I have no stake either way in SGF or Game Awards or anything, but I looked up the Metroid Prime review and did not see anything that can be labeled as "lambasted" or "harsh"
Was it..."you’ll be hard-pressed to find another game with smoother controls or environments that eclipse the beauty of areas"
or..."At its core, the game delivers what matters most: well-designed gameplay with interesting puzzles."
The most criticism comes from the games story and the fact there is no voice acting and a narrative "is a series of text blurbs that have all the drama of a fortune-cookie message.".
There is a little hyperbole in the opening lines but it is overall a postive review.
2025 is counting the delays. The initial announcement was August 2019 although I believe land clearing and such was already in progress (Universal loves announcing things after construction already starts, sometimes not until its almost finished).
Covid wiped out much of 2020 construction ability but it restarted and 2021 saw much of supplementary places (parking lots, back of house buildings) built with actual park construction in 2022.
Without Covid the park would probably be open this year, so it will be only a one year delay.
The expansion will have a mine cart coaster though. It is a newly designed coaster with a sideways track underneath a false track. This will allow the carts to "jump" over breaks and gaps in the false track to simulate the game.
Not to be the wet blanket, just realistic expectations, but people saying they should do "Pokemon, Metroid, Splatoon, Zelda, ect" next will probably not get what they want.
Or at least not in the way they want it (not that it would be bad)
Universal Hollywood is WAY low on space, which is why they can not do a complete SNL. The Yoshi ride had to be axed because of it. So direct expansion to that park could be limited and its no guarantee that they will get the DK coaster (which would be years away)
Universal Florida has two parks already, but like Hollywood they are also pretty landlocked with limited expansion room. They ALMOST got SNL but it was moved to the new park (more on that in a second) and the room where it would be at is not earmarked for something different. They do have an underused land called Lost Continent that would work for Zelda, but do not expect a fully brand new land as much as a heavy retheme and reworking of what they have with a brand new ride.
Which brings us to Epic Universe what will be the newest Florida Universal park. This is the one with the full SNL like Japan has. And it even has a expansion area. But it is not big, maybe 1 ride and it is not something I could see branching out into a fully new IP (probably Mario related in some way to keep continuity.
So a Splatoon/Metroid/AC land would most likely be relegated to the near future FOURTH Universal Florida park which is a decade away realistically.
I hope to be wrong, that maybe they have extensive plans to use the IPs. But when you count not only space, but time (got to let each park and land breath before you go add more) and expansions in other Universal areas, what we have is what we will be having for a while, not counting small updates and maybe something like Pokemon Go intergration or similar.
They do not have the space for the whole thing, although the mechanics for the Yoshi ride were used elsewhere in the park for The Secret Life of Pets ride. So it's there, kind of.
And while it just has one ride it should still have all the interactive games built into the land.
Universal Florida 2025 for the whole land, plus Donkey Kong.
So is Nintendo the last presentation of E3? I know in normal years the presentations are technically pre-E3 but it seems strange to wait til the very end.
Is this any significance or I am just reading to much into things?
I want to know which sets cost 400 dollars and just takes hours to build. Because I bought the HP Castle with 6,000 pieces and it took me many weekends to build.
I don't know where this ArtofNP lives but I met Paul Rudd in Chicago at a Convention in 2019. It was on my birthday and I got a picture with him with my bday balloons in shot and then he signed it and wrote happy birthday.
So the opportunies are there for this person to make it happen or for someone to help him.
Super Nintendo Land California is miles ahead of Florida so its not on the same timeframe. They have vertical construction and will probably be done this year. They will probably hold off opening it until early 2022 though.
Definitely. Nintendo Florida will have a ride Japan does not (Donkey Kong) and is also being built in a brand new theme park (Epic Universe). So space is no issue.
@gaga64 There may have been a slight lull for a few years, but The Simpsons jumped back up with the movie and then again when they switched to HD. No shark jumping with them.
I would say the HP sections are not the exception but the new standard. While in the past Universal might have been been a tier lower lower then Disney every time they redo or update they have met that Disney Bar lately Simpsons section, Harry Potter, Kong (sure it is a screen ride but the theming and line are amazing). Volcano Bay is also an amazing fun park. The new hotels are way better then Disney dollar to dollar. And Halloween Horror Nights raises the bar every year.
As for Universal being just coasters and simulators. All of Dr. Seuss Island, JP River Adventure. Dudley Do Right and Bluto Raft Barge, Doctor Doom Freefall, ET, MIB ride. Mummy may be a coaster but is filled with theming and animtronics. Spider-Man may be a screen ride but there is a reason it has been voted a top ride year after year. And the new HP coaster will be another that adds so much more then just being a coaster.
I could write more but Lego Movie 2 starts in 2 minutes.
Read up on the new Harry Potter Coaster coming to Islands of Adventure this year. That should ease your concerns that US just does simulations.
@LUIGITORNADO
The area has not been scaled back. Instead of putting the Nintendo area in what is now the Universal Studios Kidzone it has been moved to the upcoming 4th(or 3rd depending on your thoughts on Volcano Bay) park, theorised to be named Fantastic Worlds. It will be one of the main anchors of the park.
@gokev13
Universal just debuted a meet and greet with a Trolls character that farts glitter. So anything is possible.
Most of the Universal Studios portion of the article has been known for a long time. Mock ups and renderings are online. The permits just give everything a more concrete feeling.
The big news is the Nintendo expansion outside of US. The 4th park area is a given. With 600 or something acres it will probably be the best realized version of a Nintendo Area. And the farthest out timeline wise.
Islands of Adventure is trickier. They will not get rid of Harry Potter Land (Naturally) or Jurassic Park Land. Or Superhero Island. That leaves Newspaper Comics Land, Dr. Seuss Land, and Lost Continent Land.
Comics has two water rides, Seuss has many kiddie rides, and LC just has two shows (Because HP took over the rides and space). So LC seems like the best place to retheme. What to retheme it to would be tough because I am sure they do not want the transition into HP land to be Nintendo Metroid Land. Zelda would be the easiest fit but I think hardest to make rides out of. That is assuming they would want 1 IP for IOA and not multible Nintendo franchises represented.

This is a expansion of the Nintendo section, it is included with the park ticket. So you are already paying for it when you go into Universal.
