Earlier this month, the hotly anticipated 3DS System Update introducing HOME Menu themes went live across Europe and North America. Additionally, this update activated the new Theme Shop, enabled screenshots of the 3DS HOME Menu to be taken, added a 3DS Image Share shortcut button, and also improved eShop navigation.
Now, Nintendo’s latest system update for the 3DS has arrived. Version 9.2.9-20 (add an E or U to the end of that depending on where you live) puts sweet stability back in the spotlight, further improving that area along with the usual 'minor adjustments'.
The official changelog is below:
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
As we've alluded to in the past, this type of update may loosely translate to fixing minor bugs, and locking off any potential hacking exploits.
Are you excited by how stable your 3DS has become over the past month, or were you hoping for a little more after the HOME Menu themes update?

More Stability, indeed!!!
Cool
I think this stable is better.

Why can't I hold all this stability?!
Oh wait, yes I can. In the palm of my hand.
When “Download Later” software is waiting to download, I now get a message on the home screen (at the bottom of the top screen) about putting the system to sleep to resume download.
How long has this existed?
This thing's as stable as a rock bolted to the ground.
Ever since the Theme Shop update, my 3DS has been slow, and the home screen acts weird, like any time I open a folder and then exit out of it, the entire screen is shifted over. Hopefully this new update will fix that.
I got up this morning thinking that this update would let me buy SMT IV instantly. Turns out it won't. Can't wait to purchase it this afternoon.
@Maladroit Do you have the original theme or something else, maybe loading a bigger theme makes the thing slower.
After getting the update, I got a message in Smash telling me about the new smash update :/
I use the free black theme, I haven't bought any of the other ones yet
The 3DS is so stable I haven't had a horse escape in months.

I'm sure its really Nintendo's revenue stream that is being stabilized through these updates.
Stability is filler.
The 3DS is now so stable that my marriage (to it) is unbreakable.
There was an update for Pokemon X/Y to v.1.3 too, I didn't hear anyone shout about that! Glad to know my 'mon are more stable too. X-D
Why would you want more than stability?
Well this time we got minor adjustments too, I'm so excited
@Jazzer94
Haha! I love it!
@SanderEvers my little dyslexic Sableye was over the moon about it.
In fairness, the PSN has been super-unstable over the past month. Stable is better
Why is this featured? It's just some update that we can't even see or notice.
That sweet sweet stability, I was feeling a little unstable myself today, but now that I know my 3DS is slightly more stable than it was yesterday? I'm about as stable as I can get. Wonder when the next stability update is though?
@TheFireRed I hope you enjoy that game. It was my personal GotY last year. If only I could re-live it once again.
STABILITY! I feel good about this. Yet, I need more. They better give us another update with more stability soon.
Ohhh yesssss my monthly stability fix, how can I live without it!!!
Apparently it genuinely is stability, it just updates the home menu.
No evidence of flashcarts or exploits getting patched.
Is it just me or has this update cause the 3ds to shut down very slow from the home menu. It's OK when running an app if you hit the power button.
My body is stable.
[stable jokes]
Awesome, my wildest stability dreams have come true
Stability baby....
My eshop looks (ans sounds) different. Is because this, or a previous update? (it's been a while since my last purchase...)
@Tamalesyatole That was from a different update, I think it was the one that gave us the big changes in the main screen(Like changing themes/backgrounds and such).
I'm gonna go update now, my 3DS must be very stable!
Iwata's return to Nintendo HQ has provided stability for the company and they are simply passing it along to us, the consumers. Thank you, Nintendo.
Keep them hackers out! I used to be "homebrew" supporter but changed my ways. I'll gladly take a 5 min break from playing to keep down piracy.
I live for STABILITY! That's why I bought the 3DS.
how many stability updates did the snes or n64 need?
more like "further efforts to block flashcards/homebrew/piracy" xD
although the main flashcard companies keep updating their flashcards to support the latest nintendo firmware.(i'm looking at you gateway, nintendo has already given up on nds flashcards)
it's a stupid cat and mouse game,i think it's impossible for nintendo to completely block piracy, users always find a way around the locked doors.....
Ever since my girlfriend updated her 3DS, it shuts off by itself (despite having a full battery) and resets its time and date. Hoping this new update will fix that.
Shulk is really feelin' the stability.
The ole stability.
2stable4me
@Goginho Because everyone around NL like to have fun with the "stability" updates. I love reading the comments on these updates, makes my morning.
Stability is code word for "blocking hacks"
Do they have the Animal Crossing themes already?
...Actually, yes they do! Awesome!
Oh man, that stability fix has stopped my sweating for now. Until the next one, that is , lol. Bring it on baby.
Maybe this will help fix the sd card issue with smash bros I get every so often.
You can expect more updates too 0x25 key has been leaked which has opened the door to a new flashcard.
I had to install it before I could purchase a theme. Maybe related to purchases?
Phew. I mean for a while I was terrified of my system not being stable enough, but this has quelled my fear for now.
Stabiiiiilliiiiiityyyy!
I love the stability that I have with Nintendo. We were made for each other
Truth be told, I felt as if my 3DS had gotten a little sluggish after that last home menu theme update. Took a few seconds for my icons to load on the lower screen.
I assume this one will fix those issues and improve my handheld's performance.
Another patch, thanks to the "homebrew" hacktivists.
Why does Nintendo even feel the need disguise their anti piracy attempts as "stability improvements". Stop taking your audience for idiots.
@Vriess But that is not blocked. (At least smealem says that anyway.) The new flashcard I bet is what they are after.
i swear, stabilty in updates has become a running gag on this site
As they should be because not saying what they're doing is shady and comes off as a waste of time since they block some services until you do update. The other guys tend to put a list online on what those stability fixes and additions are.
