I love this game so much. I've had it for a while but only recently started devoting some serious playtime to it. I love how you always feel like your character is levelling up and progressing which for me negates any sense of repetition that would otherwise stop the 'just one more go' gameloop. Glad to see the devs are still adding content but I'll keep trying to complete it on normal for now.
@andykara2003 I personally preferred the wireless aspect over the rumble feature, at a time during the ps2 era when wired controllers were the norm, it was a revelation. Also I think the gamecube controller is the most ergonomic and comfortable.
@kategray I loved burnout! Do you remember the one that had the mini game where you had to crash and you got points for the most epic amount of damage you could inflict? I think it was in 2 or 3 ?
I miss my Amiga so am pretty tempted by this. I remember my mind being blown back in the day when I saw how good the graphics were on treasure Island Dizzy compared to my Amstrad CPC 464.
Not sure if it's available on Switch but I played Stein's Gate on the ps vita and it BLEW MY MIND. Wasn't really fussed about visual novels until then but it really opened my eyes to this genre of game. If any of these have a story half as good as that one then count me in.
I have spent a lot of time creating custom covers for my loose carts and housing them in sturdy universal game cases. They look so much nicer on my shelf, and it's a fun little project.
@KateGray Thanks for the article, I know what you mean, online multiplayer games have literally got me through this pandemic, my weird, dysfunctional online family (who I probably speak to more often than my actual family) of about 4 friends have had some great times playing sea of thieves, deep rock galactic, fallout 76, and even things like world of warships, but the game is almost a side element to the online socialising that these games deliver.
I've made the steering wheel and pedal and played a bit of mario kart with them for about 10 minutes, now they live in the loft. I also made the piano from the other set which my little girl enjoyed for a while but has been in the wardrobe for months. I still need to make the rest of them. I think they are pretty ingenious the way the fit together and work but they are just a bit too....cumbersome to warrant using on a regular basis.
I bought this on the Gamecube on release so I've only ever played the 'proper' version. The idea of playing the wii version in a mirrored world always seemed wrong to me too though.
I am a bit of a mixture. I have a load of boxes that are stored away in protective cases under my bed, but I spent a long time transferring all my loose carts to universal game cases and printing custom covers for them. I eventually printed custom covers for my CIB games too so that they look the same on my shelf.
This is genuinely sad news. My 5 year old daughter has just discovered the mario 3 cartoon on netflix and she loves it, she even asked to play the 'blocky' smb3 game to see what it was based on and really enjoyed it. Rip smb3 😓
One of my biggest regrets is not buying a bunch of Pokemon minis when I saw them in a shop in Ibiza in 1999. I had no idea that it was even a genuine product, let alone how rare they would become 🤦♂️
I have Pietro in my ACNH Island and my initial reaction was one of sheer terror but I've kinda warmed to him now, his house is insane with cloud flooring and carnival games. Plus my daughter won't let any of the villagers move out of our island so I guess his freaky clown sheep ass is here to stay 😋
@KateGray it is indeed I'm very lucky. I think the fact that I have to read out all the text in games (and sometimes do the voices) so she can follow what's happening rather than skipping through it makes me feel more engaged with the games too. 😊
@KateGray haha I don't have any you can borrow I'm afraid 😅 to be honest though she has helped me revisit and complete some games that I would have given up on otherwise. We've completed crash trilogy, shantae half genie hero and seven sirens and paper mario origami King together and we are currently 3/4 of the way through paper mario colour splash on the WiiU. It's a nice shared experience that we have together on the days that she stays with me. 🥰
@KateGray I'm very sorry to hear that you have negative emotions connected to your acnh game, thank you for the extremely honest and personal article. I too have lost a bit of interest in the game after my initial few months of playing it religiously every day, but I think mine was more due to burnout. I've essentially been playing 2 games as I have been playing it with my 5 year old daughter and while she can run about and hit things with her net, stuff like mortgage payments and seasonal goodies were left to me to do twice as she'd have been upset if I had a massive house and she was still living in a tent. I certainty had the completionist mindset initially (doing all the bunny day quests twice was a mission!) As I didn't want my daughter to miss any of the items, but over autumn I just collected a few pine cones and only really logged in in winter for the toy day stuff. I found that the game has really helped my anxiety and feelings of worry during this crappy time we are all going through by giving me a happy little world to interact with away from all the current madness but now that I'm just dipping into it occasionally it's much less stressful. I still have to pay off the bells for my daughter though so she can have a basement like mine haha. I hope you can get back to a happy place with your egg island and enjoy it once again. X
I still play my WiiU regularly and its hooked up to my main TV alongside my switch. I am halfway through paper mario colour splash with my daughter and she loves it. I intend to keep playing it regularly for a long time.
I love my WiiU and still play it regularly, I have finally just completed Breath of the wild on it after 175 hours and I'm currently playing through paper mario colour splash with my 5 year old daughter and she loves it. I have never thought of it as a 'failed' console and the fact that the majority of switch games are just re released wiiu games proves that it had an epic games library. I think the gamepad is extremely comfy despite its size and some of the games that utilised the gamepad were truly innovative, such as ZombiU and star for zero. No regrets what so ever, I just wish everyone would stop the WiiU hate just because it never got the credit it deserved!
I love the Dizzy games I had them all on my Amstrad CPC 464 as a kid, and I recently picked up an evercade for the oliver twins collection. Looking forward to this!
This remains one of my favourite gamecube titles and I still play it to this day. Nothing before or since has messed with my head in the same way (except perhaps psycho mantis' section in metal gear solid on the ps1) and for that reason it remains a classic.
That's crazy, I'm 42 and I've been saying it wrong this whole time 🤣 I don't know if I've even ever said it out loud but in my head I've always read it wrong. At least it looks like I'm not alone 😅
