Re: Poll: What's The Best Mario Kart Game?

Mr-Glissando

Double Dash was terrible! The whole Double gimmick did absolutely nothing gameplay wise. Mario Kart wii was just a complete mess as well. With uninspired track design and just a completely uneven multi-player experience, wasn't long at all before me and my friends dashed (forgive the pun) straight onto the dead game pile to simply gather dust

For me it's (and my friends) it's easily Mario Kart 8 Deluxe no questions.

For nostalgic purposes it has to be Mario Kart 64 and the original Super Mario Kart

Re: Sega Is Exiting The Japanese Amusement Arcade Business After Half A Century

Mr-Glissando

A sad day indeed to all of us that were lucky enough to experience the buzz of arcade gaming of yesteryear. I always used to say to my mate whilst standing there gobsmacked at the then newly released Final Fight in 1989! "Can you IMAGINE having those graphics at home Jim??!!" (Most of us were using Spectrums, Amstrads or commodore 64's and had to settle for some VERY watered down home conversions of the full fat arcade monster originals) 30+ years on and I kind of regret wishing such things as the home console and PC market gradually started to technically out gun even those mighty Model 2 and CPSIII ROM boards.

As a 44 year old I still foundly remember those halcyon days and nights down the Silver Hake chippy, as we all chambered to ram our 10 pence coins into the 1991 worldwide phenomenon that was the juggernaut called Street Fighter II.

Some of those mates I fought against are sadly long gone! But there's always the be my memories of them playing two player Sega Rally championship down the local boozer in 1994. (Yes we were underage)

Losing Sega to me personally is like losing those aforementioned old friends, Sega itself was a friend to all of us that grew up in that wonderful scene, I feel

Gone but never forgotten.

I think it would be more than fitting for Nintendo to purchase what remains of Sega and keep their IP's well and truly alive.

Sad day.

Re: Switch Console Sales Hit 89 Million, Has Now Outsold PS3 And Xbox 360

Mr-Glissando

Love my Switch (bar the joycon drift) as a handheld its more than a Stella unit, docked, not some much in this day and age.

I simply don't get why they can't significantly upgrade the Dock though? Patch all current games to take advantage of it! Then bang out a new Dock that can display 60fps, DLSS, and possibly a 1440p or checkerboarded 4K resolution and a bit more horsepower for TV based sessions, then they don't really need to immediately lauch a "Switch Pro" model. (They'll have too eventually, granted) as the graphics hounds are currently laughing at Nintendo's current tech.

For those claiming the Switch is "Dying", I highy suggest those aforementioned folk go and take a look at the Japanese sales charts! Sony isn't even in it anymore, let alone Microsoft!

And yes, I own a PS5 and Series X, but Nintendo have done very well this generation, especially on very outdated harware.

Don't get me wrong here, if they announced an upgraded Switch Pro model tomorrow, (or upgraded Dock) I'd be putting in pre-orders as we speak. But the doom and gloom scenario's regarding Nintendo....well it's simply not an issue at present

Switch definitely
isn't in trouble at present people

Re: After 25 Years, A New Cheat Code Has Been Discovered For Street Fighter Alpha 2 On The SNES

Mr-Glissando

Sorry, but SNES/Super Famicom version of Alpha 2 was way, way inferior to the Japanese Saturn version. Even the PlayStation version was trimmed slightly (missing reflections in the puddles on Gen's backstreet stage, Zangief missing considerable more frames of animation) etc, etc

Brave attempt for the old SNES, but once you'd bought, or played it on Saturn (or a genuine CPII board via a super gun) then there was simply no going back unfortunately. Still own an import copy somewhere.

Re: Random: Edge Magazine Is Teasing A "World Exclusive"

Mr-Glissando

Loved Hollow Knight, it was literally a 2D 'Souls' series game.

Unfortunately at my age I lost my lustre after battling a specific boss over and over again! I wouldn't mind if they started you right back into the boss battle, but I literally had to for a futher 15 minutes to get back to aforementioned boss! In the end I gave up sadly.

Shame, as the game was awesome.but the grind to get back somewhere then get wiped out within under a minute.... Just nah.

Team Cherry, are are insanely talented developers.

Re: Nintendo Consoles Are Aimed At "Kids And Teens" Says Sega's Toshihiro Nagoshi

Mr-Glissando

Ahh yes the very same Nintendo that's Gamecube was once home to the extremely 'kiddy friendly' exclusive, Resident Evil 4! 😂 😂

I'm admittedly quite a big fan of a lot of Nagoshi's work. (not so much his recent offerings) Yet nowadays he seems to have had some sort of horrific, bottox influenced, permatanned, colossal mid life crisis! He actually looks like he's just stepped straight out of one his own Yakuza games! So him personally making statements about Nintendo's identity as a brand, well frankly, it's just utterly ridiculous and quite hypocritical on his part.

No. I definitely prefered him in the early 1990's, early 2000's when he was still regularly contributing to EDGE, all whilst him and his teams were working on Stella games like Daytona, Super Monkey Ball, Fzero GX, just to name but a few.

Put simply, I really don't know how to take him anymore as a developer. The Yakuza franchise is definitely a mixed bag (some games are great, others are distinctly average at best) time he stopped whitening his teeth and got down to either working on some fresh I.P's, or simply getting permission from Nintendo and remastering the sublime FZero GX. Or the incredible Super Monkey Ball.

Re: Hardware Classics: The Super Famicom Is 30 Today

Mr-Glissando

Right, I've changed my profile picture to celebrate 30 years of the Super Famicom. Anyone else still got there's? Let's see them boys and girls!

Extra bonus points awarded for minimum 'yellowing' and not owning the breeze block monstrosity that was the American model (admittedly I did also own one back in the day, as it could play both Japanese and American games with needing a converter) but man it was ugly 😂😂

Re: Hardware Classics: The Super Famicom Is 30 Today

Mr-Glissando

Still have my original Super Famicom to this day! (and my AES Neo Geo)

It was this time 30 years ago I was waiting for mine to arrive via import from PC Engine Supplier (later Console concept) Remarkably it still runs like a charm and has zero 'yellowing'

I've owned the lot! (Still own most of them) but the Super Famicom is just special! DEFINITELY one of the greatest consoles ever released, in my humble opinion at least.

Happy Birthday SF. And thanks for the incredible memories.

Re: UK Charts: Switch Games Pushed Down The Pecking Order As Next-Gen Excitement Takes Over

Mr-Glissando

Hardly a surprise though is it? Two major console launches are bound too hurt the big N! Saying that though they're still doing more than admirably on the sales front.

Nintendo, I feel at this point need a new Switch announcement sooner, rather than later. As frankly the Switch in docked mode is definitely starting to show its age nowadays (I personally love my Switch still) but a more powerful upgraded model with backwards compatability, well.. it certainly wouldn't hurt them at this point. They should also put in an offer on Sega (or at least it's IP's) before either off the other two do! I'll pick up a PS5 at some stage for its future exclusives, but as a 3090 user, it's alleged 'next gen' specs are simply irrelevant to me.

Nintendo really, REALLY needs too sort the ***** Joycon drift issues out as well! I'm on my third pair now! And that simply isn't on.

Re: Review: Pilotwings - 16-bit Flight Simulation, The Nintendo Way

Mr-Glissando

Got it on import (still own it to this day) with my original Super Famicom back in late November, 1990.

I can truthfully say it was a game that even my non gaming mates sat down and got slack jawed over it!

Yeah, the review is fair, as of after nearly 30+ years, of course it's going to look aged!

There's genuinely something timeless about it though. From its quirky nature to its sublime soundtrack, this was a game that grabbed you in. Some love it. Some hate it.

Way I see it though, at least Nintendo were attempting to flex originality back in 1990. I owned all the major three consoles (Megadrive, Super Famicom, Neo Geo) but FZero and Pilotwings were usually 90% the games that people were stunned by.

Those that weren't born at the time, you probably aren't going to "get it". For those of us got it though, and were there... Yeah! It's simply a slice of a digital bygone era long before patches, loot boxes, and the endless lackadaisical sequel to yet another First Person Shooters ever existed.

Try it. It's worth it for the atmosphere and music alone.

Re: Random: Some 3D All-Stars Players Aren't Happy About The Visible Debug Cubes In Super Mario Sunshine

Mr-Glissando

Pretty piss poor on Nintendos part, considering Mario is their flagship franchise.

This collection should have been absolutely stuffed to the gills with extras. Including Galaxy 2 (no excuse at all for its omission!) all games running at a standard 60fps. An optional Super Mario 64 remade from the ground up! (plus the original)

They've had years to perfect this collection, yet still chose to dish us up the bare minimum! Needs some serious patches before I even think of investing my time and money into it.

Smacks of laziness from the big N.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Fall Update Is 'Around The Corner', Says Nintendo

Mr-Glissando

I've dropped off after 750 hours. As all I seemed to be doing was building up money. I've over 310 million bells in the bank nowadays! Making me a veritable pimp, out here on flea bag island 😂😂

House is fully done. Got all the tunes I wanted. Can't be arsed to modify anymore of my island, as the framerate plummets like a rock, whenever I enter my Chinatown restaurant district or fish market areas.

So my question is, where do I go from here with it?

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Remasters And Much More In Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

Mr-Glissando

@skulltulips

I'm disappointed also! There was absolutely no need to exclude SMG2! I own everyone of these titles to this day. Yet I'll still be purchasing these bundles as well.

The 3D 'remaster' bundle is undeniably great! But why didn't they make it fantastic, simply by adding in SMG2?

They'll probably bang it out at a late date as a stand alone release, just to rake in some extra fiscal (which will annoy me intensely to be honest!)

It should have 100% being included.

Re: Even At £100, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Doesn't Come With A Game Card

Mr-Glissando

I can't help but feel this is simply going to be strictly a cult status thing really.

I mean for probably 80% of people this is just going to be a no no straight off the bat, simply because of their living rooms uncompatibility with it. (unless the karts work on flawlessly on carpet?)

I mean, is it going to have the depth of a full fat Mario Kart title? (I seriously doubt it) I mean how will the power slide work? If it does actually turns out to be a full fat Mario Kart experience. Well then I'll seriously consider it. (I've wooden flooring)

I've absolutely no doubt their will be a selection of hardcore fans out there with the space and suitable flooring designing custom courses, and building dedicated track spaces for it, and I'll be honest, I really hope it works out! As it could be genuinely amazing if executed properly. If this was any other company even attempting this sort of thing, I'd immediately dismiss it. But if anybody can get this to work, then it's definitely Nintendo.

Fair play to them for even attempting it.

Re: September Issue Of Nintendo Dream To Reveal Switch Game "Everyone Will Enjoy"

Mr-Glissando

I really doubt we'll be seeing Metroid Prime 4 on this generation Switch! Let's face it it's unlikely to release even in 2021! By the time it does land its going to look pretty archaic, especially compared to the next generation of games being pumped out by Sony and Microsoft.

Saying that, are graphics REALLY that important anymore?

Just give me a new FZero, pilotwings, 1080 snowboarding, or a remastered Waverace 64 and I'll be more than happy!

Sadly it highly doubtful any of the aforementioned games will ever see the light of day again.

Mario anniversary package it is then.

Re: Random: The LEGO NES Has A Cool Super Mario Bros. Easter Egg Hidden Inside It

Mr-Glissando

I like it! At that price though... Hmmmmm nah.

If it was coming in at around the hundred quid mark, yeah, I could justify the outlay on it. At present though.. Just no.

Sadly these will probably never drop in price, as they'll simply keep get snaffled up by the rabid collectors, thus keeping the price at a premium.

From there, they'll simply be moved into a glass cabinet to be ominously leered at forever, and ever and ever and ever.
