Re: Nintendo Has Announced the End of the Wii Shop Channel

MakeMyBiscuit

I LOVE the Wii VC and WiiWare and still play those games today. IMO a these are very under appreciated features of the Wii. I will definitely be picking up more games and I appreciate Nintendo giving us a heads up rather than just closing down the service with no notice. All together I have bought a couple of hundred games from Wii VC and WiiWare. Highly recommend you pick up some of these games and especially the N64 games because they look great on modern TVs. Nintendo really did a good job of improving the picture quality of the N64 games on the service. BTW this is a great reason why you don't want to skimp on memory cards and get the cheap ones. This is why I invested in a high quality 32 GB SanDisk SD card for my Wii a while ago so I hope to be able to enjoy these games in the years to come. This does bring up some of the down sides of digital games though.

Re: Nintendo Made Us A Better Developer, Says Metroid: Samus Returns Studio MercurySteam

MakeMyBiscuit

Great article. I already have the Samus Returns Special Edition on pre-order. This article perfectly displays why the gaming industry needs Nintendo, "Nintendo is a one-of-a-kind publisher that make one-of-a-kind games. They're special. They are unique. They care about games. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that after two years, 80 or 90% of all the conversations we've had were about stuff that gamers care about. Only the remaining 10 or 20% were about business or usual publishing stuff. That ratio is unique to Nintendo. " Quality is never an accident and that definitely applies to Nintendo. I don't know where the video gaming industry would be without Nintendo which is why I am glad the Switch was so well received.

BTW I loved Mirror of Fate on the 3DS and even more playing on the New 3DS with the stable 3D. I also got the HD release for the Xbox 360.

Re: Secret Of Mana Is Getting A 3D Remake, But Guess What Console It's Not Coming To

MakeMyBiscuit

I LOVE Secret Of Mana! Strange this re-release did not come out on the Switch or the 3DS but it is nice to see the Vita get some love. I hope it gets localized for the US, I will definitely pick it up for the Vita. Don't hate but I still don't have a Switch. I actually bought one but returned it to put my money toward the Xbox One X. I don't own an Xbox One so I have almost 3 years of free Xbox One games from Xbox Live I own but can't play so the One X was a no brainer for me. I know I will be getting a Switch but in the mean time I am enjoying games on my 3DS and believe it or not but I still buy games for my Wii VC and WiiWare. I must have over 200 games on my SD card in my Wii. If you have not played the original Secret of Mana I believe it is still on the Wii VC service.

Re: 'Next Gen Nintendo 64 Controller' from Retro Fighters Smashes Kickstarter Target

MakeMyBiscuit

AWESOME! Just backed it! I was looking for a good controller for my N64 since my collection of games have grown and I found a good way to get great picture quality using my HDTV.

Here are some quotes directly from their Kickstarter page:

Why no USB?

It would have cost us a lot more time and money to come up with a controller with both N64 and USB functionality, the software and time to do so would have been too long to complete and too costly.

However, If you do want to use the N64 controller for PC, it is possible, there are several cheap adapters in the market that you can purchase online to play the N64 Retro Fighters Controller with your PC / MAC / or RetroPie etc.

If this Kickstarter is successful, we plan to release a 2nd USB version of this controller.

Cost

We wanted to keep the cost down as much as possible, yet not skimp on quality, we are essentially passing on the savings to our backers to get this product made. We are selling these versions at $20 each.

It looks like their Kickstarter is very successful. At the time of posting this they are now up to $80,967 and their goal was $13,000 so it looks like they will be working on the USB controller. They also mention how they want to pass the savings onto their backers and I have no problems with that. It sounds like the controllers will cost more outside of this Kickstarter.

Just looking at how quickly they reached their goal just shows how popular the N64 still is!

BTW Here is a link to their Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1247448559/next-gen-n64-nintendo-64-controller

Re: Epic Mickey Was One Of The High Points Of My Career, Says Warren Spector

MakeMyBiscuit

@Pinkman Me too. The 2 Epic Mickey games were and are AMAZING and you can see all the love that went into them both PLUS they were a breathe of fresh air during a time where FPS games were the norm. Thank you Mr. Spector for having the courage and vision to lead the team than created the incredible worlds realized in these 2 Epic Mickey games and thank you for putting such strong support behind the Wii especially with he first Epic Mickey game during a time many developers said the Wii was "underpowered" and just could not produce amazing graphics. You proved them wrong with these games and proved them to just be lazy! These games are 2 more reasons I will not be selling my Nintendo Wii anytime soon. The games looks great when played via component cables! BTW the Collector's edition release of Epic Mickey for the Wii with the special edition Mickey Mouse figure and the bonus DVD was fantastic! I'm glad I was able to get one back when it was released

Re: Creator Of Cancelled Metroid Fan Game AM2R Is Looking Forward To Samus Returns

MakeMyBiscuit

@ShadJV Agreed! It is nice to see that someone understands what it is like to be responsible for running a company with actual people who are expecting to get money every payday. You can only take so many risks and unlike Sony who also makes TVs and other electronics, or even Xbox because they also have Windows 10 support, Nintendo does not have other revenue streams. They are primarily a video game company and will live or die by their IPs.

Re: MercurySteam Elaborates On How It Came To Work On Metroid: Samus Returns

MakeMyBiscuit

I already pre-ordered it! This remake is more than I could have imagined for Metroid 2. Again if you have not downloaded the 3D trailer on for your 3DS, do it! WOW! I LOVE the fact that Nintendo is releasing this on the 3DS. The 3DS is still an amazing system and the 3D on the New 3DS is hands down the best implementation of glasses-free 3D available on any device. I wonder if this game takes advantage of the additional power of the New 3DS?

Thanks again Nintendo! I can't wait

Re: Metroid: Samus Returns Resurrects Game Boy Classic "In A Completely New Way", Says MercurySteam

MakeMyBiscuit

@the8thark I don't think so. The developer of AM2R made that game of his own free will and he even said is skills improved from doing it. It was a labor of love for him. As much as I would have liked for Nintendo to take Sega's approach with indie developer game turned into an official Sonic Mania release (and they still could do it), this is Nintendo and they don't produce a ton of games but they do put out quality games so it is smart for them to guard their IPs.

Re: Metroid: Samus Returns Resurrects Game Boy Classic "In A Completely New Way", Says MercurySteam

MakeMyBiscuit

@beazlen1 Yes it will be in 3D. I know I already pre-ordered it! You can download the demo video in the eShop on your 3DS to get a taste and it looks a lot better in 3D than the E3 videos show. Again only downloadable video is in 3D. The streaming trailer is not in 3D. I also suggest putting on a good pair of headphones. Enjoy! I can't wait for this game! I am going to replay the original Metroid and Zero Mission just to get ready

Re: Editorial: The 3D Effect - A Smart 3DS Feature That Struggled to Find Its True Depth

MakeMyBiscuit

I LOVE the 3D on the 3DS. The New 3DS with face tracking made it even better. This is what helps set the 3DS apart. I also loved and missed all those 3D videos Nintendo used to put out. To me, this is what will always set the 3DS apart even from the Switch. The two systems offer different experiences. I am still waiting for the Virtual Boy games to be released on the 3DS. Original and updated color versions of the games would be AMAZING! Nintendo please don't completely give up on 3D! BTW I own a 3D TV and when there is an option I almost always buy the 3D version of the movie. 3D done right just can't be matched.

Re: Review: Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (Wii U)

MakeMyBiscuit

Just got my Kickstarter code for Steam. Plays perfectly with the Xbox360 controller. This game just screams quality! Highly recommend! Regardless of the platform, find a way to play this game legally and enjoy. We have to pay back those who put so much work into this game. I still have to finish the original the GBC VC

Re: Poll: The Wii U is Four Years Old, But What Is Its Legacy?

MakeMyBiscuit

I never got a Wii U. I have a HUGE Wii library but I also have a HUGE Gamecube library and the gen 1 Wii was a perfect way for me to play my Gamecube games in 480p on my HDTV. If the Wii U could play Gamecube games as well as Wii games I would have considered getting one. Another knock against the system for me was the poor video quality for VC games. I have around 200 combined VC and WiiWare games on my Wii and I still buy games for it today. The Wii is my retro gaming system and it just did it better than the Wii U especially with the SD card fix on the Wii. I have a SanDisk 32GB Ultra SD Card in there now and I still have plenty of room for more games. No disrespect to WiiU owners out there but to me, the Wii U is just a source of good games to port to the Switch.

Re: Review: F-Zero X (Wii U / N64)

MakeMyBiscuit

I had no issue with the game on the original Wii VC. Another one of the many, many reasons why I am holding on to my gen 1 Wii. I just have 2 games to go and I will have all the N64 games available on the Wii VC. Wii VC via component cables is really a great way to play N64 games on modern TVs.

Re: The Nintendo DSi Shop Shuts Down Next Year

MakeMyBiscuit

There are some great games for the platform that I am still going to pick up but Nintendo really limited themselves with the memory. If they had a memory solution like on the Wii where you could play games from the SD card I know they would have sold more games. Having to transfer games from the SD card to the internal memory got old quick. Anyone know how much longer they will keep the Wii VC and WiiWare going? I know I am still buying games for both platforms.

Re: Review: Final Fight 3 (New 3DS / SNES)

MakeMyBiscuit

Wish this was still on the Wii VC. It had 2 player mode still intact. I don't know why they removed it. I would have picked up up there. I am still buying Wii VC games because they look and play great on that platform.

Re: Wii U Version Of Hyper Light Drifter Is Officially Cancelled

MakeMyBiscuit

No worries Alex. Thank you for all the effort you put into this game. I picked it up on PC and it is AMAZING! Please take care of your health! Thank you for sharing this WONDERFUL game with us. If you have not played this game, you don't even need a really high power PC to run the game. If you have not played the game yet get it on PC.

Re: Feature: A Close Look at AM2R - The Metroid Game That Fans Deserve

MakeMyBiscuit

This reminds me of what Taxman and Stealth did with 2D Sonic games. Sega ended up hiring them and now they are behind the upcoming "Sonic Mania". Here is the story if you have not seen it: https://youtu.be/omKGDC4JaMU I was so impressed I actually just bought Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 from the Google play store for the Xperia Play Phone. Nothing like playing a quality Sonic game on the go with physical buttons! I also have the 3D Sega Classics for my 3DS but I have my phone with me all the time unlike my 3DS and Taxman and Stealth even added the new level "Hidden Palace Zone" for Sonic 2. These are FANTASTIC versions of the original Sonic games (I also have Sonic CD). Nintendo should really think about doing the same thing while they themselves work on bigger projects. Real fans will fork over the money to buy proper ports of franchises they love. I know I did.
