Re: Review: Picross e5 (3DS eShop)

Rob_mc_1

There is one new feature worth mentioning. this one has 15x20 puzzels. The others have had upto 15x15.

But this play it safe on the eShop is an ongoing issue. While games like Tetris or Dr.Mario make sense to have on the eShop due to its simple game play and mechanics no longer warrant full releases there are some franchises that could be pushed farther. For example, Planet Puzzle League had a full release with the ds and now we have an express version on the 3ds with less features meanwhile Pokemon Puzzle league on the N64 had a 3d version that would look awesome on the 3ds and the 3ds is capable of running N64 games.

Likewise Picross had a 3d version on the ds where you chiseled block off a model and while most of that game play took place on the touch screen (Which would make 3d visuals on the 3ds a bit of a mute point) it was a new way to play the series.

Sure the eShop has saw some improvement for some franchises like in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series but I can see some franchises only getting watered down version from here on out. If this is what an eShop price point does to a franchise then I am saddened by the loss of retail version what actually tried to push boundaries.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows Off More 3DS HOME Themes as Smash Bros. and Pokémon Options Arrive in North America

Rob_mc_1

As nice as these themes were I would rather them make it where the themes you buy unlock parts and then we can take parts and assign them to different aspects of the theme.

I like the music from the wood burning one but then let me select the question block icons for folders mixed with the goomba background. It would be like making your own mario space. Then let us save presets.

I know it wont happen but I can dream.

Re: The 3DS Proves to Be a Popular Music Player in Japan

Rob_mc_1

I would and so would my wife. Unfortunately most power house smart phones do not have the battery life to sustain a music player hour hours. Since the 3DS Does not have a cellular radio to power it is a bit better. Even though the console has been criticized over battery in the past it does have to power 2 screens for more of a sustained time then a cell phone.

In sleep mode it would be a very long lasting music player.

I would like it,

Re: The Nintendo Wii U Is Better Value For Money Than Xbox One Or PS4, Says Reggie

Rob_mc_1

Nintendo needs to learn marketing. That is their biggest problem. The Cost to upgrade to a Wii U from a Wii is a lot cheaper then to go from an Xbox 360 to an Xbox One or a PS3 to a PS4. Backwards compatibility is the biggest price saving. Everyone else makes you re-buy all new controllers and at $50 a pop that is pricy.

Where is their marketing telling people the benefits of the newer versions. When they released Wii Sports Resort it came with more sports and new modes for existing sports. When I look at Wii Sports Club where is the incentive to buy it. I have Wii Sports Resort. How is Nintendo selling the upgrade?

I know Mario Kart 8 offers new levels and for $12 I can increase my tracks by 50% but I also follow and keep track of these things. Selling Mario Kart is easy. The tracks are the feature. In other software like Wii Fit U an addition of a pedometer is not enough to warrant an upgrade when the old glorified bathroom scale still works on the Wii with the original Wii Fit.

The casual market will not see the difference. When Wii fit came out they set up tents at various locations and demoed the product and show it to people. Once sold is not always sold. They do not always follow youtube channels or twitch. They need to go out there and sell it. I know the 66 year old grandma is not following their twitter feed. Put on the commercial during reruns of "Murder She Wrote".

Nintendo needs to get their marketing together. Education is needed.

I do not believe that ThomasBW84 thinks he is above you. The comments of "Review is wrong beyond description. This game is brilliant." and "Could I please be commissioned to have a real review published on your site for this title?" shows a lack of the art of criticism.

It is not appropriate to just say some one is flat out wrong. Constructive feed back is needed if you feeling something is incorrect. For example, Thomas referred to other games like Retro's DK and Ducktales at different points in the review to give a sense of how he felt the physics are to relate with the audience.

In the case of differing opinions a well thought out counter argument can convey how your impressions of the controls are.

Regardless of the industry the first impressions of the person you are selling to are never incorrect. Some people just do not like it and they are not wrong about it. Feed back makes a better product.

If you you want to write your own review then please do and leave it in the forums to let other people see. there is no need to be commissioned to do so as most game reviewers start off writing as a labour of love. As they get better and prove themselves then they get to make a living from it.

Remember, Just saying it is wrong does not help. Saying why you feel it is can be helpful. How you do brings it to an art.

Try I found my experience with the game to be different. This is what I liked. These are some things I found to be different then what I saw in this review.

Words seasoned with salt.

Re: Nintendo Goes Download-Only With The 2014 Club Nintendo Elite Rewards

Rob_mc_1

There is one problem with giving away games. The way we get to gold or elite is by buying games. Most people acquired the coins by getting the games they want. By giving away games they are either giving away games that people have already acquired or are giving away games that we didn't buy in favor of other games.

The physical items give us an unique item, The Mario cap or the statue that they gave away the first couple years were prime examples of items people would not normally have.

Re: Mario Kart Month: A Brief History Of Mario Kart Item Evolution: The Shell

Rob_mc_1

The blue shell on the n64 was more balanced and useful Since it traveled along the ground it could actually be stopped and disappear on some maps due to jumps. Also it would hit any player along the path.

As a person in 8th, I cant really see the use in hitting only the guy in first as it has no bearings on my current position but only serves to annoy the first place person. When you got it on the n64, when it hit any player along the way to first it actually was more useful to the guy in 8th since he was able to plow the road a head of him and actually gain a position instead of hoping for a more useful item next item box if he gets one.

Re: Nintendo of America Announces National StreetPass Day

Rob_mc_1

Yay. A Nintendo initiative that make us do the work and coordinating to get together so they don't have the overhead of a real event. It's a good thing too because it would be hard to plan something like a Nintendo 3DS/DS/DSi Lan party with competitions and free swag because they would then have to choose locations. Now it is up to us to randomly choose a public free venue to congregate because Nintendo said so.

I will put in just as much effort as Nintendo has of this one and randomly circle a day on the calender.

I know that last part sounds bad but to me it looks like they are encouraging Loitering. When I look at my city I see someone chose the forks. While it is a very public place, for someone to show up there for a gathering with no official event driven by a large company sounds kinda sad. I am disappointed in Nintendo on this one.

Re: Talking Point: Should Nintendo Have Made the 3DS Download-only?

Rob_mc_1

I think we are seeing the beginning of a transition period where both are included in the same package. A few examples are:
1) Portal 2. (PS3 owners received a steam version.)
2) Disney Movies. (when the Blu-ray/dvd/digital copy is registered you also get the streamed version.)
3) Starcraft 1 and 2. (If you register either of the physical to battlenet you can forget about the disc and download the installer)

The thing that can make it easier is the ability to turn your old hard copies into digital copies and to me that is where Blizzard raises the bar. I was surprised when the first Starcraft could be a digital copy for existing owners. Nintendo has a long way to go. I have a lot of games registered to my Club Nintendo account and I'm pretty sure that my hard copies that are registers will never be ported to future DS/Wii/GCN virtual consoles. They would rather repackage it and resell it.

Re: Steel Diver Sinks Without Trace at UK Retail

Rob_mc_1

I'm not surprised. Thinking back to the DS the something similar happened and most if the first generation DS titles were discontinued and only had about 2 million in sales.

Super Princess Peach, Yoshi Touch & Go, Picross DS, Tetris DS, Polarium, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, etc.

5 years from now Steel Diver will end out being a game with a limited production run and people will start looking for the first party titles they missed out on.

For a new console the numbers are probably where they normally are for the franchises they represent.

Re: Talking Point: StreetPass - Is Silent Communication the Future?

Rob_mc_1

I'm keeping my Street Pass and Spot Pass disabled indefinitely. I find the street pass concept of transmitting and exchanging data without user input to be a security risk and the spot pass searching and connecting to any internet connection to be a bit too much like war driving for my liking.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Stream Coming Sooner Than We Think

Rob_mc_1

@3 I'm sure Nintendo would have registered the name before it were ever to be leaked out. I'm also sure they would also register all the other names there are thinking about as well.

Nintendo of America Inc. currently has 2,953 domains. I wish I had the money to look at what they registered.

In your story about the domain names they have bought, including thelaststory.com, it was register over a year before the article was published.

Re: Research Firm Predicts 12m 3DS Sales by 2012, 70m by 2015

Rob_mc_1

I think the 3DS sales will depend on the number of iterations of the console. The number of DS/Lite/DSi/XL sold does not reflect the actual install base due to people owning multiple Consoles.

https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/ds/what_color_ds_do_you_have

Nintendo already said there wont be a Lite version because they already used what they learned in the 3DS. they only other iteration I can think of is a 3DS XL. Then again only Nintendo would know.

Re: Review: Pilotwings Resort (3DS)

Rob_mc_1

Great review. This is one of the games I pre-ordered. I'm also glad you didn't count Wuhu Island as a negative. People seem to forget about game play is more important to this game then the setting. Looking to the SNES version proved that.
The thing I'm looking to is is if you can decide to not pull the parachute when sky diving like in the original.

Re: 3DS Augmented Reality T-Shirts this Summer's Must Have

Rob_mc_1

Even if this were to come to Club Nintendo in North America I wouldn't be able to get it for a few reasons.
1) Manitoba laws says that on Sunday business can only be open from 12pm - 6pm.
2) Even if number 1 wasn't an issue, a midnight launch would probably be an hour too late as the eastern time zone would have a head start over central time.
