Yet another announcement made during today's Nintendo Direct was news of a demo for DAEMON X MACHINA, the futuristic mech action game heading to Switch.
The demo (called 'Prototype Missions') is live on the eShop as we speak, and allows players to battle through four different missions while testing out the game’s basic controls and mech customisation options; the final mission will even give players the chance to try out a boss battle. The game's producer, Kenichiro Tsukuda, noted that the demo will only be available for a limited time, so make sure to give it a go while you can.
The game itself is still in development, but the team is working hard behind the scenes and wants your feedback. Apparently, a select group of those who try out the demo will be sent a short survey via email, although those who aren't selected are still encouraged to get in touch via social media.
More news will no doubt be shared in the future, but the game's segment in the Direct ended with a release window announcement. Tsukuda says the game "should" be arriving this summer - we'll have to wait and see if this window sticks.
Hands up, then. Who's trying out the demo immediately? Make sure to let us know how you get on in the comments.

already downloading... if this is as good as its trailers, this may be one of the big releases for me this year
I'll at least give it a go. Haven't been terribly interested yet, but maybe this will sway me to give a crap
This looks like the neatest exclusive this year.
By far my most anticipated game of the year
I expect great things from this! Can't wait to give the demo a try later.
Downloading as we speak...
Should be downloaded by now. Will give it a decent whirl soon.
I bet download numbers are crazy for this already. It looked fantastic!!
Downloading. Probably won't be able to play until after work tomorrow, but definitetly looking forward to it.
Played the demo for the first mission and I am now very eager to see if the full game holds up to this great first impression it gave me.
This looks excellent. Can’t wait to try it out.
Just an FYI - this isn't listed under "Demos" - it's more it's own thing.
Would be downloading now but Yoshi needs another moment.
Yoshi is a demo, it's on the main game page.
Downloading now.
But Final Fantasy IX is still only at 50% complete, and Captain Toad DLC, Chocobo’s Dungeon preload, Deltarune, Tetris 99 and Yoshi’s Crafted World Demo are all queued up ahead of Daemon X Machina.
Hurry up hurry up hurry up already...
Downloading!... thanks for the heads up!
Daemon + ANTHEM, I'll have all the Robot Action filled days I can wish for. Good times
Everybody downloading everything then? 😀
I’m in work, think I’ll leave it until the morning when I’m asleep!
This looks very promising even if I’ve never been a huge fan of Mech games. Except Virtual On, does that count?
A demo is a good idea for this one.
Plus, two exclusive new IP in a year? Crazy times.
This could be my consolation prize for the cancellation of Robotech; Crystal Dreams. Truly.
I must admit, the demo announcements was a pleasant surprise.
I love that they want feedback. Will download tonight.
Got a lot of Demos to be trying out in the coming days. This one is definitely on the list!
For a game that is not coming out for at least another 5 months it is pretty solid technically. This'll be a game to watch.
Man, this was one of the titles I'm looking forward too. Can't wait for it to release this summer ^_^
i have been eagerly waiting for this game, im a work now but will download this asap when I get home. Really looking forward to this.
I really hope they have motion controls. I'm horrible with aiming in handheld mode without pro controller and I'm not that great with pro controller either.
Why no online co-op? Would be perfect for this game, considering the mission based system and how you're basically shooting targets in a limited area.
I didn't notice any framerate issues and was boosting all around the boss.
It seems cool. I wasn't even interested and now I am. This year I'm gonna be so broke.
Does it play like Virtual-On?
@Steel76 Maybe reboot your system? Like @saintayu, I had no framerate issues. Neither did my buddy.
Looking forward to this game. Pre-ordered it last year on Amazon only for it to get cancelled. Ordered again tonight since it's listed once more. Downloading the demo now. I know how I'm spending tomorrow.
I found the controls stiff, the music ridiculous, the exposition very poorly timed in the middle of intense action, and the action itself messy, the screen too cluttered with text and targeting visuals. I think it all needs to be tightened up considerably. About the only thing I really enjoyed was the character creation. The biggest disappointment is the FEEL of the game. The weight and size of these machines is completely absent, and environment detail is previous gen or even mobile quality. I’ll monitor the game’s final development and release and see if comments and reviews bear out my first impressions.
Loved it. Boss took 4 tries because I was bad at life. Loved customizing myself and my mech. Definitely getting day one.
@Steel76 weird. I didn’t have any frame drops at all except on the loading screen and just for an instant...
I was really excited for this game but I don’t like how it feels at all. There’s no weight to your mech and simultaneously you doesn’t feel swift either. You literally feel like a floating reticle and that’s it.
So far I liked the demo, not loved it but really liked it. It can only improve from here. This is probably a sure purchase for me.
The Colossal Immortal in Rank D is tough!!!
I wasn’t sure about this game because I just don’t like the music for it. It just doesn’t do it for me. I’d rather have a grunge or alt type of rock with it. It seems like it would fit the Wild West space vibes I get from it. Or even some sort of post apocalyptic country inspired music. Just not that awful metal. Some metal inspired music is okay (like Metroid). But this is just...not my jam.
However, the visual style is off the hook. When I actually played it, I was really impressed by the fluidity of the animations and the art looks better in person! I particularly like how the mechs glide along on the ground for some reason. It feels awesome. Flying around, boosting, running, shooting, swapping big guns off your back...it feels awesome! Also, the voice acting in English is pretty good! I didn’t cringe at all. They nailed it so far I think.
THIS is what I wanted xenoblade chronicles x to be, and then...it wasn’t and I was so disappointed.
If they could get the music right in this game it would be amazing. These giant mechs are so sweet, and gameplay hooks are there with the shooting, looting, upgrading and insane customization.
Finished the demo.
Story and voice work is cool so far.
Character and mech visual customization is great.
Gameplay is smooth, never cumbersome like mech games often are.
The boss battle gives a lot of hope for some truly epic co-op battles.
Kinda slow and floaty but that actually helps in this case. I don't play in console mode and fast, precise 3D games are almost impossible for me to play on Switch but I was able to enjoy my time with this game. Art design is great but the technical limitations of the Switch are obvious. Seems like a very good game but probably just not for me.
Played the first two missions and loved it so far! Having the 60-second countdown before a mission ends means you can cheese your final score/payout a bit by hunting down a VP recovery, but looting enemy mechs for new parts is a plus. I'll concur that it's insane to expect players to keep track of the NPCs talking in the middle of a firefight, but whatever, it's just fluff.
Fells like Armored Core is back, which is a good thing.
@Ryu_Niiyama That's what caught my attention as well. It's good to hear they are looking directly for feedback, so I'll give the demo a go when I get the chance. It's been one of the games on my wish list since the announcement.
Downloaded demo last night. Planned to play it on train this morning but get I would spend the whole rip customising my character so gonna try it tonight.
Played the demo and died twice in the big mecha (boss). It's a very good game. Unfortunately it's not smooth and the frame drops below 30 fps which is not a very good thing but I would recommend to play with the TV settings with 60hz / 120hz etc to be smoother. I liked the fact that it has not a mindless run and shoot gameplay but you have to understand where to stand, shoot, recover, help your friends, etc. I will buy it.
@nofriendo Absolutely agree with your assessment.
I played the three missions and then deleted the demo.
I have issues with the colour schemes it’s all very bland and messy in the action.
I found the weapons had no feel of being shot and no skill to aiming. Move the reticle near to an enemy and the box goes red and even if the reticle is not even over the enemy it your shots land.
I just wanted the aiming to be motion controlled and the fact it was not an it was clunky it quickly became frustrating.
I think with all this hype this is going to be the switches version of Valhallas Devils Third in terms of a game hyped and promising so much and delivered poorly.
@Laxeybobby
And I completely agree with yours. One of the first things I thought when entering battle was there needs to be motion control. One has to stop piloting one's mech in order to aim and fire at the same time. With motion controls that wouldn't be necessary. Right you are too about the auto-aim, which turns firing into a mindless exercise. Perhaps there will be an option to turn this off? And I was able to turn off the background music, which removed an annoyance, but also served to highlight the lack of a decent soundtrack. In many ways the game feels retrograde, uninspired.
And can we also mention the mission briefings? Dialogue is laborious, with a halting visual component that severely dampens enthusiasm for the mission as you click through. There's a ton of exposition with no real background or character development. It's a big ask of a player who can't possibly have any investment.
This is the worst game I’ve ever played on Switch. Below 30 Frames in a super fast action game? Did the devs even play their own game? Everything abou this games sucks.
The music? Sucks for me (but ok, that’s taste based)
The color palette? Hurting my eyes.
The controls? Just tried it with dual joycons and it sucks. Why no gyro controls? It’s 2019, goddamnit.
The dialogues? Can’t barely hear them and what I could hear was garbage. All filler, no killer.
Why did they even hype this game? I feel it’s pointless. And I can play almost everything, from old school klick & point adventures, to music games, shooters, jump n runs, action adventure, 2D pixelated indie games.
Better cancel this game and do something different.
@saintayu I too didn't notice any bad frame rate dips. if the full game holds up i'm in. Have this pre-ordered already
@UnbreakableAlex stop making stuff up.
Some of us have had no problems with the game. I didn't even want it before the demo and now I do. If you don't want it don't buy it.
@rjejr wtf thanks I didnt know a yoshi demo was out!
@prince-jay I really enjoyed the Yoshi demo. Spaced out on this one once the tutorial started. Have to give it another go when I'm not half asleep just looking for some button mashing. I've never been good at controlling flying mechs.
