Re: Exclusive: Nintendo PowerFest Winner Mike "Qik" Iarossi Will Compete In The Nintendo World Championships At E3 2015

I honestly don't see why people think that old games might be a part of this. We have to remember that Nintendo is having the NWC 2015 to help promote their games; they are a company after all. Having retro games in the tournament will not improve any sales and would hurt Nintendo in the long-run. Nintendo is taking this opportunity to advertise their newest games and build the hype. I'm guessing it'll have games like Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon, maybe Smash (this is a 'maybe' because they already had a Smash event last year).

As far as the format goes, I expect the May 30th qualification round games to be fairly quick and simple. They'll probably go points based as this would be the easiest way to eliminate players quickly.

The final tournament at E3 should be much bigger with a more head-to-head focus, such as a large Mario Kart race/8-player smash/Splatoon battle to eliminate players. It'd also be crazy if the final round introduced a brand new game like The Wizard haha.

1. If Melee brings in little money, then Smash4 brings in no money. Melee is a better competitive game and will always have more attendants than Smash4. Zero is a Smash4 pro, not a Melee pro. That's why he doesn't earn too much. On the other hand, Melee players like Mango and Armada earn a lot more. Mango earns enough just off his stream haha.

2. Nintendo will never fully support Melee as it would not benefit the company in any way. They want to promote Smash4. Until Nintendo makes Melee HD, the Melee competitive scene will never see any big institutional support.

3. Don't count out smash just yet Nintendolife. In recent years, the scene (Melee) has really taken off. Almost all top players are now sponsored by large esport teams including Cloud9, Liquid, and TSM to name a few. Every big tournament crashes the previous entry record and tallies in tons of stream viewership with Apex 2015 at a 110,000 high. Melee has been kicking for 14 years and its only getting bigger. If that's not enough of an indactor, I don't know what is.

@SCAR392 Have you never played a Smash game before? Do you realize how much more movement is involved in Smash than in games like Street Fighter and MK? In Smash, the player is constantly moving towards and away from their opponent to properly space attacks. I hear they often use the platforms to get around their opponents as well.... LOL. WTF kind of Smash games are you playing? Or should I say, how the heck do you play Smash? By standing in one spot most of the fight?

P.S. -Wavedashing is incorporated into gameplay as an additional movement option. It's simply transferring your air dodge momentum diagonally into the ground to slide in a neutral position for a short distance. It's not a glitch as most people call it, it's just a creative use of Melee's physics. And for those out there who claim its an exploit, you've obviously never tried it. Just because you can wavedash doesn't mean you'll automatically start winning. Like I said, wavedashing is a form of movement and it's all about how you use it that counts. Also, the creators meant to put L-Canceling in Melee. And for @SCAR392, if Wavedashing was in Street Fighter and MK, it wouldn't change anything as those games aren't heavily focused on your movement around the stage as Smash is.

Smash Wii U is a really fun game, but I chose Melee. What Melee has over Smash 4 is that it can be played best casually and competitively. It's such a fun party game and easily accessible to anyone, but at the same time it's the best competitive game with a bunch of advanced techniques or as most people carelessly say 'exploits' involved. Don't get me wrong, Smash Wii U can be played competitively as well, but it's boring in that respect compared to it's older brother Melee. If I was just looking at the party/fun side of things, Smash 4 would win, but with both categories I'd say Melee wins overall.

I'm still waiting for Banjo-Threeie. I'd like Nintendo to pick up a couple of great IPs like Mega Man from Capcom, or Rare's share of IPs; but in all honesty, Nintendo can't even support their own IPs. Where's F-Zero? Where's Earthbound? Where's Metroid? At least we know Star Fox is coming.

P.S. I know the creator of Earthbound said he doesn't want to make a new one, but there's simply too many fans who want one.
