@dskatter See, I have the inverse concern. I own NO physical games. I have 300+ eShop games. I want to know if I will be able to re-download them all WITHOUT REBUYING THEM on the Switch successor. My hopes are not high.
"To those who are frustrated or even angry about the timeline..." I hate the fact he felt the need to address such pressure. This is a game originally conceived of by one man and has been nothing short of a labor of love. For people to begrudge him for a delay in a friggin FREE content-rich update is a damn shame.
It doesn't matter to me if it is backwards compatible.
EVERYTHING I OWN IS DIGITAL so it won't benefit me unless it's such a fantastic design that I can re-download any number of my 200+ eShop titles which is about as likely as Tottenham winning the league this year.
Only played a few matches but so far I'm utterly disappointed.
First thing I changed was getting rid of Sue Smith as commentator and then change the game speed in settings.
I would have gladly taken a graphics downgrade rather than the 30fps drop. Horribly horribly slow. I went from Fifa 18 to 22 and was waiting for this. I fired up FIFA 22 to compare speed and it was painful.
Kinda wish I downloaded 23 while it was on sale over the summer and called it a day for my footy fix on Switch for its remaining lifetime.
@Maulbert: Wow, bro. I'm well aware of the concept of inflation but thanks for the lesson.👍 I was referencing how, say, Iron Sword: Wizard & Warriors 2 might have been $39.72 while Super Dodgeball could have been $47.81. The prices were seemingly random to a little kid whereas now, games are pretty much standard at $59.99 w/ a few exceptions at say, $39.99. As someone who hasn't owned a non-Nintendo system since PS2, I couldn't tell you what MS and Sony do w/ their game prices so I don't care. And as for the "whining", mate, I'll still stand by what I said. What's the point of selling it a $70? It's practically guaranteed there will be DLC on top of it probably bumping it closer to $100. If this becomes more common with 1st party games, $10 adds up for some people. 🤷♂️ Hope you find peace in this gaming generation or the next.
I just can't get past the $70 price tag. I know it's only a measly $10 but it's the principle of the thing. Who determines what is so blockbuster that it merits the higher cost? I know it's been said by others but it just feels like we're in for future first party games (that rarely go on sale) getting the $70 treatment.
Hey, at least it's not back in the 90s when prices seemed to be random for games at Toys R Us and EB (god I'm dating myself).
@Captain-N Holy crap I didn't know about that "NAND memory" stuff where not having the system fired up could result in a dead system!! I hope mine is good! 😮
And c'mon Ninty, PLEASE ***Xenoblade Chronicles X*** to Switch!!!
Great article, very good points, but I'll be damned if I don't buy Wiind Waker on Switch. I've waited for years for that. I have it on Wii U but I must have it digital download on Switch. I take my Switch a lot of places I can't take my Wii U for such a great adventure.
Ugh. So glad I only spent a couple bucks on this and at a discount. This didn't even remotely scratch that Tecmo Bowl itch. The control scheme is awful. I was willing to overlook the management component of it but I apparently glossed over the review too quickly and didn't see the lack of a defense part. Uninstalled this game. Blah.
@Bizzyb came here to say exactly this. Saints Row IV has posed no problems that I've noticed during my play through so how GTA can't keep up is beyond me. This is entirely on Rockstar, nothing on the Switch hardware.
@mobor I have quite a few Hamster Arcade Archive games on my wish list but I almost never buy them because the price and the fact they never go on sale irritates me so.
Ohhhh how I wish Shining Force 2 was included in the US version......<3 that game so much. Someone mentioned Crusader of Centy was a notable omission and while it was a great game in its own right (if not a LoZ: LTTP derivative), SF2 was where it was at.
I held off on getting a Switch this year once I heard the rumor of a new version in 2019. I'd hate to get one now only for one to come out next year with better battery life or something useful like that. Besides, I can bide my time finishing all my Wii U titles they keep re-releasing on Switch. 🙄😉
Been playing since it was called FIFA International Soccer (in 1994 AD).
I'm sure I'm in the minority here, and I hope EA folks aren't scanning for comments like mine to justify their development decisions, but I just want a footy game with decent graphics, good controls, updated rosters, real world tourneys and leagues, real stadiums, and some fun celebrations.
I just want to pick up the game and play an exhibition or get immersed in a season.
Play a game online against a stranger or a mate? Sure.
But all of this other stuff every one is so adamant about and has gotten so accustomed to over the years?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't regret purchasing my Wii U back in 2013 one bit. I have about 13 games I bought physical, plus all my Wii games I could still play, plus a couple dozen eShop purchases I made (indies like Axiom Verge, AAA like ACIV, Watch Dogs, and 1st party games like Splatoon, misc. Zelda titles, etc). I still play my Wii U (when grad school life permits) and I look forward to treating myself with a Switch when I graduate in May. I still anticipate having a back log of games to finish on my Wii U though.
Ugh! What was that? A 20 minute sale? It's back to full price! I've always been on the fence about this one and was finally going to take the plunge at $12 but no way back at $49.99. Bugger.
I have absolutely zero regrets purchasing my Wii U. I've had a NES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, Wii, and Wii U and it is by far my favorite console.
I'm sure I'll be lumped in as a "casual" gamer by today's standards but the amount of hours I've put into gaming the past 25+ years says otherwise.
I've enjoyed just about every game I've purchased for the Wii U, retail and download. In fact, I think Captain Toad was the last physical copy I purchased and everything else has been digital download since. I've grown accustomed to e-shop downloads and am a bit ambivalent about the return to cartridges which leaves me wondering what that means for an eshop.
As for the Switch, I will get one, eventually, but I'm replaying ACIV, slowly wading into Xenoblade Chron. X, loving Axiom Verge, and now I'm sucked back into Splatoon after a several month leave.
Needless to say, I am content with my Wii U and have a backlog to work through for the foreseeable future.
Bought the game to support the dad and his lad. Honestly never been much of a Metroid fan (not a fan of the game, the genre, or much of anything sci-fi, although I was a fan of Simon's Quest so Metroidvania can't be all bad).
However, upon downloading it last night, I must say, I am PLEASANTLY surprised with what I've played so far. I wasn't even drawn in by the gameplay videos (again, speaking to my indifference to the genre) but upon starting the speedrun mode just to quickly jump in, I really enjoyed it. I look forward to playing it again. Bravo to Mr. Happ and prayers for his boy.
SUCH a fun game. I bust this out a few months ago and played it in Wii Mode to re-beat it. Just plan old-fashioned simple fun. When I'm too tired after work to focus on a game with heavy story or requiring quick reaction, I sometimes just like to play a game with simple gameplay mechanics and charm that lets your mind melt. This is one of those games.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Said To Be Fully Backward Compatible With A Larger, 1080p Screen
"backwards compatibility with DIGITAL games"???
My catalog is entirely digital. Does that mean I can redownload all or most of my digital library or do I have to REBUY my several hundred games.
That's what I want to know. Otherwise, BC means little to me.

Re: Feature: What Do You Want From A New Nintendo Switch?
it is for this very reason, now I am not going to go for a Switch this holiday season. :/
I will kick myself if I get one now, and the new release has a better battery/screen/something I haven't thought of.
I will also kick myself if I wait till "late 2019" and it is a Switch SKU that was not worth waiting for.
I feel like a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest.

Every time I see the title of this game one the web, I read it as "Rock n' Roll Racing"

(Please tell me I'm not the only one!)
