It's fair to say that the R.B.I. Baseball series hasn't had the best run on Switch. We gave the 2017 edition was given a scathing 3/10 review, while R.B.I. Baseball 18 did little better, chalking up 4 out of 10. Still, with last year's game improving enough to score 6/10 in our review, there are reasons to be optimistic for the forthcoming R.B.I. Baseball 20.
However, having said that, the first trailer for the game has filled us with more than a little dread, as it doesn't feature a single frame of footage from the game itself. Instead, the trailer is solely focused on celebrating the talents of R.B.I. Baseball 20's cover star, Christian Yelich. The Milwaukee Brewers outfielder won the Gold Glove Award in 2014 and has bagged the Silver Slugger Award twice – once in 2016 and again in 2018. He was rated the National Baseball League's Most Valuable Player in 2018.
In short, he's a fine figure to have gracing the cover of R.B.I. Baseball 20 – let's just hope the game lives up to his stature.

Highly recommend Super Mega Baseball as an alternative on Switch. Great gameplay and if you don’t know any particular players in any case then you are not really missing out on the official tie ins.
Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If it is broke, don't fix it and make annual games no matter how much backlash they get.
The biggest issue is the infield singles.
I played ~20 hours of RBI 2019, and <20% of my hits are extra base. Most of the hits dribble through the infield for a single, flyouts happen more in the infield than the outfield.
...and strangely you'll hit the ball right to the pitcher, only to have it bounce off him, SEVERAL times a game.
The physics need a revamp so it's not a singles party.
In the meantime - Super Mega Baseball 2 is a bit arcade-y, but plays great. There is a demo too.
I stick to wanting Super Mega Baseball. I'd rather have a good baseball game then one just to have the Licensed players and stadiums.
Hey, at least my Brewers have accomplished something.
I'm a big Brewers fan so I'm definitely buying this. Pretty rad to have the new logo and the 50th anniversary patch featured on the cover. Hopefully the lack of gameplay footage is just because it's still super early (pre-orders aren't even available for four more months).
@DanElectrode I just spotted that! Great to see them synchronize these two things together. Love their new look (even though it took me forever to figure out that glove.)
To be fair, this is why I just stick with The Show on PS4. Shame for baseball fans that only own Switch.
Really the switch lacks a lot when it comes to sports. No nhl. No NFL. This is the crappy SIM baseball we get. No F1. The rally games are terrible. Then again the switch lacks a lot of genres. I guess this is what we should expect when we don't get Mario games dedicated to each sport.
That video above doesn't even belong on a video game web site.
Oh wait, there are game cases at the end. Okay. Now it's a video about video games.
Well they need to get their money's worth out of their "cover star".
The game wil sell anyway like any other of these annual sports snorefests.
Highly recommended Super Mega Baseball for anyone who wants a good baseball game on switch. Super customisable as well.
@Swizze what about people who want a simulation
Don’t let the looks fool you. I’d argue Super Mega Baseball is more sim than arcade. It’s definitely not straight up sim but it’s probably more sim than most think. Don’t take my word, try the demo.
@JasonLee99 I like the demo. But you can't blame people for wanting to play with official teams. This makes me feel like the old days and I had to create a player to use Michael Jordan in basketball games.
@sixrings it's a really solid game, I don't know enough about it if it's considered a sim though. Maybe If it's cranked up to 100 with the difficulty?
The hilarious thing about this series is how consistently bored the players on the cover look. It doesn't instill much confidence about what's on the cartridge.
At this point if you buy or support this franchise you are quite literally stupid. Quite honestly an embarrassment to baseball is this current version of the franchise.
@sixrings Ah, I see. I’d prefer to have real players too. But having real players doesn’t necessarily mean a game is a sim.
Anyone ever play SNK's Baseball Stars and it's sequel back in the day? Those games friggin rocked, even without having actual teams and players.
@duffmmann Baseball Stars was amazing. My brother and I played seasons with other kids from the neighborhood. Usually ended in arguments...like most other games played with the neighborhood kids.
