We know that through two days, one during E3 and one shortly after, over 100 Best Buy stores throughout North America will host demo units of major upcoming Wii U games, with the goal of giving shoppers the booth experience wherever they are.
It's a solid initiative, and a picture has emerged — via gamingvlog.net — of a promotional poster for the units. It seems authentic in the fact it lists four games — which has been confirmed as the number of demos by Nintendo of America on Twitter — and has the correct dates and details, in this case for the Wheaton store in Maryland; Wii U is also incorrectly spaced, which wouldn't be surprising considering it's such a common mistake.
The four titles listed are New Super Luigi U, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD; you can see the image below.
All of these titles are either dated or expected during Fall, with only The Wind Waker HD being a title that hasn't been seen much or previously available as a playable demo; the absence of games such as the new Super Mario 3D or Mario Kart is perhaps a disappointment, especially as Nintendo's confirmed they'll be playable on the E3 show floor.
But still, Nintendo does like to throw up surprises, and this is only a rumour, so we'll see what the final Best Buy offering is in the coming days. If this is the final picture, will you be heading to your local store to take a look, especially as there's "Luigi loot" on offer?
Thanks to Emily Rogers for the tip.

I call fake.
Surely Wind Waker would have a new logo, even if it is just an "HD" slapped on at the end.
@Jamouse True, you may be right. I know from experience in retail that out of date assets etc are often used by marketing departments who don't know much about what they're covering - https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/07/3ds_xl_with_two_circle_pads_advertised_by_uk_store is a good example! - but this is very much a rumour.
Not sure if fake or.... Nintendo wants trash the Wii U experience.
Even if it isnt fake its better than what any other company is doing regarding games its bringing to E3.
We know mario 3d and mario kart are close
Seriously if anyone was expecting anything more, they're just unrealistic.
This looks fake to me too. Like someone created it with a color copier.
The reason for only these games, if it's true, could be because they are the most finished. The other builds may not be finished enough to throw in to a bunch of people who doesn't get that it's unfinished. Some might think it represent the finished product.
If this is true, than I am severely disappointed...
not surprised but still disappointed. I expected at LEAST this from those ridiculous launch kiosks, and got nothing but cheesy videos and a rayman demo which still isn't released. Nintendo marketing drops the ball again... or still?
That would be a huge bummer for those with access to these demos to not be able to play Super Mario 3D or Mario Kart, I really hope this turns out to be fake.
Obviously fake, that font is so basic and unprofessional.
The games listed are games we already know about and have logos to, plus the Wind Waker logo is the exact same one from the GameCube game.
wind waker and w101 ok.. but we alredy had pikmin 3 last year, and luigi u? wtf, i call fake, nintendo said they will announce the games in 2 days and probably mario kart and 3 d mario will be in
This list isn't that disappointing to me, nor surprising, if true.
I'd call fake.
Remember, the demos are not aimed at us, the hardcore fans - Nintendo is trying to reach the folks who don't even know Wii U exists.
@JJtheTexan
Good point, but they should allow the people who already own a Wii U to play those demos too.
it would be better if they also released the demo's on the eShop to especially for those of us who don't live in the USA (like me)
Im still hyped cause i dont have a best buy open yet where i live.
No reason to think it's fake because it looks poorly made. This won't be something sent out by Nintendo, it will be some staff at that store throwing something together based on what they've been told will be playable.
I would not be surprised at all if those were the games. I just don't understand why they don't make them downloadable like MS did.
I would be happy to try out the three new titles, though my plan to drive an hour to get to this demo now needs to be questioned. It's still four solid titles even if already revealed titles are not something we get excited about E3 for.
Pikmin 3 logo is also different now
BUT still don't think it is disappointing ! These are games that will come out in the summer. If you let people play games that will come out in six months, people will forget and move on ! Instead most of these games are available in 1-3 months ! Nintendo's doing good !
It looks real to me and the demo choices make sense.
I hope this ain't the real list 4 games i mean why luigi u? that's like mario u and that's nothing much diff at all. I was hoping to see 3d mario, smash bros or mario kart demo.
Pretty close to the list I called when this news was first covered. The clue in the original announcement was the wording, something to the effect of "as of yet unreleased games", it never said anything for demos about unannounced games.
Here's my oriingal post from a week ago:
As for the 4 playable demoes for "games that arent released yet" - Pikmin 3, Luigi Levels, Wonderful 101 and Windwaker HD. No way Super Smash Bros. U is far enough along for a demo, and Mario and Mario Kart will be shown but probably not playable at Best Buy.
Actually if this "leak' is correct I got all 4 right. Not bad if I do say so myself
Still disappointing though.
What did you expect?!
It's par for the course with Nintendo of late.
I bet some fanboys were actually expecting to get their hands on the likes of Super Mario Universe, Mario Kart U and maybe even something from Smash Bros U and Zelda U too...
That's what I would have had, probably along with the other games they've listed in the article too!!!
Of course that would just be too good for modern Nintendo to actually do.
Seriously, if this is what Nintendo thinks is going to excite today's gamers (especially when you consider what both Sony and Microsoft are going to be likely showing off at this E3), other than blind fanboys, it shows just how out of touch with reality the company is right now.
All I feel from Nintendo these days is constant disappointment.
It just never goes quite far enough enough anymore.
Looks fake. If that's the list I MIGHT go since Nintendo World is like 30 minutes away from me.
Just because this flyer looks like it came from a color printer does not mean it's fake. It just means that the Wheaton store might have gotten a little too excited and made their own poster spilling the beans. Some stores like to make their own posters. And yeah, I'm disappointed with the list too, but seriously, why all the glum faces? It's not every day that someone can just walk into a store and try a game that hasn't been released yet. A trip to E3 can set you back plenty of dough, a trip to Best Buy is free. And frankly, I'm pretty excited to try Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3. And hey, maybe New Super Luigi U and Wind Waker HD will set in some improvements to the titles they were animated from. Heck, maybe Wind Waker HD will make enough enhancements so that I actually like Wind Waker.
@Kirk: What do you mean? Nintendo innovates and makes a superpowered controller with a screen on it when they could've just made a more powerful Wii with no significant innovations, finally gets their online crap together and makes an awesome network for Wii U, complete with a special social network just for games, did their part in pushing out one of the best launch line-ups I've seen in years, and tries to bring a slice of the E3 floor to everyone in North America. Please tell me how they aren't doing enough.
I'm getting sick of this community. All it does is complain every time Nintendo does something nowadays.
I'd like to try all of those, actually. Was hoping Sonic would be among them, though.
Whats really disappointing is that nintendo isnt also utilising the eshop for these demos. E3 would be awesome for nintendo IMO if you could witness the nintendo direct spectacle on your wii u then try the demoes on the eshop from your wii u. Maybe next year...
with having a job its not really practical to drive over an hour out of my way to find the nearest best buy let alone a participating one. I WANT to try these demos. My complaint is the means of distribution. People demanding others to grow up should realize projection is the sincerest form of delusion there is.
Ummm... Yeah. That was obviously made by someone's kid during "playtime" on the family PC. How does this even get on Nintendo life?
Please do not complain about this if it's real oh my god what did you guys expect? Seriously? Grow up, real talk.
well, it cant be that fake... this looks like if the retail owner made this.... to show of.... so.... it makes sence he looked for the logos in google and posted a paper promoting it...
I won't have access to the best buy demos either way, but I'll wait until Nintendo officially announces which games will be available to play. I don't like believing in rumors or speculation.
Wow, people on here sound so greedy and ungrateful - how dare Nintendo give us demo-access to anything but their not-even-revealed super blockbuster titles?!
As long as I get to play Pikmin 3 this week, I'm happy.
One thing that makes me question this, besides the points already raised, is the fact that New Super Luigi U arrives in the eShop on June 20. That's only 8 days after the first demo date and 5 days after the second one. Plus, even though its technically new, it is still pretty much the same gameplay as NSMBU with a few minor changes.
Im not too sure about this one...no nintendo or best buy logo makes me believe its fake
Well that's kind of disappointing. No best buy is close enough for me to justify driving to it though, so I don't care.
You're kidding right? Is this true? ... I was really hoping for the new Mario Kart and 3D Mario to be playable... (Because I heard they were supposed to be playable, and didn't even think about it as a rumor...) Disappointed.
The only things I find interesting out of those is Wind Waker HD remake and Pikmin 3.
Sounds right, these are the first four 1st party games to be released, after all. So they're less likely to have bugs, etc.
Also, since the Best Buy thing's coming along with E3... if it were any other games, the titles would be leaked out by now.
I'm calling this fake for a few reasons.
1) The "3" in Pikmin 3 is a more orange-y color, not pink like in the poster.
2) NSLU is releasing in the eShop only a few days after the demos in Best Buy. I guess maybe they would have this on here because of the retail release releasing about a month later, but still...
3) The Wii U is not properly spaced. This pay not seem like a big deal, but I Nintendo would not make a mistake like that. If this is real, then this would suggest that all the 100 Best Buys are making their own posters, possibly meaning that each Best Buy would not be receiving the same four games, which I am sure will not happen. Why would Nintendo give half of the stores 3D Mario and the others NSLU? It just doesn't make sense.
4) There's no (TM) after the incorrectly spaced Wii U on the top. Again, I highly doubt Nintendo would do something like that, so this would also suggest the poster is homemade.
5) The poster says "Get free Luigi Loot for coming in!" In this sentence, the "I" in "in" seems to be capitalized, which is hard to tell, even when blown up, but if that's the case, then this is almost certainly proven to be fake or homemade.
6) In the same sentence involving "Luigi Loot," the (TM) is at the end of the sentence, not after Luigi Loot, as it should be.
7) Lastly, there is no HD after the Wind Waker logo, which Nintendo DEFINITELY would have added. That is a fact.
So, from all of these reasons, it can be deduced that this is either a fake or a poorly made unofficial poster.
In either case, this is not from Nintendo directly, so personally, I don't believe it.
@ToastyYogurt
Well I never said Nintendo didn't address previous issues or even do some good stuff this gen too.
I said that these days it never does quite enough and mostly disappoints and I stand by that.
For everything good it does it also does something totally stupid that completely undermines all the good it does.
It's very rarely you can find a Nintendo game, product or service these days that just gets it all right and doesn't have some glaring issue that detracts from all the stuff it did manage to get right.
This probably isn't all the games. ti would not be good advertising if they just had a huge list of games. Thsi is probably only a small amount of all the games that best buy is offering the demo for
I doubt this is the real list, but if it is, its making me glad to stay home instead of going to Best Buy. I dont think Super Luigi U will be one of the games. I think it will be the 3D Mario game instead, along with wind waker, pikmin 3 and wonderful 101. The mario game is the only reason i'd go to best buy. I know what wind waker plays like cause i have it on GCN. I will be playing my own copy of Pikmin 3 in less than 2 months. W101 looks good, but not good enough to drive 45 min and stand in line for. Mario is the only thing that'll get me out during E3 to do that.
That is a bit disappointing but I'm happy there are games at all. Also maybe its just a preview of the games but not all of them.
@Ukulele_Wizard
It's likely Best Buy made the poster, based on information from Nintendo. There's also no TM at the end of the sentence, that's a *
@kirk
Its not rare for me, Nintendo 3ds software and hardware has been amazing for the most part without any glaring issues. It's all a matter of personal opinion really, I just focus on the games that are available and that I enjoy. Why waste time from precious life complaining and whining when you could actually be playing games you like.
Even if these were the four games, that's not a bad list overall, but the Wind Waker logo looks off, so I assume that's fake.
You never know, they might actually have demos of Mario 3D, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros, but why put that on there and spoil any kind of surprise? I don't see that as being disappointed, cause I personally haven't played any of those games yet, and they are future releases. You guys are hoping for the next-next thing (3D Mario, Mario Kart), even after the next thing (Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3) hasn't been really shown to the public
Oh well, even if this is real, I still get to play Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101
Is anyone else having their Best Buy locations change on them? The Georgia ones have changed twice now, and I called the location nearest me (at the Mall of Georgia) and the associate I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about when I inquired if they would have the E3 Nintendo Experience demo stuff.
I am now worried.
Good chance it's not fake as these are the next nintendo games coming to the console and they really need to sell and not be shadowed by Mario 3D demo that's a later release.
This ad nearly gave me a heart attack! I thought the Wonderful 101 logo looked like an F-Zero title. Not the case, though. I'm still not used to The Wonderful 101's design. If these are the demos, I'm not uber excited for them, though it'd be better than nothing, so I'm still somewhat excited if it's real.
I don't get how people are disappointed...Have you played demos for any of these 4 games yet? No? Ok then, quit acting like entitled children. But...But....I wanted frosted flakes ! (Super Mario U). I'm sure that game has a long way to go and a demo this early doesn't really make sense.
I won't say I'm uber excited, but eager nonetheless. My Best Buy is about 20 min away and it's definitely going to be worth the trip. Looking forward to getting my hands on 101 and Wind Waker
@citizenerased Ah, I see it now. Thanks for clarifying. I thought it was a TM, not an *. Still, there should be a TM after Luigi Loot, and there isn't.
Although the list of games isn't THAT bad. I was expecting WW HD and TW101, and maybe Pikmin 3, but NSLU is a bit of a disappointment.
Was hoping for Mario 3D... :c Oh well, at least I get to finally try out Pikmin 3.
Anyways....is New Super Luigi REALLY necessary?...Seriously. :/
The only reason I am disappointed in this list is because it seems like half of the 1 hour Nintendo Direct will be focusing on these games. I feel like there aren't going to be very many surprises from the Big N after all. My guess is they will go in detail with Luigi U, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Zelda HD (all titles we have already seen), and then maybe show a couple minutes each of Mario, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros... They don't really have time for much else.
Be glad your getting anything us European's are getting nought.
for those who didn't get to go 101 and Pikmin were playable demos at the WiiU experience PRE-launch events, I went to one. They were probably of the more interesting games to be seen there, but then they weren't playable on the crappy gamestop kiosks all along? When I realized they weren't launch games I thought, what is then? Now we get demo's of them plus 2 other retreads playable after what 6 months; oooh how exciting! Seriously you have to be a sheep to still defend this as exciting news. Way too little, way too late. The saving grace here may just rely on how badly the Xbox one does. It's really pathetic what passes as a reveal for Nintendo these days. It's like celebrating skype as a great new feature, like touting oatmeal as the superfood of the future. Let the battle for the underwhelm crown begin!
Wouldn't be surprised. Nintendo is too strict. They wouldn't want anything out that wasn't far enough in development. Honestly, I don't even know why people think this Best Buy thing is great. Four hour windows in a store? For a demo... They could just send it to our Wii U's and limit the play to 1.
Terribly disappointing, if true. With the Possible exception of Luigi U, all of these demos have already been played at other conferences, Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 already at E3 last year! How does this give everyone the E3 experience when E3 attendees will get their hands on Mario and Mario Kart while games like Pikmin 3 are hitting store shelves in just a couple of months anyway. If this is indeed the list of demos at Best Buy, I won't bother to make the trip.
I mean really, two of these (Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101) are demos of games that were originally supposed to be released by the end of March!
Nintendo is hardly going to let BestBuy list any unnannounced games on their poster prior to Nintendo unveiling it first?
Aside from it possibly being fake, I find all these titles to be awesome to play. Especially the wonderful 101 and pikmin 3. Since those two games heavily rely on the use of the gamepad.
@astros75
Well if you can be happy with what you've got that's great and all credit to you but I just expect and want more.
Disappointing? I think not! All four of these games were pre orders for me, and will certainly not disappoint. Would I have liked to see the new Mario or MarioKart in that list? Of course I would. But to say these games are disappointing is really jumping off the deep end. As for the Windwaker logo being reused, I don't see why they would change it. It is the same game after all, just remastered for a new console. All Zelda games have that same font, and I can't remember one time Nintendo changed the logo of a remake (if you can prove me wrong though please state which game(s))
I actually have no problem with this, other then New Super Luigi U. because that's just stupid. I was already expecting Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101. I also assumed there would be Game and Wario, but I guess they didn't go with that. So, if this is true, I'll go just to play Pikmin and Zelda HD.
Considering how all of these games are virtually finished by now and are coming out soon, I don't think Nintendo has any good reason to NOT make these "E3" demos available on the eShop as well. There would be no point to forcing people to have to drive to their nearest Best Buy if they already own a Wii U. What would be the point of just simply making things inconvenient for Wii U owners when they don't have to be? Quite frankly, it would be stupid if they didn't put these on the eShop.
These are games that will not be released for a few months. Better something outside of E3 oppose to nothing.
Well it doesn't really matter to me because there are no Best Buy locations in my state so I wouldn't be able to go anyway. But even so if that is the real list it is quite disappointing...
They better not be! We’ve heard of these games for 6 months. They need to have Zelda: Wind Waker, 3D Mario, Mario Kart and maybe Pikmin 3. Luigi U is bloody DLC. They need to blow people away and the 4 above wouldnt do it. They’ve said Mario 3D and Mario Kart are at E3 as playable demos.
@Jamouse You are right!
@JuleyJules I think that Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101 are good choices due to the graphics and interesting game play. However, I agree that they should have included 3D Mario and Mario Kart U as the other two games. They know that those games are system sellers, so why not advertise it to the general public to boost sales this summer? Nintendo's marketing for the Wii U has always been terrible since they first announced it and you think they would have learned by now... I guess not.
I'm predicting Mario Universe(?) (since they say they have a demo made..), Mario Kart 8, WindWaker HD (may have a trailer... if there is a demo, I will be happy), Wonderful 101, Sonic Lost World (since there is an E3 demo..) and MAYBE a demonstration of Smash Bros U... Since Nintendo is probably going to pull out some big guns, these wouldn't surprise me... Nintendo is usually pretty genius in finding ways to boost sales greatly (and I mean HUGE games.), so I am really looking forward to tuesday morning!
This better be fake. I'm not traveling all the way over to the nearest Best Buy location that is featuring the game demos for these 4
Good. That means I'm not driving 95 miles to play a couple of demos. I still don't get why Tyler, Tx gets demos and Shreveport, La doesn't. Shreveport is twice the size of Tyler, and that number expands to triple the population size when you include Bossier City and the surrounding rural areas.
@zeldagaymer93 Someone on miiverse pointed out that Nintendo has always been very secretive. It's possible that Reggie will announce others on Tuesday after the Direct. I do hope they have learned and we'll see soon. They need to show big system sellers. In any case I'll be at Best Buy on Wednesday!!
pikmin 3 and wonderful 101, sound great
Ah, this list is very realistic, albeit a bit dissappointing.
I was totally expecting (wanting) Mario Kart and the new 3D Mario, as was the most of us. They should skip Luigi U and put Mario 3D in it's place.
Why would this be disappointing? It's pretty much what I was expecting. The only one that surprised me was Luigi U but why all the fuss? Are any of the other companies allowing the public early access to some of their games? People are just never happy.
Ditch new super luigi and wind waker for 3D mario and something else.
Anybody that was hopeful of a new 3D Mario or Smash Bros. being at this event was setting themselves up for disappointment. I'm honestly surprised about Wonderful 101, I thought for sure it was going to be Game and Wario.
Garbage... I can play windwaker in my sleep. I just wanna see a trailer.
Even if this is a fake, it would be highly unlikely that a day before the games are announced BestBuy would know nothing about it.
@JaxonH The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
I hear crickets already
It makes sense as those games are likely furthest along. I know it's not Nintendo, but I would've loved Sonic Lost World.
Some of you are lucky enough to be within a reasonable distance to get to one of these to try things out.
Guys, look at the link. Its been updated and apparently its been confirmed that the list is real. Im still not 100% certain, but that website confirmed it.
Well, something to think about: Remember when the Wii launched, they had several demoes on one disk... This could theoretically be a single Unit... Leaving possibility for another unit with other demoes (ie, 3D Mario U / Mario Kart U).
Heck, they got rid of the closest location to me (which would have been a one hour drive there) so now I don't care.
Well, these are nice games and they're coming soon, so it'd be great if people would be enticed to buy them after these demos. But, a little public hype from big titles would not hurt.
I really hope to god this is fake because if it's not, the Wii U will not be around after Christmas 2013. I'm 99.9% sure this is fake but there is a chance that this is why Ninty are not hitting the big stage this year. A presentation with 4 games would be a bit embarrassing. There's a rumour circulating that Sony and M$ are going to announcing over 10 1st party exclusives for launch day, including a number of new IP's @ E3, so I hope Nintendo have more up there sleeves.
What's the controversy? That's a great list of games. E3 demos crash a lot don't they? The very early stuff is worked on up to the last minute and held together with duct tape. Not suitable for retail kiosks at all, need to be shipped ahead of time, and too risky a flub for this experiment. You don't want "Wii U is a buggy mess" to be the impression.
That said, I'm less likely to make the trek to play these and now I wonder if these could end up as downloadable preview demos in the coming weeks or months.
Wow are people irrational about this. Comparing it to the other guys who will AFAIK have zero unreleased game demos at Best Buy during E3 especially for their upcoming consoles. Not having stuff that's from 6 months to years away playable at a few retail stores for a few hours on two days means the end of the Wii U? In what world are we living here folks? I guess hopes were through the stratosphere.
