Square Enix will be celebrating its 10th anniversary on 1st April and to celebrate the company has launched a new website dedicated to the milestone.
The site is open right now and upon entering you're met with the following message (translated from Japanese):
As of April 1st we’ve reached our 10th anniversary!
We hope you’ll continue supporting us going forward as well!
We’re thinking of collaborations and a bunch of things that should make everyone a little bit happy.
It’ll be settled soon, so we’ll keep you posted.
Of course, Square and Enix were both formed much longer than ten years ago, but the two merged together on 1st April 2003.
The promise of some collaborations is certainly intriguing and we can't wait to see what Square Enix has in mind to celebrate its anniversary. Perhaps a Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest crossover?
Hopefully this isn't just one big elaborate April fools joke...
What would you like to see from Square Enix to celebrate its 10th anniversary? Let us know in the comments section below.

I'd love KH3, DQVII remake localisation confirmation, and uh, FF12 HD for the Vita. And a FFTA for 3DS!
KH HD 1.5 Remix for Wii U?
If the stars align on Friday the 13th on a blue moon, then Square Enix will remake Final Fantasy 7.
Better not be an April Fools joke...
Also, it better be Versus XIII-related.
An opportunity to celebrate BOTH halves of the company? Nah, they'll probably squander it with more Final Fantasy.
Very interesting to think how its been 10 years since Square and Enix merged together. Obviously as a merged company, things have changed. So it really puts you in a retrospective point of view, thinking what things might have been like had they not come together as one publisher and developer. Looking forward to potential surprises they might reveal o:
How about they start making up for lost time with some Final Fantasy re-releases on Wii U or 3DS? FF7 and FF9 on 3DS would look fantastic.
Ten years ago, two titans in the video game industry combined to create... a bigger but not better titan. Being bigger, its ears were too far from the mouths of those who kept it alive, and its rear could drop much more crap faster. When it tried to do something big it was horrible (and had the number XIII upon it). The small things it did were incredible, and there was one big thing it was doing that had potential. However it hadn't come to be. The titan tried to do what his two halves used to, but as one body, its capabilities were in truth limited. It still had a chance though. It would need to act differently as it couldn't be two and use its strengths to return to its glory as two. It would be a hard journey, but one still feasible. Best of luck Square-Enix.
Bravely Default and Final Fantasy Type-0 localization announcement or GTFO, Square Enix.
All eleven FFs on WiiU
Tomb Raider on Steam. Yesss!
@ToadFan They should, I mean, the collection was originally supposed to be for Wii right?
Final Fantasy Electric Bugaloo: Revenge Of Androgyny. :/
@Knux AND Dragon Quest VII Don't leave Enix out
It's most likely just going to be the Deus Ex: Human Defiance announcement.
More iOS games. Except this time they will release the NES versions and the Game Boy Saga/Final Fantasy Legends on their with zero changes other than borders around the screen.
10 Years.... 10 years of disappointments. Apart from Theatrhythm, that was pretty awesome.
Announcement of Final Fantasy XIII 4!!! Because fourth time's the charm!
Don't expect another The World Ends With You.
They're already making an iOS sequel called "live remix", and it's pretty bad... (It's a frickin social game.)
Google it, and prepare to cry.
Dragon Quest XI, playable offline and like VIII but even better - that's what I'd like to see.
I'm hoping they release info on DQ VII, Dragon Quest Monsters Terry's Wonderland 3D and Bravely Default, I really want those games localised, the western market really needs those games. I would've assumed we'd have info on DQM by now, since that game came out in japan quite some time ago.
i say its a big april fool joke..i dont think they joined back in 2003 did they?
guess they did cant belive its been 10 years already..where did those 10 years go
@shinokami I do not know if it was originally for Wii, but I think it should also be on Wii U because about half of the Kingdom Hearts games are on nintendo handhelds (CoM, 358/2, Re:Coded, & DDD) and the whole entire point of 1.5 and 2.5 is to get everyone knowing the complete Kingdom Hearts story so far.
Unless they have some kind of morbid death wish, no more MMORPGs.
illusion of time(gaia) on virual console, please!!!
Its about time we had some more of the enix back catalogue re released.
Ah, ten years have passed since that sad day. Squaresoft was easily my favorite third party developer, can't say the same for Square Enix... at all. In related news, Final Fantasy is pretty much dead to me.
I bet they're going to say they're localizing all of the games that haven't come out of Japan, and are going to make a Final Fantasy game with a plot people can actually understand.
Then say APRIL FOOLS, We're going to bring Final Fantasy: All The Bravest to PSN, X-Box live, the Nintendo eShops, and to PC, Mac, Linux and Ouya later.
April 1 is the worst day to have an anniversary. You think they'll plan something special on that day but it's likely an AF itself.
An April Fools joke 10 years in the making...Thats the funniest thing I've ever heard!
Imagine! Here it is everyone! Final Fanta-APRIL FOOOLLLLSSS!!! HAHA YOU THOUGHT WE ACTUALLY MERGED!?! WE SURE FOOLED YOU HAHA!
Front Mission 6.
WAIT WHAT IF THEY REMAKE SUPER MARIO RPG!!! (Yeah I know it won't happen but here's to hoping...) NO REALLY WHAT IF THEY REMAKE CHRONO TRIGGER... HD!!!
Anyway, I don't know why people continue to leave the Enix out of it all. Do you guys know that without Enix there would be no Square Enix as we know it today? Square was financially saved by Enix when the merge happened I hope you all know.
As for me I could go for a Final Fantasy 5,6 3DS. Final Fantasy VII PS4.
Dragon Quest 8 HD for Wii U and PS4. Dragon Quest 3 HD for Wii U!!!
If Dragon Quest 3 is ever remade for HD on Wii U Square Enix will never report another loss for the rest of the year. That game is just tooooo EPIC!
So yeah, I think they should release HD remakes of both sides' most famous games. Square's being Final Fantasy VII and Enix's being Dragon Quest III.
I just hope it isn't another smartphone game... ugh.
Whatever it is, make it on the Wii U
Kingdom Hearts III for Wii U please!
in order for SE to make money and get the fans back here is what they should do: chrono trigger 2, chrono cross 2, super mario rpg 2, kingdom hearts 3, ff 7 remake and tactics ogre x dragon quest... well i can only wish for that ever happening xD
imagine they said they were remaking FFVII for wiiu said it was an april fool's joke at the end of the day and then announced on April 2nd that it is really being released, that would be the best double turn EVER anyone with me?
Hmm.. The message says "collaborations," right? That means it probably won't be a remake of a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest game, unless a new developer steps in to help. A new IP or crossover, perhaps?
@ljinkakidd Who knows? There might be a chance!
Oh I get it now... at least I understand why this company since the merger has been a completely and utterly joke! (-_____- b
@ljinkakidd Sure. You expect me to believe that the company who has one of the best selling videos games of all time was having money issues? In 2003 around 80-85 million Final Fantasy games alone sold. And that's just one series.
KH For wii U ? it,s a very good thing to do MR Enix! so Hurry up!
Hey I don't care what they do as long as they localize bravely default
Whatever they do, it won't be enough to stop Monolith Soft - they are the new RPG big boys in town.
We'll see if this actually turns out to be anything worth talking about. A couple of the last announcements turned out to be just browser games so I won't hold my breath.
Wait what was that game called again.... versus if I remember correctly. So that game is sitting in the dust and they're making an anniversary game. Way to set your priorities. 10 years square enix, 10 years.
Square Enix and April 1st together...
Pleeeeeease Final Fantasy Tactics A3!
Final Fantasy remake or something. That's all they ever tease.
I can take that statement to be quite ambiguous... it could probably mean anything. To celebrate, how about digging a little deeper into your SquareEnix vault(s) and give the world Soul Blazer, the never before released westward Terranigma, and also never released westward Secret of Mana 2 (bka Seiken Densentsu 3)? Are these... too much to ask for?
Terranigma Virtual Console release or remake?... Nah, that would be too awesome.
Interesting...the teaser site is down now, and that Gematsu article updated to suggest it might have been a joke all along. But the fact remains that Square and Enix DID finalize their merger on April 1st, 2003...presumably due to the financial year.
Their new game THIEF would be a welcome addition to the Wii U games library!
Some love for Secret of Mana would be nice.
It was just a joke all along, I saw it on their website. FUUUUUUUUUUU-
Kingdom Hearts on Wii U... if it's one of the HD remixes, then I predict a sudden temperature drop. In Hell.
How bout a chrono trigger remake........
@Deathgaze
I know its hard to believe but yeah look it up. I thought that too but it wasn't true. CGI wasn't cheap in the olden days and many other factors played into it. Game economics aren't always what they seem. Back then a million units or more was success for a game. Today, it's like a million is needed to stay afloat.
What we know is that FF and DQ are huge but Enix still had cash to burn and was quite hesitant on actually merging. I love video game history so this is a good subject for me.
@ljinkakidd I've just done extensive research and this is what I found out. Square was doing fantastic before hand. But when Spirits Within bombed they lost the vast majority of their money. However. The merge was planned before Spirits Within. FFX got Square well and truly back on their feet. But then Sakaguchi left to make movies and sold his 51% of the Final Fantasy brand to Square. The merge happened after Sakaguchi left and Square got back on their feet. Enix refused to merge with them in their initially money crisis.
