I really don't have an opinion. Too bad we didn't get the toilet paper theme. I was excited for it. It would have been the easiest decision for a Splatfest yet!
I have seen it proposed, and agree, that the unconfirmed release date for the Switch has more to to with the expected release of the newest game featuring a certain mustachioed Italian plumber and not wanting to compete with that title than it has to do with it being incomplete.
The lack of X-Men and Fantastic Four in the trailer is disturbing. Lego used to be the place where everyone could get along despite licensing difficulties that plagued the rest of the media formats.
Part of me wonders if this was not part of a back up plan in case the Switch flopped. The level of attention the 3ds line has received seems to indicate the Nintendo was not convinced that the Switch would take off like it did. Beautiful hardware anyway. I kind of wish the new 3ds would have introduced this design.
I wound up sitting by the door in My local Target for 20 minutes or so yesterday while waiting on someone, and I heard a lot of positive comments from the people coming through the door. The level of recognition for Mario Kart was kind of surprising. If only they had Switch consoles in stock to sell, or at the very least a demo unit to play. While the idea of Mario Kart got across, I am not sure that people understood that it was also an ad for the Switch.
I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't announce anything new for Switch in 2017. Given that they have tried to keep E3 content within an 18 month window maybe we would see a Jan/Feb title and an April/May title. 3DS may have a bit more to show for 2017 though. I sincerely hope I am wrong, but the past couple years have taught me to temper my expectations with Nintendo. Especially with how optimistic E3 2014 seemed for Wii U and how quickly that dissipated.
I am so ready for this. I feel like I didn't do the original justice because I found Rocket League a few months after release and that took over my multiplayer slot, but now I am done with Rocket League and ready for some epic turf wars!
@gcunit I am glad that I am not the only one who loads up the launch screen to listen to the music.
I beat this with 5 hearts and no divine powers on the first go. It is all about patience. Also, beating the Hinox with metal boxes using Magnesis is super effective!
I still don't get why people feel like they are entitled to anything other than the game itself for buying a game. I miss Club Nintendo as much as the next guy, but we are getting our money's worth in the titles that we buy. I am happy that I get credit again for physical purchases and that it is apparently easy to do. To deride Nintendo for offering a loyalty program seems greedy.
10 hours sounds fine. Short games can be just as entertaining as 100 hour behemoths. Take the original Portal for example. I love that game, but I definitely finished it in less than 4 hours.
This one has me a bit rattled. I hope this does not become the standard for Switch titles. For instance, the bits releavled for Mario Oydessy seem to indicate only four worlds at this time. I would be upset if the content in that game wound up being short and they released a expansion pass to make up for it. Anyhow I am glad I skipped the master edition Zelda. I was so close to taking the plunge, but now I would feel pretty ridiculous paying $140 for a game, even if it is Zelda.
Seems alright to me. It worked in the first game with no voice chat whatsoever. I wasn't relishing the thought of getting yelled at in Japanese anyways...
Here is my take on these cards. SD rating is a bit of a mess. For all practical purposes a card with a UHS-I bus rated at UHS-1 (or U1) is the best guaranteed value for your dollar at this time. The speed class rating system, 2, 4, 6, 10, U1, U3, V30, V60, V90 all only rate minimum sustained write speeds. This is great for your 4k GoPro, but for the purposes of the Switch, read speeds will be the far more important statistic. A U3 card is in no way guaranteed to work better in a Switch than a U1 card. It is worth noting that U1 and Speed Class 10 are both the same rating for writes, but a card with a U1 rating is guaranteed to have the faster UHS-I or UHS-II bus.
My theory as to why these specific cards are limited to 32GB are because Nintendo is either delayed in licensing exFAT for SDXC, a requirement for the SDXC standard, or they found a way to save some cost by only paying licensing on Switch devices that upgrade to SDXC compatibility. If they do not have licensing in place for exFAT they would be limited to SDHC and the 32GB max capacity it carries.
Strange to hear that something is coming to Wii U, but a Switch port is uncertain. I had to read it a couple times to make sure I was understanding it correctly!
This would be awesome. I am coming up on 500 hours in this game on PC, but I would buy on the Switch in a heartbeat. The lack of analogue triggers may make it a little less fluid an experience, but many people, including some pros, mange on keyboard mouse, so who knows?
This game is a very different beast from other Lego games. Think more like the old Lego Creator meets Minecraft. It is a promising premise, but the beta so far has been a kind of mile wide and an inch deep type scenario. After you see the different biomes, which doesn't take too long, there is little new to discover. The building aspect is a bit like Minecraft creative mode and, at least for me, lacks the sense of accomplishment that Minecraft has in survival with having to gather and craft before building. The procedural generation also seems more uniform, almost kind of safe, and doesn't produce the same kind of vistas that Minecraft can. I did EA on Steam, so I doubt I'll get this on Switch, but, if you really are into Minecraft creative mode, it may be worth your time.
For those who find the SD card rating system a bit confusing here is a link to the SD Association's standards page. https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/choices/speed_class/index.html Part of the reason why that 256gb card is more expensive is that the sequential write speed is rated at 30mb/s verses 10mb/s on the others. The benefit of getting a card with a higher class rating may not be as pronounced in the Switch's use case because the whole class system is based on sequential write performance to non fragmented disks, like video recording to a blank SD card, and not read performance. For gaming read performance is the much bigger issue, and, as far as I know, there is no standard system for read speeds.
@Megas Fair enough. I only got a 3DS after the New variant, so I cannot disagree with your strategy! A pc is also a great platform for gaming and has been an incredible compliment to Nintendo systems for me. I simply cannot see a place for PS4 or xbox 1 in my life right now.
@Megas What if the New Switch was available as a $150 main tablet only 3-4 years down the road, was compatible with all the accessories, and could play all the games at higher settings?
@roboshort True, but it is still getting significantly more support that the Wii U had this past year. Based just on the titles announced so for for 2017 the 3DS already outclasses the Wii U's 2016. Either way, if they make games, I will play them!
So much for the switch being the "3rd pillar". I think Nintendo is trying to channel the rest of the gaming market with paid online like xbox/PS4, mobility like phones/tablets, the inability to count to three like Valve... On a serious note though, even as a Wii U owner I am okay with this. I actually hope that they start to wind down the 3DS as well over the next year and really focus all their might behind the switch maybe offering a tablet/Joy-Con only sku to lower the price a bit. The N3DS is a brilliant bit of hardware, and I will sorely miss the 3D, but it is time to move forward.
Digging that art style. Hopefully it has a decent story and gameplay too!
Up until now, a multiplatform game that was releasing on Steam would have always been a PC purchase for me just for the simple reason that I have a decent gaming rig that would make it look the best possible, but, if the Switch takes off, I could see it easily taking the spot of my gaming rig for titles like this due to the convince of playing mobile. Nintendo may be on to something here...
@Niinbendo Well I hope you make it over here sometime. Despite the cold it is really rather nice. In the meantime, I am glad someone gets a day at the beach, cold beer, and Nintendo news!
@Niinbendo Well I am just a bit jealous... Here it will be 10pm, I'll be stuck at work, and the forecast has us at -11f (-23c) with a -22f (-30c) windchill. Wanna trade?
The Wii U should be renamed the Bait so we would have Nintendo Bait and Switch. This kind of makes me wonder if Nintendo is planning to cancel BOTW for Wii U due to frame rate and render distance, but is waiting until January 12th so we are excited for the Switch and not just burned on the news.
Looks good. My only fear is that they will keep exclusive features for the NX version or will incorporate visual effects/loading area sizes that make the Wii U version not run well. I definitely got some serious frame drops in Twilight Princess HD and this looks to be a fair bit more graphically demanding. This is the Wii U's Zelda, so I hope that they respect the users that have patiently waited for it.
@Major_spinner I stand corrected. I forgot that came out first. I just remembered the voice acting being a big deal for LOTR because they used movie audio.
