Re: Review: Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance (GameCube) - Aged & Easier Than You're Used To, But Still A Winner

Smerd

@sportymariosonicmixx

CDN dollars - two games CIB. This one and Radiant Dawn about $400. I also mentioned I sold a controller. That was a sealed Wavebird - another $500. I believe I made the right call for myself.- I had to be honest about my gaming time and the money I want to spend towards it

Save states in the grand scheme of things can ruin a challenge but only if you let it. I personally didn’t like starting the whole level over again if I lost someone I don’t want to lose in battle after playing for an hour. If I have to stop the game for any reason - save the game as intended and load it up again that mid battle point is lost. I don’t have that much time to these days - too many games to play lol. Heck the other FE games now have a rewind feature. Save states are a nice option

Cheers

Re: Review: Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (Switch 2) - A Big, Bold Reimagining, And A First-Class Port

Smerd

The demo played great - I've never played this game and even though I have the original on switch - I still haven't gotten around to playing it past the first few battles. I'm looking forwrd to this. Switch 2 is really great for players who have yet to enjoy games previously unavailable on Nintendo Consoles. If I could afford multiple consoles and have the best of both worlds I would..

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - A Cheap Upgrade, But Lacking Substance

Smerd

Well...it's better than a 4... for Sk....
waits to get booted

I had some eshop credit - The resolution is noticeable - enough for the cost? Meh....My whole family plays it so I think the cost combined with the free 3.0 update released at the same time makes it ok... I do echo the thoughts that this update should have been sooner but - realistically, if 3.0 was not out and it was just the SW2 edition- I would have avoided it all together and not paid anything..

Re: Review: Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance (GameCube) - Aged & Easier Than You're Used To, But Still A Winner

Smerd

Once I saw this game on the release lineup back in April I knew it was time to sell my GCN disk copy... I figured selling that and my copy of Radiant Dawn would go to a collector that may have more joy /time out of playing them from the disks... I made it to Chapter 22 or so of PoR so I'm looking forward to playing this on NSO complete with save states and beating it. You can save in the middle of the chapter on the disk version but then you can't go back to that same save again once you load it up. It was a hassle for me personally.

Why sell? Well.....those games along with a sale of a controller paid for the Switch 2 system and two games... Good deal for me

Re: Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Demo - Switch And Switch 2 Performance Investigated

Smerd

I'm waiting - although I downloaded the S2 demo this morning and will try it out later this week.

I still have DQ III to complete and my S1 physical copy of DQ I/II to unwrap and enjoy.

I'm wondering what the sales data will tell us on how the key card S2 version sells compared to the S1 physical... or if S2/S1 digital rules supreme. This board is loud about key cards - it's a touchy subject but I'm wondering if the sales data will reflect most peoples sentiments here.

Anyone have data on DQ I/II ?

Re: Mini Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (Switch 2) - Just Hugely Disappointing

Smerd

@AussieMcBucket

I think it's a matter of interpretation.

We can agree it's an old game. The game is also not a bad game.

Even if we eliminate the game being out since 2011 - The Switch 1 (port) game was reviewed overall by most critics as a playable, enjoyable experience for the most part. Also the Anniversary bonus was reviewed positively. It's sold very well and loved by many blah blah.

This review is the Switch 2 "Edition". It's a patch. It's free (with a switch 1 version purchase obviously) and was reviewed way lower than I personally think it should be - given the negatives stated. I disagree with the 30fps attack and the Nothing new negatives. Input lag clearly sucks - but I couldn't agree nor disagree because my playing experience so far (over 4hrs) had none of that.

I'm very new to Skyrim - I bought it on the eshop maybe 2 years ago - on sale and have been happy. With the hours I put into it, it owes me nothing and the free upgrade is a big bonus.

I don't believe the S2 patch sucks (ie: a 4). I think some people may stay away from it because of it and it's a shame.

My advice to everyone - and it should have been in the review: Wait for the S1 version to go on sale - which was reviewed decently. It goes on sale often. Get that and enjoy it. Even playing the S1 version on the S2 has better loading times.

If you like it, download the S2 version - free -

If I didn't know anything about Skyrim... and said wow Skyrim sucks on the Switch 2 (a 4 - something to stay clearly away from for most people) I would be missing out on a decent game experience.

I feel the review didn't paint the whole picture. People conclude that this version - free or not - is unplayable - and that is simply not the case.

Re: Mini Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (Switch 2) - Just Hugely Disappointing

Smerd

@AussieMcBucket @Olliemar28
Yep... as stated "free upgrade". I never said free game.
The game itself isn't free so I suppose you can weigh in the original Switch 1 review which is a good port in of itself.

@Olliemar28
I'm critical of the 4 - yep. Maybe state that if you are starting brand new playing on Skyrim to look at the past review because it sounds to me you were reviewing the 'upgrade' Not the game itself. Why do I think this?
Your negatives are "nothing new" and 30fps. Those points about Input lag is clearly debatable I guess.. I can't argue that because I didn't come across any but maybe it's because of where I was in the game and it's not consistent everywhere. Hopefully a patch will fix the areas you had problems with.
And yes... a Positive part should be 'free upgrade'

So yeah.. a harsh 4 to be sure. Lets hope another port of another older game isn't judged so harshly because it offers nothing new and 30fps when the upgrade is free

To each his/her own.

**Also I understand the review is not originally yours - by 'you' i mean Nintendo Life..

Re: Mini Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (Switch 2) - Just Hugely Disappointing

Smerd

Yeah sorry - this review is pretty harsh. For a Free upgrade, I ended up playing for 4hrs straight - something I haven't done in any game in a long time. I noticed some 'water bug' that Switch Up's review pointed out but it didn't happen all the time and I didn't feel any input lag at all....

It looks great now - I was able to battle on like before and the frame rate didn't bother me because I was used to the Switch 1 version. I'm sure patches will come in to tweak it but wow...

Free.

Nothing new? It's an old game and it plays fine. Mario Galaxy plays fine too but they charge through the nose... this 60pfs hard on has to stop. Yes it's nice to have but for a game that's not a FPS or an intense F-zero type racing game it's not really required for Skyrim.

Re: Nintendo Launches Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Search Page

Smerd

I have not tested Nier Automata myself... I haven't played it fully yet and I was looking forward to diving into it on the Switch 2.

Chrono Cross has no issues as far as I can tell - it seems to be in the Radical Dreamers game that some glitches may occur but the main CC game seems fine. - This is the Cartridge version.

Re: The First Review For Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Is In

Smerd

Like I stated in another unrelated thread - I'm buying the Switch 1 physical version. I'm not hating on the GKC but I have DQ III HD2D already on Switch 1 (Physical) and it played /looked great - even before the massive update. I also don't really like the idea of owning a trilogy over two different consoles - unless it can't be helped.

Re: Rumour: Silent Hill 2 May Be Coming To Switch 2 As Its Exclusivity Window Ends

Smerd

@Razzy
ok - who says my feelings were hurt? And I never said anything about install base - just that 3rd party developers like Square and Capcom are starting to get excited at the prospects of having their games run great on a nice piece of hardware.

The point was that, as many people pointed out, people are complaining about GKC on a thread about a different topic - Like a game that could come out on a system they have or are looking at getting soon.

As I mentioned, you do you. Vote with your wallet - but I think if people want to beat that hairy balls drum of yours (or theirs) they are just going to end up unhappy overall and maybe miss something that they've never played before.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?

Smerd

I voted no.... I own 3D All stars on Switch already and the cost is too much given the list of games I still have never played before that are coming up.
I purchased 3D All Stars because I no longer own an N64 and sold MK64 years before that (I have it on VC Wii) and I never owned Mario Sunshine. 2 out of the 3 games to own physically for the first time in years or for the first time ever + ability to play Galaxy on the current system was a good deal. This version, although they look great, I can't pay full price for given I now own 2 physical versions of Galaxy 1 and a physical of Galaxy 2.

Re: Rumour: Silent Hill 2 May Be Coming To Switch 2 As Its Exclusivity Window Ends

Smerd

I hear this game is good. Maybe I'll play it for the first time on my Switch 2 if it comes out.

What's this? Another GKC comment?
Listen up people:
You have to get over this now. You can't complain. By all means you do what you want to do - and buy want you want to buy. There is no wrong answer here as this conversation is right up there with "physical vs digital". I'm a physical collector myself, so understand what I'm about to say comes from someone who prefers the physical format. I'm getting DQ I and II remake on switch myself..

There are are a few undisputed Facts this generation for Nintendo Switch 2 Owners:

1. Switch 2 is the most powerful hybrid system Nintendo has developed and 3rd party developers are starting to get excited.

2. Developers follow the money. They will save whenever they can to make more. Period. They will also follow trends in what consumers buy - again - following the money.

3. Media Technology, presently, for this hybrid is limited. IE: Cartridges (cards), can only hold so much and load so fast. They are also expensive.

If you want a Nintendo Switch 2, you need to understand something - it's unfortunate but physical loving gamers can't have the cake and eat it too this time.

Case 1:
"I want to play FFVII remake and it's sequels on my Portable / Hybrid.."
Answer:
GREAT! The Switch 2 can do this - it's too big to fit on a 64 Gig cartridge but at least you have 2 ways of owning/playing this (GKC or Digital)

Case 2
"Why is Tetris on a Switch 2 GKC"
Answer:
.... See fact number 2.
**To elaborate, Nintendo have created a doubled edge sword. This sword cuts deep both ways and it sucks just as much as it works... Nintendo created the GK Card so that it's better than a code in a box - it's for people who want to have something in their hand and they have the option to sell it. We know this. It's been explained a million times. The sucky part is that because it exists, 3rd party publishers will go to it ... because of reasons we also know.

Nintendo fans get to play games like RE9 on their system of choice and that's exciting.
Why is this (GKC stuff) happening??
See reason 2 or 3.
Love it? That's great.
Hate it? That's ok too... Vote with your wallet.

It's reality, and until Fact 3 gets updated, I don't see a change anytime soon. Let the community get excited for high quality games that in the past Nintendo fans could only dream of.

Re: The Entire Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy Is Making Its Way To Switch 2

Smerd

@ChaoticIgnorance

You get the response because we are not Square Enix... I'm not happy about a game key card or any cartridge that doesn't have the game 100% on it, but that's the trade off for this hand held. Games are just going to get bigger and compression can only go so far.

Most companies are not going to jump through hoops to sacrifice game quality / their reputation (this is an extreme case only) to fit it into portable physical media. Not enough gamers like us to justify it - at least in their eyes.

The Switch spoiled Nintendo fans - to the extreme. Nintendo created a wonderful piece of hardware that could handle almost any game at a physical level but it's successor simply can't do that. I really think it's an ASS move to put smaller games on an empty cart - but we don't have much choice given the tech we have to put larger games on it.... at least Square is including some extra stuff with that version. (cards/ reversible covers etc).

Think of how expensive a new PS5/6 would be if you could take a piece of it right off of the system and play the games in your hand after installing the full gave from their disk?
Maybe one day...

Re: Random: Watch The Moment A Delivery Man Apparently Chucks A Switch 2 Up A Customer's Path

Smerd

You never know what you are going to get - I had my system / memory card delivered to my work for a reason. Person to person..
....
Then I forgot to change the address for the Gamecube controller and had to race home (6min away) to bring it inside the house luckily they had placed it nicely by the front door.

Porch Pirates/Bad weather should be something to worry about - not who is delivering the actual package. What a butt wipe.

Re: Round Up: The Previews For Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Are In

Smerd

I'm not going to get the switch 2 version - I have DQIII on Switch Cartridge so I will get the Switch 1 Version to complete the set...

If they later release SW 2 upgrade packs - then I may bite and download later on but when a trilogy is broken up over 2 game releases and 2 systems why go for the SW2 ver when you have the original on SW1?
Unless of course - you went digital as your choice then it clearly doesn't matter.

Sigh..... Now if a Chrono Trigger remake happens...I may just buy both versions lol.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Ghosting Switch 1 To Save Yourself For Switch 2?

Smerd

@Drummertist
yep... same age same situation. However to overcome the problem I sold a mint GCN controller and 2 games I have not played in years. The $$ = free switch 2 MKW Bundle + free Capcom Fighting Collection 2 on Switch Reduce Reuse Re Game.
I believe with that, I have probably bought my last Nintendo Game system for quite some time.... by next gen the kids will be old enough to save up and buy their own if they want to..

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

Smerd

@Stwert

Ok yes good point - but you still need the PS5 disk inserted while playing a physical copy correct? It might as well be digital.

Switch being a handheld needed to do cards of some sort as we all know. But they are expensive - Third party publishers had no other choice in the N64 days. Well they did choose - they chose Sony.
The sad thing is that unlike the N64, this new console is already popular - and Nintendo should offer its fellow game developers as many cart size options as possible.
I also think digital should be cheaper No questions asked. No box no print cover no cartridge. That has never made sense to me.

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

Smerd

I've debated about going digital for Switch 2 for awhile now... However I really don't know if I'm ready. It's very true that PS5 have been doing this Key Card thing for years - It just wasn't called that. If we want fancy games with faster speeds, the reality is digital will need to be at the forefront in most cases.

I think I will continue to do a mix although it seems digital may be more often than not this gen. I will buy Physical games that are 100% on the cart but just do other games digitally when they are on sale. Convenience is a big plus for digital - and I don't see that when a game takes up precious memory in your system but you still need a cart inserted to play it.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Name Link When You're Playing A Zelda Game?

Smerd

Wow I’m shocked so many people used Link.
I guess I always named him by my first name because it made it feel more immersive to me. I played the Legend of Zelda at a friends house but I really got into the series when I rented A Link to the Past. After calling the “hero” by my name it just kinda stuck and I’ve never called him Link unless there was no other option.

Re: Review: Metroid: Other M (Wii)

Smerd

I'm renting the game now...You can't go into this game thinking it's a follow up to Prime... (in the way it plays). Controls are tight, blasting is fun, and enjoyment of this game is for real. I mean.. at least so far... Give this game a try! You have an opportunity to play something different using the famous female Nintendo hero...go play now.
