Re: Guide: How To Beat Zelda: Breath Of The Wild's Hardest Shrine Quest, Eventide Island

SparkyBuddy

Yeah, as has already been said earlier there's a much easier way to beat this.

There is a raft and leaf you can use to sail to the island directly from the mainland (I forget north/south, but it's directly in a straight line from the island)

As soon as your raft comes to the shore make sure you do the following- open up your inventory and drop all your best swords, and shields. Then before you drop your bows make sure you fire 10 arrows into the sand and then drop the bows.

Once you step onto the island your gear, clothes etc will be taken from you and you'll start the mission. Now just go back to the sand, pick up the arrows, then go back to the raft and pick up the bows, swords and shields.

You'll still have to be careful as you don't have armour, but otherwise this mission is actually quite easy!

Re: Poll: Merry Switchmas - Has the Nintendo Switch Launch Got You In a Festive Spirit?

SparkyBuddy

I have got two Switches which Amazon delivered today. I wanted the red/blue one and had already preordered the grey one so have ended up with both as I feared my later preorder may not have arrived...so now I have two.

Zelda is great, but there's been a few issues. Internet kept disconnecting, it's not obvious how you switch the machine off and I've had a few joy con de-syncing issues. The red right one completely gave out on me and no matter how many times I attached it to the switch it did nothing. Luckily the sync button on the side worked or I would have not been happy.

Re: Faux-Retro Survival Horror Back In 1995 64 Shuffles Menacingly Towards The Nintendo 3DS

SparkyBuddy

The trailers don't make this look that great. I love old survival horror games from the psone era, but where as this could have been a retro game in that style which has the opportunity to be better then what came in the past I have big doubts this will come close to the classics. It doesn't have pre rendered backdrops, and so does look more like Silent Hill and Dino Crisis. The character models look closer to the original Alone in the Dark from 1993 then anything else. There was also the Resident Evil 2 demo for the GBA - Leon looked deformed in that and this is kinda similar.

I'd love for a new Resident Evil 1-3 style game to come out. Pre-rendered backgrounds, item boxes, save points, puzzles - I miss all that stuff!

Re: Anniversary: Super Mario 64 is Now 20 Years Old

SparkyBuddy

I wish they'd do more games like this. Collect 100 coins for a star, different routes through big levels - objective based rather then just reach the goal.

Would also be a day one purchase if they did an NX ground up remake of this. This time make every painting in the castle a level!

Re: Sonic Team is Working on a New Sonic Game

SparkyBuddy

I actually enjoyed Sonic 06 when I got it in my PS3. One of the few games I bothered buying dlc for early in the last gen.

I don't get why they have never just done a sonic in 3D with Mario style levels and controls. Even back in the mega drive days I never thought 'it's sonic, so it has to be super fast' the speed thing has limited how good the games can be. I liked the big levels that could be explored.

Re: Nintendo Share Price Drops Over 8% as Analysts Weigh in On NX and Mobile Plans

SparkyBuddy

So the stock drops a little. It'll bounce back. As much as I don't like how things look for the prospects of 2016 as a Nintendo fan, I think they're doing what they have to do.

With all these PS4K and updated Xbox One rumours about Nintendo may simply be playing wait and see to know what their competition will be. If Nintendo's "next generation" machine NX will only match the PS4K which will probably be shown at e3, then Nintendo would be smart to hold off and rethink their specs before they go public and for the third time in a row launch a machine that only matches the previous generation.

Also by not revealing the NX at e3, Nintendo can time it's reveal to purposely take some wind out of PS VR and the Xmas rush. Show off the NX and there'll be some people that decide to save their Christmas money for the NX launch. If Nintendo aren't ready to launch for Christmas it's the smartest thing they could do.

Re: Nintendo NX Will Be Launched Globally in March 2017

SparkyBuddy

I'm ok with this news. It's disappointing not to get it sooner, but think it's the right decision. Here's why-

So many developers have said they no nothing about it. If they're not making games for it we'd end up with software droughts like with the Wii u which will lead to reduced console sales which lead to bad publicity which lead to third parties not making games for the system. More time should mean more developers can get on board.

Also a launch before Xmas means they put out a bunch of big launch titles all in one go and there's always a dip in good games released in the early months of the next year. This way the NX launch in March will have some big games (Zelda if nothing else) and then we'll still get more big games later in the year which should make the flow seem steady. Even though everyone says the N64 had no games for ages all I remember is that it launched in March 97 (in uk) with Mario 64 and by the end of the year we'd also had Lylat Wars, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing and Goldeneye. If the NX has five games of their quality by the end of next year I'll be satisfied.

Also this should (hopefully) mean there will be a bit more love for the Wii u this Xmas. Paper Mario could be their big game, but maybe Pikmin 4 will come? Also wouldn't surprise me if we got a new Donkey Kong Country or Mario Golf or something where they could reduce development time by reusing assets from another game that's already out. Wouldn't it be cool if they ported Mario Kart Arcade to Wii U?

Re: The Legend of Zelda Wii U Has Been Pushed Back to 2017, Will Release On NX As Well

SparkyBuddy

Hmmm. Here's what I take from this-
this confirms the NX is a home console and that the controller for the device can't be too radically different from the Wii u for it to have the same game on both. Sure twilight had motion controls which were different from GameCube, but realistically it just mapped button presses to waggles.

It also confirms that when its all said and done the Wii U will have had over 4 years on the market.

It should also mean that we get some new Wii u games announced for Xmas this year!!! Mario party 11: Amiibo Cash In Festival!!!

Re: Reaction: Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins Had Humour, Weirdness, Teases and Lots of Potential

SparkyBuddy

I also thought that Falco's game was being played on an NX! Wouldn't that be great if Nintendo snuck the first glimpse of its new machine into a cartoon and most the world didn't realise it until later?

It does kinda fit the rumours. Falco was playing Star Wing on the TV whilst having a controller with a build in screen which looked enough like a 3ds successor that it could be this hybrid many having been dreaming of! It looked like the grips may pop out or were extendable, which is interesting.

Also it's shoulder buttons were rounded and could have been these mouse roller wheels like on Nintendo's patent! It's the NX guys!!!

Re: Poll: The Wii U GamePad - Where Do You Stand on Nintendo's Hefty Controller?

SparkyBuddy

I think Art Academy is the best thing they've done with the gamepad. Encourages people to do art and is the best justification for the touchscreen using a stylus. Simply allows more precise art then you can do with the kind of touch screen on a iPhone/Vita etc. Art Academy should have been built into the system and miiverse, and allowed you to design your own wallpapers/themes etc to share.

Game wise Mario Maker makes the best use of it. Just so much simpler then if you had to use traditional controls to choose and position elements. Shame they didn't come up with it for the system's launch as it would have probably lead the way for 3rd parties to release RPG makers and Sonic Makers etc etc.

Mario Paint, Jet Set Radio and any game/app that lends itself to art and design or even music creation could have worked well with it.

I've not seen enough of Star Fox to know if it works like this, but always imagined that the gamepad could have given you a range of extra controls from inside the arwing. If you were hit you could have also had to put out fires on the gamepad and had your view obscured by smoke or nano monsters burrowing in which affects your normal ability to fly etc.

Also always thought that there should have been a Zelda/Kid Icarus or other fantasy game where you could use a wii remote in one hand as a sword and have the gamepad with a special cradle (like the Wii wheel) to make it so you can hold it in one hand like a shield. Can imagine using it like a mirror shield to reflect and aim laser beams or fire or as a view to fight a like medusa monster so your character on the TV has to face away from your enemy.

Anyway that's enough of my creative thoughts for now lol. It's just a shame that for the most part the gamepad's use in games has been for maps and item management which although are made better on the Wii U, are actually the least fun parts of games and not really a great selling point.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country (New 3DS / SNES)

SparkyBuddy

Love this game. Played through it 3 times since downloading a week ago. Very low final percentage, but was able to blast through the game to the final boss in 57 minutes lol. When I had this on the Super NES it took me weeks to beat

Re: Mighty No. 9's Release Date Remains A Mighty Mystery

SparkyBuddy

I just hope that the reviews for the game don't reflect the delays and only focus on how good/bad it is when it comes out. Got a feeling a lot of them are going to mention that it was 'delayed this many times and is only this good' kinda thing. Maybe they'll say it was worth the delays. Point is - this shouldn't be a factor when it comes to it...if it comes to it and it's actually released

Re: A New Patch for FreezeME is on the Way in North America

SparkyBuddy

I got this game on Saturday and have only played through the first level so far, but think that it's a fun game for 3D platform fans. That said it'd be better to go in not expecting it to match the games that inspired it. The controls are decent, but don't feel as fluid as Mario or Banjo. Can't quite put my finger on it, but felt that there were slight pauses or slow down after jumps and running into things. Wasn't a frame rate thing or anything like that, but just the way the character controls - not quite as smooth as Mazza. Also the level design, whilst good in that it's the Mario 64 big level with lots of things to see and do approach also left me not really knowing where to go for the task at hand. I think maybe this'll be fine once I've learned the level lay out a bit more, but where as the classics designs naturally guide you through the levels logically this one is a bit more open and less obviously which route will lead you to the objective you're trying to achieve. Not a bad thing- it was fun to explore, but had to back track a few times to figure out where I was heading.

Re: Negative Reception For Devil's Third Is Due To Poor Player Skill, Claims Tomonobu Itagaki

SparkyBuddy

I'm waiting for the actual reviews. Can't base opinions off of previews alone. Even something like flappy bird seemed impossible and broken when I first played it, but can now appreciate it after giving it a little time to get used to controls. And the graphics don't bother me. If they did I wouldn't have a Wii U and Minecraft wouldn't have been the biggest thing in gaming for the last few years.

Re: Video: Capcom Shares Footage of Resident Evil 0 N64 Prototype

SparkyBuddy

What I'd really like is for Capcom to release a special collection titled something like Resident Evil: Alternative Universe Collection which includes the following: N64 Resident Evil Zero, Game Boy Color Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 1.5, The Hook Ghost Version of Resident Evil 4 and the first version of Resident Evil 5 where the sunlight was a scrapped gameplay element. I know some of these are more completed then others, but I think a collection this this could be cool if they presented them as lost chapters with new cutscenes or files to link them. Would be a cool game they could add lots of achievements to, to add extra challenges or something. I'd buy it.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Approach to Transforming Franchises Clashes With Fan Expectations

SparkyBuddy

When Nintendo is desperate for better sales, like it currently is with the Wii U, it would probably be better just to give some safe bets rather then be too experimental. The balance should be 70% safe bets - 30% new ideas. Both Mario Kart 8 and Smash were safe bets and did well, but otherwise Nintendo haven't put out tons of obviously safe bets.

Sure NSMBU and SM3DW are kinda safe bets, but even they are slightly off. Launching with 2d over 3d mario was a mistake. 2D may sell better overall, but 3d mario is more attention grabbing for an early launch game. If a 2D Mario game were coming now it would have been better timed to be a safe bet for something a lot of an increased install would latch onto. I suppose Mario Maker is that game.

On the GameCube Nintendo did just as many experiments and very similar to the Wii U have us lots of games that were slightly off our hopes and expectations.

Luigis mansion launch wasn't the Mario game everyone wanted. Star Fox Adventures wasn't the flight based game we wanted, Wind Waker wasn't the OOT follow us people hoped for, and though amazing was mostly rejected in the press before its release. This wouldn't have helped the Cube sell better in anticipation for ZWW. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was a DKC sequel. Metroid also went in a new direction, and stands as just about the only major change to a series during the cube era that everyone liked. Pokemon never gave us a home console equivalent to what the Game Boy offered which people thought should have been possible on Cube. Even Mario Sunshine came out under the cloud of Nintendo saying they were going to make shorter games and that Sunshine itself wasn't the full follow up to SM64 they intended. Most things on Cube were slightly off.

A lot of this rings true on Wii U. Wind Waker remake may have been a quick turn over but didn't represent what we wanted from a Wii u Zelda. 3D World wasn't Galaxy 3, Star Fox Zero is another rebelling of the original story...again, animal crossing isn't like animal crossing. Even with the Amiibos Nintendo haven't put out any kind of grand Amiibo adventure game which is basically what every rival toy to life game is.

Re: Nintendo's Official UK Store Restocks on Some Rare amiibo

SparkyBuddy

Just got a Charizard - first time I've got anything from the Nintendo store

Managed to get a Shulk yesterday in Argos of all places - my advice would be to keep checking stores as occasionally the odd one comes back into stock!

My current Amiibo collection is: Link, Bowser, Diddy Kong, Sheik, Fox, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Marth, Shulk, Toad and now Charizard...never thought I'd be collecting these lol
