Re: Video: Warm Up for the SNES Mini With This 16-bit Tech Showcase

Sionyn

Awesome video. Hats off to the creator.

I'm a bit on face with these mini consoles. Don't get me wrong there awesome its just i feel nintendo isn't doing these games justice with their half baked attempt at emulating these games (both nes mini and virtual console). Nintendo isn't willing to make an investment and do it properly that is a travesty to those awesome games.

Nintendo has access to the design documents schematics and source code of those games and hardware which any emulation dev would kill for. Instead were offered a official emulators that's worse than the current open source emulations which are free more accurate and offer better features. Nintendo is a position to offer something better at 80 pounds this thing is way overpriced for a product that cost them less than $10 to make.

Yet despite all those short comings i want one really bad.

Re: First Impressions: Kicking Off With FIFA 18 on the Nintendo Switch

Sionyn

more useless shovelware. EA just get greedier and greedier ever year. Buy a game at full price and pay again with FIFA Ultimate Team.To me its wrong to charge for a game and then add freemium transactions, it should be one or the other.

The only football game i've ever enjoyed was River City Soccer Hooligans.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Is Officially One Of The Best Games Of All Time

Sionyn

From what ive seen and played its meh. Different from other zelda's more of a cheep skyrim clone and to be honest a very half arsed for zelda game.

its not Majora's Mask or ocarina of time and dosen't pretend to be Its easily forgettable good story a nice try but not the zelda we deserve.

Then there's the issues of reviews:
Nintendo is paying youtubers and/or reviewers to give good reviews. Like, has anyone counted all the youtubers and reviewers who got switch and botw for free? after-all you don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Re: 3DS System Version 11.0.0-33 is Now Available

Sionyn

all it was more address space randomization was added or turned on for Oceania of time and cubic ninja meaning payloads need to be changed for those specific titles.

pm-module was updated to blacklist "http:C" and "soc:U". pm module handles the 3ds qr code and also broke cubic ninja exploit.

there is a performance hit with aslr. though performance impact of ASLR is difficult to quantify because the quantity and size of the images need to be taken into account.

i wonder what impact this has performance say the lack of snes emulator on the 3ds for instance. but it is interesting watching this cat and mouse game on such a interesting piece of hardware.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Virtual Console Revolution Must Wait as We Pay Once More for SNES Games

Sionyn

I totally agree this is nothing more than a ploy to drive sales of new 3ds. The new 3ds has sold well so I guess this dick move is sorta make for the short-comings of the 3ds. The 3DS has a good enough cpu and gpu to easily emulate the SNES stuff its lazyness again just the gba virtual console. Technically I kinda sorta get it nintendo like to use low clockrates on their portable consoles to achieve a better battery life (they also use quirky optimization routines).

It used to do this because the relationship between power and speed is not linear. Running at 50% speed does not mean it only takes 50% as much power. The curve generally tends to be exponential in nature, so you might save 20% power by lowering the speed to 90%, but going down to 80% might only increase the power savings to 30%, and 50% speed might save only 35% power. Thus, if you run at 90% speed, it might take you 10% longer to do a task, but that is more than made up for by the 20% power savings. Trying to run at 50% speed though ends up costing you more energy since you spend twice as long but only save 35% ( 2 x 0.65 = 1.3x the energy ).

Simply they choose battery life over performance so why not just up the clockrate as need no would mind this plus you get the best of both worlds. Though I sure this isn't the issue here.

As a service the virtual console sucks overpriced and dosen't off much compared to other more mature emulators. Lets take the oracle games for example all you have to do flip one bit in memory to access gba features which most mature gameboy emulators can do. Was flipping one bit really that hard for nintendo.

They charge a heavy premium for virtual console games, which quite frankly are the laziest emulator implementations I have ever seen. Just take a look what M2 have done with the 3DS classics they put nintendo to shame.

Step up nintendo.

And as for the price and buy things titles more than once. Yeah that totally sucks.

Maybe nintendolife could run a campaign to have parity if you buy one game once you have a license to use it on current and future nintendo devices like IOS and android pc mac do to.

Nintendo are exploiting us so let stand up.

Re: 3DS System Update 10.5.0-30 is Now Available

Sionyn

no it wasn't this has nothing to do with sd card corruption issues. Nintendo tsl cert expired this used to provide https encryption for nintendos core services like nintendo id. thats all that was updated they changed from a VeriSign cert with CyberTrust, those 'corruption' issues are likely to with a out of date cert.

So that explains the problems logging in using software that uses nintendo id services as well as nintendo badges their linked to you're nintendo id also.

its not corrupt as such the 3ds gets a bit paranoid when its data fails authentication checks. nintendo screwed up

Re: Wii U System Version 5.5.1 is Now Available

Sionyn

One thing I always admire about nintendo hradware was their security model. I love the idea of having a separate computer in a system used as as security processor. It just makes sense. The security processor prime responsibility is for code verification and also controlling use and access to hardware independently of the main processor.

The recent wii u system update was to patch a bug in wii u web browser. This bug served as a entry point which then could exploit the wii u security processor allowing full unrestricted access to all the system.

The odd thing is the wii u and 3ds browser both use webkit a library web parser used to make a webbrowser both chrome and apple use this. The oddpart is the exploits used to exploit both the 3ds and wii u browsers are old bugs that have been fixed. What the hell were nintendo thinking not patching old bugs in 3ds and wii u web browsers, instead only fixing them when someone exploited them ?

Thats just crazy ninitendo its like shooting you're self in the foot

Re: Poor Odds of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth Coming to Wii U as Nicalis Says It's "Not Much More Powerful Than a PS Vita"

Sionyn

@peach64 not really infact powerpc not only is a superior architecture to intels architecture, but it makes little difference here because of highlevel language used.

I dislike the x86 architecture. It's a huge kludge of backwards compatibility, bleh! just a horrible architecture that should been left in 80's

if anything its laziness and/or sloppy programming mostly due highlevel programming and ignorance with the respect to cpu architecture because abstraction hides whats really happing at a electrical level.

Re: Sources Suggest Nintendo NX Is A Fusion Of Home And Mobile Hardware Powered By "Industry-Leading" Tech

Sionyn

@Nintendian
why would need a 128 bit processor a A 64-bit register can store over18 quintillion different values. What you want is pipelined processor that has huge caches, processors work really fast, the major bottle neck comes from loading data in and out big caches = better performance. the size of processors general purpose registers mean very little.

This is what microsoft did with the xbox one and 360 had processors with huge caches thats 360 wiped the ps3 and why the xbox one wipes the floor on ps4 too, sure it cost Microsoft silicon real estate (not alone the cost of producing a die like that) meaning they had reduce the amount of vector units the gpu had. but from performance stand point a bigger cache will always give you better performance than adding more logic.

The big move from 32bit 64bit was a memory addressing issue, in that you could have no more memory addresses 4GB including the addressing of ram and other devices.

Besides The ICL 2900 has had a 128-bit accumulator, and its instruction set included 128-bit floating points. The size of the computers acutecture rarely has anything to do with it performance.

Re: Review: 3D Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (3DS eShop)

Sionyn

I think its all a era of mystery is why hidden place zone holds such a fond place in our hearts. I first came aware of it back in 1994 from sonic guide book written by one its designers, in the middle of the book it had the gloss picture pages whitest the rest of the book was printed on that usual horrible paper paper back books are printed on.

It mentioned how they were able to get to the hidden palace zone through the use of gameshark like device, but that wasn't really correct, because yes the final retail version of sonic 2 dose include a place header and level for the hidden palace zone its corrupted.

Forward a few years to 1999 a chap called Simon wai posted a rom dump of pirate cartridge which was a beta of sonic 2 stolen from some toy fair in new york were it was been shown off behind closed doors.

The simon wai prototype is a incomplete version of sonic containing only 4 playable levels Aquatic Ruin Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, Hill Top Zone and Emerald Hill Zone. However a further unfinished levels can be accessed through a level select screen. Including hidden place zone (almost complete) woodzone and genocide city both of which are empty. The original screen shots you have seen of the hidden palace zone are most like from the simon wai prototype.

Its a shame they were cut from sonic 2 and I would of liked to see m2 restore them.
Still it remains the definitive version sonic 2 just a shame that kuckles isnt playable and the missing zones.

It would have been very nice to have a 'complete' version of sonic 2

As for sonic 3 some has mentioned here before that the reason SEGA shys away from sonic 3 and knuckles is because music licensing wackko jacko had some input into those games and therfore has some credit and I guess royalties from it.

Re: Apple Just Announced Its Own Wii, Almost A Decade After Nintendo

its the apple way steal ideas steal software from the open source community an then pass it off as your own, apple are like a legitimate popstation manufacture.

Apple is just trendy atm like nokia once was
the only good apple dose is sell the same consumer grade stuff
only at a extortionate price.

Re: Review: 3D Gunstar Heroes (3DS eShop)

Sionyn

i kinda get it when people say it expensive for what it is, considering the pricing of other sega classic collections.

However what your getting easily justifies the price all these 3D classics easily are the definitive versions simply because of loving detail M2 have put put into these remakes. The gigadrive architecture they built for the megadrive games is awe inspiring, it show what 3ds is cable of.

Make no mistake these are not simple emulator these are rebuilt from ground up. One attention to detail is the sound especially because of the difficulty of emulating the sound synthesiser of the mega drive i haven't seen a emulator that dose a good job of it, M2 however absolutely nailed it shows how they strive not just to get the game working but also to get it working accurately.

sure there not cheep but
make no mistake these just aren't simple ports they go far beyond at £4.49 these are easily a steal. its just a shame it stops after sonic 2.

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Turns to YouTube App As Latest Workaround for 'Tubehax'

Sionyn

its amazing how ignorant people are about the hombrew community and hacking culture in general as well as its noble origins dirtied by clueless journalists and lame stream media.

if wasn't for the homebrew community you would have a firkin 3DS, its cpu was built in Cambridge by a hombrew computer club are they evil ?

let alone the hombrewers who built software this website uses as well as most of the infrastructure that makes up the net. prehapse you guys should take a look and see how the homebrew culture made the world you have to day possible instead of spreading FUD about a community and culture you nothing about.

Re: Nintendo Launches Beta of 'Creators Program' for YouTube

Sionyn

@BensonUii

you have no understanding of copyright.
also piracy is pillaging ships on the high seas nothing to do with file sharing as well as your complete lack of understanding of both the origin copyright and its legal fiction.

my cow analogy still stands nintendo have no right to tell what you can and can't do with something you buy, even though they try to migrate this with pseudo contracts its very thin ice when you think a contract can abstain you from following the law.

what it dose show is the shabby tricks corporation will steep too to abstain them self from laws which they rather not follow.

Re: Nintendo Launches Beta of 'Creators Program' for YouTube

Sionyn

first have some monster hunter 4 demo codes

A076MSX409X84X9T
A076NTHA0V2DK8R5
A076YUGG0A9S5TNF

The thing is nintendo sells software they even call it software, they have no business telling what you can or cant do with that software. Copyright only covers distribution its a archaic and unfair law that only favours people with power not creatives or consumers.

who sues people making tutorials for other types of software microsoft apple ?
NONE!!!!! its none of Nintendo business what you do with the software you buy from them, such is what happens when buy buy something... you own it.

for example if sell you cow, and tell the cow is only allowed to milked, the next day i find you started to make cheese with the milk from the cow, i go and 'update' the cow killing it in process and your told it ok because you agreed to it by singing my slimy terms and conditions, which i hasten to add violate your rights as a consumer.

game console makers have it to good for too long. They run monopolies on their console and some how getaway with it, that is unfair. So its no surprise why the likes of nintendo and other pull off shabby tricks like this.

yes nintendo aren't the only one who do stuff like this, but its time to speak out against companies who abuse their position of power.

bad move nintendo i expected better from you guys. even microsoft hasn't steeped to such lows.

Re: Wii U Owner Proves That Rejecting The End-User License Agreement Locks The System

Sionyn

EULA are a Gray area at best, nintendo is capitalising on this by trying to erode our consumer rights by making us agree to what they think could be a legal binding agreement unfortunately a contract can't do that.

for a simple analogy its like me selling you a cow, tell you its only to be used to produce milk, i then find out that your using the cow that sold you, which you now own to make cheese. During the night i kill your cow because you have decided to use in a fashion ive decided you can't.

Its not up to nintendo what you do with stuff buy off them, and certainly isn't right morally or legally that a eula can used to null their potential malfeasance. There other issues too most people don't read licence agreements, it could be construed that nintendo intends to trick people to entering a contract with them and most certainly is illegal, since it widely accepted that most people don't understand legal jargon let lone read the agreements and that self is enough to make a eula null and void.

Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Brings Circle Pad Doom in Japan

Sionyn

bubbling paint and now defective circle pads this is not the quality you expect from nintendo. i took nothing but utmost care with my 3ds and still the paint work on 3ds bubbled off.

nintendo needs to better fuzz testing of their products not just function testing maybe then these issues would not arisen.

Re: 3DS Homebrew Channel Reportedly in Final Stages of Development

Sionyn

hacking is wrong.....

ok please throw away your tv smart phone oh never connect to internet again. To those factious idiots who don't seem to understand ALL of your modern technology is thanks to homebrewers and hackers (go and look the real term hacker).

you won't believe how much of your modern life has is built upon hacker and homebrew movement including the webserver that hosts nintendolife as well as the countless of routers and switches that serve your internet traffic, time guys learnt some respect for the people who enable to you have these nice things who often develop these things in their own spare time.

Re: 3DS System Update 8.1.0-18 is Now Live

Sionyn

@johndevine that sucks that should always be nintendo responsibility to fix machines damaged from updates. Its not hard to implement disaster recovery option for when things go sour every product i build i allways design in disaster recovery solution.

Flashing firmware is risky its a no brainer to add disaster recovery that even a enduser can use

Re: 3DS System Update 8.1.0-18 is Now Live

Sionyn

nope the encryption referers to nintendo counter measure against gateway whos 4.5 firmware is not compatible with new encryption with in 7.0. encryption has nothing to do with the way the http service applet works, its just stored on 3ds internal flash encrypted thats all.

this is likely a counter measure against a homebrew developer who has a new working exploit that is keen to release it. so far nintendo hasn't found the exploit he is using.

how showed off his workable exploit using http loader applet so it seem nintendo recent move was to try and counter it (they could of also found a another serious bug that lead to privilege escalation ). The strange thing is his POC code only ran in usermode, when i would of thought he kernel level access to bypass all verification junk.

Re: UK Government Effectively Decriminalises Download Piracy, Raising Importance of System Security

ever borrowed a book ? CD ? Game ? used the library ?

Your no better than anyone who share files over the internet,
Understand that the argument of copyright monopolies is a lossed sale, however that presumes a file share would buy the anything see the fallacy of the copyright monopoly ?

Imagen the same for M&M suing anybody who shared their M&M. Copyright monopolies fear the loss of control and will do anything to stop it, including allowing PRIVATE BUSINESS to make laws that benefit them selves only, hell bent hampering human progress for their antiquated business models.

would you let a washingline installer sue whitegood manufactures for making his services redundant with better technology ????

In fact people who share files over the internet SPEND MORE than those who don't a uk government white paper found.

version string file was updated (shows the system software version)
nzone hotspot list was updated
eShop mint applet(used for accessing eShop outside of the eShop application)
All non-SAFE_MODE system modules were updated.

system error applet was updated (shows the error has occurred screen)
this is were it gets interesting this breaks booting 8.0.0-18 on physical on or below 4.x systems where the key-data for the v7.0 crypto wasn't initialized correctly. This means it breaks getways 3ds flash card thing so it can't spoofing firmware 8.x or above until they find a work around.

Re: Wii Owners Are Upgrading To PlayStation 4, Claims Sony

Sionyn

their kidding them selves the only reason ps4 was selling more than xbox is simply price, more over there not doing all that well both sony and microsoft are not selling many consoles thanks to their high prices. The affordability of a xbox 360 was the single reason why 360 was so popular.

The marketing idiots Microsoft neglected this and wondered why xbox one had poor sales, these highly paid idiots could see that coming....

Microsoft and sony have little to offer this generation their just PC what do they have to offer that different ? the wii u gives you experience that you can not get anywhere else were as sony and microsoft offering are the pc and cheaper.
