I think it honestly depends on the era your used to. Im mid 30s so SNES/Genesis/GB was my era and Im used to that style and it means I tend to be fine playing unfaimiliar games from that era.
I struggle to play NES anything. I enjoy Super Mario (tho prefer all stars) and felt original Zelda had its moments but was overall frustrating more than fun by end.
I would say that I really enjoyed the mobile remakes of DQ1-3 (hate most remakes). I found the gameplay to have a timeless feel and mobile convenience meant I could save any time and grind on the train. I go so far as to say I prefer those to more modern DQ.
I had Starwing on the SNES and liked it. But I remember being blown away by the jump from that to Lylat Wars. Really sold the N64 to me. And I remember enjoying more than Mario 64 that Xmas I got the console.
I guess similarly Rogue Leader sold the Gamecube being a huge jump from Rogue Squadron. I miss that style of game.
Its very addictive. Its got that moment to moment gameplay. Im a bit of traditionalist but Ive been having great fun and if this becomes the future of Pokemon then Im in.
I found Sun and Moon suffocating and never got the praise. I think Swird and Shield are actually better for letting the reins off at least. People complain about this games tutorial but at least i can walk more than 5 feet without being stopped for some plot point.
No more random pokemon blocking me from walking 5 feet off intended progression path.
I think the graphics are okayish personally. I actually think Gamefreak make very nice graphics when they're designing small areas. They dont have the expertise yet to make great open areas. And the Switch does not help because it limits texture resolution and is underpowered so unless youre a super experienced dev at doing this you'll struggle.
So far it has a wonderful artstyle, I like the fresh setting and story and the mechanics feel great. I hope this is a stepping stone for future mainline or legends evolves as a standalone spinoff.
Was very attached to the originals when younger was around my uni days (best era of Pokemon imo) but these are a hollow shell with gutted difficulty and removal of platinum content. So Ill not be picking them. Id rather play my copies of Platinum and HG.
@MikeGold not necessarily a good thing that. Like P5R is great but having an upgrade option for people that bought original would be a good thing in this day and age
I think this thing is too expensive. And Im disappointed that we're getting Genesis games instead of Gameboy. And have no interest in AC DLC (the new stuff seem lame to me).
That said I loved N64 growing up so will be getting this as well as the the controller. The only thing that might stop me is if the emulation is bad.
Hate myself a little bit for doing it but there you have it.
@Wexter You're wrong. Christian Whitehead is part of the Sonic Retro community and created fan games that built his expertise before he created the retro engine. Sega doesn't shut that stuff down allowing it to grow and develop. The result is an amazing knowledgeable developer fanbase.
On Bethesda you're right for the most part. But Skyblivion skirts close to the lines and they mostly appease Bethesda by stating their requirement that people will need to own Oblivion to play Skyblivion. If Bethesda planned to release an Oblivion remake I doubt they'd allow it to continue.
@CactusMan Another moronic response. See Sonic Mania (or Sonic 1 and 2 mobile ports) for what can be produced when a company properly recognises and harnesses the love its fanbase has for one of it's franchises.
No-one debates the legality of what Nintendo does but you have to question the close-minded logic behind it. Just being in your rights to do something doesn't mean you must exercise those rights.
@JoeSooper This is a smart response. Who knows Nintendo have been licensing out increasingly. Always a chance this might happen one day.
Dread looks awesome though. The one difference imo is that Nintendo still means quality unlike Sonic Team's dismal efforts. So fans can't exactly be saviours as the company in question is still doing great stuff.
@Ralizah Let's not be too harsh to Persona 5. That game proves artstyle trumps technicals. I kind of wish that SMT would develop a distinctive game art style as sharp as the character designs because it would really help it punch more above it's weight.
@YoungLink64 I was the same but I managed to get some enjoyment out of the original completing it in run up to BoTW. Looking at what constitutes combat in Zelda 2 that ones a hard pass. But the original Zelda doesn't measure up in anyway to series LttP onwards
Playing FF7 Remake but I do plan to play the metroids and paused for a few hours to run through Zero Mission. Was shorter than I remember it being. Debating whether to replay Samus Return (finished it 18 months ago) or go straight on to Super Metroid which Ive still never completed. Will then do fusion if course.
I was a bigger fan of Sonic than Mario growing up. I played the Master System and Mega Drive games to death.
These days I'm a semi lapsed fan. I have to admit the quality is mostly gone. I view the older 3D games as superior to newer ones. I still have hope theyll do something good. I quite enjoyed colors so hopeful of remake though the 2D stop start platforming was not good imo in the original.
I stopped liking their 2D games after Sonic Advance 3 and have no clue why anyone likes Rush.
Sonic Mania was a massive exception to this and is the best Sonic game ever made imo.
Reminds me of the 3DS DQ VII in terms of graphical style. I mean I'm just happy we'll have a way to play the whole series in the West because this is a shoe-in for localisation.
I played the mobile version of first 4 Dragon Quests a few years back and I have to say that 3 was easily my favourite. This remake looks beautiful and I'm sure it bodes well for getting similar remakes of 1 and 2 since 3 would be the biggest lift by far.
I like the gameplay and the graphics, but I want them to take more chances with these stories. Final Fantasy IV, VI-IX were great because they told fantastic stories that did something a bit different. These callbacks never seem to recognise that and always just stick to super safe crystal nonsense from what I see.
@TryToBeHopeful Removing a political symbol from a game for being controversial is censorship. It is pretty clear-cut even if it's a business decision. Nintendo removing blood from Mortal Kombat was also a business decision "family values" alongside being a crazen move pandering to conservative ideologies at the time about completely baseless concerns about violence in videogames.
@TryToBeHopeful Rights can be taken away and expression of opinion can be censored. I don't want things being taken out of games because it's considered distasteful by people. I don't want blood removed from Mortal Kombat or made green for "encouraging violence", I don't want Christian symbols removed from SMT for being "blasphemous", I don't want a symbol of the sun removed for being "political" and I don't want Mirandas butt de-emphasised for being "sexist". I want games to be uncensored - because ultimately anyone can be offended by anything.
@T0mizawa So true lol. All these so-called "awakened" companies are happy to criticise things in the west or liberal countries. As soon as it could mean passing on the china growth story though theyre quick to shutup. What company has stopped dealing with china as a result of the atrocities theyre committing in xinjiang. Just shows the absolute hypocrisy.
@johnvboy This is very true. I remember when the right wing were pro censorship of blood and sex on the basis of christian values. And the left were truly liberal and anti censorship. Now the left are worse than the right wanting to censor things like mirandas butt in mass effect or anything that involves an offhand stereotype due to the liberal ideology. Its funny to see how things change. Overall Im always anti censorship even if i disagree with whats being portrayed.
@GannonBanned Tell that to people put in Gulags by Soviet Union. Far Left and Far Right are united in their desire to trample on individual rights and individual freedoms in the rush to build their differing utopias. Thats why China in some ways can be both. What unites them is an intolerance for others views and finding ways to shut them down. Anyone supporting democracy should always seek to uphold the side against censorship.
I get this sentiment, but I would never get as far the final boss and pullback at that final point. For me when I get around 50%-66% I start getting cold feet about being done with the game.
This happened to me with Mass Effect 3 after I had replayed 1 and 2 countless times. I knew when I finished 3 I'd likely never go back again. Sure enough I haven't.
I finally finished BoTW over Christmas though after numerous restarts and I have to say the overall feeling is one of relief - not because I didn't have blast playing because I really did, but now I can play other games without being drawn back to it and actually move on and look forward to the sequel.
My wife and I played the Wii U to full completion. Its very underrated by gamers who dont get that its the first time weve been able to play a Mario in coop style.
I for one am excited about Captain Toad supporting more people as it was always a fight as to got to do them.
Bowsers Fury looks like an intriguing a mishmash of odyssey with 3D World.
Im a bit nervous about physics adjustments since i felt 3d world was already perfect albeit on the easy end.
However I cannot wait to dig into the game again. Im really hoping therell be a new secret character or final level.
@johnvboy Hope you're referring to sales. The 3DS blew the DS out of the water when it came to quality games. Namely we actually got decent Fire Emblem, Zelda and Mario games. DS was a disappointment for me overall way too much touchscreen emphasis and the console couldn't really handle the 3D and many games suffered as a result. Pokemon HG/SS and FFIV Remake and some decent Atlus games were its saving grace and backwards compatibility with the far superior GBA catalogue.
@DeclanS98 I mean they do. So does Google. Not on the first page as determined by their faceless algorithm then you might as well not exist as a company (increasingly pushed by their search engine design). The power these platforms wield is obscene AND given they've dropped the position of not policing content and being conduits they now need to show they can do it properly or be dismantled.
I loved 64 and Melee. Lots of memories of playing 64 with group of friends. Melee more so as singleplayer. I loved the adventure mode and statues.
Brawl and onwards has been a bit of a letdown. I enjoyed Subspace Emissary but it didn't feel like Smash but a brawler and when I finished it I didn't really want to play it much more. I figure I didn't like controls that much.
I enjoyed the Wii U one even played some online but never loved it.
The Switch one I've barely played but the spirit board seems a bit cheaply produced compared to adventure mode and subspace emissary.
I love the Witcher game series but Witcher 3 does feel a bit Ubisoft at times. The quests are good stories but outside of them mdchanically your running between minimap icons a lot. Only Skyrim and BoTW really use their open worlds well. Skyrim is just full of interesting things to see (and on the whole doesnt disappoint) BoTW mastered weaning people off minimap icons and forced them to look around the world. If I were to pick a real game of the decade something I enjoy and had a big impact then its got be Skyrim. I doubt BoTW or Witcher 3 would exist in current form without that game and despite everyone saying its dated what other game really throws you into a world and lets you roleplay being whatever. Also noone else has replicated its skills system or filled their worlds with anything approaching its density of real content. Skyrim is a proper open world which a lot of cynical companies tried to replicate and mostly failed.
Played the Gamecube version. It was a good game. Amazing unique setting, decent plot and fantastic ship to ship battle system. I remember it being a bit grindy and the standard battle system not being fantastic (it works but didnt make combat fun). I made it about 3/4 of the way through. Dropping over half the Pokemon is demoralising. The fact they d protest it is based on the fact they care and really love Pokemon.
@Browny It tones down the waifu element massively from Fates and Awakening. Supports tend to be more serious and connected to plot. School element is done well as setup..
@ComposedJam I like starting again but after E4 I like transferring old ones. Occasionally I've bred my own level 1 starter and brought it in with Bank to have a different experience. Im not a competitive battler I like breeding and gradually growing up a strong multi gen team of my favourites. Its how I like to play the games. Now it feels like theyre making Pokemon and mechanics disposable and I dont know if that stuff has the same appeal. It would be different if they said this is the 1st HD Pokemon and next will have all of them or they'll add them over time. But it looks like a new policy and will be every game going forwards. I could live with lets go doing this but not mainline.

Yes Id be massively down for this. I agree thst jd rather a collection with that battle game included though.

Re: BioShock: The Collection Could Be Coming To Switch According To New Rating
Fantastic news. Honestly I keep wondering where all the PS3 and X360 ports are considering the system is easily powerful enough to run them.
In particular Mass Effect trilogy, Dead Space, GTA IV and V, Red Dead Redemption, Half Life 2, Portal, Dishonored, Deus Ex: HR should be brought over.
Re: Skies Of Arcadia Dev "Really" Wants To Make A Sequel
