I gave it a 7. I love the elder scrolls, been playing since the late 90's, and I love Oblivion. However, the performance, while not abysmal, is definitely poor on the Switch 2; I'd have taken a bit more of a visual downgrade if it didn't mean dipping down to 10 FPS during some battles, for example.

I believe the fact that you can play without the expensive peripheral will make this game instead of break it. I was interested in the game from the get-go but not interested in buying a plastic guitar (I had a bunch back in the Guitar Hero days and they all kept breaking), so this is right down my alley.

Oh, it's Overwatch 2 but renamed as Overwatch. Pass.

@JackieCMarlow @jorel262 (foreword: I work in the games industry). This can happen if the development team behind a game/entity is acquired, but the rights to the IP are not. This is done often to avoid companies buying dev teams and immediately letting them go as a way to get the IP. Most likely the persons/entities who actually own the IP of the game were laid off, and chose to disallow Epic to continue publishing the game.

I've been playing on 30FPS mode (60FPS just hurts my head in games for some reason) and I'm shockingly surprised how well it's holding up. I've been playing on Xbox One for, well, years now, so I have something to compare with. Some textures are rough, text could benefit from some extra AA, but honestly I am very, very satisfied.

Letting Cyberpunk go uncensored which features extremely-gratuitous nudity, but censoring this is hypocritical. What the *****.

I was such a huge fan of Starfield when it came out, and I was so hyped about the rumoured Switch 2 release to play on the go (I travel a lot for work), but after the Skyrim Switch 2 release I'm not so sure anymore...

Personally, while I loved the New Horizons fireworks, the New Leaf ones are the ones I think about the most.

@Metazoxan I disagree. I've been playing NMS since launch. I've been playing Starfield since launch. They're both very different games, with very different themes and goals.

I'm reminded of some Mega Evolution leaks that happened about 5 months ago. They were... accurate so far. Huh.

I don't remember who said it, but the core problem with Pokemon SV's visuals was never about quality, it was about art direction. The world feels both messy and sterile, no matter the draw distance and FPS.

Oh I'm so for this. Been a fan of Rune Factory since the first, can't wait to see how this game turns out. Also the price is honestly very reasonable IMO.

I was planning on getting Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble when it launched, but seeing just how far they're pushing for paid DLC even before launch... well, hard pass for me now, thanks.

@rainbowtick This is the first time I formally requested a refund from Nintendo. This was unacceptable, ESPECIALLY since the original game had the option (source: I still have the original games )

DON'T GET BATTLEFRONT IF YOU PLAY WITH INVERTED Y CONTROLS. There are no ways of inverting Y aiming, and if you're like me that makes the game completely unplayable. Embarrassing that a game released in 2024 doesn't have that option.

@PKBegley Alex usually does a very good job of writing unbiased reviews. Perhaps this review IS biased, but it would be unorthodox.

@NIN10DOXD I highlighted the last line, but let me rephrase. Usually when reading a review I can guess the final score perfectly, especially with Alex's reviews. That said, when reading I thought "well he had some fun, but not much... I estimate 6/10". The final score caught me by surprise, and I can't help but wonder why the score didn't match the tone of the review as well as it did in the past.

@Maelwolf A fair argument. However, I don't think we can talk about a vocal minority when they got #GameFreakLied to trend worldwide... Just food for thought.

I find this review a bit bizarre to be honest. I was always happy with the reviews on this site because they felt like they gave a proper score to a game based on the reviewer's feelings. I don't care that the game got 8/10 here, what I care about is that reading through the article I thought the game would get 6/10, or 7/10 max. I don't understand the score, it feels inflated arbitrarily; it doesn't sound like Alex had a great time with the game, but mostly that it was just "ok".

The closing line reads "The niggling issues are impossible to ignore, then, but on the whole, Pokémon Sword and Shield are a solid start to the HD generation of Pokémon games, but there's ample room for improvement with the next outing." That doesn't sound like an 8/10 to me.

It's a real shame sonic characters wouldn't possibly be able to race without cars...

I have to say mine is "The Morrowind Prophecies", both GOTY and non-GOTY versions. While it's essentially a guide, it's clear (to me at least) it was written by people who are passionate about the game, including small jokes and insights that make it a joy to just... read. While the game itself is so fun to play, this guide is just so fun to read, and I think that's what it's all about, in the end.
