I loved this game. Played it at uni and dabbled with a lot of the mods. It's much more like Baldur's Gate than NWN with full party controls. That being said this type of game is meant to be played on PC so I'll be sticking with that for the keyboard.
@Jujuman Actually standard marketing rules are that price is part of the value proposition. If you price sonething low you mark it as disposable and cheap. Nintendo games feel premium in part because they retain value. If you constantly discount stuff you send a message to consumers in fact you actually train them to think your product isn't worth full price. I'm more likely to buy Nintendo games full price because a) they're quality and b) I know there's not much point waiting since they won't be discounted that quickly. I'm actually fine with Team Cherry starting low what irritates me is games being £80 at launch and £30 a year later. Especially given the tech isn't advancing much any longer.
@somnambulance Yes I can't remember the last time I bought a non Nintendo game at full price. I think it was FF Rebirth. I have to be a fan or hyped to pay that price. Especially because you know it'll be half price in 3 months. Game companies shoot themselves in the foot by charging so much at launch and cutting the price so much later. You just feel ripped off as the game doesnt feel worth the launch price.
I have such a big backlog of games I can't be upset at all really. I am 2/3 way through DQXI and so even when Bananza launches I cant start it. Coupled with whether I should or play something from my backlog "to play in 2025" list I created earlier in the year.
@Galaxy2IsTheGOAT I believe they fixed the calibration pointer drift issue in Switch 2 joycons. Nintendolife did a video testing this in skyward sword. Its a big improvement if true as recalibrating is very annoying.
Now I think the IR pointer was still more precise which could be problem with Yoshi and using his tongue in SMG2.
@Birdgas Very true. I think a lot of games struggle due to shaders. As I recall Metroid Prime, Rogue Leader and Twilight Princess were difficult/had most issues with Dolphin.
I really loved this game back on PC. Played it a lot at Uni. It was the last game that had gameplay like Baldurs Gate 1 and 2. Best thing was putting party back in after NWN stripped that out.
The analogue sensitivity is a real problem. Hopefully they will fix that because Link doesn't move as smoothly as he should. At this I thought it was input lag but it's the controller.
Is anyone else flummoxed by how people are still buying Mario Kart 8. Maybe Nintendo made a mistake by doing World given how 8 still has legs (bizarrely).
No and I am very disappointed but mostly because I want that Gamecube controller and I know it's going to be a nightmare once it goes on general sale. I got lucky with console itself with an invite from Amazon for Mario Kart bundle.
Currently in Japan and it was awesome but simultaneously painful how easy it was to get Snes and Famicom Switch controllers at Nintendo store which are still unavailable on store in UK. They also had N64 too.
I'll give it a go but as someone who has had a pinched nerve from work in forearm likely aggravated by bad posture this seems a bad idea. I am especially not liking the idea some people have to put it on their thigh as that seems a recipe for carpel tunnel syndrome. Just try placing your hand on thigh and clicking with index finger. For me it feels a more awkward and uncomfortable than when arm is out front. Imagine compounding that 1000 fold. It's not a good sign.
CRT filters can be good but it depends on implementation. It's much more than scanlines. Good ones can be very costly.
For me I'm particularly in favour of CRT filters for N64 and PSX. Older titles can look quite nice with crisp pixels and later 3D gens benefit from higher rendering but early 3D really benefits from all the bleed effects to cover up the tiny polygon counts and blend those heavily used 2D sprites/billboards and prerendered backdrops with polygons.
@nintendozach Paper Mario Origami was one of my favourite games. It might not be the RPG you want but it felt like an older style Zelda which I really appreciated.
@Lofoten Yes it would be even more of a rip off from artificial scarcity. Plus those cartridges will wear out.
I oppose current gen emulation but anyone criticising emulation as a whole thinks law equals morals (you're wrong, bad laws are immoral), doesnt care about videogame preservation (some if these companies no longer exist) or is unaware that their cartrdges will eventually rot and that services such as NSO can be withdrawn whenever and they along with rereleases will only accommodate popular content that was originally a commercial (not critical) success.
Emulation is incredibly important and does far more common good than bad
I am playing Tears of the Kingdom and its damaging attempts to cut my backlog down. After finishing I will probably give Sea of Stars, Octopath Traveller a go or reattempt Persona 5.
It feels kind of inevitable. I actually felt that things got increasingly hand holdy and linear by Skyward Sword. LttP and Ocarina had a pretty open structured overworld just you needed right tools to get secrets or unlock dungeons. By Wind Waker and TP the world only opened up by midway point. Then Skyward Sword barely had an overworld with everything unlocked in a linear fashion.
Im not sure we needed the BoTW extreme but its nice to have universally useful abilities vs one and done items. And to have open exploration as opposed to linear hallways. I guess Im glad they went in the direction of opening the game up after years of closing things down.
I suspect its not that far off. I reckon the launch titles will be Mario and Metroid Prime 4. I think Nintendo will launch these as exclusives. Maybe Metroid will span both but at this point it might not.
Definitely resonated with me. Life even when it's good can feel like a grind. I think videogames for a lot of us (certainly me) are something to look forward to and a way to escape it. I also liked his believable facial reactions vs the previous ad I'd saw.
@samuelvictor Ahh very cool I know these remakes. The only thing for me is I really like the classic SMS levels. A remix mode is cool but I'd love a classic version of Sonic 1/Sonic 2 that had widescreen but fewer changes.
Sooo... being what I consider a relatively true classic sonic fan I have mixed opinions. Amazing on the Amy inclusion. Seriously Sonic Advance added her and it's just a change that makes sense (Honestly it might be fun to save Sonic in CD ). But seriously she's a classic character so I'm very keen on seeing her playable moreso than Mighty and Ray.
Secondly this sounds like they might be improving options and physics for the trilogy (I hope this is true).
Lastly on a personal level the treatment of the Gamegear games is upsetting. I live in Europe and I didn't have a Megadrive and grew up with Master System Sonic. I really wish we were getting those vesions and it would be SOOO easy.
However Triple Trouble did not release on Master System so it would have felt incomplete anyway. I really hope one day they do the Sonic 1-3 Genesis treatment for the GameGear games. There is a fan project that's done this, it's rough and unpolished but I REALLLLLY hope a future compilation invests in these in same way as RetoEngine was allowed to. They are games burned into my memory as a child growing up and I think they stand up (even in Mania callbacks to Silver Sonic). I know they will never be as celebrated as the Mega Drive versions but they were excellent games that brought Sonic into my life so I really hope we can get good versions.
Hmm Sonic 3 barrel got me also. I had Sonic Jam and would always play normal instead which took it out.
Zelda Links Awakening as a kid I got stuck in bottle grotto 2nd dungeon for years because I didnt know the names of monsters and you had to kill them in a certain order... I also thought I could wake wind fish by playing fishing minigame.
@bluemage1989 So Sonic 2 being utterly broken because Tails gets stuck offscreen and jumps repeatedly is acceptable? Half assed implementation of drop dash without the jump lock removed. Awful phoned in replacements of MJ music in Sonic 3. Save functionality downgrade from mobiles.
These should be definitive versions not inferior to what fans have done.
Sonic 1 Forever Sonic 2 Absolute Sonic 3 AIR
These are superior. Why is Sega incapable of outdoing fans. Fangames are notorious for being worse than official efforts. Why is this not the case with Sonic.
@bluemage1989 wrong the developer behind Sonic 3 port and Sonic Mania is not happy with state of things. You clearly are happy to settle for mediocrity.
@samuelvictor Sounds like a cool project. I actually started on 8 bit Sonic on the SMS and those games dont get the love they deserve. Is this related to the 8 bit remakes I've seen floating around that redesign the SMS games. Or something different?
@chipia These are full on remakes using the Reto Engine from Sonic Mania that was exclusive to mobile and not available at all for S3&K. They are widescreen and add new gameplay tweaks (like Tails flying in S2 and Knuckles in Sonic 1). Lastly they have added intro cutscenes in a story mode that links the games. Coupled with tons of extras like mission mode and a museum theres a lot of reasons to be excited.
@samuelvictor since you mention sonic jam i must mention that the menu music is a throwback to sonic jams "sonic world" too and looks like we're getting a museum and videos. This compilation is a massive love letter to fans.
@Devann wrong there's plenty for older fans and sonic fangame community is plenty excited. As if new fans care about hidden palace in sonic 2 or the presence of the dropdash they showed in the trsiler.
Meh I kinda went off this. The original artstyle was nicer than this isometric look. Also it originally sounded more like a harry potter version of stardew valley with magic sandbox and id presume combat. This seems further from thatvthan id like.

Probably get this for the Steamdeck and PS5. I don't want to support key cards.

@Jhena Why lol. They've released tons of good games recently.
FF7 Rebirth (best reviewed FF in decades)
FF16
Star Ocean 2 Remake
Octopath Traveller 2
They've also experimented with lots of great stuff like Harvestella, localised a new Dragon Quest Monsters game.
We've got more on the way with Visions of Mana, FFXIV expansion, FFXVI DLC and part 3 of FF7 remake.
