"My main problem is that the story tells you to collect all the Pokemon possible and encourages you to build varied teams but the game is so easy that building complex teams and collecting a bunch of Pokemon kinda fells pointless."
This is interesting. In my opinion, making it easier encourages you to build more complex teams. Why make it harder to build a complex team? This is why I prefer this gen over the older gens. Make it easier to build a team, so I can spend less time on "grinding" and more time on strategy...
@jowe_gw I'll admit that the campaign was not difficult at all and could have had more depth. However, pokemon has always been about the post game for me. Building up teams, developing battling strategies and playing against others. This game genuinely makes it easier to breed for good IVs, and EV train pokemon without as much of the "grinding" that you had to do back in the day, obtaining items, etc. This is why i like it a lot.
I almost didn't get the game due to all of the negative criticisms, but I caved in one day an bought the game. Oh man, I am so glad that i did, the best pokemon game experience i've had since some of the originals and I've played most of them. The game mechanics make it much easier to catch pokemon and build a dream team. I think they did well in combining certain GO mechanics to the original formula. Loving the game.
How about a in-game voting system to end the game due to severe lag? 2 votes required for 1v1, 2 votes required for 3 players, 3 votes required for 4 players....
Smash, while being an awesome game, does not have the fan base that pokemon has, so I don't see it being able to match the sales figures of PLGP and PLGWE.
agreed, enjoying this pokemon game more than most others in the past, including the recent sun/moon versions. It's refreshing to choose which wild pokemon you encountner, and I prefer the candy system over the EV system. Lastly, it is visually pleasing compared to playing on a crappy 3ds screen.
Enjoyed unlocking the characters in this game and the unique features that it offers. In my opinion it's the best mario party yet, and i've played them all since the first mario party on the n64. The only thing it could use are some more boards, but I believe that nintendo will release more with DLC in the future.
As a former pc gamer in my mid 30's and I appreciate the switch. Now that i have a wife and two young kids, it's nice to pick up a quick game of kart or worms when im ready as i dont have much time for gaming. I even enjoy doom, having previously played it on the pc, as i got tired of mouse and keyboard gaming and find the gyro aiming to be a welcome relaxing compromise. Is there room for improvement? Absolutley, but I enjoy it nonetheless. It came in handy when moving between homes and not having access to a tv.
I agree with you completely, these type of physical retail cartridges which require a download component are a waste of money. Better to go digital for these particular types of games.
@OorWullie Here is a snippet from a nintendo life article:
As far as the process goes, you're basically done. The only thing to bear in mind is that of course none of the games from your other micro SD card will be present, but their icons will be accompanied by a little cloud icon. Of course, this can also be applied to new games you purchase from the eShop, allowing you to flip between SD cards depending on what games you want to play and when. This process becomes especially helpful when downloading larger games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Thanks, I honestly am not 100% sure as I have only one SD card at the moment, although I came to this conclusion based on my own research with the switch. Perhaps I will test and report back on this thread.
what do you mean download the games again?? Certain games would be on certain SD cards, put in the SD card with the game that you want to play. The major advantage is that I can have multiple games per SD card, while the physical retail cartridge can only have a single game.
I have a switch and am 100% digital (obviously) because I prefer not having to constantly switch gaming cartridges in order to play a different game, and I live in a third world country which loves to put heavy taxes on imported games. Sure, I may have to get multiple SD cards at some point, but that's still a lot less swapping around then using physical cartridges. Even the 32GB of internal storage is of no concern for me as i would only use it for the OS anyway. The biggest concern for me and nintendo's products has always been the lack of cloud storage saves. If the system dies/is stolen/becomes in accessible etc, then that would be irritating. LOL and please do not compare to attaching an external drive to other systems, since they are NOT portable. Nintendo may indeed support that in the future for the switch, but of course, you can kiss portability for those particular games goodbye!
Digital music, digital movies, etc.. Physical media is dying, that's why the industry is moving in this direction, they expect you to just buy digital one time. lol, how many of you still use music CD's? LOL, I enjoy using my mp3's on my phone and a bluetooth connection to a sound system.
I agree with you. Most games have a physical install requirement and this is really no big deal. Sure I agree with those who are unhappy that the physical cartridge is a waste of time, but in my opinion, based on shorter lifespan of these systems and how affordable SD cards are, Physical games on the whole are a waste of time, unless you plan to sell them. Even when i had a xbox one all of my games were digital. Hell, all of my PC games are digital (steam). When you lose the ability to play, then that's just life, lol, nothing lasts for ever, enjoy the game while it is relevant/available and move on. Let the value be in the experience you get from the game, not the physical copy, or being able to play it for years to come. Either way, if you are that concerned either go with a service like steam, which has been around for years and is here to stay, or hope that nintendo will make all of there digital games downloadable on their future systems (will probably never happen, even other consoles don't allow you to play ALL of the older games, only some).
Next to zelda, this is my most highly anticipated game. To me this embodies the vision that I have for the switch, to be a portable fun family multiplayer device. My wife and I will have a lot of fun with this, and hopefully my daughter once she gets a little older. If Nintendo can acquire more fun unique multi-player games like this, then I think it can do extremely well.
Subscription service is the way to go. Why pay for each game individually on every console? Have a subscription service which gives you access to the whole library, but perhaps limit the number of titles that can be access simultaneously, after all, it is all OLD content.
No offense people, but while the game looks like it will be nice to play, the visuals are not really that impressive at all, those textures were horrible. Splatoon is still my most anticipated game for this year.
I missed the direct earlier, but I am glad at the developments for this game. This is my most anticipated game for 2015, and I am glad it's coming out in May!
The real solution for nintendo is to find out what the young and current generation of gamers want from a mobile gaming device. I will tell you though, most likely it is not a nintendo gaming phone. It would most likely be a niche and not do well at all. A better idea would be to either release the games for IOS or android and manufacturers could come up with whatever kind of control scheme that they want, whether it be touch screen or a physical attachment, OR, nintendo could simply continue to upgrade it's gameboy/DS device to take advantage of newer technologies. Doing both however is definitely not be advised as the former would hurt the latter.
@BensonUii I agree with you there, the only thing better than wiimote and nunchuck is the mouse and keyboard (i am an old pc gamer).
@PvtOttobot This is an interesting solution as long as you don't HAVE to look at the gamepad screen to use it. I hate when I have to look at the gamepad screen for extended periods. The resolution is lower and it hurts my eyes after a while.
Splatoon is my most anticipated game for 2015, even more than zelda. It's unique and looking really good.
@Spoony_Tech @Ralek85 Lack of in game voice chat will definitely hurt this game as it is needed for proper team work. Hopefully they do add it, and that it works with a head set!
The PDP ones never did look good to me, so i purchased one of the Hori controllers and I must say that while I am impressed with the feel of it, the analog sticks do not have enough resistance for me, but my younger sister loves using it. I honestly think that the pro controller is the best option for the wii u.
@Yorumi
I agree 100%. Although I did not say it directly, Nintendo is indeed enforcing the kids only image by only having kids in their commercials. The ones with adults do promote someone what of a family image, but the "kiddy" image is more pronounced. As for the third party games, while they do exist, as we can see, they are now next to being non-existent for current and future releases.
@kereke12 I do not think advertising will help that much. I believe that most people simply do not care about nintendo any more and see them as "irrelevant" and "only for kids." In some ways they are right. Without third party support, they are simply a niche which most people simply do not care about. Only us older gamers can really appreciate the nintendo franchises and how they have evolved, but for the younger folks, they couldn't care less as the console is severely underpowered and has limited gaming options as a supposed gaming machine. As time progresses, I am caring less right now.
As a nintendo/pc gaming fan since the early 90s, While I am enjoying my Wii U, I would also say that I would not get another nintendo console. While I enjoy nintendo's exclusives more than any other console, I do miss at least having the option of playing some of the major third party titles.
Mario kart and smash have been my main games from their inception. They should stop making home consoles and put their games on other systems. Either way I will enjoy my Wii U to the end. Thanks nintendo for many years of solid gaming.
