@BranJ0 sounds good. I love Fire Emblem. I’ve only played Radiant Dawn and Three Houses, but I love the old school tactical battles. I can’t bring myself to purchasing an old 3DS to play the other games (and not tech savvy enough to install ROMs on my iPad). It would be nice if Nintendo either remastered or emulated them on the switch.
Graphically, I can’t imagine it’s going to be a huge jump...it still needs to work in handheld mode and run for several hours on the battery.
I imagine we might see some quality of life improvements like screen brightness, longer battery life, better sound, improvements to the Joycon, etc...
Not sure what the need would be for 4K graphics in handheld, and why go through the trouble to support 4K if it only works in docked mode? I dunno, I’d be surprised if the graphics got a boost. Maybe 1080HD/60fps in handheld? Better refresh rate?
Underwhelming. Feels a bit like Nintendo is holding some cards too close to the vest while developing whatever comes after Switch. It’s becoming the platform of remasters and re-releases.
The Switch has been a runaway success, I’m wondering if they’re holding off on sharing upcoming AAA exclusives to line up with their next hardware iteration? Similar to how Breath of the Wild was delayed for Wii U so it could launch with the Switch.
@BlubberWhale Yes, I do. It’s definitely more fun with multiplayer, but it’s as fun as any other Mario game in single player, IMO. It’s similar to Mario Odyssey in the casual feel to it.
If I’m enjoying a game, I’ll gladly pay a premium to continue to do so. What I can’t stand though is when a game constantly nickels and dimes you to make progress or remain competitive. It will be interesting to see Ubisoft’s new model going forward.
After Super Mario 3D World, what big releases has Nintendo confirmed? Seems like they’d want to have something imminent?
I guess FE: Three Houses was pretty similar. We knew nothing about the details until a few months before it was released in the summer. Nintendo likes to tease way in advance , then give a killer demo a few months before the game is due to release.
As a 10 year old kid, I used to keep all my original packaging and instructions for my NES games. Then the genesis comes along, I stop playing the old NES games, and think I could really clear up some space for these cool clam shell genesis games. So I throw out all the old boxes and instructions 🤦♂️ I knew I’d want them again someday too...
Easy to forget the Wii was also a smash hit prior to the Wii U being a total flop. I think Nintendo was too hesitant to move on from the success of the Wii, they released the Wii U too late and right on the cusp of PS4 and Xbox One.
Unless the graphics are mind blowing or the online community is incredible, I don’t like the requirement of being tethered to a high speed connection at all times to run the game.
Super Mario 3D World is my #1 game on any platform. Amazing game. Great to see DKC ranked so high, always surprised when it’s left out of Switch “best of” lists.
I loved the Wii U, wish Breath of the Wild was released earlier to give the console a shot.
This is my all-time favorite game. Best local co-op experience. Will likely purchase again. I was picturing Bowser’s Fury as an add-on bonus level. Sounds like it might be a little more than that?
There’s the obvious Mario, Zelda, Metroid and DKC games... some other must owns for the Wii: Sin and Punishment, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and House of the Dead Overkill.
Runner 3 is such a fun game. Kind of a rhythm platformer. The difficulty escalates quickly. Luckily, you can dial-in the difficulty in the game settings (I had to reduce the amount of enemies for each level).
Need to check out the Touryst. Love the art direction & style.
For the retro low-poly look, I prefer the style of something like Horizon Chase Turbo. BUT, this particular style works well for old school survival horror games. Something about the grungy low-res textures feels right.
Fun strategy game! I’ve sunk a ton of hours into the campaign mode and puzzles. Every time I try to play online, I find myself just waiting and waiting for a match. Never had any luck. Maybe this helps?
Bought the starter set and the King Boo expansion kit this weekend for my daughter (but also for me). It’s fun putting the pieces together and planning out a course. The companion app has a lot of potential
Actually doing a course run is pretty awkward. I would say that it’s interesting collaboration between LEGO and Nintendo, but I can’t see spending anymore money on kits or parts. $10 for a power-up suit is ridiculous. It’s just a hat and overalls, you’re not even making anything 🤣
I’d definitely play it again if it was remastered for the Switch. Having said that, this is my least favorite Mario game after Super Mario Bros 2. I remember the controls feeling cumbersome and it felt like there were too many cut scenes.
Love Gradius. But I’m fine with the NES versions. Still have my original cartridge, one on the NES classic, and I thought this was also on NES online? I’m covered if I ever have an itch for gradius.
My perfect 10's: Ghost n Goblins, Gradius, Punchout, Super Mario Bros 3, and Zelda.
Baseball Stars for NES is also a perfect 10, sadly it's not available anywhere. The NEO•GEO version is designed for people to pump it full of quarters, the original was the blueprint for franchise mode in sports games.
All this school stuff has me worried that it’s evolving into the Persona series. I’m not that interested in mundane conversations with NPCs. I’m just here for RPG tactics 😂
Love the Fire Emblem franchise. I’m sure I’ll be spending too much time with this.
@Krazzar Longer battery life is definitely handheld optimized. I’m surprised it wasn’t a main feature for Nintendo to promote. But after looking at the tech specs, appears it only adds a half hour of estimated battery life. Doesn’t seem really significant 😞
The magic of the Switch is you can play it however you want...at home on the TV, handheld away from the TV, on the go...so versatile. Now, you have a much less versatile option also called the Switch that muddies the waters. Why force customers to research differences between the two? Why call it a Switch at all? There’s nothing about this that switches modes.
I do not understand this. Okay, if you want to have a cheaper price point...makes sense to remove joy cons, rumble features, not include the dock, maybe a slightly smaller screen...but why shouldn’t this be able to connect to a docking unit??
I don’t understand what about this is “optimized for handheld” – doesn’t seem better than the original switch at all, slightly lower price point maybe?
Seems odd to me. Phasing our the 3DS/2DS and Nintendo wants a similar handheld around the same price point...but at $199, seems like you might as well just get a Switch. If this were $99, i’d understand.
Oh, come on....Nintendo is trolling us 😂What about classics like Baseball Stars, RC Pro Am, Ivan Stewart’s Super Off-Road???
I just want a working version of the original Baseball Stars. The batteries have long since died in my original copies and I’m no longer able to save a season, track stats, or progress players.
I’m in the same boat. I can appreciate that it’s well done...I just don’t get it. Feels like senseless button mashing to me.
Maybe it’s enhanced with local multiplayer co-op and I’ve been playing single player the whole time? Wish the strategy was easier to pickup. I’m missing it.
Glad that we finally have a July release date. But now that we have an updated game engine for Fire Emblem, couldn’t it be much faster to release sequels? I don’t understand why this isn’t like Dynasty Warriors – same engine, same battle system, new characters and levels... every few months there’s a new version out 😂
Unfortunately, the price point is just way too high for me to buy this 7-year old Wii U launch title. It’s a fun game and I’ve already played it a bunch, why couldn’t it be $19.99? Easy impulse buy.
I'd actually be interested in bigger, more ergonomically friendly joy con controllers that could attach to the console. By not attaching, these just seem like tiny controllers.
Yes, PS+ and Xbox Live are more expensive... but they also have a more robust online community along with achievement scores and trophies. Being a member also means access to "free" games or additional discounts through the online store.
Nintendo has come in and the right price point. It's a bare minimum offering at a bare minimum price.
I'm not online that much. The appeal to me was access to the NES library on the Switch. But, after trying to play a game like Gradius...the joy con controllers just don't cut it. And I'm not compelled to spend another $60 for NES controllers when I already have the NES Classic (not to mention my original NES).
Not grumbling, just not that excited. It doesn't seem like Nintendo has made it attractive enough.
I like how this keeps your library clean and limited only to games that you’ve purchased for your switch. That said, would be nice to “pin” a few of your favorites as shortcuts for quick access.
– Baseball Stars – Contra – RC Pro AM – Super Off Road – Tetris – TMNT: the arcade game – Dragon Warrior
Feels like it will take forever to see some of these games release. Imagine how much fun Baseball Stars would be with online league play...or Super Off Road with 4 players.

Re: Talking Point: Here's Why You Shouldn't Be Worried About The Rumoured Switch Pro's 720p Screen
Bigger, brighter screen. Deeper blacks. Better battery life. That’s all I’m hoping for...plus, upgrading to 4K when docked.

I never had a 3DS. Feel like I missed out on some good Fire Emblem games.
Re: R-Type Final 2 Won't Follow The "Bullet Hell" Trend Seen In Recent Shmups
I prefer the classic style that requires a bit of memory and skill. Bullet hell is too chaotic for me. Love what I’ve been seeing from this game.
Re: Video: Check Out Harvest Moon: One World's Launch Trailer
Wow, this game looks like an old PS1 game. Not sure if that was intentional.

Triangle Strategy demo... that’s it. Only thing I’m interested in.

All time favorite game. Best co-op experience. Buying this so I no longer need to have my Wii U set up 🙂

I never finished Sunshine. I remember it not feeling like a Mario game, so I lost interest. Curious how the game holds up after all this time.
Otherwise, I never had an N64 and never played Mario64. It’s gotta be good.

...surprised that Nintendo hasn’t released Super MARIO 3D World yet on Switch. We had so much co-op fun with that one on the Wii U.
