These amiibo are quite a puzzling thing for me. The more i learn about them, the more i feel that they are just an unnecessary add-on that has no real appeal. Smash has the most interesting application so far, at least, if you could plan tournaments around them, you and your amiibo against other teams of the same nature. However,the best application may indeed be for pokemon.
The biggest part of the direct for me as well was the splatoon footage as this is my most anticipated game for 2015. Overall, the direct was dissapointing. Nintendo missed an opportunity not only for a smash demo, but also for releasing n64 VC on the wii u. Also, i'm still waiting on a way to backup save data in case my wii u fails, that's the biggest problem that the wii u has right now IMO. When all your progress in Mk8, Smash, and hyrule warriors is lost, then maybe more people will complain about this one.
@rushiosan "DLC is the last thing I want on Nintendo games."
Surprised by your comment. DLC in my opinion is necessary in this day and age to keep a game relevant . It expands the life of a title. Now, whether or not you want to pay for it is a different story, but I believe that most people are willing to pay for additional content to make their games better as time goes by. I believe that if nintendo did not offer DLC for their current titles, they would become irrelevant extremely fast.
In addition to being able to export save data, my second most important item would be the deluxe digital program for sure. I have only purchased one physical wii u title since i bought my wii in 2012, everything else has been digital and those $5 vouchers came in handy Living in the Bahamas, it's too much work trying to import games, as you have to wait for shipping and pay duty...
Not sure if this has been mentioned already, while all of the above expectations are great, i REALLY want to see development for a way to unlock save data from a specific console and export it, either in the form of cloud storage, or some type of export to USB option that won't be locked to the current wii u hardware. Face it guys, if your wii U dies, while you can transfer your ID to a new console and redownload games, your save data is HISTORY.
@ReallyFeelingIt I think the problem that some people have is that they are expecting more of a single player experience from smash. The problem is, I do not believe that smash was ever meant to be that way. Smash is multiplayer centered.
@Kaze_Memaryu
"Not interested in a Smash without Single Player appeal."
That's interesting. I have played smash since the original on the n64 and I have never thought of it as mainly a SP game, and I can tell you that it was probably never meant to be. All of the attactive aspects of smash have always been multiplayer. So, if you are not buying it because of the lack of a really good SP mode, then perhaps smash is not really your type of game. It almost makes me think of wanting to buy street fighter for the single player mode, which i don't think would make much sense as it's geared towards competive play with other people.
@Joruus_Cbaoth agreed, unless you are looking for quick repetitive challenges with co-op capabilities, smash wii u will be a horrible Single Player game. I personally will not be playing it for any special single player mode, any time i spend alone with the game will be mostly for training with my main characters.
@Joruus_Cbaoth
I never played the single player version of Melee, but i found SE in brawl to be extremely repetetive and boring. Regardless, I have no problem with your opinion. As for my opinion, the many different Multiplayer options in this game makes for an extremely fun multiplayer game. I don't want single player action from smash, I can find that in many other games which are more centered around a story line and SP mode. So far, I believe that smash for wii u with it's many MP modes including smash tour, tournaments, multiplayer classic mode, and 8 player smash is looking to be the best smash game ever!
@ SteveButler2210 @TRON You guys do have a point. I guess since my daughter is still a baby and hasn't reached that gaming age yet, I hadn't really thought much about it. Even if I slow down, I can still have fun with them, I just wouldn't play as competively as i do now. Either way, nintendo is the only family gaming platform in my opinion, and I have plenty of time to reconsider. Thanks guys!
I've been with nintendo since i was a child with the NES back in the late 80's early 90's. I was introduced to smash brothers, mario kart, and pokemon in highschool. I have played every generation of smash and mario kart since then. However, due to more important responsibilities and priorities, I stopped playing pokemon about 6 years ago since it is awfully time consuming. However, I am 31 years old right now and I still play both mario kart and smash. MK8 has been my main game since it was released, now I am waiting on Smash Wii U. The older you get, the less time you have to play and the less of a priority games are. I expect this to be my last generation of both titles, as I have a family now, but I will enjoy this current generation to the fullest
I do not care much about using the gamecube controller for smash as i believe the pro controller will be perfect for smash. Like many others have pointed out here, this would have been perfect for wii vc. The only answer now is for nintendo to hurry up and port all of the n64 vc games to wii u so that we can finally use the pro controller for them. Then RIP gamecube controller. Wired controllers in this day and age, really?
I was considering getting this as it would have been useful to use my existing gamecube controllers for the wii vc mode. From day one, nintendo has been making it too expensive when it comes to controller options. The wii u pro controller is a wonderful controller, but has no support in wii u vc mode. Since i refuse to purchase classic controllers, this would have been perfect to allow me ot use my old gamecube controllers in wii vc mode. Without that, this purchase is a waste of money. The wii u pro controller is better in layout and it's wireless, which is a huge plus in this day and age. My last wii was ko'ed by some child running accross the gamecube controller wires and throwing it to the floor. Therefore, RIP gamecube controllers, i welcome the pro controller and already have 2 of them, and they have been awesome to play with. I will wait on nintendo to bring my exisiting vc games to wii u.
while i am pleased with the announcement, it would still be nice to get a smash wii u demo on the eshop before it gets released, that would build hype even more....
I live in a small third world country where we will never have such events. Nintendo should consider releasing some of the demos, e.g. smash wii u, out on the wiiu eshop for people like us, even if it is just for a limited time. That would give them even more exposure.
From day one, the 3ds should have been updated to be used along with the wii u as a tablet controller instead of the "dumb" gamepad that we have now. Having the handheld work along closely with the home console is golden. However, seeing as the wii already has it's own tablet controller and is 2 years into it's life span, this idea may now be too late...

I have been with nintendo since the original NES. Here are my thoughts: Have enjoyed all of the consoles right up to the Wii U. However, with the Wii, the motion controls are gimmicky, I got tired of them fast and I am VERY glad that i barely have to them with the Wii U. As for the gamepad that came with the Wii U, I believe that it was a very great idea, but unfortunately not enough games utilize it to make it of much value. As for the future of nintendo, i believe the time has come for them to stop making hardware. Most of their games would run well/better on other consoles. Very few of the first party games make great use of the gamepad to make it that valuable. Nintendo will NEVER get the customers that they once had, so my advice to them is to stop fooling themselves and stop making home consoles, perhaps stick with the portable console market and that's it.
Had good fun with MKwii, brawl was a laggy mess, which i abandoned almost immediately. Looking forward to much better online services. If Brawl is not done right this time, it will definitely kill the game much faster. Smash can not survive another localized prison cell like it did last generation.
According to the link below, mario kart wii has sold about 30 million in lifetime sales, and super mario kart (snes) with about 9 million. I hope the wii u can do the same.
Worst selling? Might be true considering that there are only about 3 million wii u consoles owners out there, however, this does not mean that it is a bad game. Battle mode? A matter of opinion. I am not a battle mode person, so this does not impact me at all. Racism? This is hilarious. You can NOT cater to every people group and persuasion out there. Make a game based on your beliefs and run with it. Besides, the objective of the game is to race and have fun, not about representing every people group in the world. This is ludicrous. Overall, highly anticipating this game! Will be purchasing online the moment it is released!
I never found battle mode to be that fun in Mario Kart. What would be creative is to not only bring back the arenas, but also have new modes like CTF, maybe some modes involving missions, and also have battle mode specific items which will go well with these new game mode types.
now this is what I am talking about nintendo! This should have been a feature of the Wii U from the beginning. The only problem is, it should be both the DS and 3DS games! Regardless, this will help the fledgling console's lack in it game library. Now, please release some media apps like internet radio, and maybe the added capacity to work as a DLNA client and/or play back some bluerays, and then the wii u can actually function as a media center device!
@Rukiafan
While the classic controller pro does look like a better option than the original classic controller, due to trying to spend my funds wisely, i prefer to invest solely in the new wii u pro controllers, since they have a preferable form factor and are wireless.

correct, i meant in wii mode. wii mode on the wii u will not allow the use of gamecube controllers (of which i have 4 of)
Too many controllers to invest in, so I am picking the ones which i believe are in my best interest, which are the wii u pro controllers.
That's correct, any SNES or N64 based title requires a wii classic controller or GC controller in order to play. The wii u does not support GC controllers and i do not own and will not be paying for Classic Controllers.

So without some more useful features, I no longer see it as being worth the money. It's sad to see nintendo go down this way, but it is inevitable if your business does not change with the times, especially with technology.
Let me say that i was against modding at first. Yes, most people probably do it to play pirated copies of games. However, my tone has changed since then. My originall wii is soooo much more useful as a modded console! I can play internet radio stations, watch DVD's, and even use it to stream content from a pc in another room. Even now, i'm shocked at how utterly under utilized the wii u hardware is! Such potential, especially with the tablet controller and the upgraded graphics and faster hardware, but sadly nintendo will never fully realize this. I'm sure there are others like me who have transferred their wii content to the wii u and refuse to buy both wii u pro controllers and wii classic controllers. i would like to buy only the pro controller thank you, since it is the newer one and does not require me plugging into the wiimote. I would get 4 of them so that friends can enjoy the older titles too.
3. Focus on releasing fresh VC content on the wii u. The games that are already released on the wii eshop work just fine, except for those which annoyingly need the classic controller.
4. This last one is not related but is just a dream, allow us to play 3ds games on wii u In my opinion this would greatly expand the current wii u library.
I think the greatest invention for them would be to allow 3ds games to play through the wii-u, but of course this is just a dream..... as much as i like zelda, I am not spending money on a portable console again.
I see people asking for mario bros 3, this is already released on the wii eshop and works just find. I would prefer for them to release A Link To the Past (snes) on wii U eshop, because i am not going to buy a classic controller just to play this game or any of the older N64 games. I already have 4 wiimotes/nunchucks and would prefer to invest in the newer wii u pro controller.
