Balan Wonderworld, although I don’t see it as a bad game unlike most others. Recently played thru it and found it really good. A little out there in its style, but for a 3D exploration game it’s fun and interesting.
Just finished it yesterday. Surprised the reviewer, and some of the commentators had problems with the controls. I thought they were spot on, and had no problem landing on platforms. In my mini review I noted the controls were one of the highlights. I was jumping all over from high places with no hesitation. (I should note I played on XBox, not Switch.)
I think the appeal of this “game” is simply adding to your step count. If you’re looking for some kind of payoff beyond that it’s probably not for you. It would be nice to have additional goals but that’s not why I keep using this. Should reach 2 million steps sometime this week!
I do enjoy trying to collect all the decor Pikmin, although it’s tough if you generally walk the same route every day.
Also, I’m not sure if it’s true today but I was able to redownload ALL of my Wii purchases AFTER the Wii eshop closed. I’m even seeing comments here of people believing that won’t be the case.
Maybe it did do great. What percentage of the gaming population never visits gaming websites and are therefore not even aware of issues? Probably a lot more than people realize.
Agree about the coins. I haven’t spent any yet because everything available to buy is easily obtainable if you walk regularly. I’ve been working on collecting the decor Pikmin and you can use the search tool for 100 coins if you’ve already used it that day. I’ll probably start using them for that.
I’ve put $8 into the game, all on permanent upgrades.
I’m closing in on level 50 so I hope they raise the cap soon. I’d also like to see some new features but it’s a tough call. I like that when I’m walking there’s minimal input from me, unlike Pokémon Go. I don’t want to have to pay much attention to it when I’m walking.
I played on Game Pass and loved it. It’s definitely not for everyone. But if you have any interest I wouldn’t let this review kill your curiosity. I put 11 hours into it (no guides) and had a blast. One of those games that had me thinking about what I could do in it when I wasn’t playing.
As for the original Satisfye grip I’ll vouch for it like there’s no tomorrow. Feels great and I never played handheld without it. However, I would not order the OLED model at this time. I ordered on Oct 8, was supposed to have it in mid Nov. Between developer delays, COVID, and now shipping delays my expected delivery date is Jan 27. I have little confidence I’ll have it by then. A look at their Twitter account indicates most are still waiting like me. Great product but wait till they are in stock and past all these delays.
Drift and loose sticks won’t be a widespread problem on the N64 controller because within 2 weeks the majority of gamers will move on from NSO. It’s the hot thing now but it soon won’t be. The controllers will get little use. Mine will but most others won’t.
Thanks for posting this. I knew Animal Crossing was different but wasn’t sure if I was supposed to transfer it before or after the main transfer. Appears you can do it after.
I’m not clear on saving your screen shots/videos. Can you do those after the transfer? Or do you have to do it before? The guides say to put your old SD card into your OLED. But will that work without having to format it?
What is the approximate run time for the story mode? A couple hours? Are there any rewards for using the different characters that aren’t simply new color palettes or artwork?
I submitted a short summary for DISTRAINT 2 the day after the original article was published. It’s so overlooked it didn’t make their second list either, lol.
I’d prefer they just add new systems to Switch Online. However, I need the replica controllers to really enjoy them. Playing with NES/SNES controllers is awesome. I’d gladly pay for an N64 controller.
Don’t get me wrong, the game is amazing and it kept me playing an entire year, which no game I’ve ever played before has done. If they want to rehash the same content going forward and move on, I’m fine with that. But due to the popularity of this game I thought they might try harder to keep players engaged once the first year ended.
Actually makes me glad I quit playing at the 1 year anniversary. If they ever add anything substantial I’d return, but this is almost identical to last year.
For those of you dealing with drifting joycon, they are easy to fix. I’m not talking about the temporary cleaning fixes, but actually replacing the defective stick. Last I checked, the sticks can be had for around $5. Add another $5 if you don’t have the screwdriver to open the joycon. Basically, if you’re capable of removing small screws you’ll be able to replace the stick. There are countless videos to show you how. Takes maybe 25 minutes if you need to follow a video, 10-15 minutes if you know what you’re doing. I replaced both of my left sticks over 2 years ago and they’ve lasted longer than the original ones. I have a couple spares ready for when they eventually go defective again. No need to keep dealing with drift, or buying new joycon, or waiting 3 weeks for Nintendo to fix them.
I don’t understand why these companies have so much trouble with this genre. It’s not new. They should know what works and what doesn’t. I mean, the same repeating, shallow villager text..can we not get some meaningful character development? Having to have a hundred makers, who thought that’s a good idea? Again, older games have already solved these problems. It’s hard to fork over $40-50 for these when there are similar eshop games that do it just as well, if not better at a fraction of the price.
And btw Kate, I have no idea how you manage to play all these time sinks AND still have time to crank out all the articles you do for this site. I salute you.
I figured the one year anniversary was the perfect time to tap out. After a solid year yesterday was my first day of no longer playing. If they add substantial content I’ll come back but what they’ve announced so far doesn’t interest me much.
@RareAir23 When the story first broke in 2019, Nintendo’s official Twitter account (as did XBox), retweeted or replied. I don’t think they would have responded if something wasn’t in the works. It did say “as soon as 2021” so who knows.
The article mentions the possibility of the Switch announcement being held back for a possible Direct. This is always a reason given when there’s no mention of Switch. Is there value to holding back 3rd party game announcements? Seems it’d be better to be included in the original release announcement.
@JLPick As has already been noted, Sony didn’t do this out of kindness, or even wanting more money/sales. If they want to keep the MLB license they had to go multi platform. I’m curious to see how much is cut from the Switch version, because we know there will be cuts.
To answer the question at the end of the video...YES, I would absolutely like to see more stuff like this. Obviously you can’t do something like this every day but this was entertaining. I wish it would have worked out better in the end. I was actually surprised at some of the stuff that was included in the box.
@Clammy If you’re looking at the side by side shots, that’s not UltraHDMI, but a $30 Hyperkin product it’s being compared to. The UltraHDMI is around the 2:50 mark, and it looks phenomenal, imo.
@sixrings Well, looks like you’ve bought 4 pair already so I guess you can either continue to buy new ones and state you shouldn’t have to fix them (you shouldn’t), or you can do something about it. I’m not saying there’s not a problem, there is. I’m just offering a cheap solution that gets you back to actually playing games.
Also, you don’t need to be a DIY person. I’m not. Everyone assumes if you’re not then it’s too hard. That’s my point, it’s easy. If you want to refuse based on the principle you shouldn’t have to, then so be it.
@MsJubilee The sticks are like $5 a piece. I got mine for less than $4. If it starts drifting again I’ll switch out a new one in15 minutes and be done with it. It beats complaining on message boards or waiting for legal results that will take years.
The number of people in this thread alone that are currently in possession of joycon that drift is staggering. Yes, it’s a problem. But rather than continue to deal with it, or put them in drawer because they’re unusable...just fix them. As people have said, it’s cheap and easy. It takes all of 20-25 minutes to replace a stick, and that’s if you need to watch a video as you’re doing it. Too many people assume it’s too hard. I’m telling you it’s not. Within a week every single person in here could have joycon that work like new. Take initiative and be able to play your games
While it is an issue that should not be occurring, I cringe every time I see someone post they bought new joycon because their originals drift. They are incredibly easy to fix. If you are capable of removing screws you can do it. I replaced the sticks in 2 of my left joycon over a year ago with no problems since. I have 2 replacement sticks in my drawer for when it starts again. Watch a video, get what you need (less than $10), and just fix them. It beats buying new joycon or waiting weeks for Nintendo to do it.
@El_Scorpio I also would like to know how accurate the time keeping is. Is it down to the minute (like 3DS) or updated in 5 hour increments (like Switch)? I currently use the Switch parenting app which tracks in 5 minutes increments. However, it’s barebones in that you have to add up each day’s time to see total play time of a game. I’d be very interested in this coming West if it tracks accurately.
It’s not just digital games though. Even physical games receive updates that will eventually be unavailable. While you may have physical disc/cart, you may not be able to access the game you remember playing because the patches are gone. While going physical is a better option for preservation, it’s certainly not a guarantee.
Dragon Quest 9 is an example in which even with the cart features are already no longer available.
Played it, it’s a great game if you like survival games. Took me about 20 hours. No interest in rebuying a physical version, but I can say that for any game I’ve already paid for digitally.
So at the bottom of the article it says exclusive to New 3DS. Is that actually the case? I’m sure the 3DS base for people still buying games is small, New 3DS even smaller.
Don’t let the looks fool you. I’d argue Super Mega Baseball is more sim than arcade. It’s definitely not straight up sim but it’s probably more sim than most think. Don’t take my word, try the demo.
While I’ve wanted the N64 Mini since the SNES Mini was released, at this point I’d rather they just add N64 games to Nintendo Switch Online. Of course I’d want them to make the N64 controllers available like they did for NES and SNES. Using the native controllers is important to my enjoyment of these classic games.
Didn’t watch the video but per the write up this game went on to become Grunty’s Revenge on GBA. So I’m assuming the GBA game was a better version since it actually released. As someone who owns the GBA game, I’d say we didn’t miss much with the cancellation of Grunty’s Curse because imo Grunty’s Revenge isn’t that good to begin with.
I did not back this game and really have no interest in it. However, this whole situation could have easily been avoided with an update here and there. Jools is usually very forthcoming with game updates and is transparent. I can understand why backers would have expected the same with Chicken Wiggle. When questions and concerns are met with silence for a long period of time frustration grows, especially when the silence is coming from someone with a reputation for being transparent.
Although they are small, Updates wouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes. That’s it. I’ve heard Jools guest host game podcasts that were a couple hours. He’s friends with the Talk Nintendo Podcast and they reference playing multiplayer with him nearly every show. My point is taking 5-10 minutes out of whatever he’s doing to appease his backers would have been simple and avoided this ugly situation.
@NotoriousWhiz To each their own. I just spent 3 hours the past couple days playing through Vice Project Doom and had a blast with it. Fire Emblem was sitting on my shelf as I played.
I’ve been taking one NES game each week and trying to put 2-3 hours into to find out what it’s actually about. I almost always select a game I’ve never played or played sparingly. Honestly, I’ve found some games that most people automatically dismiss to be very fun, Vice Project Doom being the latest (Donkey Kong 3, Wrecking Crew, Super Dodgeball are some others). VPD was never released on VC. Check out the prices the game goes for on the secondary market. This should be one people are celebrating was added.
Instead people are clamoring for the same SNES game we’ve already gotten on Wii VC, Wii U VC, 3DS VC, and SNES Classic. I’m looking forward to SNES games as much as the next person but I’m also enjoying what is currently available on NES Online.
I sat down to play a few minutes of Vice Project Doom and ended up playing nearly an hour. It’s a really good game provided you aren’t going in looking to hate it because it’s not an NES game you’re familiar with or a SNES game.
By far the Wii U has been the worst for me. First it quit taking discs, $100 to Nintendo to fix. They sent back my original Wii U, then it wouldn’t stay on, another $100 to Nintendo to fix. They sent me a different Wii U. Then it wouldn’t stay on again, another $100 to Nintendo to fix. They sent me a different Wii U. Each time I got a different Wii U I lost all my saves. Now I just discovered the LZ button is no longer working. Another $100 to buy a refurbished Wii U gamepad. I’m going to open the broken one to see if I can fix it.
Keep in mind the Wii U’s are adult owned and not mistreated at all. I’ve still got the boxes of my NES games in great shape for reference. Just an incredible run of bad luck with that system.

Re: Random: "I'm Able To Trust Sony More Than Nintendo" - Japan Reacts To The Closure Of The Wii U And 3DS eShops
@hypercoyote Agreed. You just can’t buy new games. That’s it. You can still play what you bought, or redownload after it’s “shutdown” if needed.

Re: Poll: Have You Ever Had Problems With Nintendo Hardware?

More money/power somewhere else, that’s usually the reason.
