Length has nothing to do with the price. Metroid likely has a bigger budget than any of those indie games you guys are bringing up. What about Blu-Rays? Is $35 too much for a new movie with only two hours of content?
Yeah, I like to preorder on Amazon so I can have time to get some gift cards together to reduce the cost lol. Canceled my Best Buy order after seeing it on Amazon.
The Zelda Game & Watch is fine. I think some people are expecting too much because of all the stuff they did for the Super Mario 35th Anniversary. That is Nintendo’s mascot, and I wouldn’t expect a big celebration for every single milestone of all Nintendo properties.
Well, I’ve now completed the prequel (and some included short stories) and the main game, and my play time is at 60 hours. Just need to read through the sequel now.
You get an item that lets you swap characters at any time shortly after fighting the second boss. (Humorously, there is a glitch that lets you drain this boss’s health before fighting it. Just shoot the wall with the girl’s arrows before stepping into the center of the room to trigger the fight.)
I’m at the second main boss right now. I’ve played over 4 hours and have 25% map completion, so I’d say it will be more than “a handful of hours” for most people. There are lots of secrets to find too. Really cool game so far.
Astalon: Tears of the Earth, a great retro-style Metroidvania that released a couple of days ago. I don’t know if NL will review it, but it’s scoring great elsewhere.
Literally none of those critics said it was better than OoT or BotW. I’d give the main story in House in Fata Morgana a 9 myself. It was very memorable but started to drag towards the end. Also kinda annoying how some expressions were repeated far too often. I’ve played (well, read) the prequel for a few hours, and it’s not nearly as interesting. It might be a while before I get to the sequel with the modern day setting. (All three are included in the Switch version.)
@Ulanda, I beat Zelda 2 many times when I was just a preteen. Sorry, but that’s an outdated concept and games like this should come with a map. Wandering around aimlessly trying to find one room I missed just isn’t fun anymore.
Yeah, this game could definitely use a remake. Or they at least could have added maps. The other day I played until I got the ability to turn into the monkey. But then I just wandered around that dungeon lost, and I haven’t yet gone back to it. I do plan to finish it though, since this is the only Shantae I haven’t beaten.
I paid $30 for the deluxe version. Don’t know how I feel about that, but I’m sure I’ll be playing this quite a bit. My two wins were using the colorful and Dragon Buster themes.
I’ll miss SMB 35, but this has the potential to be pretty addictive. I’ve played some matches and it’s cool. Just need to figure out how everything works lol.
Are you guys saying you can’t combine items in the UK? Because you can in the US. I ordered 6 items, including the coasters, and paid $5 shipping for the whole order. The coasters came in a small plastic bag and not the little box shown above.
@Caryslan, sadly it’s the original Sonic Mania and not Plus. It shows the DLC on the menu but you have to buy that separately. I already played Sonic Mania Plus as well, though. Mostly got this for Team Sonic Racing. It’s pretty fun.
Nice list (though I prefer MM to OoT myself). The N64’s is about the only system known for having so many memorable wrestling titles. They were great, especially in multiplayer.
This is part of the Anti Hero Bundle, which is currently on sale for $6. (Also includes Nefarious and Reverse Crawl.) I picked it up, even though I have Nefarious in another bundle. Still a good price just for Underhero.
I have dozens of wins. For those talking about playing 1-1 and 1-2 over and over, have you played in the past few days? Those stages still show up, but the later stages are appearing way more often. As long as you last past a few stages, you’ll likely start seeing them.
I have 13 first place finishes and have unlocked every stage up to 5-1. I hope they’re planning to replace it with a bigger Mario Battle Royale game that includes stages for more games. This one is fun, but can be a lot more interesting if most players weren’t picking 1-1 all the time. That’s understandable for now and should start to change over the next week.
@Jayofmaya, enemies you defeat are sent to another player's screen. You can select who to target with the right stick, just like Tetris 99. You can use 20 coins to get an item with the X button. Not sure if coins have any other purpose.
I tried it out on iOS...and I actually like it so far. The “tactical battles” thing might be misleading. It seems like a pretty standard turn-based RPG battle system to me. There’s a meter that fills up when you do basic attacks, and then you can use those points stored up to execute combos. The map looks pretty large, too.
It’s worth a look right now on either Android or iOS. (Free on both, but $12.99 on Steam.)
@Ralizah, the full game has been available on Apple Arcade for the past couple of weeks. Part 1 was only available prior to that. And you can use Bluetooth controllers, including PS4 and X1 controllers.
@Darlinfan, I like the Metroidvania term myself. It's one of my favorite genres, and seeing the term used to describe a game instantly tells me what I'm getting into. People were suddenly asking where the term came from, so I tried to give them an answer lol.
"Metroidvania" is a term coined by some journalist to describe games like Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night. Maybe just "Metroid-like games" would have worked just fine.
I put 10 hours into the story mode and beat it. I liked it okay, but it started to get really tedious and annoying at the end. There were just way too many enemies in the dungeons, and switching balls was easier when I didn't have 10 of them to choose from. (Granted, the upgrade that allows you to carry more balls is optional. I just didn't realize it was going to make the game more frustrating to play.)
It's worth noting that a few critics liked the game. I've seen a couple of 8s and a 9, but I guess those publications aren't good enough for MetaCritic, lol. I'm not trying to recommend the game, though. Definitely not for everyone. But if the concept interests you, it might be worth a look if you can get it cheap enough.

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60
2D Metroid is worth $60 IMO. Look at my kickass new avatar!
Re: Gameplay Video Showcases What's New In Doki Doki Literature Club Plus
@nessisonett
I’ve never played it, and really know nothing about it. I bought a physical copy on Amazon, so will get to it eventually.
Re: Where To Pre-Order Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda
@thiz
If it’s like the Mario one, it should come with a USB cable. You likely already have an adapter laying around that you can use it with.
Re: Nintendo Download: 17th June (North America)
Never heard of Ender Lilies, but looks interesting and has very positive reviews on Steam. I’ll put it on the wishlist for now.

Yes, but how many Koroks are there this time?
Re: Video: Catch Up On All The E3 2021 Nintendo Treehouse Live Demonstrations
Really looking forward to Mario Golf next week! And especially glad that additional courses and characters will be free.

SMB 1 and Lost Levels.

Mario had 3 including the Ball game.

Hopefully, this will be as easy to get as the Mario one.

Re: Mini Review: Astalon: Tears of the Earth - Likeable, High Fantasy Metroidvania Action
@LeChuck
Actually, I did that the first time too. I should have mentioned to try not to kill it completely. Sorry!
Re: Feature: Diving Deeper Into The Switch Game With A Perfect Metascore
Was the Editor’s Note already there when she first posted the article? My bad, if so. I would have expected that to be at the top of the article lol.
Anyway, it is a great visual novel. I’m nearing the end of the prequel, and still have the sequel with the modern setting to look forward to.
Re: Feature: Diving Deeper Into The Switch Game With A Perfect Metascore
This no longer has a perfect MC score.
Just an FYI

It’s just a reference to one of the characters, who refers to himself as a beast.

Including the collections in the ranking seems redundant. I don’t remember seeing Zelda: CE on the Zelda list.
Anyway, I actually like the ZX games the most.

Still don’t know if anything specific spawns red PAC-Man, but I did pick up a couple of victories last night.

Re: How Well Do You Know The Legend Of Zelda?

Pretty easy questions for a Zelda vet like me. I'll admit that I almost picked Tael for that fairy's name, though.
