Sakurai san has once again treated us to some pictures of menus from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U in his pic of the day on Miiverse. Not a terribly exciting series of screenshots or indeed descriptions, but one little detail seems to have passed over the heads of many of the users who have commented.
In the first image – which can be seen above – you can see a small series of speech bubbles coming from Pikmin that show images representing Stock, Time, and the final one shows two coins bearing the Super Smash Bros. logo. In both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl the Grab the Coins mode has been featured in the same section as the Stock and Time modes, so it would be safe to assume that this image is Sakurai san's subtle method of giving us more information than we thought.
The other two images shared – shown above – are collages of images that are displayed when certain rules are highlighted. Not that interesting in itself, but a closer look at the image for displaying percentages featuring Toon Link being blasted by Charizard's fire shows that they appear to be on a stage that is very reminiscent of the Temple stage that first appeared in Melee. Whilst it's not confirmed and the detail isn't clear enough to be absolutely sure, it's a stage that has been loved by Smash Bros. fans since its inception, and we wouldn't at all be surprised if it made a return in the Wii U version.
What do you make of all of these subtle clues? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!

That stage is really good, but most of the the time you are in the lower part of the stage and it is hard to KO.
Best stage song ever. [youtube:4JEek1PQdTI]
Glad the Temple is back. It'll be perfect for 8-player mode...
It's annoying how you guys (NLife) have this total lack of enthusiasm for anything except for new information. Can't you at least appreciate these nice new screens, I mean some people even find menus (in games like Smash) exciting! I mean: "Not a terribly exciting series of screenshots or indeed descriptions" "Not that interesting in itself" really?
@PvtOttobot Its a news article, we aren't looking for their opinion. Also it's kind of a given that it's awesome news.
Temple is loved?? I wish that stage would go away, it's so huge and people can (and did) run away in timed matches for the most part.
I'm glad we have the ND date and time, way too many leaks, rumours, assumptions, hints and hunches compared to actual facts for a game coming out next month. Detective work like this should be reserved for games a year out like Zelda or XCX.
@PvtOttobot
That's a bit harsh. They obviously said that to get their point across, it wasn't meant to be taken at face value. Besides, the enthusiasm has been maxed out cause SSB 4 screenshots have been going up since the dawn of time. I think they're allowed to say something passive like this, otherwise it would get very annoying if they went "LOOK THERE, LOOK HERE!!" every time something new happened.
I loved the Temple Stage. Things got intense in the lower section of the stage, there was always a chance that a person could come back from a smash knockout by reaching for the higher levels.
@porky That's because quite a few stages are better suited for Stock Smash, not Timed. Players would try to beat the clock on any of the stages with lots of ground, which is why you even play Stock, so that doesnt happen.
THE HYPE IS REAL!!!!
Grab the coins? That mode I played twice in Melee and Brawl combined? I would love to see Temple return. It's awful in no items 1vs.1 but a blast with four players and some items.
The Temple isn't the most exciting stage out there, but it deserves its third appearance more than Brinstar Depths, that's for sure.
Considering how Temple is one of my favorite stages from Melee, I have no doubt that that is Temple in the picture.
So special mode has been announced? Nice!
I just hope the "more rules" means that Low-speed or giant-characters are back
I like the temple stage stage too, but is it a fan favorite because of taunt party matches? There was a lot of those on Brawl when you play online.
@BertoFlyingFox I was referring to playing online.. And that will still happen in For Fun mode. It won't be as bad since people won't constantly choose the level.
@Ron1212 Then why are they giving it? I don't mind their opinion, I just think giving a negative tint to these picture reveals kills some of the hype for me
@MoonKnight7 They don't need to go full out Navi on them, but they just dismiss a chance of any enjoyment of the pictures and go straight to the facts, which I am sick of... but Wii U menus, not so much!
stock time / team attack / pause disable
score display / damage gauge / self destruct penalty
I dont get why so many people hate the temple, I love it for 4 player matches, it allows strategy rather than mashing buttons like on the really small stages.
It looks like the assets are updated more than the ones in Onett are.
I still hope there's a chance we can get past stages that didn't make an appearance in Brawl. If they're too difficult to get now then they'll be impossible come the next Smash game and we'll never see a return of Hyrule Castle or Fourside to the series.
So great to have Temple back! Kinda sad to say that I had at one point avoided it like the plague. Nowadays, though, I love that stage to death! Couldn't imagine Smash Wii U not having it.
Ah, the Temple holds such fond memories. I hope it makes a return in the Wii-U version. Not that I'm getting it right away [especially since this broke college student still doesn't even own a Wii U] but it'll be even more incentive to get it as soon as the pocketbook allows.
If there's one large stage I'd have wanted in the 3DS version, it's Temple. Can't really complain (Magicant), but Temple, coupled with Onett (another stage hogged by the WiiU version, which really should have been on 3DS - but as I said, can't complain, because Magicant) and Fountain Of Dreams (or Green Greens) for a 3D Kirby stage, would have made the 3DS version more complete than ever.
@Porky
Temple is awesome, period. And the Melee-Brawl-WiiU streak kind of makes it a series staple. Please understand!
@AlexSora89 In Sakurai's eyes I suppose. You're one of those people who started taunt parties, arn't you?
I'm glad that Hyrule Temple is back, I use to dominate everyone while on that stage (as Kirby, Marth, & Link).
@Porky ...people play time matches voluntarily?
@Luffymcduck Same here. I only play Grab the Coins to get any challenges or trophies unlocked by playing it. Other than that it's always about regular stock.
@Phantom_R I hate Brinstar Depths, always have.
@2Sang Temple is one of the best stages to date
@Porky I love Temple but have no clue of these taunt parties. I like it cause everyone lasts longer so the matches get crazy.
@AlexSora89 Can't agree seeing as as soon as the U version releases the 3DS will be practically obsolete. I want the best boards for the best version with the best controls. 3DS is for casuals and people who can't afford the U. No hardcore smash fan would settle for the handheld version.
@AlexSora89 As for Magicant, definitely my favorite new stage lol gonna be sad not having it on the U. Love the background and also having the fighter men help you is awesome. And anyone can get to it and there's only 5 that will show up so it's not too cheap.
I'd like it if the Temple returns. That probably is it, but I'm thinking it could be also possibly be The Elite 4 stage from Pokemon X and Y. As far as new stages go, I'd love to see one based on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. A snowy level would be awesome (and with no Ice Climbers, we might not get one). If I can't have that, then they should at least give us Phendrana from Metroid Prime. I'd also like another new Zelda level that's not just Skyloft. Throw us in a famed dungeon like the Forest Temple or Inside the Deku Tree (heck, I'd even take the Temple of Time), or maybe in a great locale like Lake Hylia, the Lost Woods, Clock Town, Kakariko Village (complete w/Graveyard and maybe Dampe is a boss), or the top of Death Mountain and the Great Fairy could appear and heal someone who is over 100% randomly. I could go on forever about level speculation, but I really just want more Zelda levels than anything else. Also, can we please get a yarn level from Kirby's Epic Yarn?
@Copper_Kidd Playing online in Brawl or Sm4sh besides friends are timed matches even in 1 on 1 mode. Taunt parties are when people started taunting repeatedly as a sign for team up or wasting others time and fun
@MrPoo6321 It most certainly is the Temple stage, nothing else. A Youtube channel replicated the picture at the same place in Temple. The only difference is WiiU's enhanced graphics.
@Porky Yea found out it's time only with anyone. I HATE time matches. Just gives people time to run and spam and try to run down the clock. Stock is the only way to go for me. I had these 3 guys last year I kept getting connected to in brawl and one guy would fight while the other two sat there but if I got knocked near them they attacked me but not the other guy. Literally kept getting them as if they were the only online brawl players left. Haven't played it online since. 3 on 1 essentially, and it's pathetic.
