Wow switch almost has 10 mil in japan.
In a weird way I am glad the standard switch outsells the lite. Lite is not a switch, only in its name. People need to show nintendo they don't care for half baked products. My outspoken opinion only, not intended to attack anyone.
@aVagabond
You're right that it defeats the purpose of the "Switch" name. Yeah they should have at least made it where the Switch Lite could still connect to TV and just still sell without a dock and everything.
@aVagabond
It helps that the standard Switch has a DQ bundle in Japan with no Lite equivalent.
And with this week, Switch's gap over PS4 has now broken over 1 million units.
I would never had guessed a Tom Clancy game could get within the top ten of the Japanese sales chart, let alone #2.
Nice to see the deserved first place for DQ XI. I wonder if Nintendo's expectation of the switch lite was higher...
@Fighter_Hayabusa I thought the same thing.
Glad to see DQXI S hanging in there. It's an absolutely marvelous game.
@Joe-b I think Lite sales will pick up come the holiday season. With that said, it's still selling pretty well, and I doubt Nintendo is crying about the more expensive model continuing to sell as well as it has.
@aVagabond I don't think the Lite is a half baked product. I view it as the 2DS to 3DS approach. Nintendo giving options and different entry points if anything. Nothing wrong with your opinion, just putting mine out there.
I can't say enough how much DQ XI deserves all its sales. Fantastic game!
Yeah, good job Dragon Quest 11! The Slime Bun promo is nearly over. Still saw some today. https://youtu.be/wEtKhN6qvg8
BreakPoint was not for me after playing the BETA - But glad for Ubi. And still need to get CodeVein.
DQXI, decent numbers for being late. Switch deserves same day release.
Not the same for Super Robot Wars V
PS4: Super Robot Wars V (02/23/17) – 100,154
Switch: Super Robot Wars V (10/3/19) – 4,213
I view the Lite as the Pokemon/Family Friendly/ Portable enthusiast version the Switch. They can both coexist in the market.
I'm incredibly excited for Switch 2. I think it's obvious Nintendo will want to tie Switch 2 with the launch of BOTW 2 as it will show how far in tech it has come. Cant wait!
Really glad to see Dragon quest 11s doing so well. It justifies the extra care and attention they gave to it and hopefully will mean more from Square in the future. Tom Clancy ghost microtransaction is trash though.
Considering my backlog and the smash tournament I am preparing for. I am going to have my hands full for awhile until i get into dragon quest 11 and hopefully by that time the extras will be released for the ps4
I would have rathered a Ghost recon advanced war-fighter 3 but knowing Ubisoft they'd ruin it.
If Dragon Quest XI S could keep this momentum up until Pokemon Sword and Shield launch, the Nintendo Switch will continue to dominate Japan way into 2020. Sony at this point is all about waiting for the first chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake and the PS5.
@Duncanballs
Yes but 3ds nor 2ds couldn't connect to a tv. In my opinion, differences between those two devices are minor, compared to switch and the "switch" lite
@Bizzyb
Maybe I live under a rock but, has switch 2 been announced yet?
@Duncanballs
Besides, I think that when a true Nintendo handheld comes(with a better suited name and accessories) "switch" lite will hardly be remembered
@Bizzyb
The Switch 2 isn't coming out anytime soon. Breath of the Wild 2 will be a Switch exclusive.
@aVagabond
Imagine thinking that Nintendo is releasing some mysterious separate dedicated handheld even after the launch of the Switch Lite.
The Japanese chart software rankings are definitely more my speed this week.
@rdrunner1178 I’m still very surprised Nintendo didn’t add a connector to allow the lite to be docked. It would have cost maybe a dollar? Then they could sell the dock separately while keeping the lite cost low and made more sales from the dock from those that wanted it.
Both Switch versions share the same games. To count them seperately is tragic.
The Switch/Switch Lite is outselling the PS4/PS4 Pro at a ratio of 12 to 1. That is extreme!
@datamonkey The biggest problem with that is that the light doesn't even physically fit into the standard switch dock. Which means that they would have had to design a whole new dock just to sell separately (or some other solution). This also brings up the problem that once people start buying extra products for the light, what's the insintive to not buy the original anyway? At the end of the day the Light is for people who want to play only in handheld (or want a cheaper second Switch for their household), and the system was obviously designed entirely around that.
@aVagabond it is not half baked, it is a great system for what it is meant to be, hand held system only
@andjahiam yep I thought they might not reach 10m in Japan until Xmas, looks like they’ll get there sooner.
What's most impressive is that Switch sales are up YoY even if you don't include sales of the Lite.
@aVagabond & @westman98 "Don't believe me just watch".
It's coming and BOTW 2 will be on it (didn't say exclusively). You can Quote me on that.
Half of the top ten is switch games. The ever green nature of Nintendo software seems to be winning
@Bizzyb
I somehow believe you that will be the case. BOTW 2 on switch 2
@Tantani
A handheld system with not-so-good battery compared to switch v2 and, worst of all, potential drift.
@Bizzyb
I could see a "New" Switch "Pro" (whatever you want to call it) could be coming in the next year or so.
But, I don't think Nintendo's going to release a full generational upgrade next year.
@Ralizah I agree
@Ralizah honestly what surprise me is that even here in America, if you look and filter titles in the eshop to include only full priced 75$CAD+ titles.... Dragon Quest XI S has been second only to Link's Awakening on the eshop.
It's also notable I feel because even if you remove the filter, it's still in 6th place of current best sellers. Which is eve more impressive if you consider that, except for Link's Awakening(second place), everything else above are cheaper download-only titles that don't even have a retail presence the way DQXI S does.
Granted ranking is not sales figure but for what's essentially a port-remake of a 1-2 years(depending if you're in the west or japan) old game that actually sounds promising.
I don't see it as a blockbuster but right now it's post-launch longevity in the ranking is promising of a potential somewhat solid slow burner.
@westman98 honestly I even feel we'll get botw 2 sooner than we think. I'm calling it a December 2020-January 2021 at the latest for it's release date.
genuinely love dragon quest series...this one tho, way too many cutscenes, i got 6 hours in and i think 4 of them were cutscenes
Nintendo will be very pleased with the Switch Lite. It’s selling decently but the key is, without impacting sales of the OG Switch.
@Ludovsky
Oh sure, I could totally see Breath of the Wild 2 being a holiday 2020/early 2021 release.
What I'm saying is that the Switch 2 will not be released that soon.
@electrolite77 yep
And in the holidays it will sell 10 times better, probably outsell the OG weekly thanks to Pokémon version that will move millions of units especially with the Luigi’s mansion boost, both are great sellers that focus On hand held
What happened to astral chain, links awakening, demon x machina, fire emblem 3H did they all crash and burn?
@Lord I think they're in the top 20 just not top 10 anymore it definitely didn't crash.
@Lord
Not being among the top 10 best-sellers of the week != "Crash and burn"
@aVagabond why do you think it's a half-baked idea? The strong sales would seem to suggest there is a market for it. More Switch sales are good for all of us, no? More sales mean more games being developed.
@Nintendofan83
I don't mind more games being developed. I am talking about the console itself. A degraded one. More sales of it will encourage more production of products which lack features that mede the console stand out in the first place. But let's not talk about this anymore. Wrong topic. Started by me. Apologies. Moving on. Happy gaming ☺
@rdrunner1178 I would totally get a Switch Lite if I could switch it to docked mode.
I've been having a good time with DQ11 so far. But I feel like it's really held back by having a silent protagonist. The Hero just feels like a weapon they point at the bad guys with zero personality - yet he isn't an avatar and has very few customization options. You can't even play as a girl. :/
At about 20 hours in I'd give the title a solid 7/10 at best. Very fun but so far, totally forgettable characters and narrative. I hope that side of things picks up.
