Re: Review: Dave The Diver - One Of The Best Games In A Year Of Greats

MjekuMati

@Munchlax

I’ve had years like that - the Mario galaxy games just didn’t do it for me and I felt a little broken. It was a bad year for me for other reasons. But I’ve played games for so long that it often has to be kind of a special game to impress me now. Doesn’t have to be big budget, stardew valley hooked me for a long while. Generally Mario games don’t do it for me any more because I don’t know if I have 30 more years of jump and bounce in me after 38 years of jump and bounce.

But I have to say that tears of the kingdom is definitely amazing. I hated fire emblem engage (so so painful cringe) and fire emblem has been one of my all time favorite series. So it’s hit or miss for any one person for any one game. Eventually something will come out that catches you again. For me, it was monster hunter tri on the Wii my brother that got me out of the funk. Online /multiplayer games seem to be what really pull me back in these days.

Re: Legend Of Zelda: Who Are The Zonai? - Zelda's Ancient Tribe Explained

MjekuMati

Surely I’m not the only one who thinks that “tears of the kingdom” clearly refers to the falling blocks of the floating kingdom above? Or perhaps they’re are the bits of the floating kingdom? You know, it’s like skyloft’s remnants that are falling as “tears.” Makes sense to me! Can’t wait to find out.

Re: Talking Point: Has Nintendo Done Enough To Justify Splatoon 3's Existence?

MjekuMati

I love the splatoon series more than any other. But the designs for deep cut? Eww. They’re so bad in my mind that I’ll have to explain to people that you just have to ignore the weird talk show people because the game is actually really good…before the hosts were a cute addition. These are worse than ugly sonic. In fact, can we have ugly sonic be our announcer instead? I like him more.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says He's "Not Opposed To The Fans' Opinions"

MjekuMati

I gave the latest one a chance. I played it all the way through. My boys and I had some good laughs. The last 4 hours absolutely killed it for me. Randomized boss battle on top of the already frustrating and almost-intolerable battle system, weird game show that sucks all the fun out of the game...it was just one bad choice after another. Officially my least favorite paper Mario of all.

Re: Nintendo Is Aware Of Paper Mario's Game-Breaking Bug, Will Resolve Issues ASAP

MjekuMati

What about the glitch where you only own one switch, and your child gets into your profile and plays for a long time on your save file that's already had about 10 hours put in...there's no way to go back to where you were!
Solutions?
1. Allow passwords to be set on profiles, so you can't play a game through that profile unless you input password.
2. Get rid of autosaves in paper mario through options menu?
3. Allow save states like in Breath of the Wild (why isn't this a thing??)
4. Do none of these things and make sorry dads like me everywhere suffer forever.

Re: Animal Crossing Direct Announced for 20th February

MjekuMati

Can we just get Bunny from Badge Arcade to open a shop? I need badges to stick on my clothes and walls and letters to friends and mailbox and...everything.

Oh, and how about Rusty from Rusty's Baseball to open a batting cage please? I need to relax on my island in the batting cage.

Re: Feature: It's Been Nearly Five Years, So Where In The World Is Pikmin 4?

MjekuMati

I have to disagree with the glorious pikmin 2 bit. I liked it, but I preferred 1 because of the time limit. That was the soul of pikmin imo and it got lost in the sequels. That was what made it interesting. Much like permadeath in fire emblem.

My biggest suggestion for pikmin 4 would be to include online multiplayer for pikmin bingo battle darn it! My wife and I played that so much, but if she wasn’t around...I couldn’t play it! It was awesome fun, but not super useable!

Re: Video: Let's Talk About Byleth In Smash Bros. And The Fourth House In Fire Emblem: Three Houses

MjekuMati

I’m certainly not disappointed. I love Fire Emblem. But I also just love new characters! I think it’s great to get any. To complain over addition of any character is childish. Removal? Maybe legitimate, but addition is just more goodness.
Would I have rather had someone else? I don’t know, because I don’t know how they’ll play compared to this one. My most recent preference would be Judd from Splatoon. Cats are sorely underepresented as a species in smash. There are dogs, and foxes and birds and gorillas and chimpanzees. But I don’t know if there are any felines in any form. Is there?

Re: EA Looking To Bring More Of Its Successful Games To Switch

MjekuMati

Whoever works at EA isn’t aware of what they have that would do well on switch. That seems to be the problem here.

Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare anybody? Why is this game not on switch? It’s literally the one EA game I would buy! I can’t honestly think of any other games they made that I want. And I’ve wanted that one for like 3 years!

Re: Final Fantasy VII Switch Update Finally Fixes That Annoying Music Bug

MjekuMati

I’ve been doing a let’s play on YouTube and my only comment in history talked about this. I had never noticed it, and even after he pointed it out I still didn’t remember to look for it and it never bothered me. I guess sometimes video game music is just generic enough that it doesn’t make a huge difference...?

Re: Daemon X Machina Demo Is Now Live On Switch eShop

MjekuMati

I wasn’t sure about this game because I just don’t like the music for it. It just doesn’t do it for me. I’d rather have a grunge or alt type of rock with it. It seems like it would fit the Wild West space vibes I get from it. Or even some sort of post apocalyptic country inspired music. Just not that awful metal. Some metal inspired music is okay (like Metroid). But this is just...not my jam.

However, the visual style is off the hook. When I actually played it, I was really impressed by the fluidity of the animations and the art looks better in person! I particularly like how the mechs glide along on the ground for some reason. It feels awesome. Flying around, boosting, running, shooting, swapping big guns off your back...it feels awesome! Also, the voice acting in English is pretty good! I didn’t cringe at all. They nailed it so far I think.

THIS is what I wanted xenoblade chronicles x to be, and then...it wasn’t and I was so disappointed.

If they could get the music right in this game it would be amazing. These giant mechs are so sweet, and gameplay hooks are there with the shooting, looting, upgrading and insane customization.

Re: Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido Has Shockingly Poor Launch In Japan

MjekuMati

Doesn't seem too surprising, really. It's $50!!

I played the demo, and I actually really loved it. It's really fun, and it was way funnier than I thought it would be. Part of that comes from the ridiculous seriousness they give to the story, which is based on a crazy idea of a war about sushi. It's funny how dramatic it is!

Is it worth $50 though?? I don't know. Also, I keep hearing about how it's super polished and all that. Has anybody actually looked at the backgrounds on parts of the game?? It's like a nintendo 64 polygon fiesta rezzed up to be sharp and crisp, and it looks SUPER junky. I wouldn't call that a high level of polish. I turned it on, saw those, and actually said out loud "what in the world?" Then I played it, and loved it.

Worth money? Yes. Worth $50...? I'm not sold on that part.

Re: Soapbox: Monster Hunter World Has Claimed Its Prize, But Capcom Shouldn't Forget Nintendo

MjekuMati

@nhSnork

I agree with the fidelity part. I've played hundreds of hours of monster hunter. I love the amazing graphics of this new world game, but I won't get to play it because I can't rationalize yet another system just for one game. The actual gameplay looks essentially identical, and so do the monster movements, hunter movements. The new movement options and gathering options aren't exactly gameplay changing, but they are cool. The upgrades to me, appear purely cosmetic. The particle effects are definitely impressive, but those don't make the game any different, really.

It's really just better quality images, the actual graphical quality in some ways is literally the same. For example, the guy's feet STILL just cut right through long armor when he's walking around. The little dust (scales??) bursts from the monster when you hit it actually look worse to me in some ways than the old "flash of light" effects.

Re: Feature: What We Expect From The Inevitable January 2018 Nintendo Direct

MjekuMati

I’d really like to see two things:
A fire emblem compendium with the gcn and wii games, OR better yet, fire emblem fates special edition HD. I haven’t played the birthright or revelations lines because I refused to buy them as dlc. Put them on one disk that I can buy from not scalpers and I’m in.

And 2, a kid Icarus uprising sequel! I loved the first, and it hasn’t gotten love lately.

Third, maybe a new luigi’s Mansion? Hey, a man can dream.

Re: Feature: Memorable Games of 2017 - Thumper

MjekuMati

I'm glad someone finally addresses the shoddy joy con sticks. My left joy con stick is garbage. I'm not a heavy use either, none of my console controllers have EVER given up the ghost. But I've had THREE blue joy con sticks that end up making awful grinding sounds when pressed foward and clicked in. I turned the first two in for refunds, and the third just started making it. It simply can't handle splatoon 2.

I have a pro controller now, and it's great. But you shouldn't have to buy a more expensive controller because you're worried about the build quality of the original one...

They are simply cheaply and horribly built, even though I love the switch overall.

Re: Review: DOOM (Switch)

MjekuMati

@Krull
I agree about the FPS vs TPS point, but they clearly said this is the BEST FPS they’ve ever played. That means they’re never played one higher than an 8/10.

Edit: I think they changed their review to read “one of the best” now. Either that or I hallucinated it this morning while I read it to the beautiful sounds of a screaming colicky baby.

Re: Review: DOOM (Switch)

MjekuMati

Is it just me or does the summary sound like it’s buidling up for a better score than an 8?

“The best FPS we’ve ever played...best in it’s class on switch...we LOVE the matchmaking so much Nintendo itself needs to do it that way...8/10”. Wait what? So the best possible score for an FPS is an 8? How did splatoon 2 get 10/10 but not this with a summary like that? Is it the technical hiccups?

Splatoon 2 is my favorite game on switch, by the way. All these superlatives in the review had me expecting more than 8/10, that’s all.

I’ve never even played the game and I’m ready to give it higher than that after reading the review, haha.

Re: Hands On: Seeking an Awakening in Fire Emblem Fates

MjekuMati

I couldn't be more excited for this game. Actually, I could if there were more special edition preorders open...

I also can't emphasize how much I agree with the decision to remove that weird petting thing. It was seriously weighing on my decision of whether or not to buy/keep the game, or just play through it once and sell it so as not to have weird stuff like that sitting around for my kids. I do think it would be a perfect opportunity for DLC, however, which I generally despise. Let whoever is pervy - I mean desperate - I mean weird - I mean, whoever doesn't believe in "censorship" based upon their upside down "moral standards" pay extra money to experience the weirdness that was the petting. It doesn't belong in a game like this, but I'm not opposed to letting someone pay for it, if they want to include it. Just don't include it prepackaged in.

All debate aside, I'm having a very difficult time deciding which side I'm going to go with. I thought for sure it would be Hashido, because they obviously look like the "good" guys. However, there seems to be some real emotional connection between the protagonist and his adopted siblings, who all seem basically good and want to change things. I might have to go with them out of some weird loyal feelings I have towards a bunch of characters.

Re: Feature: Time to Vote for Your Nintendo Life Game of the Year Awards 2015

MjekuMati

Splatoon is my favorite for Wii U, with MH4U my favorite for 3ds (Mario and Luigi isn't out in America, and I didn't buy CN: Steam due to cheapness - I suspect they'd be up there). Between MH4U and Splatoon? Thaaaaaat is a hard decision. More play time on MH4U for sure, but for sheer awesomeness/newness? I think I'd have to choose Splatoon. I can't decide!!
