Update: The reveal of The Wonderful 101's fancy new Kickstarter campaign has potentially shed light on the 'Platinum4' mystery. It looks like another three new games could be on the way.
Original Article: Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 developer PlatinumGames has opened a brand new website, sending fans into overdrive and confusing everyone in equal measure.
The studio shared a link to the new site on Twitter this morning, using the hashtag '#Platinum4'. The link leads you to a page showing a single number '4' with a static effect; eventually, the number begins to spin. You can access the site for yourself here if you want to take a look.
So, what on Earth is going on? Fan theories in the replies to this tweet are about as wild as you'd expect - including some who are jokingly predicting the existence of Bayonetta 4 - but nothing's clear at the time of writing. Other ideas suggest it could be a countdown to the expected Wonderful 101 Kickstarter campaign, or that this could be to do with the studio's new self-publishing venture.
Only time will tell, but we're excited to see what comes of it. If you have any wild predictions, feel free to share them with us below...

Ufff Platinum is on a roll!
That font looks awfully familiar.
It's a countdown to Bayonetta 3's release. Only four years to go.
Platinum 4 sounds a lot like the "Capcom 5".
Bayonetta 3, The Wonderful 102, F-Zero Ultra and Astral Chains.
Or maybe they're just developing Half Life 4, to be released before Half Life Alyx and Half Life 3.
@BenAV Perfect, man. It's been in Amazon purchases index for a couple years already
Maybe Platinum Games had enough that Nintendo won't release Pikmin 4 and created their own Pikmin 4.
Metroid Prime 4 scraped again and it is now on Plats hands
Like a few others, I'm thinking this is 4 games from Platinum coming soon, 2 of which will be the W101 port and Bayonetta 3.
Maybe we'll get Madworld port too?
4 more souls need to be sacrificed before Bayo 3 is released
Half Life 4 confirmed.
Earlier they said if astral chain sold well then we can expect another great games, Scalebound on switch???
Knack 4 Confirmed
Plot twist: All this time they were working on Bayonetta 3 AND 4 at the same time for a simultanious release date😯
This is related to the Kickstarter and expect more to come today (go see the latest spawncast where NateTheHate discusses it)
4 people have donated to the Wonderful 101 kickstarter so far...
They're assisting Retro Studios with Metroid Prime 4.
@westman98 Source or it didn't happen.
'4' leaf clover.
The return of Clover Studios?!?
Maybe a sequel to Nier: Automata, technically a “4th” game in the series if we count Drakengard as the first?... I thought of this because of the distortion in the first image.
Bayonetta 4 is coming!
Its SOOO good that they had to skip 3.
Retro and platinum games on Metroid prime 4.
4 player coop, 4 DLCs, release date December 4th,
Rating: 4 out of 5 lol.
@xpownz That was legit my first thought too!
@GhostGeneration I actually wasnt joking heh
Super Mario Bros 4
"Platinum is planning on releasing 4 (four) Nintendo Switch exclusive action games throughout 2020 and 2021."
A Kickstarter though? ( if the rumours are true ).....I mean, c’mon, they’ve been established years, if they can’t self fund by now they shouldn’t be in the business.
@xpownz Me neither, I also thought "maybe we're getting a new 2.5D Metroid with Platinum-style combat and I got super excited. I mean it WOULD technically be #4- Metroid, Metroid 2: Return of Samus, and Super Metroid make 3 so yeah, probably WAY off base there but whatever.
More Playstation news?
It seems Plantinum know how to play the public with social media, you suckers!
and in 4 days a direct COULD take place with news from Platinum in it?
Platinum might know.
What was Platinum's 4th independantly developed IP?
There are 4 members of Star Fox in Star Fox Zero so Star Fox Zero Switch port.
I love the hype, but this announcement might have nothing to do with Nintendo consoles. Let's hope it's not that way
@Rodan2000 why should they self fund a game which they know full well will bomb hard! The fans who keep screaming for it can prove it by supporting the KS project.
They're preparing to announce a remake of Sonic 4
Trust me, my sister's best friend's uncle's dad works at Platinum
I'll be w4iting 4 more news!
@kobashi100 Astral Chain was a huge risk, that didn’t require a Kickstarter so your rationale is redundant
@Rodan2000 last time I checked Astral Chain had Nintendo support. Last time I checked Wonderful 101 was a huge failure even with Nintendo support. Just accept the truth, wonderful 101 is very niche and struggled to even hit 250k worldwide. Whoever wants it can support the project!
Fantasitc Four Labo. We get to build the Thing out of cardboard.
@GhostGeneration Metroid Fusion is Metroid 4.
@Strumpan I always forget about that one, you're right!
It’ll be for an IP that nobody cares about.
@Rodan2000 How would that work? Publishers funded all their previous games, so publishers get the profits from previous games. People working for Platinum get paid a salary like the rest of us. You can’t be with independent when you’re as big as Platinum. You’re saying over 200 people should go a few years without being paid so they can put out a game?
Drakengard 4, perhaps?
@Peach64 Publishers do get profits but Publishers don’t pay their salary
Like Mario 7 Grand Dad?
I'm willing to bet this has nothing to do with Nintendo.
Let's see... Not very likely, but maybe by chance Drakengard 4? That 4 seems kinda similar to what's used for 3.
Maybe it's a reference to April or a secret Fantastic 4 game? I guess it could also be a reference to the old 4-square playground game, but that idea is so ridiculous I almost didn't bring it up.
Let's see if it changes to a 3 tomorrow. Could just be a glorified countdown.
I hope this has something to do with Nintendo or PC.
@Octane that's actually a fan project right now. Suggest checking it out, along with the mother 3 fan translation if you haven't already
@Ooyah But the four is in the URL. If it changes each day people's bookmarks would break. The four definitely means something.
And man I had no ideas until someone mentioned the Capcom 5. 4 games sounds incredibly likely. The original set had Viewtiful Joe, Killer 7, Resident Evil 4, Dead Phoenix and PN03.
And don't forget there was a Platinum Three: MadWorld, Infinite Space, and Bayonetta.
So... let's see... I'll wager:
1. Okami 2 - Rumors are true that Plat and Capcom have teamed up
2. New Self-Published IP
3. New Self-Published IP
4. New Nintendo Team-up or it's Bayonetta 3 and these are all coming out in the same year.
Maybe it’s going to be like a Nintendo Direct thing where they show off 4 new games.
I was hoping to get an answer to the Wonderful 101 rumors, not more questions. I mean, I'm pre-hyped for whatever it is, but now I'm even more confused
Viewtiful Joe Collection? (I'm sure Capcom won't care) No, just me? Ok.
@Octane not Knack 4? 🙁
@Falien Might be Drakenguard 4.
@JaguarWong lets hope you are right,i would love to play Bayonetta 3 in my Switch this year.
@westman98 i heard that i was a sucess.
could this mysterious site that Platinum Games have just opened be a hint that we finally have informations and news on Bayonetta 3, with the numbre representing Bayonetta 3 release month.
You should update this page.
It's pretty clear. 4 challenges means 4 projects or games. The first is the 101 KS as it says on their page.
Id love a second viewtiful Joe ...
