The Subspace Emissary may have been a subpar platformer, but the cutscenes and Brawl's theme made the game feel so epic. This, not so much. It's a better game but I do miss the atmosphere.
Having more games isn't always better when the eShop is turning into the App Store. Good games are buried under all the garbage.
As for games with controversial themes, it's fine as long as they're handled maturely. I have no respect for people who just aim for shock value (like blood and nudity in current TV shows).
YES! My TCG cartridge loses its save data every now and then. As for Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, boy did I love that game until I traded it away. I'll be downloading at least that one, as soon as I get Deluxe Digital Promotion funds from downloading Smash Bros for Wii U.
I think it's a bit ironic how Masuda wants to avoid making a straight-up port, when historically Pokemon remakes have done little more than update game mechanics... But it's a good sign that he's aware of the demand for a new Pokemon Snap.
@russellohh Oh man. I can hardly believe that. I wouldn't expect game designers to know anything about acting, but to be this ignorant and not realize it? This industry just gets worse the more I look at it.
@Einherjar Right, there's no shortage of examples of terrible voice actors, but it's not their fault. It's the disrespectful system they're thrown into.
Even Kid Icarus: Uprising, which has hours of terrific dialogue, has a few really cringe-worthy flops in it. You can tell where the actors weren't given enough of the script or enough time to rehearse, whether alone or together.
Gah... as an actor these practices really get on my nerves. That's incredibly risky, to assume anyone can portray a character accurately with a one-paragraph description, thirty seconds and three takes to rehearse and deliver the lines individually... and without knowing the direction the script and character need to move in.
One more way game design needs to get into the 21st century.
As much as I wanted to enter this, I was not going to brave a crowd even denser than the ones at Best Buy's Smash Fest, especially if I wasn't one of the first 128 or so there.
1. "Naturally, when Nintendo uses third party characters they have to negotiate each time they appear in a new instalment. Presumably Konami said no this time around" No company would EVER say no to getting their character in Smash Bros--it's the very best advertisement in the industry. Snake's creator was waiting to be contacted by Sakurai but that never happened--Snake didn't deserve to return to Smash 4 because the MGS series rarely ever appears on Nintendo systems these days.
2. "However, it should be noted that you can't map movement to the D-pad — that is solely reserved for the Circle Pad." You can't map ANYTHING to the D-pad--not even smash shortcuts, unless I'm missing something. All you can really do is turn tap jumps off.
I love this game--played it all the time when I was a kid. Although even today I can't reach five-star scores on most games and the Museum feature is still barren. Judge, though, I always cheated on by pausing just as the numbers went up.
I'll download it now!!! This rhythm thief's got more than enough to keep him busy until Smash, especially since Curtain Call will have button controls!
These closing comments highlight some very real issues on the eShop. The people running Nintendo still don't understand the digital market--we're getting a lot more downloadable titles than we used to, but they're almost all garbage. It really is turning into the App Store.
Soon nothing will be able to stop me from playing Smash Bros anywhere I want! ... I'm just bummed out that the New 3DS will have such better controls, and unless I buy a third 3DS, other people will have an edge over me.
But hopefully the 3DS's d-pad will still be good for smash shortcuts! The up shortcut is the most important one and it shouldn't be too hard to reach.
@TimLatshaw Kirby music is certainly a beast of its own. It's so obnoxiously J-pop (which I normally can't stand) and ill-fitting yet somehow it works so well. So would you say Drum Dash is more like being rewarded for attacking/jumping in a non-rhythm game to the beat, just for fun? But is ten stages really enough challenge for someone who's already wrecked HarmoKnight?
Someone's already beaten me to a Burger King reference. That was definitely the biggest fast food toy promotion ever, and the toys were actually notable for something other than being the healthiest part of the meal.
Is there any legitimate reason to be releasing DSiWare games three and half years into the 3DS's life cycle? There are probably two people left in the world who use the DSi Shop and don't own a 3DS.
@Moshugan Mario and Donkey Kong got their start together. But not Diddy Kong, and Funky Kong, etc., and tracks based on Donkey Kong Country. Like Wario, the franchises very quickly branched off and changed flavor.
Mario Kart has always had some crossing over with Donkey Kong, especially on the Wii. I don't think anyone complained about that.
There's nothing wrong with this DLC because, aside from the battle mode, nobody was calling Mario Kart 8 an incomplete game. Plus, these updates are very extensive at a budget price nobody was expecting! Now Nintendo is doing DLC right.
I've always had an Xbox 360 in the house (now also Xbox One) but I've rarely ever played it. At least for me, the racers can't compare to Mario Kart, I already have Smash Bros. and Naruto fighters, and shooters/sports sims don't interest me at all.
I just don't care for the kinds of games and themes you see on "mature" consoles. I did love the PS2 with games like Jak and Daxter, but those kinds of experiences are mostly on Nintendo consoles now anyway, so I'm not missing much. I've tried AAA titles on Xbox, but they just didn't do it for me.
@DarkKirby Nintendo has the least after-market support, but Nintendo games still sell more, and they stay on shelves for longer.
After-market support means nothing when Nintendo's games are better out the door than EA's by the time the EA game is replaced by its next yearly installment.
This is his third big Smash game and Sakurai's still working himself to death. I don't mind taking another delay to the face if it means this guy can survive the week.
The prices are fine--most of these games are impossible for most people to play and sold for way more. The problem is that Super Mario Bros. is worth more than $5 and Yoshi or Donkey Kong Jr. should be paying us to download them.
For whatever reason, Nintendo isn't prioritizing the best games and slashing the bad ones, and the Wii U's clunky and inconvenient backwards compatibility has limited its Virtual Console library.
@Action51 Yeah, there are certain things that can crash Radiant Dawn (and Brawl) on a Wii U. For me it'd crash when Volug battled and at the "End of Part X" graphic if I didn't skip it. And Brawl crashes whenever my Wii U attempts to fathom the power of Captain Falcon.
@gabopr75 Don't worry about the transfer limit--it was removed a few updates ago. As for whether your Smash 3DS will keep its free download, the target 3DS loses all of its own software but can still redownload its previous titles. (There's a chance I could be wrong, but I'm sure Nintendo's customer service would understand.)
@Dipper723 Keep in mind that Nintendo has some very efficient data-compressing skills. File size is less about amount of content and more about how compressed the content is. Without any data compressing, maybe quite a few 3DS games could have been above 8 GB.
@S3OL Don't get too down. The US is gigantic and there are only a few events. And even for those lucky few who can go, they're overcrowded beyond belief as a result.
@unrandomsam Nintendo did still profit from the piracy-ridden Wii and DS. But they would have made MUCH more profit without the pirating. Your argument is completely backwards, undeveloped, and invalid.
Maybe you're not big into the financial world, but companies tend to care about more than just, "Did this product make us at least one dollar?"
I've played a lot of Battle Network 3. Pretty long game. One part toward the end had me stuck for years and I'm convinced that the final boss is unbeatable.
Premium prices? You can say that again! $20 for an iPhone case? They're charging that same price for notebooks, too. Some of these things would be acceptable at half their price. My goodness.
The plushies are overpriced too, but then again it takes a hardcore bargain hunter to find any Pokemon plushies without breaking the bank.
