I’ll probably get it later in the month once my schedule calms down a bit. I definitely have some reservations about the desert and NPCs, but am overall still excited.
Also, I’m all for supporting products you love, but why are some of y’all getting multiple copies of a game you haven’t even played yet?
@roboshort How’s over 200 new enemies, 40 new bosses, a character with a completely different movement set, a new quest system, and a completely new hand-drawn world for shaking it up? Yes, its still a metroidvania, yes it reuses elements from its predecessor, but from the few hours I’ve played, I’d say it’s done more to differentiate itself from Hollow Knight than Dread has from its predecessors (and Dread’s like a 10/10 game for me, so that’s not a bad thing).
Congrats Team Cherry! You guys have reached the level of popularity where people begin to think they’re enlightened for calling you overrated.
But in all seriousness, it’s been like less than half a day since this came out. Anyone calling it a masterpiece or overrated is super uninformed in their take. Give it time people.
@cvrator Lol, fair enough. Pretty stupid they didn’t have an NPC make it tradable in the original. It does get tiring running throughout that titan’s interior. Glad they made it exchangeable for points in the definitive edition.
@cvrator Gotta disagree. The weapon/gem rewards aren’t all that great, but to me it has the same effect as Tarrey Town in that the main reward is the experience of building up a community and seeing it blossom as you progress throughout the game. I honestly wish more RPGs or games in general had quests like this, since they’re the ones where you most tangibly feel like you’re changing the world for the better.
Shoutout to the OG Tarrey Town: rebuilding Colony 6 in the original Xenoblade Chronicles. Love to see the population grow, decorations change, new side quests open up, and music change as you develop it more and more.
But yeah, this article hit the nail on the head with the Bloody Baron side quest in W3. That storyline’s almost better than the main story quest.
@Sciqueen I’m with you in that I didn’t like TotK as much as BotW on first playthrough. The magic of that game is exploring Hyrule for the first time, and that magic is lost when it’s reusing the same overworld. But I don't act like my opinion is an objective fact, representative of the whole Zelda community, and call the team that spent years developing the game and its crazy complex physics mechanics “lazy.” It’s overly reductive, unhelpful to the conversation about what direction the series should go in, and just makes you sound like an *****.
And for the record, I too would appreciate more linearity in the series, but I’m not stating my opinion as a fact here.
4U is my favorite from this list; feels like the pinnacle of classic Monster Hunter. Rise was a lot of fun, but the combat just didn't have the kind of weight I love in Monster Hunter games. And yeah, to echo other comments, rampage quests were NOT a blast, and totally brought down the base game's endgame.
Looks gorgeous! So excited to see confirmation of the next big Monster Hunter game. Love the chocobo-looking mount too. Very curious to see how the combat plays out, since that (along with the monsters of course) is really the most important part of the game, not necessarily the setting it takes place in.
@Joeynator3000 I mean, there’s no confirmation of that yet. The landscape definitely looks big and open, but a lot of areas in World looked that way too. Definitely agree that I’d be a bit hesitant if they went full-on open world given how much it would impact the gameplay loop, but I’d still be excited to see how it plays out. Either way, the combat and monsters are the most important part of the game, so really looking forward to seeing how those evolve in this entry.
With all the praise everyone and their grandma has given it, gotta say I’m looking forward to finally playing TTYD when it releases on Switch. Loved the original and Origami King, so I’m quite hyped.
As for ones I’ve played, BiS will always have a special place in my heart as the game that got me into RPGs as a whole when I was a little 10-year-old.
Hard disagree with this article. Glad almost everyone else here seems to agree. Mentalities like this set a precedent for gaming companies to be lazy with the way they build their consoles. It’s understandable to lose some BC switching from the Wii U to the Switch given the change in console medium and discs to cartridge, but if this really is a “Switch 2,” I’d be pissed if there wasn’t BC when the Switch forced us to rebuy barely altered 8 year old games at $60 on a new console.
Game looks like it'll play great, doesn't sound great though. I agree with most of the commenters here that there's just too much distracting noise. The jump sound effect is weird, the flowers are obnoxious (thank God there's a mute option), and the cymbals with the ground pounds are going to get annoying real quick. Still definitely looking forward to playing it next month!
Fingers crossed they show a trailer of Fantasy Life i that makes it stand out, or give it some unique identity. The original was one of my favorite 3DS RPGs, so I’m hoping this one lives up to it.
@OFFICIALMichi Loved the final boss fight, but gotta agree with you that the story's ending was pretty disappointing in that regard. It kind of negates her sacrifice (yeah I know she was still a dragon for millennia) when Nintendo decided to not fully commit to her fate.
Yeah, overall I loved the game but I was not a fan of its story at all, especially the way it was told. Wooden voice acting, flavorless dialogue, and repetitive story beats just made the main narrative a pain to sit through, even more than BotW's which wasn't that great to begin with. The fact that the memories unlocked out of order again was ridiculous to me. One of the first ones I got was Ganondorf just murdering Queen Sonia with no context, like wtf? It would have made a lot more sense to just have the memories unlocked chronologically regardless of the location you get them from, especially because most of the memories aren't tied to the geography of where you get them. Like BotW, story is definitely this game's weak point. Outside of the opening descent into the crypt, there's very little I'll remember from this game's plot.
Great trailer! This is the kind of thing I was hoping to see more of: significant changes to the overworld. I've intentionally been avoiding replaying BotW for the past few years, so hopefully it feels like a completely new world going into it.
@sixrings Everyone’s got a right to their opinions, but I do find it funny you call Super Mario Odyssey a boring platformer while elevating New Super Mario Bros U, which recycled the same elements of the past three games in the series, as a great one. Odyssey definitely isn’t perfect (a bunch of moons were pointless or far too easy), but there was certainly a ton of creative platforming in it (2D and 3D) that had context within the levels.
@ObeliskDrakon For real! Like gosh, this isn’t implying the map design was ripping off or directly referencing the world map of a 1990 2D Nintendo platformer, it was just pointing out a cute parallel you could draw between two wildly different games. I liked it.
Man, the 3rd party stuff for 2021 is looking pretty great so far. Rune Factory 5, Disgaea 6, Monster Hunter Rise, SMT V, Bravely Default II, now this... Even without knowing much of Nintendo's plans for next year, it still seems like there's a lot to look forward to.
I got the first one not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised by how much fun it was. It wasn’t very challenging and was far from ground-breaking, but the constant sense of progression, great art style, and cat puns made it an excellent way to kill a few hours. Will definitely buy this one at some point.
Easily the highlight of the direct for me, though that’s not really saying much, unfortunately. Very happy that they’re adding in new content; I thought that part at the end was Outlook Park at first. Makes more sense now why they ended the trailer on that shot.
I'm not sure if it's just me, but I feel like it's impossible to have people play my level without posting it to online boards like Reddit and Gamefaqs. I'm sure that's a natural consequence of having millions of levels up, but it's a bit annoying that it takes so much effort to get one's level played.
I picked up my 3DS for the first time in a year and man does that system have a great library. I've been replaying Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story; I'd forgotten what a fun game that is. I've also been playing Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, which is a charming collection of nostalgia.

So glad to hear this! Well-deserved indeed. Probably my favorite retro-style turn-based RPG I've played since Bowser's Inside Story.

@Fizza Same. I was very underwhelmed by every trailer before this; glad Nintendo has shown off more of its hand outside of attaching rock to stick.

Thanks, neat site.
Re: Review: Forager - A Delightful Fusion Of Stardew Valley And Harvest Moon That You Should Own
I like the Joy/Cons section; clever way to summarize the main points of the review.
Also, does anyone know how long the game lasts?
Re: Poll: Have Your Joy-Con Been Drifting?
Mine drift all the time. It would be nice if the new Joy-Cons Nintendo’s putting out are less prone to drifting, though I doubt that will be the case.
Honestly, a lack of drift might sell the Switch Pro for me at this point.
