Re: Video: Ten 3DS Exclusives That Could Be Better On Nintendo Switch

Rygar

@BranJ0 sounds good. I love Fire Emblem. I’ve only played Radiant Dawn and Three Houses, but I love the old school tactical battles. I can’t bring myself to purchasing an old 3DS to play the other games (and not tech savvy enough to install ROMs on my iPad). It would be nice if Nintendo either remastered or emulated them on the switch.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch Pro' Console Still Aiming For 2021 Launch, According To Known Insider

Rygar

Graphically, I can’t imagine it’s going to be a huge jump...it still needs to work in handheld mode and run for several hours on the battery.

I imagine we might see some quality of life improvements like screen brightness, longer battery life, better sound, improvements to the Joycon, etc...

Not sure what the need would be for 4K graphics in handheld, and why go through the trouble to support 4K if it only works in docked mode? I dunno, I’d be surprised if the graphics got a boost. Maybe 1080HD/60fps in handheld? Better refresh rate?

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Then?

Rygar

Underwhelming. Feels a bit like Nintendo is holding some cards too close to the vest while developing whatever comes after Switch. It’s becoming the platform of remasters and re-releases.

The Switch has been a runaway success, I’m wondering if they’re holding off on sharing upcoming AAA exclusives to line up with their next hardware iteration? Similar to how Breath of the Wild was delayed for Wii U so it could launch with the Switch.

Re: Platinum Seems To Have Explained Why It's So Quiet About Bayonetta 3

Rygar

After Super Mario 3D World, what big releases has Nintendo confirmed? Seems like they’d want to have something imminent?

I guess FE: Three Houses was pretty similar. We knew nothing about the details until a few months before it was released in the summer. Nintendo likes to tease way in advance , then give a killer demo a few months before the game is due to release.

Re: Soapbox: Retro Nintendo Games Cost Too Much, But Nostalgia Is Expensive

Rygar

As a 10 year old kid, I used to keep all my original packaging and instructions for my NES games. Then the genesis comes along, I stop playing the old NES games, and think I could really clear up some space for these cool clam shell genesis games. So I throw out all the old boxes and instructions 🤦‍♂️ I knew I’d want them again someday too...

Re: Feature: Best Wii U Games

Rygar

Super Mario 3D World is my #1 game on any platform. Amazing game. Great to see DKC ranked so high, always surprised when it’s left out of Switch “best of” lists.

I loved the Wii U, wish Breath of the Wild was released earlier to give the console a shot.

Re: Community: What Do You Think Of Lego Super Mario, Then?

Rygar

Bought the starter set and the King Boo expansion kit this weekend for my daughter (but also for me). It’s fun putting the pieces together and planning out a course. The companion app has a lot of potential

Actually doing a course run is pretty awkward. I would say that it’s interesting collaboration between LEGO and Nintendo, but I can’t see spending anymore money on kits or parts. $10 for a power-up suit is ridiculous. It’s just a hat and overalls, you’re not even making anything 🤣

Re: Super Mario Sunshine Is Now 18 Years Old

Rygar

I’d definitely play it again if it was remastered for the Switch. Having said that, this is my least favorite Mario game after Super Mario Bros 2. I remember the controls feeling cumbersome and it felt like there were too many cut scenes.

Re: Reminder: Rate Your Favourite Nintendo Switch Online NES Games

Rygar

My perfect 10's: Ghost n Goblins, Gradius, Punchout, Super Mario Bros 3, and Zelda.

Baseball Stars for NES is also a perfect 10, sadly it's not available anywhere. The NEO•GEO version is designed for people to pump it full of quarters, the original was the blueprint for franchise mode in sports games.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Family Games

Rygar

My list of family fun games...

– MARIO Kart
– Donkey Kong Country
– Snipperclips
– Overcooked
– Yoshi
– Luigi’s mansion

...surprised that Nintendo hasn’t released Super MARIO 3D World yet on Switch. We had so much co-op fun with that one on the Wii U.

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September

Rygar

The magic of the Switch is you can play it however you want...at home on the TV, handheld away from the TV, on the go...so versatile. Now, you have a much less versatile option also called the Switch that muddies the waters. Why force customers to research differences between the two? Why call it a Switch at all? There’s nothing about this that switches modes.

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September

Rygar

I do not understand this. Okay, if you want to have a cheaper price point...makes sense to remove joy cons, rumble features, not include the dock, maybe a slightly smaller screen...but why shouldn’t this be able to connect to a docking unit??

I don’t understand what about this is “optimized for handheld” – doesn’t seem better than the original switch at all, slightly lower price point maybe?

Seems odd to me. Phasing our the 3DS/2DS and Nintendo wants a similar handheld around the same price point...but at $199, seems like you might as well just get a Switch. If this were $99, i’d understand.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Switch Online NES Games For The Month Of July

Rygar

Oh, come on....Nintendo is trolling us 😂What about classics like Baseball Stars, RC Pro Am, Ivan Stewart’s Super Off-Road???

I just want a working version of the original Baseball Stars. The batteries have long since died in my original copies and I’m no longer able to save a season, track stats, or progress players.

Re: Soapbox: I Don't 'Get' Smash Bros. And I Just Don't Know Why

Rygar

I’m in the same boat. I can appreciate that it’s well done...I just don’t get it. Feels like senseless button mashing to me.

Maybe it’s enhanced with local multiplayer co-op and I’ve been playing single player the whole time? Wish the strategy was easier to pickup. I’m missing it.

Re: Soapbox: We Like To Grumble, But Nintendo Switch Online Is Actually A Very Generous Offer

Rygar

Yes, PS+ and Xbox Live are more expensive... but they also have a more robust online community along with achievement scores and trophies. Being a member also means access to "free" games or additional discounts through the online store.

Nintendo has come in and the right price point. It's a bare minimum offering at a bare minimum price.

I'm not online that much. The appeal to me was access to the NES library on the Switch. But, after trying to play a game like Gradius...the joy con controllers just don't cut it. And I'm not compelled to spend another $60 for NES controllers when I already have the NES Classic (not to mention my original NES).

Not grumbling, just not that excited. It doesn't seem like Nintendo has made it attractive enough.
