http://chng.it/zVXXKS4F29 sign this to acknowledge your interest #BanjoKazooie
@Finlderp But realistically did we ever think Banjo would get in smash???
